O’Leary’s focus on lunch money is a classic elite distraction that ignores the systemic destruction of purchasing power. It is intellectually lazy to blame individual habits for a structural economic crisis.

O'Leary Advises Not to Spend Money on Lunch, Coffee | The View追加:
You know, we've been talking about young people in the workplace and >> a resurfaced rant.
>> What does that mean? Resurfaced. It just >> It was a while ago. It's going viral right now.
>> Oh, >> oh, I came back.
>> Who cares?
>> See, so I don't even know if I care about it, but I'll I'll read it for y'all because he or it's We should have done it when he did it.
>> But it's back.
>> Resurface herpes.
>> Is that the little bug that you drive?
the Yeah, right.
>> It's a resurface rant from Shark Tanks Kevin Oly.
>> It's Well, you all said you wouldn't see it and it's not going over well. Check it out. You go to work, you spend 15 bucks on a sandwich. What are you, an idiot? It cost you 99 cents to make a sandwich at home and bring it with you.
So what if you bring it with you? Bring your own water if you have to or your own drink or bring your own coffee mug.
You start to add that up every day, it's a ton of money. Most people, particularly working in metropolitan cities that are just starting out on their job, making their first 60,000, piss away about 15,000 a year on stupid stuff. And that's what they should stop doing.
>> So, >> I don't know what kind of stupid stuff you're talking about, but you know, maybe people like what's wrong with people liking their stuff? They know what they make. They know how to budget.
It doesn't cost 99 to make lunch. It costs like $10 to buy eggs. So that's He's so out of touch because let's face it, he sold in 1999.
He sold his software uh product to Mattel for $4.2 billion. So I don't want to hear him telling me about the cost of living or the price.
>> Well, it's his point that if you just leave out the cafe lattes, you will become a billionaire.
>> Yeah. I mean, it's it's so out of touch.
He okay he's not totally wrong on its face if you just listen to the words. I when I was making like 35,000 a year working on Capitol Hill I always packed lunch. I always brought my coffee or my water cuz I couldn't afford to do differently. But to say that that's the reason young people aren't getting ahead is so foolish and it ignores the macroeconomic headwinds that they are facing. Right now your dollar a dollar went three times further in 1980 than it does today. The cost of tuition for a state school was eight roughly $800 in 1980. Now it's between $10 and $25,000.
You have rising health care costs, child care costs. Oh well, wages are stagnant.
And that's why young people can't get ahead of $15.
>> Is he paying his tax fair tax? I don't care.
>> He's Canadian. Who knows?
>> As a billionaire, I don't think he's paying his fair share of taxes cuz none of them do.
>> That's part of the problem.
>> It's ridiculous.
>> It comes off as tonedeaf because again, like what you said, Alyssa, I remember the days where I packed my lunches and did those things because I was making so little in New York City. It didn't change my wealth on big numbers, but it was for my frugal self. It did save. But he is it's without addressing all those massive problems they're up against. It does look very like um dismissive and flippant. And you know, maybe people know what they have. Maybe they're budgeting for their money. They know they can't afford the $15 latte. They're going to get the $4 latte. They're going to budget for what people budget for what they want cuz you know you have to treat yourself well >> regardless of what you're making. You make $10, you take $4 and make sure you do something for you because it keeps you going.
>> Yeah.
>> You know now you know I I know lots of billionaires and most of them >> came from nothing. So they have an idea >> not a whole lot that we're seeing but the ones that philanthropic billionaire >> great people out there understand it >> you know I'm sure Kevin might be one no I don't know you
