[00:00:01]Good morning, Lisa at Inner Masterpiece Wellness Studio. And I thought, let's do something a little different today. You know, sometimes, I don't know about you, but sometimes I do my best thinking as I'm walking around or if I'm going for a hike or going for a walk. And so, I thought I'll just take you along and let's just walk around the property. And um I want to talk a little bit about starting this wellness business. And you know, if you're starting one or if you're thinking about starting a business um in retirement or even before, a lot of the steps are are pretty similar. Uh doesn't really matter what age you are. Uh my expectation for my business is it would take me it's going to take me about a year really to build clientele, build a following. Um because especially in the wellness space, right, we're we're we're talking about a very um you have to develop trust and you have to develop a relationship with people for them to understand who you are. And even though there are a lot of us in the wellness space, we are all different.

[00:01:12]and we come from a different background and we have different specialties and um and I think we we we all work together in in that way because we all bring something unique to the table if you will. Um, so don't worry about that. If you're starting a business and you think, "Oh, well, think about think about things like where there are a lot of people in that, right? How many gas stations do you see? How many car wash washes do you see?" Right? They're all over the place. So, they're competing with one another. And yet, some of them have a very consistent following. And so, there's a reason that you choose that gas station or that um doctor, right? Think about how many dentists there are, how many uh other wellness folks there are, but why do you follow them? Why do you go to them? You go to them because they resonate with you personally, right? And so, so I thought let's just go for a walk. Um uh but this is uh get my shoes on and sometimes again you know thoughts come to me as I'm walking around and uh it's very beneficial being outside. I actually had read a psychology article about the benefits of being outside and what it that does to your brain, right? It it it totally reenters you. Um, but uh as far as my path, I wanted to create a kind of a a wellness studio, but it didn't start out this way. It started out where I just wanted to do yoga here and um and it's beautiful and I've created the space with that in mind. And then um I really wanted a zen garden and so I have a story with that zen garden and this Buddha that was gifted to me but I'll go into that at another time.

[00:03:17]And um but so I did I I created this and but just because you create it all doesn't mean people are going to come, right? Just because you love it doesn't mean everyone else is going to love it, right? So you need to think about that.

[00:03:29]You're still going to have to market.

[00:03:31]You're still going to have to sell yourself. you're going to have to go to um chamber events. That's very important. Um it does really help it. Uh I find that very difficult because I'm not really that social.

[00:03:47]Um I'm a one-on-one kind of person. And so you're going to have to get used to that. You're going to have to get used to the camera, right? I never used to like public speaking and look at me. Now I'm having I'm doing this all the time.

[00:04:00]And so that's a challenge. You have to get used to that. You have to overcome that.

[00:04:04]And um then make sure that you have enough saved.

[00:04:10]Um I started with uh I won't say how much, but I started with just a a benchmark of what I thought I would need to get this business off the ground. And um I am now almost at that level. And so I will not dip into any more. Right? I use some of my 401k because I'm retired and um but I won't dip into it anymore until I start bringing in income.

[00:04:37]So, you really need to have some boundaries for yourself because it's so easy to get, oh, just one more thing, one more thing, one more ad, one more, right? It it it can go on forever, right? So, so really think about how much you want to spend, how much it will cost you, and kind of do a market research to see, is it viable? Is this something that can be sustained where I am, and how will I compete? How will I be different? How do I separate myself out from everybody else who's in the same space? Um, so those are all a lot of things that you really do need to think about. And you know, for me, some of the things that are separating me out are like my petting zoo, right? So, you're invited when you come to my to my yoga workshops or my uh mindfulness coaching. So, we do I have all of this as well. And so this is very very very therapeutic. It is for me. I take care of everybody. Um it's a lot of work, but it's also extremely therapeutic, right?

[00:05:57]We have ducks, we have rabbits, we have our friend the goats.

[00:06:02]Um and so that's all part of my package and that kind of does separate me out.

[00:06:10]Um, not that other people don't have farm animals, but for me in my space, in my area, this really does separate me out. Oh, there goes a crow. Um, so make sure you have enough money. Make sure you understand what your startup costs are. Make sure that you know your competition. Figure out how you're going to separate yourself out from everybody else, right? Because there are a lot of people in this space. And so, make sure you have that down and then get comfortable with talking to the camera. And that's what I'm practicing, right? I'm I'm not comfortable with this, but I've learned that it's a necessity. And so, practice makes perfect, right?

[00:07:06]And after that, once you start marketing, you need to get out there and you need to talk to people. And that's why I started this YouTube channel because I wanted to be consistent and I wanted to share the good, the bad, the ugly of everything.

[00:07:22]This is not easy. And um but it's a dream. And in order to make it happen, you know, I have a lot of support. I have a husband who supports me. And um that's very important.

[00:07:36]and then just trying to figure out where you fit in that makes you unique. All right, so that's about all I'm going to talk about today. And uh leave me a note in the comment.
