Hotel loyalty programs like Hyatt implement devaluation changes in waves over 12-month periods, meaning travelers should not assume all changes are complete, should verify existing bookings for potential price adjustments, and should use points promptly rather than holding them, as future devaluations will likely increase costs for popular hotels.

What now with Hyatt?Hinzugefügt:
The Hyatt apocalypse has passed. Does that mean you can breathe a sigh of relief? Not quite. I'm going to give you my three takeaways on what to do with Hyatt as you navigate forward in the points and miles world. I am going to look at my notes. The first one, don't think that all the changes have been made yet. Okay, there's a belief in the community that Hyatt is going to do this in different waves and gradually roll it out to some of the properties. So, not all the damage has been done across the board. There could be more bad news coming in upcoming weeks. So, if you're feeling like, "Oh, maybe that wasn't so bad." This could be a fake out like a calm before the storm. Number two, if you've already made bookings, double-check because there is a small chance that your booking actually went down in price. Remember, all of us were fearing that the prices were going to go up with a super peak and I think that certainly is the case for most people, but there is a small chance some of them actually went lower. I've seen data points on Reddit in the past few days where people are like, "Yeah, mine mine has gone down." So, it's worth checking.
However, I will caution you, the only way to actually do this is not through an adjustment. Hyatt's not going to do it for you automatically, certainly.
You're going to have to go and make sure that number one, you find availability still for the rooms and dates that you want, and then you're going to cancel your current reservation and then rebook it at the lower price. Number three, finally remember that devalues are just part of the game. They happen every year. In 2026 was just another one of those years. Don't sit on your points too long and don't get complacent because whatever the changes that were made, they're only good for 12 months, okay? And Hyatt will no doubtedly re-examine everything, see which hotels are super popular, and honestly, they're probably going to nerf them or bump them up in category making it more expensive for you to stay in 2027 and beyond. If you want more of my honest and transparent takes to help you understand the reality behind the points and miles game, hit that follow button.
