Gonzalez masterfully distills complex chemical principles into clear, intuitive logic for young learners. It is a perfect example of how to teach foundational science without losing the audience in jargon.

Mixtures and SolutionsAdded:
hello everybody my name is Sandy Gonzalez and today I will be reviewing what mixtures and solutions are what is a mixture well let's take a look at the salad what do you see I see several substances or items mixed in one bowl I also see that they are mixed together I see that the items did not change from what they look like before I mixed them together the tomatoes still look like tomatoes and so do the olives cucumbers and lettuce let's look at another example in this example of a mixture I also see several substances I see they are together and they did not change what they look like even though they are mixed together here are a few more examples of mixtures we see a mixed fruit bowl a mixture of leaves cones and branches and a mixture of tools these are all considered mixtures so what is a mixture a mixture is simply a combination of two or more different substances in which the substances keep their identities simply put it is a mix of items that look like what they are what about a solution isn't it just a mixture well let's look at the properties of both substances in making Kool-Aid before mixing them one looks like a solid and it's grainy and pink the other looks like a liquid and is clear after mixing the two substances we notice that the Pink Sugar powder disappears in the water did it disappear or is it still there well if you taste the water you will notice it is sweet like the sugar the sugar also made the water turn red so what happens when a substance dissolves in another a solvent is a substance in which a solute will dissolve in in this case the water is the solvent and the sugar is the solute when you mix them together the solute molecules in this case the sugar will spread out evenly with the solvent molecules in this case the water until it looks like you cannot see the solute anymore so what is a solution a solution forms when a substance dissolves or breaks apart into another substance it is a special type of mixture that has the same composition throughout because all its particles are mixed evenly once they are mixed together is there any way to separate the substances in a mixture in the case of the salad I could just remove the onions if I don't want them in my salad I can use tongs to remove them in the case of the Kool-Aid it might be more difficult I would actually have to evaporate the water and what would remain is the sugar particles so to review a mixture is simply a combination of two or more different substances in which the substance es look like what they are a solution forms when a substance dissolves as it is mixed with a solvent and all its particles mix evenly thank you for listening to my explanation of mixtures and solutions if you want to learn more you can go to kids britanica happy learning
