Buying Sleds for CHEAP in 2026

[00:00:00]That's a lot of sleds, boys. Let's get this sled unloaded and then we can take a break and go look at some suds.

[00:00:26]Well, it was a good winter, but the shop could really use some work now. We got some parts coming over from our friends I pinned. I still want to get on the HCR for this year. Sean's holding on to those parts right now for me, but I'm pretty sure our pinned running boards are in for this thing now. Once we get our hands on those, I'll do an install on this machine because I already have the pin gussets sitting on there. We did those earlier in the season, but uh we didn't get the running boards installed.

[00:00:47]So, we're going to put the running boards on the HCR yet. Oh, yeah. We still got some install to do on this machine. And now that it's seen a season on the snow, let the modifications begin.

[00:01:04]I was over at Sled Parlor there though uh this weekend and uh we picked up some parts for our uh XLT project that we're working on right now. So, we'll be putting this thing together here very soon. They had pretty much everything we needed there. We have some new old stock Kimpex gold shocks that we're going to throw in because the Fox ones on board there are shot. Got some nice new old stock for this thing.

[00:01:29]Oh, only gold's good enough for this thing. This thing's the best. And then they also have this uh like intake. It's like an intake cover which came with the foam that we needed cuz it's all peeling out of there. So, we got that crack cover and then they had a windshield.

[00:01:44]So, we got the windshield uh snow flap.

[00:01:46]We got the snow flap for it. And there's some more goodies on the way, too. We're going to be putting in the Kim the old stock Kimpex gold shocks on this thing though uh when we get around to it here when all the other parts come in. And the Fox shocks on this thing. They are rebuildable. And I would rebuild them, too, if Fox will sell me the parts. It's specialized tools that you just can't make. But if I get my hands on one, I might become a shock rebuild guy. For this thing here, though, I picked up a new compression tester just the other day for this thing or for the not for this thing specifically, but for the shop. I got a Midivac or a Mighty Vac, whatever you want to call it. And we're going to put this thing up against my It is a cheap compression tester and see if uh see if that's been what's giving me some weird numbers cuz I'm not going to lie, this is a cheap one. And I finally decided to spend money on a little bit of a better better build one. A way better build one cuz over the last little bit that one's been given me some weird numbers. So we're going to try out the Midivvac the Mighty Vac against a Chinese just like an Amazon compression tester. We're not going to be working on this thing here today. But I do want to take a minute. I want to test out the compression on this triple because we had tested it out a few weeks ago or whatever whenever I did the last video on this thing and I was getting a few numbers that might have been a little low. They weren't too bad, but like they were a little on the word side. So, I'm going to open up the hood. I'm going to pop out the plugs and I'm going to see if we need to do a top end rebuild on this thing or not. Maybe we'll do a refresh on it. If anything is like below that 110 range.

[00:03:16]Uh yeah, if anything's below 110, then we'll do a refresh on it.

[00:03:27]Oh, hell yeah. This is the tester you need. Well, this is way nicer than the one I've been rocking.

[00:03:34]All right, we got our 1993 Polaris XLT 580 triple and we're going to be putting up a Chinese compression tester versus a Midivac or a Mighty Vac. See what the difference is. Okay, we got throttle full open. Let's see what the cheap Chinese tester brings us back.

[00:04:06]We're going to give each one 10. Give it a fair chance. So, in this hole, we have about 105 lbs. Okay. Now, we're going to hook up the Minivac to the same hole and see what we get. And we'll give it another 10 poles.

[00:04:22]Okay. On that one, we got like 118.

[00:04:24]Let's do the middle cylinder and see what we get.

[00:04:28]So, our cheap compression tester gives us uh 115 lbs.

[00:04:34]And with the Midi back, we have 120.

[00:04:36]Last hole, we're doing the mag side with the uh the cheap compression tester.

[00:04:42]On that one, we got 115 lbs. And the Minivac.

[00:04:47]And with the Minivac, we got 120 lb. So, there you go. 5 lb difference between these two. 112. What was this one again?

[00:05:00]Okay. Well, anything Oh, here we go.

[00:05:03]Ideal range is 115 to 130. So, we're we're considered a strong running engine on this thing. Okay. We don't need to do a top end on it. Look at that. Okay. No top end required. Nice. I've been wanting to get like a a better uh gauge for quite a while cuz my other one's been giving me a few wonky readings and it looks like it's like 5 lbs off, which it's actually it's pretty close for a cheap gauge, but I'm going with this one. Okay, that's not that bad. I thought I was going to see like a 10 lb plus difference on this thing, but uh this engine's still got some life left in her. Quite a bit of life left in her.

[00:05:38]So, no sense in opening up the top end on this one.

[00:05:43]Not yet. I was just looking for an excuse to try out my new compression tester. I feel like my other one's been giving me wonky readings, but not as wonky as I maybe thought it would have been.

[00:05:55]Yeah, we're not actually working on this thing today, but I I do have a bunch of other parts on order for this thing and they should be in right away and we can hop back on it and we can we can finish this thing up and we can make her backount reertified, send her out again if we need to. So, yeah, just a couple other parts for this thing, but I think I pretty much have everything for it now. It's a nice lead. This was our $400 sled that we picked up from a dealer, from a dude who didn't want to pay the repair bill on it. So, uh, we picked it up for super cheap, and now we own it.

[00:06:22]Got her running again. Put no money into it, and, uh, we're going to fix her up.

[00:06:26]Well, since we're on shop update video mode, let's go and let's review all the, uh, shop projects we got going on right now. This one behind me here is the Summit Mach Z, the build I got for 250 bucks. And, uh, you may notice it's just a chassis. I picked up that sled for $250 and I got it as a package deal with this one. This one I paid a little more for. Um, but I paid really not a lot for these sleds cuz the guy was moving. So, he was trying to get them out of his property and he wanted to do it for cheap. So, for this one, I paid 250 bucks. This M7 back here, I paid a little more for that one, but they came from the same place. I paid a,000 for that one. You guys have been asking about this one. And uh okay, let let's do a short story here and buckle up cuz this is the last time that I'm going to talk about this thing for a long time.

[00:07:14]Short story is that I stripped this thing right down to the bones for repair and restore and I found a bunch of other stuff that was wrong with it in the process like you always do. But it wasn't like maybe a few weeks after that I got this thing completely stripped down, put out on the workbench, put into boxes, all that stuff that I found out that we're moving. So this thing ended up coming out here just in boxes. And if I knew I would have been moving for sure, I definitely never would have started that big of a project uh that soon into like having to just box it all up and then just having to move it all out here. I hope I still have all the the parts. It looks like I do. With this thing though, I'm going to go full dumb guy build on it. And I get people asking me about it quite a bit and uh fair rightfully so. Fair question. But today is going to be the last day that I'm going to even bring that thing up for a long time because it's moving into BTS build and you're not going to see it for a while now. But what you will see is this sled that came with it. These two sleds came from the same place. This is the M7 mountain mod build. Long story short with this thing is that it needs a diamond drive and it needs to be from an '05 06 M7 because that's the only one that'll bolt up. Um there's like F7 diamond drives and stuff like that, like the Firecat ones, but uh the gearing ratio is going to be different in those.

[00:08:35]So, I'm going to put up the part number on the screen of the diamond drive I need. I haven't done much shopping for it, but I'm thinking what you guys have kind of been putting your feedback in this thing. I think we got to find a gear case for it. Cuz as soon as we find a gear case for it, it'll move. It's either that or I need every single internal piece of that thing. And I don't think I'm going to find it. So, I am looking for a gear case for this thing, a diamond drive. Uh if you have one, head over to Facebook and send me a message on Facebook if you have one. [00:09:07]But it's a budget build, so keep that in mind. That's not the only part I'm looking for this thing, though. I'm looking for like a bumper and left and right skid plates and a bunch of other stuff. I don't really know what that is, but when we get back onto this thing, I'm going to find out. Let's Let's get it running first and then we can figure out what else we need for it. Want to dig this thing out here back the the Super Jet. Oh yeah, I can't wait to take this thing out. This thing probably needs a battery and a carb clean. It was getting a little bit a little bit tough to start last year. I bet you jet ski guys knows what the inside of this smells like.

[00:10:41]Man, I can't wait to take this thing back out. And uh it is something that kind of scratches that summer itch if you're a sledder.

[00:11:05]That did happen my first ride with this thing and then I had to replace the CDI and swim it back. I'm still like pretty new to the jet ski stuff and uh I think I have to learn how to do a little bit of fiberglass work for myself, but man, this is this is the most fun I've had doing something new in a while. And then we got the 1971 Sku Alpine sitting back here. This is the one with the single ski up front, but the dual track in the back. And this thing starts and runs.

[00:11:35]And all we need for it is a new windshield. Like this thing's fine.

[00:11:38]There's There's nothing wrong with that thing. And that thing actually works great.

[00:11:46]Uh every time I go to touch this to turn on the headlight, I get electrocuted.

[00:11:51]This side though, I picked up for free.

[00:11:53]I didn't pay anything for that one. And then the 86 phaser that I bought and then modded and put that giant skid in it and some better skis and uh I don't know, a couple other things. I think it was 400 for this one. I forgot if this one was 4 or 500. Otherwise, I'm going to get some signage and some other stuff hung up in here today. I kind of figured out over the course of the winter where I do most my shooting. And so, I'd like to set up my set just a little bit better at least. I took on this place like right in the fall. I just had to get this place like bolted up for winter and there's still a lot of holes. But now I know where my kind of set area is and I'm getting really sick of looking at this big plain white wall and a whole workbench full of crap. Yeah, that whole wall and everything really sucks. But I've got like a whole bunch of signage and everything and stuff that we need to put up.

[00:13:14]And if there isn't enough projects on the go already, I already picked up the next one. And I know we just picked up that really minty Polaris for rebuild and restore. But this one is not that.

[00:13:24]This This one is bad. This one might be the worst thing we've ever boughten. And I just drug it off the back of the truck earlier today. Like, no kidding. This thing has been sitting on the back of the pickup truck for the last 2 weeks just hanging out on the deck. And I love buying my sleds sight unseen. And that's what I did here with this one. I paid almost nothing for this 01 mountain cat.

[00:13:45]So this is the first time I've spent any amount of time looking at this thing.

[00:13:49]Whatever. So I'm just hanging out and open up some covers. And there's no primary clutch for carburetors or hood. But at least that's obvious, right, Tommy? So, it's missing a lot of parts. And uh the the crank isn't seized.

[00:14:09]And uh hopefully the pistons aren't either. I mean, otherwise the tunnel and the seat, the snow flap, even the tub, a lot of that stuff is otherwise actually in pretty good shape.

[00:14:21]I bought this one as a quote unquote parts unit. Yeah, we'll see about that, buddy. I mean, the boys have been robbing parts off this thing for pretty long time. Oh, there's there's the shock. No muffler.

[00:14:34]Look at that. Look how hot that part got. That sled we paid $150 for as a parts unit. I'll have to do the outro outside here. It's such a nice day. I think that covers not not all the stuff, but it does cover most of the stuff.

[00:14:44]Like I didn't even I didn't even touch on the Black Pearl back here, but we just did a video on that one. So, should be all satisfied there for a little bit.
