Migration from developing countries often involves significant hidden costs that workers must bear themselves, including medical tests, orientation fees, agent commissions, document fees, and air tickets, which can amount to 2-4 lakh rupees despite government claims of 10,000 rupees, forcing workers to sell assets, borrow money, or mortgage land, while remittances may constitute over 26% of the country's GDP.

The Problem with Nepal's Migration | Nepal stagnant economy.Added:
Every year, hundreds of thousands of Nepali people moving abroad. But do you know what it actually cost them?
Government says that the workers should pay just 10,000 rupees, but people are paying a more than 10,000 rupees.
They're paying 2 lakh, 4 lakh, even sometimes more large amount of money to just afford [music] the visa. If you don't understand this, let's take example. A one man from village, he wants to go abroad. First, he sells his bike. And second, he borrow money from his relatives. And even he had to mortgage his land to just get a job in abroad. In meanwhile, he had to live with it. And he had just one hope to make a better future. And when he arrives, he gets salary that barely cover what he already spent. Even though these confrontations and stagnation [music] of their life, over the 3.5 million people are working in abroad right now. And you know what? The remittance makes up more than 26% [music] of Nepal's entire GDP. But behind every dollar sent home, there is a sacrifice that no one see. Like medical test, orientation fee, agent commission, and document fee, and even air ticket. These costs are supposed to be paid by just workers and organizations. But who actually paid that? Just themselves, every time. [music] And honest reality is the migration is not free. It never was until the system is changed. Our people keep paying the price.
