Third Man Syndrome is a survival mechanism where the brain creates an illusion of a companion ahead during extreme stress, helping individuals push through physical and mental limits by providing a perceived goal to follow, as demonstrated by the speaker's experience in the Gobi Desert where hallucinating a figure 100 meters ahead helped him continue walking despite heatstroke and exhaustion.

What was out there with me!? 👀Añadido:
was I've since learned that the scientific term of it is third man syndrome. I'm a 23-year-old beach bum living on an island having never have gone to [music] a desert before fighting people for money and scuba diving. You know, that if I ever needed fear, that >> [music] >> it was that. It was seeing who had attempted it three times before. And his little message at the [music] bottom of the email, "Incredible is the ability to continue no matter what." Didn't know what he meant. [music] It taunted me. I take it to Muay Thai training. I'd be over playing it. I'd be running up the jungle mountains with backpack of weight and bricks inside thinking, "What did he mean by that?" And it all made sense underneath the the the trailer in the Gobi Desert. You know, when I Yeah, it all sort of came together. And I almost personified Incredible cuz I was hallucinating, you know, my mind was so scrambled I could almost see this incredible figure. Cuz I was like, "There's no role model here. There's no one to look up to. There's no one to follow in the footsteps of. If Incredible was a thing, if Ripley, the previous guy, was talking about Incredible, what would it do in my scenario?" And it would break its goals down. It would rest for 5 [music] minutes, walk for a 100 m, you know, 100 m is only small, but if it's covering 100 m, it's 100 m closer [music] to the next water source whilst rationing the last remaining drizzles of hot water.
And I've only got 4 days left. If I'm going to do this in 4 days, cuz I don't believe I could have survived longer. I think 5, 6 days I would have died. So, I had to keep going, but I was resting under my trailer for an hour. So, I'm like, "This is not adding up. I'm going to die if I keep doing this." But I could almost see it. It was ahead of me.
Something was getting out from the trailer, and it was pushing on. And it was always getting out before me. It was always walking further than me. It was more efficient than me. And now it was getting further and further away, but I was trying to keep up with whatever this thing was. I've since learned that the scientific term of it is third man syndrome.
