[00:00:05]Recently Taiwanese author Yang Shuangzi won the 2026 International Booker Prize for the novel Taiwan Travelogue. Now the book was originally written in Mandarin Chinese and later translated into English by Lin King. Now what makes this achievement historic is that it has become the first Mandarin Chinese book ever to win the International Booker Prize. The novel is set in Japanese-occupied Taiwan in 1928 and explores themes of love, food, identity, and colonialism through the evolving relationship between [music] a Japanese writer and a Taiwanese woman.
