The Hidden Homeless Mountain Community That You've NEVER SeenAdded:
I'm about to do one of the dumbest things I've ever done in my life.
>> This is the sketchiest thing I've ever done. This could be more dangerous than I thought. Holy crap. I cannot believe I climbed up here. And I'm going to take you guys with me. A long time ago, I was looking for this camp. It's a camp full of people. It's many camps within a It's a community. It's a small community. At one point, I was told that there's a small store there. It's a homeless store. It's never left the back of my mind. This is by far one of the hardest encampments to reach. There is no actual trail or way or path to this encampment.
That's why I can't take the van. Even my bike will not be easy. Why do I want to do this? Because I've heard that they're actually going to be getting kicked out soon. If I want to put this off any longer, there will not be an encampment up there to go see. Let's go load up on supplies and see if we can make it to the hidden homeless community tucked back on the side of a mountain with absolutely no access by a vehicle.
Yeah. No, I've never had anything that was this hard to get to. And it's in my own backyard. I think we're going to grab a couple cases of water. I say a couple, I should probably only take one.
Remember, I got to haul this stuff up the top of a mountain.
So, if I grab too much, I don't know what I'm going to do with it. I don't know. But I can't wait to show you guys how I'm going to get everything up there, cuz that's kind of the coolest part about this. I got a new I don't want to say toy, but a new tool that's going to help me help more people. And uh something that's going to help me get a lot of stuff to deep encampments. We got a a Wendy's across the street. It's way back there, but there's a Wendy's.
Cases of water. Baconators. That's the plan. Let's grab these suckers.
Now, we're going to pull out the secret weapon.
Check that out. Look at that. I'm going to tell you a lot more about this thing a little bit later. Right now, let's get it loaded up.
Not bad. Well, you guys, I got my little pocket knife. Got my cough drops. I hope I don't need either. the backpack full of socks just in case there's any puppies up there.
Got some dog bowls. And in here there's some Narcan. You never know. To be fair, uh I'm going to play it safe and probably take a cough drop right now.
I'm not currently sick. I just have a sore throat and my voice is not what it should be. I'm doing my best. So, as I said, if I don't do this now, I don't think it's ever going to happen. We got to go today. We have to go right now.
Oh, it's snug. I've never hauled this much stuff on a bike in my life. Here we go.
It's locked. It's pretty sweet. Yeah.
Check that out. If you are going to lock up your bike ever, always make sure you go through a frame point where you cannot take the lock out. If you just go around this, technically someone could break this down and then uh just slide the bike out. So, don't do that.
>> What I think you order?
>> I wanted to get a lot of burgers. Is it going to be tough for you guys? You have enough to do it. I don't know.
>> I don't want to make it hard on you.
>> Like, how much?
>> I got 20.
>> 20. If you can wait for Of course, we can do 20.
>> 20.
>> Sure.
>> Oh, yeah. I'm sure.
>> See you.
>> You know I am.
>> 183. Yeah.
>> All right, we got it. I do a lot of stuff like this. I go into some pretty scary places sometimes. I'm not scared of the people. It's the journey. I want you guys to understand when you see the journey that I'm going to make to get to this encampment. People live there and I do this every day. In fact, I've even been told that um some of them have jobs and work and commute. Tough. I can't imagine what it would be like. And we're about to go find out. I'm excited to see what people have brought back there, what they've built, how they live, how they survive, what do they need the most, and um what brought them there.
Why are they all the way back there?
We're going to find out all that and more hopefully here very soon. Whenever you go to a restaurant and you order a whole bunch of food, I hope you guys pay attention what I did there. I always ask, "Is this going to be okay? Are you guys going to be able to handle this? Do you have enough food for this? Is there enough staff here? I don't want to ruin your day by ordering 20 burgers. Might not sound like a lot, but um it still can be really tough. I'm really worried because I know I'm going to have to push my bike. I'm going to have to pick the bike up to get over things while it has all of this stuff in it. And uh that's not going to be easy.
>> I got a question for you. Are you staying back there?
>> Where's that at? All the way way back.
What they call the end of the world.
Like where you go up the side of the mountain up there?
>> I don't I don't know any of the end of the world.
>> You don't?
>> No.
>> Where do you stay?
>> No, I just kind of wander around.
>> Okay.
>> What's your name?
>> I don't have one.
>> Okay, that's cool. I'm Nate.
>> Nice to meet you.
>> Nice to meet you. I've never met you before, man.
>> Yeah, the introduction seems kind of unusual, especially talking.
>> I get that.
>> There we go.
>> Thank you. You want a burger?
>> Sure.
>> Okay, cool. Hey, it was nice meeting you.
>> Oh, yeah. You also. Thanks again.
>> Yeah, you're welcome.
>> For some reason, I thought I was going to start speaking and I didn't know what I was telling him.
>> Oh, you're good. All right, we got 19 burgers cuz I gave one away to a guy here in the inside of Wendy's. It would have been cool if he stayed up there and could have gave me some more information, but he does not. It's kind of a a loner wanderer of types and uh that's great, but um no help on on where I'm going.
I'm really not exaggerating. I maybe I'm not showing enough emotion, but um I'm actually kind of scared right now. I I don't want to. There's no other way to this camp than the way I'm going to go.
And the people that live there go that way every single day. And it is extremely dangerous. And I it's honestly why I haven't been here in this amount of time. But if I don't go now, I'm never going to go.
There's no other option.
This is it.
Buckle up, buttercup. Let's make it happen.
Well, buddy, have a great day.
>> Yeah, often.
>> Yeah. Really glad I got to meet you today. You need any socks?
>> Uh, I think I actually have them back.
Okay, I'll see you around, dude. Here we go. I'm not looking forward to this, but I am looking forward to getting to the camp. I'm just not looking forward to the journey there, if that makes sense.
Like I mentioned, the only way to access this encampment is from the freeway. If city officials, county officials, sheriffs, whoever it may be, if they wanted to access this encampment, pick up the trash, whatever it may be, the only way that they could do that is if they shut down the entire freeway. And that's exactly what they did the other day. NDOT, Nevada Department of Transportation, shut down the freeway and came up there and cleaned up tons of trash and told them, "Hey, you guys got to get the heck out of here." And I was told by a friend who was just recently kicked out. Oddly enough, this friend of mine is somebody you guys have seen in my videos. He was the homeless man living on the side of mountain. Eddie's the one who told me about what is happening. A lot of ups and downs with Eddie's story. And and make sure that you like this video and subscribe to the channel. Enable your notifications because I'm going to be posting a cool, very cool update with Eddie very, very soon.
I can't believe people do this.
This is the sketchiest thing I've ever done.
Holy crap.
So windy. I might lose my hat.
There's no going back now.
I have dust in my eyes.
Oh man, I think I'm getting close.
There it is.
Now I got to get my bike over this wall.
I think I'm going to unload it and reload it cuz this it's just too heavy.
I can't I can't carry it over here.
Oh my god, this is going to be so bad.
Telling you guys sometimes I wonder if I was dropped on the head when I was a kid.
Okay, hard part's over.
Or it's just the gun.
I don't know.
Well, you guys, uh I don't know if you could tell, but that's the freeway.
And uh I didn't I had to go the opposite direction to get here.
I've never done anything like that.
That seemed like the dumbest thing I've ever done. The camp the camp is right up there.
Well, the start of the camp, it goes all the way up and over that mountain.
There's people camping even on the other side of it.
I don't know how far I'm going to be able to go, but I want to go as far as I possibly can. I might have to leave the bike behind and hope it doesn't get stolen.
I don't know. This This is Here we go. Gosh, this is sketchy. And people do this every day to get to where they live. And I cannot fathom that.
Wow.
The reason they come out to this place is because it's illegal to camp in the city. So, they've came so far that they thought they would be left alone.
However, even here, they're kicking them out, and they will not be here for very much longer.
There's room at the shelter.
They can go there, but for reasons I understand, a lot of them don't want to.
We got to stay in a super low gear. Keep this thing Whoa.
Whoa. That pack is so heavy. I'm probably going to have to walk it up.
Yeah, I'm not going to have a choice. I can use the motor and push the bike. And because there's enough weight on it, it actually kind of works.
Oh my gosh.
We're definitely right at the beginning.
We're here. I can see the encampment there. There's everybody's bikes and everything all along the side of the road. I mean, they don't know me. So, if I leave mine there, it might be gone when I come back.
Oh gosh, what a journey. And I'm I feel like the journey's just begun cuz from what I'm told, this thing goes all the way to the other side of the mountain. I see somebody. Let's go meet her. This thing's turned into a pack mule. Hey there. Are you hungry?
>> I did what I could to haul up some burgers and some waters for you guys.
I've never been up here before. Uh, yeah. It's a quite hike and a long distance.
>> Eddie told me I should be careful.
>> Who else?
>> My name is Nate.
>> You're Nate.
>> I'm Nate.
>> I'm Penny.
>> Eddie said your boyfriend's Gary.
>> Yeah.
>> And he'd probably be at work.
>> Yeah, he's at work.
>> Have they been up here and told you guys to leave yet?
>> Uh, yeah. About a hill.
>> Okay. So, you guys are on the edge right now.
>> Yeah.
>> Here's a Baconator.
Thank you. I wanted to see if I can kind of, you know, help you guys as much as I can. I got um socks. Uh does anyone up here have pets?
>> They all have cats.
>> Who would be the best to talk to to kind of have show me around a little bit? Or >> Jessie?
>> Really?
>> I think I met her a long time ago >> from the south. Little skinny girl.
>> Yep. Her.
>> Yeah. Yeah, I remember her.
>> She's just hanging out for the day.
>> Okay, let me give you a water right now.
Even if I break open the pack, you got to have something.
>> Thank you.
>> If I leave my bike around, like just there and walk up. You think anybody's going to mess with it?
>> Uh, no.
>> Okay.
>> Nice to meet you.
>> You, too. I'll see you in a little bit, I guess. Here we go. Farthest I'll be able to get this thing is right here. I'm going to leave my bike here. Carry what I can. I can't wait to see how far back this goes. Who lives back there? How they live. I really hope my bike doesn't disappear.
Now that we're at the bottom of this encampment and there is a long ways to go back through the mountains up here.
This could just be the beginning of my journey. Even though the scariest part for me is over. This is the hardest part. That was the scariest part.
That being said, let's take a second to thank the sponsor of today's video, Electric Bikes. Because without this thing and this thing, none of this would be possible. This bike is going to get me to places that not only I but other people may have never been before. With all this weight, having these durable hydraulic disc brakes, essential. Not to mention, this whole thing folds in half.
Comes with an awesome bike lock works really well and it's compact and packs on the bike very easy. I love that thing. This is the large food delivery package from Electric. It's a game changer. I can't wait to do more and more stuff with this big old bag right here, loaded full of food and supplies to go into deep encampments that I cannot reach in the van. Right now is the perfect time to check out electric bikes because they're having Memorial Day sale. And if you guys are interested in getting one of the number one selling ebikes in America, right now is one of the best times you could ever do exactly that. You guys cannot go wrong getting yourself a electric XP4 perfect entrylevel bike for anyone trying to get on the road, save some money on gas. We all know how expensive that is right now. And uh get where you need to go or do something like I do and go help people. Some burgers down here for anybody else who walks up. Maybe they'll get the idea. I should have put a sign that said free burgers on this thing. I don't have a marker or nothing.
Hopefully people get it. I know there's a lot of trash, you guys. People are gonna say stuff, but you got to remember how are they supposed to get it out of here.
Anybody home?
My name's Nate. I got burgers and water.
You're hungry?
No. Okay.
I think that's Junior's encampment there. He's not home. See a little spot where he cooks.
Anybody home?
Wow.
Oh my gosh. It's a chainsaw. This could be more dangerous than I thought. Holy crap.
What's up, man?
of the hike and then some. There is no way I could bring a bike up this. I'm out of shape.
Hey, is that Ryan?
>> Yeah.
>> How you doing?
>> Good. How are you?
>> Good.
>> Yeah. This is nice to meet you.
>> Nice to meet you, too.
>> I haven't seen you forever.
>> I know. Remember the address once and then had to take it back and exchange it.
>> That's right. I've been meaning to come up here, but it's not easy to get here.
>> Oh, no, it's not.
>> No, >> not at all.
>> No, this is a trek.
>> Yeah.
>> And you guys do this all the time.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, I brought a bunch of Baconators and water.
>> Right on.
>> Socks and uh some bowls if the >> cat needs one. There's four pairs.
>> Nice.
>> Yeah.
>> There you go. And then, of course, >> I got a chair so I can pull it out. You can sit down if you want.
>> You sure? Yeah, man.
>> I don't mean this in a bad way, but you don't look like you would eat two. But would you want to?
>> Heck yeah.
>> Okay.
>> I hope you guys don't mind. I'm going to take a water myself, dude.
>> It is.
>> Absolutely. You want to come down and grab it?
>> It's a trek out here, man. It really is.
>> Did you get one?
>> Please.
>> Ryan, how long have you been out here?
>> I don't know. I've been out here all together for like almost 10 years.
>> What brought you outside?
>> My wife passed away and I just kind of >> Oh, I'm sorry, man.
>> Went up, you know.
>> It's okay. It uh But uh like, you know, you get yourself into a situation like this and then before you know it, it's you know, more so hard to get out to get out.
>> Yeah. What was life like before this?
What would what' you do? You were probably really >> I've been a licensed vocational nurse. I went to a motorcycle mechanics institute. You know, I can do whatever.
It's just figuring out, you know, what's feasible to get to from here. I just don't want this to be the >> the end.
>> Yeah. No, >> no. Hey, bud.
>> How you doing?
>> Good. It's good to see you.
>> Yeah, you too. We met over there and I said clear. You're like, "Oh, you guys."
I was like, "Well, yeah, I do."
>> Cool. Yeah. This is a trek, man. You would think nobody would ever come back here and tell you guys to leave.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Right.
>> How long have you been back here then?
>> Been about a little over a year. When they kicked everybody out over there, did he everybody just kind of came here?
>> Kicked out down the way down where Eddie is.
>> Uhhuh.
>> We were down there and then when they >> everybody out of there. We kind of migrated this way.
>> I also I got socks and stuff, too, dude.
I know you could use some, huh? There's some socks for you.
>> Yeah. You're very welcome. Did I give you a bowl? I don't think I did. Here's a collapsible bowl. It doesn't have to be for animals, >> but uh 81% of the land in Nevada is owned by government.
>> I think they could do something with it.
>> Well, I mean, they already have done something with it.
>> It's underground storage facilities what it is.
>> I know. Out toward Hawthorne and all that. All the ammunition storage.
>> Yeah, >> a lot of that.
>> There's something under these mountains, too. When you dig down, like trying to dig your place out, you hit chunks of concrete and then the drones that fly off of that mountain. I'm not the we're not the only ones that see them. people that live out in Lockwood that I've talked to see them as well.
>> Really?
>> Yeah.
>> I have more.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah, I have a few. No, no. I I >> No, you >> I brought what I could carry. Obviously, you guys aren't somewhere where I could drive my car.
>> You have to pack everything up a little bit at a time. That's how I got the food up here at 6.
>> Or we can arrange a time and we can meet down at Wendy's with people that want.
>> We usually do that.
>> Yeah. You know, that's what we do is we usually meet people down there because everybody goes right to that spot.
>> Who's Kitty?
>> Um, >> it became the community. It's been around since since Donnie.
>> Hi.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Cocksmith.
>> Yeah. I haven't seen Donnie in forever, man. What's the hardest part about living up here?
>> The rattlesnakes. They're all over the place. There's a bunch of them.
>> Summertimes with nothing. Kill two a day or between the people we know.
>> Has anyone ever been bit? I have before, but not out here.
>> And when's the last time you guys saw one?
>> Couple of days ago, I saw I saw all three in one day. I saw a pretty good sized gopher snake and I saw a rattlesnake and I saw a California banded king snake as well.
>> Oh, wow. How many more people are up there?
>> Uh, one, two, three, four.
>> Is anybody up there right now?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Ronnie and Da and Woody.
>> Okay. I should probably haul them up some stuff, too.
>> Yeah, we could. Um, you want some help?
We get to take >> I mean, sure.
>> They are up at the very top.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah, man. You do a lot for a lot of people.
>> I try. I never feel like it's enough though, dude.
>> And right now, they're chasing everybody out of everywhere. Where's everybody going to go? You I mean, not everybody's going to go to the shelter. It doesn't fit for everybody. It's not going to work for everybody. There's no other option. Yeah, it's not it's not something >> were kind of a step up from that, but then the area of that is scary for someone like me that doesn't really want to be right there in town by myself, right?
>> Yeah.
>> And so I understand how it works and until I know that that's something I can commit to, then there's really no point in going.
>> Yeah. One thing I I always try to be pretty careful about like showing where people's spots are and not blowing their spot, but they literally got you guys on the freaking news now.
>> Yep. Let's go. That's I'm not always the easiest person to follow cuz I go hard.
>> It's all right.
>> And you did see Penny cuz that's where she would be. But you >> I saw the I saw her down there.
>> This is the rope that you can hold on to to help.
>> Is it good enough for both of us?
>> Yeah.
>> Holy crap. I cannot believe I climbed up here.
>> Jesse, he brought a bag of of burgers.
So, if I post while the water's down at Ryan, if you go that way, you're welcome to.
>> I got some with me, too.
>> Oh, he's got >> And some socks. Go around.
>> Can I go around?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Okay, we'll do.
>> The last thing I'd want to see is a freaking rattlesnake.
>> Yeah. I don't want to mess up the door.
Was it open right here? He still >> What did he say? Somebody said, "I'm sorry. Are you going to go back around the other place?
>> Does anybody ever fall up here and get hurt? Yes.
>> If a paramedic had to come, where would they go?
>> It was labeled as end of the world two-point home.
>> Oh my gosh. Please be careful. Man, you are socked in there, aren't you?
>> Yeah. He's got a pretty good setup.
>> There we go.
>> Hey, Ronnie and D.
>> What a view.
>> Hey there. How you doing?
>> Good. This is beautiful up here. Yes, it is.
>> How the hell did you get all this stuff up here?
>> Nice to meet you.
>> Nice to meet you, buddy.
>> Yeah, nice to meet you, too.
>> A lot about you.
>> Hopefully. Good stuff.
>> All good.
>> Good. Cool. How many of you guys up here?
>> Just me and Da here and my twin brother is right down below.
>> Have they came and told you guys you got to go?
>> Yeah, they're going to have a snap crew out here the 13th of next month.
>> There's some socks for for you. And then I got some smaller ones for you.
>> Thank you. Oh, thank you very much.
>> Hey, I brought what I can and then tomorrow I'll try to bring some more supplies. Obviously, I can't really get my car up here.
>> Yeah, it's a little bit hard.
>> How long have you guys been right here?
>> We've been here for over a year.
>> What's the hardest thing for you guys to to, you know, have up here? What do you need the most living on the side of the mountain like this?
>> The biggest thing I would have to say food.
>> Food. Food. Water. Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Pet food. cuz we have so many cats.
>> Oh, and they're all wild kind of.
>> No, actually.
>> Well, they're not wild at night. Some of them are, but they get warmed up pretty quick.
>> Yeah.
>> How often do you guys go up and down the hill?
>> Sometimes eight times a day.
>> What?
>> Yeah.
>> There sometimes it's non-stop.
>> Yeah.
>> Do you guys eat Well, >> usually when we cook, we try and make enough for everybody.
>> Yeah. Where do you guys think you're going to go when they kick you out?
>> We're going to have to go indoors. I mean, they're going to pretty much force us into it >> with them pulling what they just pulled the last Wednesday.
>> Yeah.
>> Which is when they blocked the freeway and everything.
>> They took They took all our stuff. They told us to put it there >> and then they came through and took it all at 3:00 in the morning or whatever.
>> No, it was midnight.
>> Midnight?
>> Yeah, it was midnight.
>> How many pets do you have?
>> We have Well, it's okay. We're dogs eating right now.
>> Okay, hold on. I got I got some bowls.
There's a dog bowl for you guys.
>> Yeah. Is there something about living up here that you really really like and enjoy?
>> I'm a mountain guy.
>> And it's quiet for the most part.
>> Yeah, >> we've picked right. Everybody here is all good. Everybody's good.
>> Cool.
>> Yep.
>> Do you mind if I walk over there a little bit or anything? Go >> ahead.
>> As long as I don't hit a rattlesnake.
>> Eyes on the ground. Wow. This is by far the craziest camp I've ever been to. Who had the idea to come up here?
>> We kind of all did cuz we were That was my tree right there.
>> Oh, on the other side.
>> Yeah.
>> So, you just kind of looked at the canyon all the time.
>> Yeah. I said, "You know what? We could probably hide in this."
>> Hey, I heard a long time ago that somebody had a store up here.
>> Who did?
>> That was him.
>> What do you sell?
>> It's like art supplies and stuff. Like I You do You do like like what you do, but you give it away and like Well, I just kind of try to get by with it. Do you have it like set up like a store?
>> I used to, but >> you did.
>> No. No. Yeah.
>> Do you take a card?
>> No. No card. Um, unless you leave the number in the card.
>> If you had one thing to say to all the people out there, what would you say?
>> Not everybody is the same. They automatically judge because I'm homeless.
In all reality, I'm not homeless, but I judge to come here.
>> You don't have a house, but this is your home.
>> I have address >> I have a house um not here. I have houses in Georgia and I have a house in Sacramento.
>> Why don't you go to the your houses?
>> It's a little trickier than that cuz they're divorced mostly. Oh, >> I quit cooking houses about five years ago, six years ago.
>> So, you probably at one point were really successful.
>> Mhm. I've been on TV.
>> What were you on TV for?
>> Flip this house.
>> Oh, yeah. Could you flip this house? I'm just kidding.
>> We can start heading down if you want.
>> Okay, cool. Hi. Who's this? Hi.
>> That's Ru.
>> That's Ru.
>> Yeah.
>> I've met a few Rs.
What are you eating, Ru?
>> She's a good girl.
>> Hi. All right. It's a good girl. Yeah.
Are you guys all heading down?
>> Well, we are. I don't think we >> Okay. Go for it. What do you think is harder, going down or up?
>> For me, uh, both.
>> You're the one that falls then, huh?
>> I mean, the rope's nice, but you can do it without it. It's just helpful. This is very steep. Come on. Look at you guys go. No wonder you fall.
You got to slow down.
Ryan, you want me to put that chair back? You want me to do that?
>> No, I got it. I'll take care of it.
>> Okay, cool.
>> Thank you.
>> No, you're welcome, dude. I'm really glad I came up and got to meet you, man.
>> I'm really sorry. They're kicking you guys out of here. This seems like a pretty cool little place.
>> Yeah, we like it.
>> Did you get a burger, Junior? Is that Junior in there?
>> Yeah, that's Junior.
>> Here's a hot burger, dude. What's the uh like craziest thing you've seen happen living up here?
>> I think one of the craziest things is how much the truck drivers aimed at us.
>> Really?
>> I've been hit.
>> You've been hit?
>> Yeah. The driver wait till he got his cab pass me and then swung over the line and I got hit by this much back end of his trailer.
>> Holy crap.
>> Yeah.
>> And then James when he got hit.
>> Yeah. And then James got hit but he got hit and killed.
>> Oh gosh. Yeah, that that was the fatality one that was up there.
>> Well, that's the stuff that makes them want to shut this down.
>> They don't realize that we're allowed to take our bikes. A lot of people notice that all bikes bicycles must exit.
>> Yeah.
>> Signed on Vista exit.
>> Oh, there's one on on the Vista exit.
>> So, it is okay for bikes to ride there.
>> Yeah.
