Affording to buy a car and affording to own a car are fundamentally different financial concepts; purchase ability refers to the one-time payment capability, while ownership ability involves continuous monthly expenses for fuel, maintenance, repairs, insurance, and emergencies. A person may have the funds to purchase a vehicle but lack the ongoing financial capacity to maintain it properly, making total cost of ownership a critical consideration beyond the initial purchase price.

Good morning my people. How you doing today?
I hope you guys had a good weekend. Uh yesterday I needed the rest. I had a very restful evening.
But how are you? Uh today I want us to talk about two separate things uh uh that people often confuse. Affording to buy a car and affording to own a car because they are two different things.
Um and and and and it's very easy for one to confuse them simply because you can afford to buy a specific car. You think you can afford to own it. Yeah.
So you may actually be ready to own one but you cannot afford to buy one.
Others can buy one today but they cannot afford to keep it properly. And that's and that's the thing that uh sometimes confuses people.
So I want us for I want for us to actually have uh to have this on on on point. Uh last week while I was doing inspection there is a gentleman I did inspection for I was not able to take pictures because I did not know if actually he concluded later on he told me he concluded but then I could not ask for pictures so he bought a zagur the guy bought a 35 million shillings 35 million shillings you heard me right and he paid 18 million shillings first installment But my job is to simply check. So I checked.
When he told me 35, I actually tried to call.
332 million first payment. So I told him, but good morning Davides.
Mark Jones info Julia Lawren VIP Kan VIP Rajab VIP Juma Ali Auka Manguzi David Steve Baros Pam Ronald Good morning Samuel good morning Ivan official VIP good morning uh Paul Sema VIP good Morning K VIP. Good morning VIP. Good morning. Okay. Travel with Shafi. Good morning.
VIP is smile. Good morning. And chairman Zach. Good morning guys. Buying a car is one thing. Affording a car is another.
where we should put the the the the where we should put the fact the the the the focus where we should be putting our focus however should be in owning the car. Can people afford to own a car especially during this season when I'm I'm I'm planning to give away a car. We need to make sure that someone can actually afford uh afford to own a car because that's a very important thing.
Last week, a broker took me to one of these yards that belongs to a bank. You know these banks that give you quick money. So they have cars that are there on thereas.
Yeah. Lexus signas. That car is 4,700 cc and it was being sold at 18 million shillings. That was good. Good. looks really nice and I said and the guy told me and I think it's one of the reasons why MPs normally when MPs come come from parliament they reduce the engine size now they no longer have the fuel card from parliament they no longer have the allowances from parliament. So they have to reduce their expenditure.
What I notic is when you are buying a car, don't show them that you can afford it. Instead, show them that it's expensive so that you can better.
Okay, that's an interesting perspective.
So today's money morning guys and tomorrow the president is swearing in.
So we discussed command we we we keep discussing money decisions mistakes and the real cost of ownership. Today we are going to discuss uh buying a car versus owning a car. It sounds confusing but when you understand it it can change the way you think about buying a car and not so many people have understood it. you find someone buying a car simply because they can afford it. Like you find someone buying a be I had a conversation with someone last week. Um and for him he wanted to buy he wanted to buy a C-Class C200 and at the time he had $10,000 and he went to the bone and told him they told him it would cost him $20,000. So he had 10k and he said after while I was moving a friend of mine took me to a garage and I saw a BMW X3 and I liked it and the owner who is a mechanic and sells spare parts told me that he can sell it to me at uh $10,000 and so before I even asked him how much is it in the bond he told me but I went to the bond it's about 55 million shillings which is a little short of uh $20,000 and I asked him why you buying a car that is used at $10,000 if you're adding less than 10k to buy and even then he said you know what it didn't actually make sense to me I just wanted to get a new perspective another perspective and I told him but also even then why buy a BMW that has been on the road for more than 4 years if you can to reduce the cost if uh the Mercedes-Benz you want cost $20,000 when still in the bond you buy it from someone who has driven it for 5 months not a year Not 2 years, 5 months. That car is going to lose a lot of value the past first 5 months. So if they buy it at let's say 60 million. Yeah. Let them drive it for 5 months. They'll sell it to you at 50. So just like that you have saved 10 m you get you have saved 10 and you still have a car that is in really good good condition has not moved a lot.
Jigur inspect it properly and then buy it. Said okay let me go back and and and collect a bit of money. And then they asked me, "What's the expense like owning that?" I said, "Uh, owning a Mercedes-Benz makes more sense than a BMW." I mean, we see more Mercedes-Benzes on the road than the BMWs. Uh, it's not like people don't like the BMWs. The mechanics, German mechanics have figured out Benzes better than BMWs or Volkswagens.
Yeah.
Shanko Gibbs, good morning.
So guys, my question is, how do you know someone can afford a car? Can can afford to own one? For you guys that own cars, how did you know that now I think I can afford to not afford to buy? How how do you know how how do you know that now you can afford to own a car?
again. Again, how do you know that you can afford to own a car?
How do you know?
That's my question today. Now, uh why am I even having these thoughts these days?
Because we are going to give someone a car and we don't want to give someone a car and they take it simply because they can afford it. I also have to make sure that you guys that are going to vote, you understand the kind of person that I want to give my car. Yeah, we want to give my car.
We want to give my car to someone that can afford to own a car. So, how do you know that you can afford to own a car?
Or let's make it even better. How do you know that one that one can afford to own a car? How do you know that one can afford to own a car?
So, what are some of those pointers that you can point at?
They can afford to own one. We are giving away a car in in in about 2 months. Yeah. In about two months, June, July, August, in 3 months, you'll be giving away a car to someone that is just going to win it courtesy of your votes. Other is someone to block. Yes.
Yes. Yes. I've seen Let me block them.
Done.
If someone has at least 50 million on his ah with Shafi 50 million. I don't have 50 million on my account. So I cannot afford to own a car. Shafi, you man, you must be rich. 50 million.
Do you know that if they just said Do you know that you would be stuck in the jam until tomorrow just because they have said 50 million shillings on the account you go through the jam? Henry modern juice. Good morning. So guys my question.
Yeah. So the topic as is can one afford to own a car even if they can't afford to buy one because that's that's what we are moving for the next 3 months until August when we finally give away the stud. Can someone fail to raise uh the money to buy a car but still be financially ready to maintain one because let's just make let's put this into perspective of children. Do you realize that there are so many people that cannot pay for hospital bills to have a child Yeah. in a private hospital.
Do you realize that there are so many people like that? Because at first people will say no, if you cannot afford to buy a car, you cannot afford to to own one, right? But the answer is very simple because in real life there is a difference between buying one and owning one. Yeah. Buying a car is usually one big payment. You need 20 million, 10 million. But owning a car is continuous responsibility like owning a child or having a child.
You figure out ways to actually keep the child on the road.
Because let's let's understand that you may fail to raise 25 million shillings at once, but you may be able to manage 700,000 a month for service, fuel, repairs, parking, and emergencies. There are so many people like that.
Those are some of the private cars. Some of those cars are there because the people could own could afford to buy them but they cannot afford to own them.
There some of the cars that are in that parking sometimes when I be discouraging people from buying cars I can see it someone doesn't know uh what they're getting themselves into.
So let's on the other hand someone may raise the 25 million shillings cash buy the car and then fail to service it fail to replace tires fail to repair suspension and end up parking it at home. There are so many guys that's why I normally tell you guys Mazda has no problem Nissan has no problem. BMW has no problem. Volkswagen has no problem but once you buy it the problem is actually keeping it on the road. The problem is going to be uh keeping it on the road. So today I'm asking you guys a very serious question. Yeah.
Uh how do you know that one can afford to own a car? Not buy a car.
buy a car when they have the money to buy a car. The real question is how do you know that someone can afford to own a car? Because owning a car is a continuous process like I said. Yeah.
So we separate two things. Purchase ability, ownership ability. The purchase ability is ability to go to the bond, go to someone, pay them money and get the car. The ownership ability is having the car continuously.
Yeah. Keep the car running properly after buying it.
A person may have the purchase ability but no ownership ability.
church.
So let's understand the two and I want us to have those those those answers from you because you guys are going to vote the person that we give the stallet and I try to make owning the stallet a little bit easier by removing the turbo system. The right now is perfect with EFI.
I think it takes 3.5 L.
So before we go deeper, drop your answers in the question. Yeah, drop your answers in the question and tell us how do you know that someone can afford to own a car? And uh today we are not just talking about cars. We're talking about money discipline. We're talking about planning. We're talking about income responsibility and the difference between looking rich and being financially ready. Because you can buy a car to look rich. You're not financially ready to actually own a car. Owning a car is something that is So if a car helps you, if the car helps you move faster, helps you earn, helps you save time, helps you serve clients, helps you transport tools, reach work, protect your family, then the car may be part of your productivity. But if the car is only for status and you do not have the money to keep it well, then it may become a financial trap. Yeah. If a car is for only status, you need to make sure that your car is not for status only. So buying cost versus ownership cost. Uh the buying cost is the price you pay to acquire a car. For example, a Toyota V may cost around 25 million.
Yeah, a Toyota Ractis may cost more. A Subaru Impreza may be affordable to buy compared to some cars, but ownership can be different depending on condition, fuel consumption. So, buying a Subaru uh Empreza, buying a Subaru Impreza will cost you the same as buying a Vitz, but the Impressor is bigger. Yeah, the Impreza is bigger. So, someone might choose to just buy the Empreza because it gives them bigger more features. It's bigger.
It looks prettier than a Vitz. But owning the Impreza is actually more expensive than than owning a Vitza Ar. I've always chosen the cars that are cheaper to own. Zingga, I've not always been choosing because I've bought a car that was cheap to buy before and I saw what can come out of it. So for me, I'll always choose a car that is cheaper to own because owning is continuous.
the Toyota Harrier made. Let's actually not talk about the Harrier. The Nissan X-Trade is cheap to buy. I It's even cheaper when it's used.
Uh recently people have been selling Range Rovers at 50 million and people saying I was talking to Queen Rover So buying a car is not just is not only the entrance fee. Ownership cost is a real marriage.
So when you buy a car and start owning it, uh you'll have to to pay for fuel.
You'll have to pay for service, gearbox, oil, brake pads, tires, insurance, parking fees, washing, the battery, the suspension, unexpected breakdowns. Yeah.
Number plates.
digital number plates and sometimes the biggest one which is poor previous ownership. A cheap car with hidden problems can become more expensive than a good car that looked expensive at the beginning.
That's why people keep buying.
That's why the the price of the car is not the full cost of the car.
So let's talk about the person who can not afford to buy the car cash but can afford to own it. This person might be a young professional. It might be a salesperson who moves around a lot. A teacher who has side hustles. A photographer. a marketer, a technician.
Yeah, it may be a mother who needs to move children safely. May be someone who whose work requires movement every day.
This person may be spending money on taxis, borders, delivery and losses time. Such a person may not be a luxury.
It it just is a tool. Yeah.
So let's say a person cannot raise 10 to 15 million to 20 million to buy a car but every month they can comfortably set aside 800,000 for transport transport related expenses.
So that means they currently spend about 25,000 on a border that's 750,000 per month.
So if the car helps them reduce stress, save time, serve more clients, increase income, then we must must examine the issue carefully.
or because they are dressed smartly or because they had a nice haircut. So when when the time comes for you which is next week for you guys to start voting for people to give the stalllet I need us to make a difference in people's lives. Let's see what your answer is. I asked a question. How do you know that one can afford to own a car even when they cannot afford to buy it?
It's possible for someone to maintain a car even without being able to purchase one. How kio van how with 25 million can I buy a used wish new model 2010 he said yes you can Dr. Come base your VIP. Yes, if you can save 4 million in 6 months.
Hey, can I buy a Tesla over there?
If one is given a free car, he or she must be given close supervision on maintenance. But if you buy if you bought with hard cash, the love of cars triggers itself on maintenance.
should be able to solve responsibilities uh fast and remain with extra cash.
Okay? Otherwise, a Nissan Fuger advised to be used as much as a Toyota Fielder or another Toyota because it's a Nissan.
It's very comfortable. That Nissan is comfortable, man.
It's very comfortable. Some of us buy cars to say and wait service. Uh-huh.
Arthur, can a wish of No, no, no. A wish of 15 will be bad. Terri will be terrible, man. It will be terrible.
Don't buy a wish of 15 for business. A wish of 15 is for home only.
So guys, people that don't have purchase ability, but they have afford a ownership ability, but they have ownership ability.
Ysef Luga, good morning.
So the person that cannot afford to purchase a car but can afford to own a car must also be doing some things. And some of the choices for the person that we're going to give the salate have already made them for them. One, they must be realistic. Two, they must choose the right car. They must avoid emotional buying if they buy at all or if they get a car.
They must avoid cars with expensive known problems. They must inspect properly. They must understand fuel.
They must understand repairs. They must understand maint maintenance plan. They must not enter ownership blindly.
Uh-huh. Joan, that's true. Let's not give someone because they have a good story. But you know, a good story, a good story comes from um a good story comes from the facts that are in the story. Henya.
A good story comes from the facts that are in the story. So someone talks about the challenges they have. Yeah. And that's that will be that will turn out to be a good story. Someone talks about what they're going to use the car for and that will be a good story for us to um consider when we giving them a car.
You get?
So a person that cannot own a car but they can buy one can look like this.
Sometimes they have the money. Maybe they got a deal. Yeah. Maybe they sold land, family land.
Maybe they've just used their savings and they they have not really done the calculations. Maybe they sold another asset. Maybe they received a payout.
People that get their fathers have gotten pension and from his so a person like that everyone will say that person can afford a car right I think it's possible for a person to own a car but can't afford to buy take that lady of Harriet she could not buy but had ability to maintain Are you sure? When they gave her the the ad body, did you see what she was going through?
There's even an interview she did.
Yeah. You didn't see.
It shouldn't be It shouldn't only be good story, but consider factf finding.
Uh which is why we are going to vet.
You get Lawrence. We are going to vet these people first. By the time we bring these people to you, you will know that at least for us, we have seen that they are telling the truth. Okay? Now, why we are saying many stories is because the story is what tells us why they need a car. And the story is what you guys are going to use to ga to gauge whether you actually give them a car or not. You get? So, the story is very the story part is very important. It's it's you guys that have to either believe the story or not believe the story. It's you guys that that are either gullible or not gullible. You get that's the democratic aspect of the the entire campaign.
Is that one Alex?
I don't have so and I've seen some uh some time ago and I felt bad there's a day when I told you guys before you sell your car tell me tell me we bought a at 9 million so now I think that's where we should be asking ourselves those questions can can you actually afford the car.
I inspected the car for a guy for the guy.
You guys remember?
We just know it was one of the most affordable cars of 2025 and I felt bad. Later on I talked to the mechanical who told me for me I can afford to maintain but I can't buy it now one started many stories but do you need it though why isn't vetting awarded VIP members I mean come to think about it Joan we are going to talk to these people on the phone every day the VIP guys don't have that time I have I have a team that is going to be vetting these people.
I have a team that's going to be vetting these people.
So let's let's let's let's create a simple test but why people are not buying wish like others according to inspection. Uh most of the people that buy wish buy it for commercial purposes and not everyone that buys a car is buying it for business. So that's the difference.
And the people that buy cars for business are the fewest nowadays.
It's not really a straight business that you know that if I buy this car, I'm going to make this much money.
So guys, before you buy a car, I want us to have a simple test.
before you give someone a car and and guys and you guys can ask them questions.
Yeah, you can ask them questions live and we see if you vote for them or not. Remember the voting will be Friday and Saturday. So you can decide to vote for them after Jes Friday and uh you you watch you watch them talk and ask them questions.
Yeah. So before you buy a car, ask yourself these questions. One, can I fuel a car without begging?
Good morning, David Kazova Lores. Good morning.
Can I fuel a car with the car without begging? Number two, can I service this car on time?
Then number three, can I replace tires when needed?
Number four, can I handle emergency repair of at least 500,000 to 1 million?
Okay, 500,000 is an exaggeration. It's I've not found a car that takes 500 emergency.
And of course, you need to ask yourself, do I know the fuel consumption of the car I want?
That's one of the reasons I've made some of these decisions for the person that's going to get the stalllet. It was turbocharged and I knew turbocharged will take some fuel. Turbocharged will be a car that will cook at this next owner. So, I removed the turbo system. I made it EFI. I did not even put it back to distributor Ninja coil. What does that does is that it's it saves fuel, a lot of fuel. It's 1.3. It has coil system.
Now for the next like one two years they don't have to buy tires. Yeah. Uh they don't have to service the gear gearbox.
They only have to service the engine which I am sure for most people it will be once a year. suspension.
By the time we take it uh for the test drive to By the time we take it for the test drive, are we having them on Friday? Friday because you guys need to to use Saturday morning to vote vote vote vote FX. Hi German speed force VIP. Welcome welcome.
How can you apply after paying the 200,000 shillings? Then then you'll get you'll receive a link and that link is where you will get the form to link to to log in. After you have uh filled in the form, one of the team, one of my team members will call you uh to ask you a couple of questions to make sure that you are fit for the campaign. If you go through the campaign, you'll go to the next stage, which is a video recording. My team then will come to you to record a video of you telling the story. So you need to prepare the story to tell these people why you need the car, why you the person they should give the car, can you afford to give to to maintain the car, will you be getting the money to maintain the car, how is the car going to uh stuff like that. So that's the story you're going to then the 200k is refundable if you don't go through the vetting.
If you don't go through the vetting, we refund. But once you go through the vetting, you don't get a refund. That's application fee to be part of the uh of the campaign. But the reason we want the 200,000 I had some Tik Tokers mentioning your name. You are the cause of these gearbox failures.
Service Steve Baros.
It started with uh one gentleman who is blaming a petrol station for not doing service for his gearbox. Not. So the gearboxes are not my problem. I I think I should actually do a video on that. I I told you guys on Chimeza on Friday, their gearboxes are not failing because people don't service them. The gearboxes, most of the gearboxes that I've seen that failed, they failed because they serviced them.
You get You remember I drove the Rexis for 2 years. The person that has it has driven it for a year now. We have never serviceed that gearbox. It has not died.
Some people are not serious. You remember the vites? The vits that I used to drive, the ones that I sold to some of you guys here, they have never been serviced. The gear boxes have never died. That's like 5 years ago, okay? 4 years. Now, they have not died.
The the thing is not not servicing gear boxes.
The the thing is people drive the CVTs bad. People put leakages on that gear, those gear boxes, and they don't mind to look there. Yeah. Some people buy cars that already have gearbox issues. I've told you time and again when I'm inspecting a car that has a CVT gearbox, one of the things I look at is does it have a leakage on the transmission?
People don't care.
I've seen people that inspect cars.
As long as the car doesn't make funny funny sounds in the engine.
Those are the people that you want to say that their gearboxes have failed because they don't service show me the grass.
Steve bars the gearboxes are failing because people are reckless.
They are reckless. Do you know that I know people that have never serviced their gearboxes since 2020? Most of the cars that are dying now have been bought in the past two years.
So can we say the the lack of service?
Do you know that some of your popular mechanics here?
You get Thank you, Lawrence. I drove my car for 3 years without doing any maintenance on gearbox. Exactly.
Let me let me first guys you need to watch this the broadcast this week. This this week is for creating awareness for the campaign properly and I'll give you the number probably Thursday or Friday 1.3 cc can be affordable for one to maintain service for someone serious.
Exactly. That's why me I made sure that car is very basic very basic and I hope and I like the fact that I'm giving away a car this year even next year I might give away a car it feels good of course I'll not be giving away expensive cars I'll not be giving away I'll be giving away cheap cars yeah and then you also have to ask yourself does this car help me earn save time improve my life in a measurable you need you need to be able to measure KPIs Yeah.
And then of course you need to ask yourself, am I buying a car for need, convenience, productivity, safety or or pressure? Some people buy cars because their friends have bought cars?
There's a guy like really, you're buying an SUV because your friends have SUVs.
Like when you fail to maintain those that SUV, Uh-huh.
What will happen? H pressure is expensive.
Pressure from friends, pressure from relatives, pressure from social media, pressure from people who will not contribute when the car breaks down. So don't buy cars to impress people otherwise.
So of course then the question you can ask is a deposit. If someone can pay first deposit, is it proof of proof of ability to own a car or proof of ownership readiness? For example, if someone buys a car on installment that may, for example, there's the guys that I've seen that keep looking for for cars where new cars in the bond where they pay 5 million and they pay the balance in 3 years.
always because they are not ready to own them.
Ownership readiness starts the moment they make an installment owners.
Let me do let me do let me do a video to clarify on the gearbox thing because people's gearboxes are failing because they are reckless.
How do you tell me you go to a petrol station for service and you sit in the launch and the service when you do you know me when I take my car for service I go and even look under my car to see if there is no leakage to see if there is a boot that is broken a bush I mean to see if if you get to see if I've scratched anything some people just drive cars People should be blaming themselves. You guys should give me some of those videos where people are blaming me.
I don't think anyone can mention me.
I don't think guys and and and before someone tells you ask yourself ask yourself I don't benefit if you service or don't service your car you can go ahead and service there are people that have inspected cars for and they went straight and service their cars there's a guy we bought a 25 million CV oil.
He did not change it because the transmission had a problem. He changed it because his brother had recently changed CVT oil and his car was fine.
gear because they all guessing. Let me let me ask you guys just go back to all the mechanics that have been oil. Who has ever done it?
Some of them, some of them are just subcontract contractors who subcontract people that can change that canv.
And I'm telling you the fact. So unless your car has a leakage, don't tamper with the gearbox.
And and let me tell you, there's a guy that I did forear.
But that's because the car had a problem because they wanted to because he wanted to. So yes, you can work on your CVT, change your oil, but don't do it because it's not an engine.
There's a reason why Even the guys that went to Chambo University and studed automotive engineering have not yet come out to say let's change the h my brother anything that these guys cannot rebuild don't let them don't let them service it for now unless it has a problem because then you know you have it has a problem. If you don't service it, it's actually going to get a problem.
2020 2021 2022 I think 2021 2022 gearbox.
My question How do you know that one can afford to own a car?
Because you're going to use those reasons to gauge uh to vote for people.
Um let me just go through the process again.
Every week we are going to receive applications and every week you guys are going to vote for one person.
the the one the person that receives the most votes is the one that wins that week and then he goes on to the finals.
Yeah. So every week we will vote until week 14. Week 15 will be for voting out of those 14 people who the winner is Friday and Saturday.
Week week one. This was the winner of the one many stories campaign week 14. Week 15 we'll have the 14 contestants go against each other. Week 15.
But so that's how it's going to be. Voting will be via Google forms. I found that that's one thing that is almost unhackable, uncompromisable.
Google and the results will be very clear.
Google the only way to change it is for one to get more people to vote for them than the other people. you get Google that's the manipulation of the Google form that's the only manipulation and it's cheap and it's free you get so we're going to be using Google form between 5W40 and 5W30 use 5W40 5W30 use 5W40 I sent you the video of the Volkswagen.
But you people can keep buying your Volkswagen. It's your money. It's not my money.
Something must kill a man.
And some of you guys, your cars will kill you.
You have an EV any EVs there?
I wonder if you have enough mechanics to fix EVs in Campala. There's nothing to fix on EVs.
The things that you have to fix on EVs are the things that are given where they give you warranty on them. So anyway guys, thank you for being part of this broadcast. I don't take it for granted.
Uh for the guys that don't have the money to buy a car at once, uh you you guys are welcome to join the one stallet many stories campaign. Yeah. And tell your story. Tell the people why they should be giving you uh the stallet. And I'll be showing you the stallet in the final stages because I made it very friendly for a person that may have fear to even own a car. And I'm encouraging you guys when the time comes to vote for people that need need need the car. Don't for vote for people that are simply coming to show that show us they are lucky.
