In religious organizations, leadership succession plans can become complicated when family dynamics and personal relationships intersect with organizational governance, as demonstrated by the Daystar Television Network case where Joni Lamb's 2023 marriage to Doug Weiss and her son Jonathan Lamb's claims of mishandling abuse allegations created internal conflicts that challenged the established leadership structure.

Jonathan Under Pressure After Joni Lamb’s Death Shakes DaystarAdded:
If Dayar does the right thing, Arnold Torres and Tom Calendarer do have the authority if they want to to reinstate Jonathan Lamb. They could do that.
Financially, that makes a lot of sense because what they could then say is, "Hey, we're bringing Jonathan back.
go to the the 30 plus I the last count I heard was 30 programmers that had left the network they could go back to those programmers and say hey we brought Jonathan back he's now in charge we want to welcome you back to Bayar that's financially that makes the most sense and I think Arnold Torres being the chief financial officer cares deeply about that he also cares about Marcus Lamb's vision for the future. And there was a memo that was leaked that was put out in 2021 and it was from Marcus Lamb and it specifically had the listing of succession. He said that if Marcus and Joanie were gone that he wanted Jonathan to be in charge. Now >> that why are Jonathan and Susie doing this? What's the reason for all this?
Well, you know, um the reason is clear.
They did not want someone else coming in and taking their place. But the truth is, you know, Doug didn't take anybody's place, >> right?
>> You know, Marcus had left strict instructions that if anything ever happened to him that I would be president of Dayar. And a lot of people are saying, "Well, you know, um, Marcus intended for Jonathan to be the president." Marcus never intended for Jonathan to be the president while I was alive or while he was alive. He had hoped, and he used this analogy all the time. He said, >> "I um when when your mom and I are gone, it would be my hope that Jonathan could lead with the girls beside him." And he would use the analogy of Moses >> holding up the arms >> with Aaron and her holding up the arms.
and he he wanted the three of them to work together. He said it over and over.
>> Hear that. Yeah.
>> But what happened was um when Doug came into the picture, there was there was something underneath there that I had never seen before. They came >> the truth. If we had simply gone along with the charade, put aside our convictions, read the card, praise my mom's marriage, and continue to not question anything about Pete. We would have had [music] everything that my father had said. I would be the next president after my mother either retired or passed away. That was in writing.
[music] >> Break down the new leadership and then you'll also tell us the position of these people that we are not able to see. What is your thought behind that?
Well, according to what we know, and this was on the official um I don't have the organization chart chart in front of me, but I can tell you this from what we know from the official Dayar uh statement about Joany's death. She formed an executive leadership team before she passed away.
Now, everybody that's in a position of leadership, um, so Rachel has a position, Joshua Brown has a position, um, JW, uh, Jonathan Weiss has a position there, and then Arnold Torres is the CFO. He's the chief financial officer, and he's, as far as the board of directors are concerned, he's he's one of two. The other person is Tom Calendarer, and he's the lawyer for Dayar. So there's I see those four and I could also see Tom Kalan executive leadership team. Tom has been a very loyal and faithful work employee to day for many many many years. I could honestly see him being a part co-founder and longtime president of Dayar [music] Television Network played a major role in building the ministry into one of the world's largest Christian television networks [music] alongside her husband Marcus Lamb. After his death in 2021, she became the public leader of Dayar and continued guiding [music] its global outreach. Following her death in May 2026 at age 65, attention turned [music] to long-standing tensions within the Lamb family and the ministry. Reports and public statements pointed to disputes over leadership, internal disagreements, and allegations involving the handling of sensitive issues within the extended family. One major controversy came from her son Jonathan Lamb and his wife Susie Lamb who claimed that abuse related allegations were not properly addressed by ministry leadership. Their claims led to public division and widespread debate across Christian media and online platforms. Further criticism followed Joanie Lamb's 2023 marriage to Doug Weiss with some questioning its timing and impact on Dayar leadership. Around the same time, Jonathan and Susie reportedly lost ministry roles, increasing speculation about internal conflict. After her passing, Susie Lamb also stated that some family members were not informed in time to say goodbye, adding to public discussion about strained relationships within the family. Despite the controversies, supporters continued to honor Joanie Lamb's legacy, recognizing her decades of influence in Christian broadcasting and her role in expanding Dayar into a global network.
