[00:01:51]>> So, the only other thing I want to do just because I have literally lost avoid highways with my Insta 360 on top and lost it.

So tell me about your experiences with uh you know driving in a Tesla with full self-driving as well and uh >> so I have never have I've never done the uh self-driving um like like pro I've driven the Teslas. I I've you know been in them plenty of time but this would be what second time ever self-driving since that since uh the other night.

[00:02:40]So, this is uh this is going to be an adventure, that's for sure.

[00:02:44]>> Yeah, exactly. And thankfully, you're you know, you're centrally located here in uh Willow Glenn area. So, this test is right next to the backyard of downtown San Jose, so we'll get a good test in. But, yeah, you see a lot of cars. You'll obviously be able to capture it with the Insta 360.

[00:03:00]Uh but there's a lot of cars coming here on the left, but this is actually a pretty busy street.

[00:03:04]>> It is a very busy street. Meridian's definitely busy.

[00:03:09]And shout out to Yum Yum Donuts. I used to go there growing up, man. [laughter] >> I don't know how they stay. I don't know how they stay open, but I never see anybody in there. [laughter] >> I I really don't.

[00:03:43]>> But what's your um you know, tell tell our audience a little bit about like you know, the vehicles you drive um and just your thoughts on you know um full self-driving and and really what Tesla's um you know, putting forth.

[00:03:57]>> Oh, yeah. I've I've uh I've always been a truck guy. Uh my dad drives trucks.

[00:04:04]I've done everything from, you know, my driving big rigs to driving, you know, half ton pickups. I my I drive I drive a Tacoma. Now, being in my Tacoma and being in this truck are two different worlds. [laughter] All right. In my Tacoma, I feel like I'm in a Honda.

[00:04:27]This thing is a tank. Yeah.

[00:04:29]>> This thing is a legit tank. Um, so I've always been a truck guy, but this this is a a complete it's it's completely different from what you're used to.

[00:04:43]>> What's been the kind of like the biggest brands or the best brands that you've had personal experiences with?

[00:04:48]>> Um, >> growing up with your parents?

[00:04:50]>> Uh, we've always had Toyotas.

[00:04:53]>> Mhm.

[00:04:54]>> Uh, Dodges, Chevys. Toyota's probably been our most consistent truck that we've had in my family with like not just like my dad and myself, but other relatives uh like Toyota. Um so seeing a Tesla looks a little different, but it holds, man. It It really does. This thing's pretty It's pretty neat.

[00:05:16]>> Yeah. And I I mean I you know before I transition like what is it that kept your family even yourself you know going out and getting a Tacoma like what is it about the Toyota brand?

[00:05:27]>> I I think the Toyota brand um we just never have issue. We've never had issues. Um very reliable. I think I've had I have like 160,000 thousand miles in my truck right now in my and I've haven't had any issues. Um, you know, just kept up with all the services and stuff. So, like that's probably been the one thing is like the reliability in in that in those Toyotas.

[00:05:59]I mean, I want to go as far as like my mom has a she drives a little Corolla, you know what I'm saying?

[00:06:05]So, I mean, we're kind of, you know, kind of a Toyota family, I guess.

[00:06:10]>> Yeah.

[00:06:11]>> My sister has a Ram 4, too. So, there we go.

[00:06:14]>> Yeah. Well, it's kind of for a good reason. I mean, there's a reason why Toyotas have built such a great uh I would say brand and legacy.

[00:06:22]>> Yeah.

[00:06:22]>> Um >> I could agree with that. I I could legitimately agree with that, >> you know. Um, and like cuz like even for myself, right, like I I had a Tacoma, I had a Honda, a couple of Honda Accords, I had a Subaru, that was my Subaru 2.5 Impreza was my first car. But, >> okay, >> you know, it's like you you stick with the the brands that are going to be, >> you know, you know, the maintenance, you know, they're reliable, they're going to get you to point A to point B, >> just just comfortable, too, right?

[00:06:50]>> Yeah. Exactly. Right. Um, and I think that's what you get with the Toyota brand, right? Yeah. Um the the difference though, like what I've realized from being in in this truck and obviously being my my Toyota uh other than the obvious look is is how it feels. Like the doors on these things are heavy.

[00:07:13]Like I have to like kind of put a little bit of weight just to close the door, right? Like >> um I mean it's just they're kind they're built they feel tough. I mean, you had the the hood open right now, and I just kind of felt the steel on here, and it's >> it's not small. And you know what I mean?

[00:07:37]>> Uh Yeah. So, it's like kind of That's pretty neat to see.

[00:07:41]>> Yeah.

[00:07:41]>> They're not flimsy cars.

[00:07:43]>> Yep.

[00:07:45]Yeah. Um what has been your experience?

[00:07:48]So, outside of, you know, kind of jumping in the Cybert truck and obviously cuz this truck has its clear differences. So, this is interesting, right? Sorry. We have this construction zone here blocking the lane and FSD literally knows to stay here because this is actually a left turn only.

[00:08:04]Right. Right there. But it literally handled that perfectly.

[00:08:07]>> It did.

[00:08:08]>> Yeah. Sorry.

[00:08:09]>> I was I was kind of thinking like, are we going to make a left or we going to go over make a right?

[00:08:13]>> Yeah. But look at that.

[00:08:15]>> Oh, that's interesting. But, you know, what has been your what has been what have you what have you heard about the Tesla brand versus, you know, what do you know? And, you know, be be honest here. You don't have to say a bunch of stuff for >> the, [laughter] you know, hey, I got a muscle car. you know, I >> I'm a I'm a always been a gas guy >> and um you know, obviously you hang out with guys that just have other muscle cars and have you know, gas trucks. You know, they obviously they the ugly and and you know, you don't know what you're doing with them and this and that. And I'm just like, you know, in my eyes, I I I really try to stay open-minded. Yeah.

[00:09:02]>> Um I you can't knock it till you try it.

[00:09:05]And I'm pretty sure anybody that's tries or or gets in this truck would probably be be a believer as well. Um at first I was kind of reluctant, you know, didn't want to be like, "Oh, well, we'll see how I'm not too sure of the Cyber Truck." But as soon as >> I got it, I'm like, "Uh, yeah, this is uh you made me a believer."

[00:09:27]>> Yeah.

[00:09:27]>> To say the least.

[00:09:29]>> Yeah. I mean, I think it I I don't think the look is for everyone. That's that's very clear. Um I think the thing that, you know, um that really kind of sets this apart is the full self-driving, the software updates that make the car better. I mean, like this truck can literally I mean, I don't need to spend, you know, $30,000 on, you know, an upgrade kit and all this other stuff. It comes pretty much >> stock.

[00:09:55]>> Okay.

[00:09:56]>> Right. cuz you can lift 17 in off the ground >> and then you can get a full >> u like handle your locking differentials and all of that stuff.

[00:10:05]>> Um and then again it's just kind of like a phone on wheels. Um but the other thing is that makes it I think unique is also uh it's the four-wheel steering and still by steer by wire. So as you're turning all four wheels are turning and here we have this biker here stops safely for them lets them go by. You can actually see them go by on on this. So, it actually looks like it's showing it actually shows a golf cart. I hadn't seen that before.

[00:10:29]>> Oh, that's interesting.

[00:10:30]>> Yeah.

[00:10:31]>> Huh.

[00:10:32]>> Um, but it drives like a luxury car.

[00:10:35]That's the thing that And this is you're you a lot of the audience will ask like what are all those crack guys? These are bulletproof windows. So, that's why you'll hear some of the the weird like kinks in movement cuz these are not stock >> windows. But, um, yeah. I mean, what are your thoughts on, you know, just full self-driving, man? Just literally like it's legit >> drinking Starbucks having a full conversation.

[00:11:01]>> Yeah. Like >> I just I kind of think of it as I think we had this conversation the other day.

[00:11:08]It's like how >> I mean you might be able to like >> like if you have a commute to like the city.

[00:11:15]>> Yeah.

[00:11:16]>> Which is you know it could be an hour, 45 minutes.

[00:11:19]>> Yeah. And you could literally get work done as you're going if you choose to. You know, you could be >> on your laptop working as because it's and as your car is taking you to work, which is pretty darn awesome, right?

[00:11:38]>> Um >> I can't confirm or deny if I already do that.

[00:11:40]>> Yeah, right. You know, we are in the Bay Area. [laughter] >> But yeah, just stay clear on him. Yeah, I >> Yeah, moved all lane the full lane over.

[00:11:52]>> And we're in downtown San Jose, so this is not like uh downtown San Francisco may be quite as busy, but you got a million people in the city.

[00:12:00]>> Yeah, it's pretty it it's not as busy, especially it's a Sunday, but it's Yeah, there's some cars around here.

[00:12:07]>> Yeah. Out of your network of people, like how many people even know that this is possible in a Tesla?

[00:12:17]I think there's I think if you live in the Bay Area, it's it's kind of common.

[00:12:21]>> Yeah.

[00:12:22]>> But I I have family in like Southern California that, you know, might not be big on the tech world and uh I don't think they've they're too knowledgeable.

[00:12:36]>> Yeah. Yeah.

[00:12:36]>> So, I think other outside of Liberia or or the city or even San Jose, I think I think people don't really realize how reliable and how I'm I'm just how cool self-driving is.

[00:12:49]>> Yeah.

[00:12:51]>> I am a driver though. I'm not going to lie. I love driving car, you know. I love driving my cars, >> you know. I And u But it is neat to just sit there and just >> Yeah.

[00:13:04]feel pretty safe that you're being driven, right?

[00:13:06]>> Yeah, exactly. Well, I think that's the big thing here. Um, love seeing people's reactions to this truck cuz it's um but yeah, I think the the big thing here is is that, you know, I think especially when you think of the new Toyota, I mean, the Model Y now is the bestselling car in the world, and that includes gas and electric.

[00:13:25]>> Oh, that's interesting. I didn't know that.

[00:13:27]>> For the past 3 years.

[00:13:28]>> Oh, wow.

[00:13:28]>> In the world.

[00:13:29]>> Huh. So, this is no longer a, oh, that's, you know, like one, you know, one cool car that kind of just does some cool things, right? This is now the bestselling car in the whole world.

[00:13:40]>> Oh, that's so interesting. I know.

[00:13:41]>> And so, like, I don't think that buying a Tesla means you have to get rid of your gas car or like, you know, your muscle car, whatever it is, right? Cuz that might be your weekend car. But really like with this like when you're talking about driving like a 100 miles a day, seven, whatever your commute is, um this can really just completely kind of change your life.

[00:14:01]>> Oh, absolutely. You know, >> absolutely.

[00:14:03]>> Yeah. Absolutely commute from client to client from time to time and and Yeah. This is >> or just going to the golf course, right?

[00:14:13]>> Yeah. [laughter] >> Yeah. Oh, so this actually went around the truck that was Yeah. in our lane.

[00:14:21]>> Exactly.

[00:14:22]>> And it just stopped. It It went around it.

[00:14:24]>> Exactly.

[00:14:24]>> Oh, that's interesting.

[00:14:29]But yeah, so we've had what uh several scenarios here. Just people uh getting out of their car on the main street, a truck being in the wrong lane. While I was driving here, I literally had a person all the way in the left lane just come and make a right turn in front of me.

[00:14:47]>> That's scary.

[00:14:48]>> Yeah.

[00:14:50]>> Um but yeah, so you know I think what are your thoughts on um on just you know I think Tesla in general as far as like you know people getting inside of it and experiencing it like cuz I mean obviously last year and we don't have to get political but there was this huge polarization right and people were like oh like you drive a Tesla and you're MAGA.

[00:15:10]>> Right. Right. Right.

[00:15:11]>> Right. But it's like most of the base of those people are actually no they're Democrats EV or green friendly clean energy and all that stuff. So here I just have it pulling over just because we're going to multiple stops here. So it's just going to pull over at the city hall.

[00:15:25]>> And then all all I'm going to do is just select it again. Go to the next stop. So it looks like we're going to go to San Pedro Square now.

[00:15:35]>> All right. So I wonder if it's going to What will it do? Is it would it just would >> specifically? So there >> I would have been like, "Hey, make a YouTube right here." [laughter] >> Yeah. No, it's going to it's going to map it out.

[00:15:50]>> Here. That's >> all right. So, it's going to go uh I thought it was I I legit thought I like looked [clears throat] around. I thought it was going to make a U-turn. I'm like this if it had made a U-turn, that would have been pretty awesome.

[00:16:09]Um, but yeah. So, what are your what are your thoughts on like even just like autonomy? I guess let's just jump into autonomy and like cuz there's there's going to be the people who want their weekend cars like you know, muscle heads. I don't know what I guess I don't know if there's a term for, you know, gas heads, whatever they may be.

[00:16:26]>> Gearheads. Exactly. You know, the tinkers, the people who want to do that stuff. Um, I think there's always going to be if you're going to have a fun weekend car, you're going to people going they're going to have their toys and use them, >> right?

[00:16:39]>> But this this really does I mean the seats are comfortable. Uh, the ride's fun.

[00:16:47]Uh, like I I mean I just can't imagine I mean I would I I can't imagine not wanting to drive or not wanting to be in this car and have it drive you somewhere, you know?

[00:17:01]>> I think that's the overall feel, right?

[00:17:02]Is just that it's there's uh so that was a four-way stop. We saw this lady and this guy go by on both ways and even that car pulled up but it knew to go right. So, um, and actually, let's see what what are the other stops it has. So, hit up and we'll go to Okay.

[00:17:27]>> Yeah. But, >> yeah, I think it's just, you know, people don't realize what's happening, right? Um, there So, Tesla has four cities right now with unsupervised drivers.

[00:17:39]>> Okay. Um, Houston, Dallas, Austin, and now they just launched Miami.

[00:17:44]>> So, you're talking two states now, too.

[00:17:46]>> So, you know, whereas you think of Whimo, they only have a couple thousand cars versus Tesla has literally like millions of vehicles they could turn on like that with a software update and it can drive you from point A to B and you don't do anything, >> right?

[00:18:02]>> You know, >> right, >> which is just absolutely wild. I I got to I I feel I feel like it's like, you know, the old school parent would tell their kids, uh, you're going to learn to drive, you're going to have to learn how to drive a stick also.

[00:18:19]>> Do you think moving on in the in the future, it's going to be like, all right, we got these self-driving cars, but you still need to learn how to drive. Like the learn how to drive. Like, it's something you just have to do.

I got kids who are young >> and I also have a nephew who's 16 and he's in that mentality now. So, we're going to make a left here. This guy's coming out. Actually, two people. And again, it's uh well, we're actually at a red light. My bad. I thought it was going to be an unprotected left turn. Um but actually, look at this. It's interesting. It realized that was blocked and then making left. So, but again, I'm going to make sure it pulls over. I don't want to go inside of there.

[00:19:11]>> Um, but I think it's going to be split, man, because I think it's going to be one of those things where I think the next generation is not going to want to drive. I think that's just it's a thing, right? And they would rather take the Uber. They would So, there may be a whole wave of people that just don't >> that just don't don't drive.

[00:19:30]>> Yeah. Exactly. And so here's the here's an interesting thing is that so there's going to be those people. Then there's going to be the people who are like, "Hey, I want to drive, but I'm going to be driving an autonomous vehicle the whole time, right?

[00:19:41]>> But they're still going to need to learn the the hand signals and, you know, the braking and all like just kind of like the >> the uh the laws of the land, >> right?

[00:19:50]>> Um, so I think there's going to be that aspect except there is going to be vehicles like the Tesla Cyber Cab that don't have pedals or steering wheel at all in it.

[00:19:59]that little gold car has none of that.

[00:20:02]>> Yes.

[00:20:03]>> And they're and they're starting to produce them.

[00:20:05]>> So these are not this is not like um like vapor wear, right? This is actually stuff that they're doing.

[00:20:12]>> Um they haven't released them yet, but there there's a lot of indications right now that we're like we're we're months away from them releasing it.

[00:20:21]>> So you're going to get in a steering wheel.

[00:22:02]One of the things I was learning is um right I got my drone license recently and we had to learn I had to literally learn pretty much like air traffic controls and all right so we're going to looks like look at this it's just going to make a right sees that it's completely blocked off shout out to the wayo here um but so look at that it literally did not it did not go that route and we even have a person stepping out here so I'm going tell it to go to like let's go to San Jose State. Um just because again it looks like that area is blocked off anyways. But it was able to handle that, right? All right, Grock, pick a couple spots at San Jose State to do some testing at.

[00:22:53]South Garage at 377 South7th Street and the North Garage on San Fernando Street at 9th look like spacious spots for testing. They're big parking structures on campus, often less crowded in evenings.

So, I think for you, man, what do you um like at what point for you like would you have like maybe two cars where you were having one that is just kind of Yeah, it's like the Toyota the Toyota that just sits in the in the parking lot that takes you everywhere versus having, you know, the weekend car.

[00:27:11]>> Um that that could be a possibility in the near future.

[00:27:17]>> Oh, yeah. I I will >> look at this. It's literally going around the car that's making a left there, dealing with the person on the right that was going in.

[00:27:25]>> Yeah, this that is a very high possibility just the amount of >> especially with gas too, >> right? Oh, yeah.

[00:27:33]>> I mean >> I mean you just I could charge up at a client's, you know, parking lot and I'll be set, you know, for for the next couple days, whatever, you know, like I I have no problem with it. Um, I think at this point it just it's like just becomes a convenience, you know, just so convenient to do.

[00:27:54]>> Yep. From your perspective, so we'll see where this takes us cuz I'm not too familiar with um and again, I just have it pulling over, but what do you think is the like the biggest gap for people buying an electric vehicle?

[00:28:07]>> I think uh >> especially being a gear head yourself.

[00:28:09]>> Oh, yeah. uh for the amount of money I just put in that other car, [laughter] there's still gap for me, but I think sometimes it is the cost. Um >> yeah, >> you know, Tesla is I think known to be like a luxury vehicle now, you know? So, it's like I think maybe people want think it's a little bit more expensive than it really are. I think maybe you mentioned the other day that they're actually not that bad.

[00:28:39]>> Yeah. Well, that's a com. Yeah, exactly.

[00:28:42]But hit me with some if there's any other reasons.

[00:28:45]>> I mean, I think that uh and then it's just it's a little it's a it's different, right? Like most people are I think used to the gauges in front of them, the steering wheel, but here everything's like on a screen which is like >> Yeah.

[00:29:01]>> Yep.

[00:29:04]>> Looks like they're someone's playing drums.

[00:29:06]>> Oh. And I was like, man, what what are you doing with your speakers? What is this noise up here?

[00:29:20][laughter] >> Um, but yeah, that's the thing. Um, you know, there there are definitely uh like when you think of an average the average American who buys a car, the average selling price of a new vehicle, which is crazy to even think it's even this high, >> $57,000.

[00:29:35]>> Right. And Teslas are are way below that. They're like, you know, $10 to $15,000 below that. But the used car, the used Tesla market, you can go get one like a 21 22 for 20 to 25.

[00:29:51]>> I I have seen that. I I've I've done a little bit of homework.

[00:29:54]>> I have seen that.

[00:29:55]>> I'm just saying it's like, you know, I would still say you want to get a in my opinion, you would want to get a vehicle. It's called um hardware 4 full self-driving. that is what this is built on.

[00:30:07]>> The the hardware 3 is a little bit behind.

[00:30:11]>> Okay.

[00:30:11]>> So, that's why that's the most important thing to look for if you're going to get a car. It's going to be the hardware for uh full self-driving. But outside of that, I mean, >> it really is just a game changer when you get it. So, I think, you know, um if you can't buy a new vehicle, there's literally like no reason to not. Um if you're going to get a used car, especially something that's going to be a commuter, it's definitely worth checking out. Um it and look at this. This is literally going >> I'm not going to lie. I'm I'm going to tell you right now, I held my breath.

[00:30:47][laughter] I was like, "This thing is heavy. This thing is This thing is big and square."

[00:30:51]I thought it was I I really was like, "This not going to attempt to squeeze in between those two cars."

[00:30:57]>> Yeah, it did, dude.

[00:30:58]>> It did. It did.

[00:31:02]>> And actually, that was one of my concerns cuz I think when um even when I took when when we did a video, I'll have to post a link. We put out the video, but the one I did um with your nephew like 2 years ago.

[00:31:14]>> Um it didn't have full self-driving then.

[00:31:17]>> It right. It hadn't come out yet cuz it came out in probably like the September cuz I got my truck in February. I think it came out in September. But um either way, it could have it could have been maybe around that time. But this was actually one of those vehicles I thought that they were going to it was going to take a little bit longer and they but either way they've released it and dude it's gotten so good.

[00:31:39]>> I mean you Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean now they're they're vans. I see. I saw the uh Tesla big rig >> on A80, >> dude.

[00:31:48]>> Just just probably a couple like last month or something, which I thought >> was interesting cuz if I'm cor if I'm correct, >> the driver was in the middle of the Yes.

[00:31:58]>> of the of the rig. I'm just like, >> yeah, >> two screens on the sides.

[00:32:03]>> Oh, that would be sick. I got Now, now you I got to go check that out, >> dude. That can uh do 500 m with 80,000 lb.

[00:32:12]>> Which is the standard for like trucking.

[00:32:14]>> Right. Right. Right. Right. Right.

[00:32:15]>> So, and here in California it's 50 cents cheaper or 50% cheaper than per mile than a diesel truck.

[00:32:24]>> Huh.

[00:32:26]Any other state it's 20% cheaper. But like they they they built the semifactory in Reno, Nevada area parks.

[00:32:34]Okay.

[00:32:35]>> So, it's just a matter of time before they ramp that down.

[00:32:37]>> I I kind of want to I I would love to see one of those trucks. I would love to drive one. Definitely. It's on the bucket list for sure.

[00:32:43]>> Dude, drive that thing or does it drive itself and you're just in it?

[00:32:47]>> Not yet. Not yet. I have not.

[00:32:48]>> So, you still So, you still have to drive that?

[00:32:51]>> Yes, they haven't. Yeah, it's not quite there yet.

[00:32:55]They're probably testing, right? They could be. So, here's the thing. They haven't released a video of it driving itself yet, but they have like I wouldn't be surprised if they're testing it out right now.

[00:33:20]>> The self-driving is uh it's different. like uh you know I was always like I said I was kind of reluctant even to get in like a Whimo or anything like that just because I just you know I I I got to drive or I need I need a person to drive me. But um you know right now being in this and how smooth and pretty it it feels pretty normal like it's it's just an easy drive. Yeah, >> maybe even I'm going say maybe a little even safer than some people I've been in the car with. Oh, let's see. What is What are we doing here?
