When a government suspends a gasoline excise tax, consumers experience immediate price reductions at the pump, but this relief is temporary and does not address underlying infrastructure funding issues that the tax revenue supports.

Price drop follows Indiana's gas tax suspensionAdded:
Welcome back. Gas prices are dropping here in central Indiana. Some downtown stations now at 439 a gallon. Gas Buddy reports the statewide average is 461 a gallon. That's down 15 cents from Wednesday.
And the drop in prices follow the governor's order to suspend Indiana's excise tax on gasoline. That tax is 36 cents a gallon for this year. I asked two members of Indiana's best political team how much of that drop we can contribute to the governor's order.
>> Well, I think one of the biggest issues is is for the governor is he's got to do something and he's got to be very proactive in doing something because the person who he supports, you know, wholeheartedly has taken us into this forever war that has really brought the gas prices up. I mean, there's no question about it. Everyone is feeling it at the pump. the the challenge becomes and and I think people do need to have some type of relief. Absolutely.
Because again, affordability is are is a major issue. The the challenge becomes is the gas tax funds are roads and so we don't have great roads and it's not just Indianapolis, it's all over the state.
So even though you might get you might save 20 25 cents on a gallon of gas, you are still um you're still not going to see those road improvements. That takes away from that. So what ends up happening is what do you do next? Do you tap into the surplus? Do you um you know, do you have to have a special legislative session? I don't think you'd want to have a special legislative session. So, really, the options aren't that great. And in the meantime, we're in the middle of a war that 63% of Americans do not approve of. And it's that approval rating continues, that disapproval rating continues to go up.
>> I think it did. And I think it was a great move on his part because he understood that Hoosiers were hurting and he wanted to try and make some sort of impact. And as uh we saw from uh Garrett's uh segment, you know, it is making an impact. 20 cents per gallon, that's huge, right? Uh and so I think that Hoosiers are feeling a little bit of relief at the pump. However, that's only limited period of time. And so again, fix this Iran problem by the end of summer. Otherwise, it will be a problem this November.
>> Laura, close us out here.
>> Yeah, I mean I I agree with Mario. I mean, I I think the challenge though with with um the Iran war too is, you know, Trump campaigned on I am not going to go into forever wars. We're going to be America first. And I think that is creating a lot of cognitive dissonance for people as well as the fact that everything is just so expensive. And when you fill that gas tank up, you have to fill that gas tank up so you can get to work, you can do all these various things. And it's really going to impact people. And I think it'll impact people especially when it comes to summer travel, back to school. Oh yeah.
>> Um it's going to increase budgets. I'm just going to keep talking and not let my plan have nuclear weapons.
>> Ah we also broke down the results from Tuesday's primary. You can see that discussion this Sunday morning at all of politics. So, there's at 9:30 in the morning right here on Wish
