This video illustrates how supply chain disruptions, such as customs delays and shipping failures, can significantly impact product launches and customer satisfaction, even when all other aspects of a project are successful. The creators of Short Circuit 40th anniversary sneakers experienced a major setback when their shipment was stuck in customs for over a week, forcing them to offer online discounts and manage disappointed customers at the convention.

FedEX Ruined Our Shoe Company!
Added:When we left for Atoria, Oregon, our biggest product launch was sitting in a FedEx warehouse. The short circuit 40th anniversary convention had already started. And every few minutes, fans would ask us the same question. Where are the shoes?
>> Wish the shoes were here.
>> The problem was, we had no idea. FedEx said they were finally moving. But with only 2 days left in the event, there was still one question nobody could answer.
But they get here in time.
You noticed I had the box and one hand for my soda.
Where are the shoes? They're supposed to be here for the convention. They're still in transit here. Luckily, yesterday we were able to get on the phone with somebody and finally talked to somebody and complained to a little bit of higherups. I hate to I had to pull a Karen, but we're there. They assured me it was going to be here by noon. Sometimes these things arrive earlier with FedEx. I'm not holding up no hope whatsoever. I'm actually really pissed off about it cuz our factory Kenley uh he did an amazing job. Busted his with his crew in China to get the shoes to this convention and then FedEx up. So, for now, we have an amazing setup. We have our shirts, we have jackets, we have sneaker heads. We do have some Goon shoes we're going to sell. Um, but the shoes aren't here and it's all FedEx's fault.
>> Who's Johnny? Listen, we all know who the Johnny is. Song's going to drive you nuts by the end of the weekend. He is alive.
But if I hear that goddamn song one more time, I'm going disassemble everything on that stereo.
>> No disassemble.
>> No disassemble.
Our shoes and our jackets were stuck in clearance.
>> So, we have we haven't been able to get them. We We do have the t-shirts, a few of the balls, and then some of these shoes right here. You can order it right online and they will ship to you online.
>> Yep. They're right on the website right now. But um the shoes, we're offering a discount right now. Even though the shoes are supposed to be here, they're not here today. Um you can get a discount if you do order the shoes and that's only through this weekend. Hey everybody, we are here at the short circuit 40th anniversary celebration as we like to say. We're here here with the legendary, the iconic Glenn. Glenn, tell everybody how you were involved with this amazing production and this amazing piece of cinematic history.
>> Well, my brother Brent Maddock, who's older than me, he wrote the script for Short Circuit and Short Circuit, too.
I'm good friends with Steve Wilson, who's here, who's the co-writer.
>> He's written some great stuff like Tremors.
>> Yes. Wild Wild West and Heart and Souls and >> So, he's no stranger to Oh my god, that's a great one, too. Yeah. I mean, 40 years and there's never been something like this ever. So, >> right. And we've never had any merchandise. There's never been any toys. And so to see this stuff for the first time, like this wonderful t-shirt I'm wearing.
>> I wonder who made that.
>> Which you can buy here.
>> What is your brother up to these days?
>> He's working in Santa Monica. They're writing new ideas. They're hoping to do some sort of new short circuit. So hopefully like you know uh Gary and everybody is seeing this and there there's a little bit more like hey maybe a short circuit 3 is down the pipe. You know what I mean?
>> Exactly. This is what happened with Tremors which they also created. They started doing fanfest for that and Universal Studios who owned the right to Tremors saw how much interest there was still in this franchise.
>> Sometimes you got to kick them in the butt.
>> They're like, "Oh wow, maybe we should make more movies because people still love this stuff."
>> No, we have the t-shirts here in stock.
You have the t-shirts?
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> And this is the jackets online.
>> The jackets are pre-ordered.
>> And the shoes were supposed to be here, but they're stuck in customs. The jackets and the shoes are literally stuck in Oakland, California. Shoes were only here to display, but they were stuck in customs right now. Stuck in customs. Supposed to be here, but they were stuck in customs. FedEx has had them for over a week. We got a notice that was stuck in customs on SA Saturday of last week. Yeah, they're supposed to be here, but they're stuck in customs in Oakland right now.
>> FedEx. Every day it's just been stuck there in Oakland. We've been arguing with them for a week to get it over here. So then yesterday I literally called I'm like, "Listen, this is a Sony event, blah blah blah blah. I need these freaking shoes." And they're like, "All right, well," so then this morning they updated the tracking. But if you want the shoes, you can order right online, bolers.com, and this is the code that will get you a discount.
>> Wish the shoes were here. That sucks, >> but it is what it is.
Sounds like hot cakes.
>> This year at San Diego, we're going to have a big booth that's going to be right near the Gundam booth. So, yeah.
Yeah, you can't you can't miss those.
And then New York, we have um Jim Henson. We have the license with them.
>> We're doing a big Fraggle Rock installation. So, they're bringing all the puppets from Fraggle Rock, the Junior Gourd and all the other ones.
They're going to have them so you can come up and look at them.
>> Yep. Yep. Do you say shoes or trainers?
>> Shoes.
>> Oh, see we have a lot of people from England that always say trainers and that's how I always know that >> Oh, it depends what you're talking like.
So like they're trainers to me.
>> Okay, I can see that cuz you're training in them. That's that >> you say sneakers.
>> Yeah, we see sneakers or shoes. But I always like It's funny when I'm talking online to people and they're like, "Oh, the trainers are great." I'm like, "You're from England, aren't you?" Like, "Yeah, check it out."
>> Uh, yeah. I think that looks that looks good, right?
>> And if you're here all weekend, if you try it on and it still feels a little small, we can exchange it. So, thank you.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh-huh.
>> Blow me.
>> Get the hair. Got to get the hair flowing.
>> Dramatic dramatic lighting.
>> He was right. They all came to us for >> Oh, got it.
>> Yeah. I mean, I think any new people coming or going there first cuz they see the line there, but I mean like Matt said, like those people came in dark.
It sucks cuz like you want to have the jackets, you want to have all the other stuff here cuz you know they buy sneaker head.
We were lucky to get those time. So long my balls. My balls are gone. My wife says the same thing.
>> I'm a nonzipper. I'll never zip in the middle.
>> No, that works. No, that looks good.
>> Oh my god.
>> I think you should buy it.
>> Yeah, it's available on the site right now. Oh, >> it is.
>> Yep.
>> Okay, >> should be good.
>> Oh, awesome. Thank you so much. That's awesome. I'll be matching.
>> Matching match.
>> Thank you.
>> Thank you very much.
>> Thank you.
>> Um, you can get more.
>> Yeah, I plug myself all day long.
That's what SHE SAID.
>> OH MY GOD, I LOVE YOU.
>> HEY EVERYBODY, we are here at the further celebration of Short Circuit 40th anniversary. You have a wide eclectic, you know, film history like Ninja Turtles 3. True. You know, I mean, what what other ones that >> did the Energizer Bunny for 10 years. I still have >> kept on going, right?
>> Yeah. Well, he does, but then now it's CGI. So, what the hell are you a real one? You got to have a practical body.
>> Well, I have them and >> really Oh my god, that's amazing.
>> Yeah, I'll bring it to the next one of these.
>> Yeah, that's commercial history right there.
>> Yes, it is.
>> Until recently when I started doing more research about everybody that was on the cast and crew, I didn't know that those were puppeteered at all. I didn't know that there was like a half body chassis.
>> That's the idea.
>> I thought it was just one solid piece like the one we're see rocking around here today.
>> I get a lot of credit for creating Johnny 5, but I didn't create Johnny 5.
Brett Maddock and SS Wilson created the character >> and and and it was all part of a a chain that I got to be able to guide to realize the the form and function that it would be and work with incredible people like Philip Harrison and Sid me.
I mean the fans are the ones who have kept this the Johnny 5 alive really and um I'm I'm very grateful to him.
>> Watch the robot grab you by the balls.
>> Disassemble.
Wouldn't you like to be a pepperoni?
>> I would.
>> My legs are sore, but I couldn't be happier cuz this is awesome. Uh, we literally got to meet Gary Foster and a lot of the people that were the cast and the crew that actually helped make Johnny 5 and make the movie itself. Um, met one of the other guys. I think his name is Bob and he worked with Midh Sid me I think that's his name and he's a concept artist that worked on Bladeunner and all this other stuff. So like it's a it's been a fun fun day so far and we got another day tomorrow too. So and before you ask where are the shoes?
They're not here. FedEx. Where are they?
>> You want to go to your car and drop this off real quick and then we can go to the museum.
>> $75.
>> 45. That one's 45. I'd rather have the customer.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. Let's show >> here. Let me buy this first.
>> No. Show the difference. All right.
People don't appreciate this.
>> Well, they don't.
>> So, that's 45. And then you add the embroidery cuz the embroidery is >> And this is a better material up here, too.
>> Yeah. 52 45.
>> So, as you can see, Atoria really does have a long lineage of filming movies. I mean, Into the Wild, I had no idea. You know, I I'm guessing if Point Break is down there, they must have filmed it or did something here, which is crazy to think of. I mean, Ninja Turtles 3, that's all around here. Obviously, kindergarten cop. We were just at the school yesterday.
Look at this. Look at this concept sketch right here. Or like the story board. That's the stuff I like to see.
Hey guys, we are here at the Heritage Museum in Atoria, you Historia, Utah.
Uh, wow. Oregon. Sorry, I am killing this. I was Oregon. Listen, I want you on camera helping me. Hey guys. Hey guys, this is Tom. We're here. Hey, >> hey guys. This is Tom. We are here at the historic meet. I can't even. I'm done.
>> Hey Tom.
>> Hey. What's your name?
>> MJ from Oregon. Oregon, not to be confused with Utah, right?
>> Not to be confused with anywhere else in the world.
>> Where are we right now?
>> You are in Atoria in the historic museum that right now for the next year has this incredible actual movie gold. Johnny 5. I'm in awe.
>> And why was he gold? Do you remember that?
>> No, I don't. Can you tell me?
>> He was the first robotic citizen from the immigration. Like he won it at the end of the movie. They let him become a real person.
>> Totally awesome.
>> Yes. So, take it from us. This is awesome. We're in the right state with the right people and at the right convention.
>> Look at that. Look at that, guys. I want to rip my pants >> again.
Every trip, huh?
>> Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Cold night on the prairie. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Hey. Hey.
Godamn.
Oh, I fit like a glove. And we got that bad boy. It says it's going to be here Monday. Yeah.
>> Two days after the convention's over. So FedEx Not cool.
>> Today is Monday, June 15th.
>> A week later.
>> These just arrived.
Let's get them open. Let's have a look at these.
>> So, these are supposed to arrive on June 7th. They arrived on June 15th.
>> Guaranteed by FedEx. They would be delivered no later than noon on that Saturday.
And guess what?
>> We got some peewes in there. Got some peewes. Got some extra peewes.
>> There they are. Got some Toros in.
See, we got to take a look.
>> Look at that.
>> Oh, beautiful.
>> See the Let's see the heel. Johnny Five.
>> Number five.
>> What about the other one?
>> Fantastic. Fantastic five. My favorite superhero.
>> No.
>> We got the Longhorns.
>> Oh, look at that.
Look at that. You don't have a keychain on it. Oh, the keychain should be in there. Yeah, there's a key chain.
>> There it is. Johnny 5.
>> Only took uh two weeks, right?
>> Yeah. Little little bit later than normal. And we got some premium metallic silver metallic metallic laces that also go on there. These are gorgeous.
>> Well, they made it finally.
