Israeli Airstrikes Kill 14 In Southern Lebanon As Regional Tensions Remain High | NewsX WorldAdded:
people according to the Lebanese health ministry.
Even as Israel and Iran say their latest round of direct talks has come to an end.
Seven people were reportedly killed in a dawn strike on Zifta, including a woman and a Syrian child. Later an airstrike in the coastal city of Tyre killed five people and wounded eight others, including four Red Cross paramedics.
Another strike on Marwahinier killed two people, including a child. Now, Lebanon's state news agency has said Israel carried out raids on more than a dozen locations in the south. The strikes came after Iran warned it would resume talks it would resume attacks if Israel continued operations in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it targeted Israeli troops operating inside the southern Lebanon.
Now, we welcome back Mr. Matthew Adam.
He's an American journalist joins us live from Washington, D.C. Thank you very much, Mr. Adam, for staying with us.
Now, looking at Lebanon as you know, you have said that this Iran is pushing a deal like buy one get one free.
How is Is that still effective of for today as we are seeing both of them continue attacks while US vice president and also Iranian delegation or the staff to United Nation has emphasized that no, the diplomacy continues. Where is Lebanon access in this now?
>> I think that Lebanon is um uh you know, is being squeezed by both sides. Lebanon has uh Hezbollah to deal with and Israel is attacking uh Hezbollah within Lebanon and uh you know, I don't think that Lebanon can really do much about it um at the moment. Um is Hezbollah is an instrument of Iranian terror. It is backed and financed by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
And Hezbollah continues to attack Israel and Israel is fighting back. And if that means that Israel has to keep attacking targets in Lebanon, it's it's it's going to do that. So, you know, I would say that um you know, it's pretty clear that any ceasefire deal between um you know, Lebanon and Israel uh I'd say it's it's pretty clearly dead at this point and the the two sides are effectively back at war against each other.
>> And you know, last week we saw reports come in about the fact that only 350 people uh who are Hezbollah members have been killed versus the death toll that's above 3,000 people uh of Lebanon Lebanese civilians. What's your take on this ratio? 100 people killed or 100 plus people killed versus one Hezbollah fighter?
>> Well, I I think that uh you know, 350 I don't think Hezbollah isn't it's not a massive army. Uh I've forget the exact number of their strength uh how many men they have, but I I think it's in it's in the thousands. It's not in the tens of thousands or the hundreds of thousands. It's not a massive outfit like the Iranian army and the Iranian um reserve army. Uh and so, you know, if 350 uh Hezbollah fighters get wiped out, that's that's a that's a lot actually. And that's that's going to do a lot of damage to to Hezbollah uh overall. That's Those that's a significant casualty rate.
Um so, uh you know, Israel is enjoying a lot of success against in its attacks um against Hezbollah, but you know, it seems that when some of these terrorists are killed that new ones come along and and fill and fill their fill the take their place. So, um you know, this is why Israel has been fighting Hezbollah for years and hasn't been able to um eradicate it because uh when they when they kill Hezbollah fighters, uh new volunteers um um suddenly come forward.
>> Yes.
Thank you very much, Mr. Vadim, for joining us today and sharing that insight throughout our news.
>> Okay.
>> Now, we stay on this area, Israel's ambassador to the United States, Ishael Later, has said that nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran should not be linked to the situation in Lebanon. Reportedly, ambassador has said that Iran is trying to the tie the negotiations with the United States to developments in Lebanon, but insisted the two issues are separate.
While the Israeli envoy said operations against Hezbollah have nothing to do with Iran and warned that Lebanon's future would be at risk if it remained connected to Tehran.
Now, we move the focus on to Philippines. At least 35 people have passed away after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake
