During heatwaves, prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures poses serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations including children, elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. Key preventive measures include staying indoors during peak afternoon hours, maintaining hydration with fluids and electrolytes, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, and minimizing direct sun exposure. The dry air during heatwaves can worsen respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD, causing dry cough, breathing difficulty, and increased breathing rate. Smoking and vaping can further exacerbate lung-related ailments during extreme weather. Simple lifestyle measures like regular exercise, yoga, adequate sleep, and maintaining a healthy routine can help strengthen respiratory health and improve the body's resilience against heat-related complications.

AIIMS Doctor Warns Of Serious Health Risks Amid Heatwave追加:
As North India continues to grapple with an intense heat wave, doctors are sounding the alarm over the growing health risks linked to prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures. Health experts warned that the scorching conditions are especially dangerous for children, the elderly and people battling chronic illnesses who are more vulnerable to extreme heat. Randep Guleria, the former director of Ames Delhi has advised people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours. Remain hydrated and take extra precautions as the summer shows little sign of easing.
>> We are going through a heat wave and I would really advise that people uh especially in the afternoon and those who are elderly and children should avoid going out in the afternoon. Keep yourself well hydrated. Take good amount of fluids and electrolytes. If you go out, take an umbrella or walk in the shade and be careful that you don't overexert yourself when when you have an heat wave. Uh because this can lead to dehydration, heat cramps, and in severe cases, it can lead to heat strokes.
>> As temperatures continue to climb and dry weather conditions persist, Dr. Gueria points out that the intense heat is also leading to a rise in respiratory health conditions.
To prevent this, he advises everyone to avoid strenuous outdoor activity and minimize direct exposure to the harsh afternoon sun.
When we have heat wave, it there is lot of dry air which we breathe into our lungs. It can lead to uh dry cough. It can worsen underlying respiratory symptoms like asthma or COPD. And it can also lead to breathing difficulty. and we tend to breathe at a much rapid rate because of the dry air that we breathe.
So take keep yourself well hydrated.
>> Dr. Guleria also warns that smoking and vaping can worsen lung related ailments during extreme weather increasing the risk of respiratory distress and other heat related complications.
As the heat wave continues to tighten its grip, health experts say simple lifestyle measures such as regular exercise, yoga, adequate sleep, and a healthy routine can help strengthen respiratory health and improve the body's resilience.
