The price difference between NIO's Hong Kong shares (class A ordinary shares) and US ADRs (American Depository Receipts) reflects the additional risk premium investors demand for ADRs, which are perceived as riskier due to geopolitical tensions between the US and China, resulting in lower valuations for the same underlying company.

5 Banks Just Updated NIO Price Targets... The Truth Behind ItAdded:
So, last week when we talked about NIO earnings, I have told you that in the next 7 days we will have a lot of upgrades and downgrades from the Wall Street analyst and we will have new price targets. And wow, Wall Street did not disappoint. We actually have five of those and we will talk about them today.
In addition, ES9 is here. It's selling, it's delivering, it's pretty exciting.
The pre-sale period is over. The pre-sale has something weird in it. So, the pre-sale price for NIO vehicle is actually higher than the general availability price. So, I guess if you are a die-hard NIO fan and you want to get your vehicle a little bit earlier than anyone else, so you can do that.
And right now the pre-sale period is over and everyone in China can actually buy and get ES9 delivered to them. One more thing which we will talk about in this video. So, if you have written comment about NIO to me, I have answered probably to you and you know I'm a big skeptic of all of the conspiracy theories how NIO is getting hated and the stock is being artificially lowered by some evil Wall Street companies and stuff like that.
So, apparently this week NIO complained to the police about the online smear campaign that is against them and they said that they have proof. So, all of this is is kind of a weird story. I will tell you what I know if you have some information about that, let us know in the comment. We will talk about all of this in this video. In return, I only ask if this is not the first time you are seeing our video, press a subscribe button and subscribe to our channel, so we will know that there is demand for more NIO videos on this channel.
Hello and welcome to the Market Monkey channel. My name is Vadim. Today we are talking about NIO. One more quick thing before we begin. So, you know how we are talking about analysts and analyst notes. So, my co-host Julia, she actually written a her analyst note, her article about Neo last week. And this article is called "Impressive Q1 for Neo". I can't give it anything but buy.
If you have a Seeking Alpha account, go and read it. It's very comprehensive. It basically explains why Neo went and actually completed the complete turnaround of its business, of its financials. And right now is a great place for everyone to go and buy this company. If you have a Seeking Alpha account, go read it. If you don't have a Seeking Alpha account, link in the description. And the summer sale is going to start very soon. So, you know what to do. Now, let's talk about Wall Street. And let's talk about price targets. And let's talk about everything which had happened a week after the earnings. So, the first company we will talk about is called CLSA.
It's Hong Kong based company. And they had initiated their coverage of Neo stock. They have put a price target of 55 Hong Kong dollars for Neo, which is seven bucks in US. It's much more than what we are seeing on the Wall Street.
And in general, I I have to explain something about Neo in Hong Kong and Neo in Wall Street. So, I have only now noticed that the average target price for Neo in Hong Kong is much higher than the average target price for Neo in US on Wall Street. So, in Hong Kong, average target price for Neo is 61.5 Hong Kong dollars, which is $7.85.
In US, the average target price is $6.93.
So, there is a difference of almost $1.
And the reason is not because US corporation are evil and they are trying to artificially lower the price of NIO. No. The reason is you are buying two different things on each of these stock exchanges. In Hong Kong, you are buying class A ordinary shares of NIO.
So, the the usual shares, the usual stock of NIO. In New York Stock Exchange, what you are buying is ADRs or ADSs, American Depository Receipts or American Depository Shares. Basically, you are buying a piece of paper with which you can come to depository bank and sell them, "Please exchange this piece of paper for one stock of NIO."
So, you are not buying a stock of NIO.
Now, this whole thing with the ADRs and ADSs, it works fine, it works great. We have already heard some rumors before that US threatened China to pull all the listing of Chinese companies from its exchanges. China threatened to pull all the listing of its company from US exchanges. So, you can understand why ADRs and ADSs, they are perceived to be more risky and hence they are perceived to be less desirable and the price for them is lower. Another company which started following NIO is CMBI. They have put a price target of $7 per share and they have put a buy rating on NIO. The third company is DBS. DBS, we have talked about them. So, they have decided to keep their price target as it is, $7.7 per share. Now, the next company is Barclays. Barclays, you probably, if you are watching our channel for what, 2 years now? By the way, we have a birthday of our channel. We are 2 years old. If you are watching our channel from the beginning, Barclays and Nio, it's like the our private joke because Barclays since March 2024, so already what, almost 2 and 1/2 years now, their price target for Nio it's either $4 per share or $3 per share for 2 and 1/2 years in a row. During these 2 and 1/2 years, Nio shares went to 7 and 1/2 almost $8 per share. The company company had completely changed.
The lowest price of Nio was, I think, 3.4, 3.3 dollars per share, so it never actually even reached $3 per share.
Barclays do not care, they kept price target of Nio $4 per share and the rating is sell. The last thing is Bank of America Securities. They have raised target price by 10 cents from 6.7 to 6.8 dollars per share, maintain hold rating on the stock. So, to summarize, Wall Street expects Nio to be at around $7 per share and on average wants you to buy the stock. Hong Kong expects Nio to get around $8 per share and on average expects you to strong buy the stock. So, basically, everyone loves the company, the company is great. By the way, if this information is interesting, valuable to you, don't forget to press a like button and subscribe to our channel.
Now, let's talk about exciting stuff and let's talk about ES8. So, ES8 officially started selling, officially started delivering. Nio had chosen the same pricing strategy as it had chosen for ES8. So, basically, if you are die-hard Nio fan who absolutely wants the new model before everyone else and wants to show the model to everyone, you are pre-ordering and you are paying more.
To be honest, for me for me it's really weird to pre-order something and actually pay more for it than the general public, but if it works if if the demand is so strong that it actually works, good for NIO, good for them.
Today is May 29th, so we are probably not going to see any indication about the demand of ES9 for the month of May. So, the information we will get in a couple of weeks for May deliveries, but we'll probably get information about June deliveries and then we will can sit and talk about whether ES9 will be a huge success as ES8 was and will basically expand NIO margins and drag the profitability of the company up.
One pretty cool, pretty exciting piece of news is that Yao Ming became an official representer or chief experience officer or something like that. Okay, so he is basically a representer of ES9, he is basically a representer of NIO. I don't know how it is right now. Guys, if you are in China, if you've been in China recently, let me know in the comment, but I remember when I was working in China 12 years ago, Yao Ming, the famous Yao Ming, the NBA star, he was single most popular athlete in China. So, if he is still that popular, let me know and great job for the company.
So, a couple of things I wanted to say about the smear campaign. I'm not going to talk about this a lot because simply because I don't really understand what is going on there. The information is um highly strange, I would say. So, what we know, we know that first of all the company said that it had proof about the smear campaign which was targeted against Neo online and the campaign was to talk about incorrect data on the battery swapping network and about Onvo.
And there is a sentence which is I'm really not sure how to understand it. It says some online accounts fabricated false information that an actor in a promotional video for Onvo was the lead actor from a recent movie that received a lot of negative reviews. I'm not sure what it means. If you have some information about that, let us know in the comment. Please explain to me what all of this means. Who is this actor?
What is the movie with negative reviews?
And I mean, I think there is something here because obviously Neo would not just go to the police and would not just publicize all of this because well, there is a lot of hate about Neo, but this is the first time I'm actually paying attention to some of it just because Neo publicized it. So, if you know anything about that, let us know in the comment. Thank you so much for your time. We will see you in the next video.
Don't forget to like this video and to subscribe to our channel. Take care, guys.
