CSEC Social Studies - January 2026 paper 2 - Bootcamp 2026Added:
[music] [music] [music] >> Hi all. In today's video, we are going to look at the January 2026 paper two social studies. So this is the paper I was done earlier this year.
So it starts off with the first question. Define the term juvenile delinquency.
Our answer is Juvenile delinquency refers to illegal or antisocial behavior committed by a young person who is below the legal adult age. This may include acts such as stealing, fighting, vandalism, drug abuse, truancy, or gang involvement.
Our next question is outline two ways in which substance abuse can affect the family.
Our answer is One way substance abuse can affect the family is by causing financial problems. Money that should be used for food, rent, bills, school supplies, or medical care may be spent on drugs or alcohol. This can create hardship and stress for the entire family.
Another way substance abuse can affect the family is by creating conflict and emotional distress. A person who abuses substances may become aggressive, irresponsible, or withdrawn, which can lead to arguments, fear, neglect of children, and breakdown in family relationships.
Our next question is suggest two practical actions that a family support group can take to assist members to assist family member families with members who suffer from substance abuse, and explain how each action suggested likely to have a positive impact on a family with members who suffer from substance abuse.
So, the first part of the question for this one is a family support group can organize can counseling sessions for both the person abusing substances and the relatives affected by the problem.
Our next action is a family support group can refer the family to rehabilitation centers, health clinics, or social workers that specialize in substance abuse treatment.
The part where we need to explain how each action is um successful or likely to be positive is counseling is likely to have a positive impact because it gives family members a safe a safe place to discuss their feelings, understand the causes of substance abuse, and learn better ways to cope with stress and conflict. It can also help the person abusing substances recognize the harm being caused and encourage them to change their behavior.
Referring the family to rehabilitation centers or trained professionals is likely to help because the person suffering from substance abuse can receive proper treatment, medical support, and guidance.
As the person begins to recover, the family may experience conflict less conflict, improve relationships, and greater stability in the home.
Next question in exam number two, so society and governance. The first question is define the term formal group.
We have a formal group is an organized group that is created for a specific purpose and has clearly stated rules, roles, responsibilities, and leadership.
Examples include a school, church, company, police club, sorry, police service, club, or government department.
Our next question, state two characteristics of formal groups.
We have one characteristic of formal groups is that they have written or clearly understood rules that members are expected to follow.
Another characteristic is that they is that they have a clear leadership structure such as a president, manager, principal, captain, or committee.
Next question, outline one way in which social control can be achieved within a formal group.
We have social control can be achieved within a formal group through the use of rules and sanctions. For example, in a school students are expected to follow the rules. If they break the rules, they may receive detention or suspension.
This encourages members to behave well and maintain order within the society.
Next question, the prime minister of your country has urged religious institutions or churches across the nation to join in their efforts to help address increasing crime among youth.
First part, suggest two actions which a religious institution or church could take to help the increasing crime among youth.
And second part, explain why each action suggested is likely to be successful in addressing increasing crime among the youth.
First part, we have a religious institution can organize youth mentorship programs where responsible adults guide young people and teach them to teach them positive values, discipline, and decision-making skills.
We also have a religious institution can provide after-school activities such as homework clubs, sports, music, skills training, and youth group meetings.
Second part, youth membership is likely to be successful because young people who lack guidance may be influenced by gangs, peer pressure, or negative role models.
A mentor can encourage them to stay in school, avoid crime, and make better choices. This gives emotional This gives youth emotional support and someone responsible to look up to.
Also, after school activities are likely to be successful because they help they keep young people occupied during times when they may otherwise be unsupervised or exposed to negative influences.
Activities such as sports, music, homework help, and skills training can build confidence, discipline, and talents, reducing the likelihood that youths will become involved in criminal behavior.
All next question is question three. We have a bar graph a bar chart.
So, figure one is a bar chart which shows the total immigrant populations for select Caribbean countries at the end of 2024.
Study the chart below. Study the chart and answer the questions that follow.
On our x-axis, we have five countries: Guyana, Jamaica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago. On the y-axis, we have the number of immigrants increased in 200,000.
So, our first question is, name the country with the largest number of immigrants.
The answer would be Jamaica. It has about 13 100,000.
Then we also have the next part which is name the country with fewer than 200 immigrants. We have St. Vincent and the Grenadines is about 100,000.
Next question, outline two benefits that a host country gain from Caribbean immigration.
So, we have one benefit host countries gain is an increase in skilled and semi-skilled labor. Caribbean migrants may work as nurses, teachers, construction workers, domestic workers, business owners, or service workers.
This helps the country to fill labor to fill labor shortages and improve productivity.
Another benefit is that Caribbean immigrants contribute to the economy of the host country. They pay taxes, rent homes, buy goods and services, and may start businesses. This increases economic activity and helps the host country develop.
Next question. The loss of skilled workers through migration can have a negative impact on the development of Caribbean countries. Suggest two actions that the government may take to encourage citizens to remain in the country or the Caribbean region to build their future.
Also, explain why each action suggested is likely to be successful in encouraging Caribbean citizens to remain in the region.
The first part we have is governments can create more job opportunities by investing in industries such as technology, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, and small business development. Also, governments can offer better salaries, training opportunities, scholarships, and career advancement for skilled workers such as nurses, teachers, engineers, and technicians.
Second part. Creating more job opportunities is likely to be successful because many people migrate when they cannot find stable employment at home.
If citizens can earn a living and build a future in their own country, they may feel less pressure to migrate to places such as the United States, Canada, or the or the United Kingdom.
Offering better salaries, training, and career advancement is likely to be successful because skilled workers often leave the Caribbean in search of better pay and professional growth.
If they are given proper wages, promotion opportunities, and access to further training, they may feel valued and choose to remain under region.
Next question is on the region and the great development. So figure two below shows a map of the Caribbean map and the questions that follow.
They want us to label the countries labeled A and B. A this whole thing here is actually two countries split. The right hand side is Dominican Republic, the left hand side is Haiti. So therefore the answer for A is Haiti. And on this side this spot where B is pointing is Suriname.
Next question. B. State two benefits that Caribbean countries can obtain from the development of industries.
We have one benefit is that industries create employment opportunities for citizens. Another benefit is that industries help Caribbean countries become in earn income and foreign exchange through the sale or export of goods and services.
Next question is to outline one way in which a natural hazard could pose a could pose a challenge to development in the Caribbean.
This one we have a natural hazard such as a hurricane or earthquake can damage roads, schools, hospitals, homes, farms and businesses. This slows development because governments must spend large amounts of money on repairs instead of using the money for education, health care, tourism, housing or new industries.
Next question. Suggest two ways in which a company could use information and communication technology to attract more customers thereby increasing the the size of its market.
Explain why each of the following each of the ways suggested in C1 is likely to be successful in attracting more customers thereby increasing the size of the company's market.
The we have for the first part are a company can use social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp to advertise its products and services.
We also have a company can create a website or online store where customers can view products, place orders, and make payments.
The reason that they will be successful, so the second part will be using social media is likely to be successful because many people spend time online daily.
Attractive posts, videos, promotions, and customer reviews can reach people quickly and cheaply, including customers in other communities, islands, or countries. This increases awareness of the business and can lead to more sales.
Creating a website or online store is likely to be successful because customers can shop or get information at any time, even outside normal normal business hours. It also allows the company to reach to reach persons who cannot visit a physical location. This makes buying easier and helps the company expand its markets.
Our next question, the essay section.
The first question in this section is on the individual, family, and society talking about the electoral preparation and functions of government.
Our first question, okay, so it goes, you are asked to make a speech at a youth conference on the topic above. In your speech, define the term constitution.
So, our answer for this section, we have, "Good morning, chairman, teachers, students, and specially invited guests. Today, I will discuss the topic electoral preparation and functions of government. This is an important topic because elections and government affect the daily lives of all citizens.
So, a constitution is a basic is a set of basic laws and principles by which a country is governed. It explains the rights and responsibilities of citizens, the powers of government, and the way in which leaders are chosen and controlled. For example, the constitution of Trinidad and Tobago outlines the role of the Prime Minister, Parliament, and president of the courts.
Sorry.
The president and the courts.
So, when they tell you that it's an essay question, they don't want you to spend too much time or stress yourself doing it because they also let you know that 18 marks are allocated for content and four marks are for organization and development of the essay. So, you're not really getting that many marks for writing it in an essay. The majority of your marks are going towards your content. They just want to make sure that you write it in paragraphs.
That your paragraphs have a particular order. It's organized so you don't write your questions in a disorganized way.
Your answers are in a disorganized way.
You write You define the term constitution first, then you move on to the second one, then the third one. So, you don't mix it up.
They also want to make sure you Well, you use full sentences and standard English.
And that you could have a basic introduction and conclusion. When they say that they want you to write a speech, they don't want you to stress yourself on that too much either. Just a little good morning at the beginning for the introduction is good enough for that.
Our next question is outline one function of government other than providing social services.
We have one function of government other than providing social services is to maintain law and order. Governments do this by creating laws, operating the police service, maintaining courts, and punishing persons who commit crimes.
This is important because citizens need to feel safe in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities.
Our next question describe two in which political parties prepare for elections.
We have political parties prepare for elections in several ways. One way is by selecting suitable candidates to represent them in different constituencies.
These candidates are expected to speak to citizens and understand community problems and convince voters that they are capable of representing their interests. Then another way political parties prepare for elections is by campaigning. They hold public meetings, walk through communities, use social media, advertise on television, and radio, distribute posters or flyers.
During campaigns, political parties explain their plans for areas such as jobs, crime, education, health care, and housing so that voters can decide which party to support.
Our next question is, suggest three strategies a government may use to ensure that it can provide adequate social services for its citizens.
Governments may use several strategies to ensure that citizens receive adequate social services. One strategy is to collect and manage taxes properly. Taxes provide the money needed to pay doctors, nurses, teachers, police officers, social workers, and other public servants. They also help fund hospitals, schools, roads, pensions, grants, and welfare programs. A second strategy is to reduce corruption and wastage in government spending. When public money is stolen or wasted, fewer resources are available for citizens. By carefully monitoring spending and punishing corruption, the government can make sure that funds are used to the people who need them. Use for people who need them.
Then a third strategy is to partner with non-governmental organizations, religious groups, and private businesses. These groups can help provide food, counseling, training, shelters, medical assistance, and educational support. This reduces the pressure on the government and allows more citizens to receive help.
Our next question is explain why two of the strategies suggested are likely to be successful in ensuring the provision of adequate social services for citizens.
We have proper tax collection is likely to be successful because social services require steady funding. If the government collects taxes fairly and consistently, it will have more money to build schools, improve hospitals, provide medication, assist the elderly, and support low-income families.
Reducing corruption and wastage is also likely to be successful because it ensures that public funds are used for their intended purpose. When money is managed honestly, more resources reach citizens. This improves the quality of services and builds public trust in the government.
Our way conclusion is In conclusion, elections allow citizens to choose their leaders. The government is responsible for maintaining order and improving citizens' lives.
Political parties must prepare properly for elections, and governments must manage resources wisely so that all citizens can benefit from adequate social services.
Thank you.
And our next question in this paper is number six.
It is on addressing the effects of climate change in the Caribbean.
Your school has decided to contribute to regional efforts to to raise awareness regarding climate change.
During discussions on the rising surface temperatures in the region, your teacher shared with your class the data in table table one below, which shows the change in temperature every 20 years from 1961 to 2021.
So, we have a table here.
In 1961, it rise by 0.25°C.
In 81, it was 0.50°C.
2001 is 1.25°C and 2021 1.35°C.
As a concerned citizen, you have decided to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper on the topic above. In your letter, define the term climate change.
Okay, let's take a look at what we need to do.
So, we have the editor. I am writing to express concern about the effects of climate change in Caribbean. The data on average temperature changes from 1961 to 2021 clearly shows the temperatures in the region have been increasing over time.
This is a serious issue because the government cuz the Caribbean is made up of small island and coastal states that are highly vulnerable to environmental damage.
Climate change refers to long-term changes in weather patterns and average temperatures mainly caused by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and pollution. These activities increase greenhouse gases in the atmosphere which trap heat and cause global temperatures to rise.
Our next question is to state two conclusions which can be made from the average temperatures based on the data in table one.
So, we have two conclusions can be made from the from the data in table one. Firstly, the average temperature change increased from 0.25°C in in 1961 to 1.35°C in 2021 showing an overall rise in temperature over the period. Secondly, the greatest increase occurred between 1981 and 2001 when the temperature change rose from 0.25°C to 1.25°C.
This suggests that warming became more serious during that period.
Next question is to outline two environmental challenges which may arise in the Caribbean region if there is an increase in average temperatures.
Our answer is one environmental challenge that may arise from increasing average temperatures is the sea level rise. As temperatures increase, ice caps melt and sea water expands. This can lead to coastal erosion, flooding, and destruction of beaches, homes, hotels, and roads in low-lying Caribbean areas.
Another environmental challenge is stronger and more frequent extreme weather events. Higher temperatures can contribute to more intense hurricanes, heavy rainfall, droughts, and flooding.
These events can destroy crops, damage infrastructure, reduce water supplies, and threaten human life.
Next question suggests three actions Caribbean governments can take to increase, sorry, to address the environmental challenges being faced by the region as a result of climate change.
We have Caribbean governments can take several actions to address these environmental challenges. One action is to protect and restore mangrove forests and coral reefs. Mangroves and reefs help protect coastlines from waves, storms, surges, and erosion, while forests help absorb carbon dioxide and reduce flooding.
A second action is to promote renewable energy such as solar, wind, and hydropower.
This would reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and help slow the rate of climate change.
A third action is to improve disaster preparedness and climate resilient infrastructure. Governments can build stronger seawalls, improve drainage systems, enforce safer building codes, and educate citizens on hurricane and flood preparedness.
Our next question is explain why two of reactions suggested are likely to be successful in addressing the environmental challenges being faced by the region as a result of climate change. We have protecting mangrove forests and coral reefs as likely to be successful because natural systems act as barriers against environmental damage. Mangroves reduce the force of waves, forests reduce soil erosion, and coral reefs protect beaches. This can help reduce flooding, coastal erosion, and loss of land.
Promoting renewable energy is also likely to be successful because it addresses one of the main causes of climate change. If Caribbean countries use more solar and wind energy, they will burn less oil and gas. This can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make the region more su- more environmentally sustainable.
In conclusion, climate change is a serious threat to the Caribbean. The temperature data shows that the region is getting warmer, and this can lead to sea level rise, stronger hurricanes, flooding, and damage to natural resources.
Caribbean governments must now act by protecting the environment, using clean energy, and preparing communities for disasters.
Yours faithfully, a concerned citizen.
And that is it for this paper. Thank you all for watching.
