The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that a federal ban on gun ownership for marijuana users was unconstitutionally broad, as it would categorically label millions of Americans who use marijuana (legal in about half the states) as dangerous, violating the Second Amendment; this case was also referenced in Hunter Biden's 2018 conviction for purchasing a gun while addicted to cocaine.

Supreme Court sides with a Texas man who says it’s not a crime for marijuana users to have guns
Added:about the Supreme Court, Morgan, and that is Thursday, they had a they issued a ruling against a broadband of gun ownership for marijuana users.
And uh uh this is the latest in the in the firearm cases that the court has expanded on gun rights.
>> Right. And I mean the this was a unanimous decision. They sided with a Texas man who said that it is not a crime for marijuana users to have guns.
Um justices said that the ban it would have been it would have been a federal ban. It was it was just too broad and would suggest that millions of Americans who now use marijuana regularly because roughly half of states have have allowed it, not on the federal level, but on the state level. Um it would it would suggest that those Americans are categorically and unusually dangerous.
And so I think it was they the issue they had with it that it was it was just too broad to to peg every single marijuana user as someone who who couldn't legally own a gun.
>> Yeah, it was originally meant to keep guns away from dangerous people, but they they were saying and this is what Neil Gorsuch, the Supreme Court justice, wrote. He said that millions of people now use marijuana. It is broadly legal in about half the states that gave widespread use for health purposes. So this is also a case that was used against Hunter Biden.
>> Right.
>> Uh who was convicted in Wilmington, Delaware buying a gun um and while addicted to cocaine in 2018. And he was later pardoned by >> Mhm.
>> his father, of course, the current president, Joe Biden.
>> So this was ruled as uh kind of a violation of the Second Amendment. Uh obviously marijuana still remains illegal on the federal level.
