The Sarong Embarrassment Nobody Warned Me About in MalaysiaAdded:
Hey, what's good IBC?
Hey, listen. Listen. Don't adjust. Don't adjust your cameras. Don't adjust your microphones. You heard that right. That was my inside voice because my wife is back there sleeping somewhere. Hey, we're checking in here in Malaysia for those of you who's not around. But this is what it looks like in Malaysia. This is my Malaysia today. Man, it's Friday.
It is 10:55 in the morning and you hear that? You hear that? Uh there is no sounds of that traffic. It's quiet here. So uh I want to say salamat haraya to all of the Muslim community out there who's celebrating and those who celebrating this uh this this this this month this day.
the city quiet. It's uh it's uh it's piece where everyone has everyone's gone back to uh their kongs uh their families and uh doing the whole thing. So uh shout out to uh the Malaysian the Malaysian community, the Muslim community celebrating Haraya against Salah Haraya.
This m this morning I want to talk about something that uh I haven't shared with you guys in a while and that is you know I've been in this country now for 17 years. years. I've been loving every single minute of it. And while I have worn a sarong for a long time, it hasn't been until the last probably last five or six years where I really come to appreciate it and adopted that song life. That's right, man. This is my song life here in Malaysia. And if you don't know what that what that means, man, do yourself a favor. Do yourself a favor.
Ask somebody around you, man. What is a sarong? You must if you're if you're here in Malaysia, then you already know what it is. If you don't know what know what it is, I won't say shame on you, but man, branch your cultural wings out and explore a little bit. But most Westerners have never put on a song, man. And I feel bad for them for not understanding the freedoms of liberty that it brings. Y'all know what I'm talking about. Y know what I'm talking about. Everyone talks about the AC, the ventilation. I don't really necessarily want to talk about that, but it but it's true. I mean, it's true. It's very breezy. It's very airy. It makes this hot, humid air here in Malaysia all the more tolerable. But some of y'all, some of y'all told me, not some, a bunch of y'all told me, "Hey man, how do you tie your saron? How do you do it?" And some of you guys even said, "Show me how you put it on." And I'm not falling for that one. No, no, no, no, no. I'm not falling for that one. Uh, but I will tell you, I do the typical wrap and I roll it and I roll it down. um a few I think last week or so I wore it to uh my cigar lounge behind to get my cigars and one of the cigar girls there.
Yeah, I'm looking right at you. I'm looking right at you. You know who I'm talking about. They started laughing.
Not laughing, kind of giggling because you know they never seen Mr. Snow wearing this. They see me in my basically my business attire. But when I asked for her honest opinion cuz I saw I saw she snapped a picture. I saw you snapped that picture. You took a picture and I I want that photo. She snapped a picture and I said, "Hey, why you know what's why you snapped the picture? Why are you laughing?" She said, "Ah, Mr. Snow, you're you're um you're wearing it wrong."
I mean, what do you mean I'm wearing it wrong? I have a whole community out here, you guys, telling me how to wear my wrong properly.
So uh uh I said in all honesty, no tell me tell me how am I supposed to wear it? I guess my song was coming down and it was like not wasn't coming out straight. So if this is my hips right here, it was coming down. It was kind of ballooning out like this. And uh she didn't say what she thought it looked like. She just said I was wearing it wrong. So, I went into the bathroom and I tied it better. She said, "Ah, yes, that's better. Better." Um, then I went outside to get my coffee and I came back to my poolside to smoke my cigar.
And then about a week later, I went back I went back in to um with my cousin, took another cigar, renting the song.
And then the other girl, the other girl, and you know who you are. I'm not going to dime you out, but you know who you are.
She laughed like like straight up laughed to my face. Mr. Snow, what are you doing? What do you mean what I'm doing? I'm wearing I'm wearing my saron.
This is my sarong life. Says, no, no, no. She said it in Bahasa.
She said it in Bahasa Malayu. If you know what I'm going to say it in English. I want you guys, if you know what the phrase in Bahasa is, Malay is, type it in the chat so I remember. I I I when she spoke it, of course, I don't know what she said. Then he answer for the translation, "That girl's got no shame."
Listen, man. Y'all know that I have this bad leg. You know, this bad leg down here. Y'all know about that, right? Uh anyway, uh disability from the military.
Um so, I got this bad leg and and because of that, it balloons up. It gets it gets swollen and I have to get it controlled with a uh with a compression sock.
Listen, I'm 55 years old. I'm not I think I'm not getting any younger, but I feel like I'm young still. But this damn this leg I'm not going to say this damn leg. This leg of mine, it has a thing I'm I'm working through. I'm trying to figure out what the doctors how to get it solved and fixed completely. But it swells up. So, I wear a compression sock. So, what do you think that she called me? What do you think she said? H I'm wearing a saron. I'm thinking I'm wearing a I'm not wearing this one. I'm wearing a different one.
And I'm wearing a compression sock in this cigar lounge. We're not staying. We're just going to get one to take away.
But that girl there, um, young staff, younger staff. She laughed and she said, "Mr. Snow," and again, I'm gonna say it in English. You guys tell me what that is in in in Malay.
She says to me, "You look like a pregnant woman in a in the in the in the in the hospital."
Now, y'all listen, some of y'all jump in like these comments and you dy me up for not being able to speak. Uh, my my Malay is terrible. Somebody said I should I should I should go back somewhere. Uh, someone said that, "Dude, you've been for so long. You should be ashamed of yourself for your Malay sounding so terrible. Okay, guys. Listen. Full full disclosure. I agree. I've been here for a long time. I haven't picked up the language properly yet. That's all. 99% is on me. But I'm going to leave 1% on you guys because man, y'all welcome me here for so many years that when I try to speak some bahasa malu some Malay and you see that I'm I'm destroying it.
You just turn around and take your time to to understand me in English and you speak English back to me. So any Americans coming to Malaysia concerned about the language, man, there is no language barrier. The Malaysian people The Malaysian people are the most multilingual people I've ever I've ever come across on the planet. So they speak multiple languages and for no particular reason at all other than that's just what they do. They speak Bahasa, Malayalu, Malay, Chinese, uh, Mandarin, uh, Hawin also whatever the other languages are in the the Chinese dialect, um, Tamill and a bunch of other, uh, a bunch of other languages to include English. I hear people speaking French, some and some German. So the Malaysian in terms of the Malaysians in terms of their their their mother tongue and their nonmother tongue, they're multilingual. Whereas in we in the west, we speak one language.
But for me, I do ablah. I do aba ablah little fr. I do speak a little a little French. Anyway, what she said to me is this, guys, you look like a pregnant woman in the hospital. put in the chat in Malay what that term is and I am usually not usually not I usually have no shame but man I am quite proud of the the shape that I'm in as a 50 year old as a 55y old man I know I'm a little bit heavy but I feel pretty secure in my masculinity and I'm comfortable in my own skin, but man, she called me a pregnant woman. I think that's I'm rocking my kind pelot right here and I guess I was rocking it wrong because it was flaring out at the bottom. Um, and I made the excuse that listen, my uh my sarong is flaring. It's like a I'm I'm not a I'm a I'm a 6'2, 300B black man.
So, um, but I did recognize that. Yeah, man. And I was kind of tying it not quite where it comes straight down. And I think I worked that out. I'm going to show you that shot later on. I just wanted to come on this my on this channel right here. And I wanted I'm not saying their names. I'm not saying the cigar lounge name either, but they know who they are.
So this is just this made exactly for them.
You know who you are. I appreciate you.
Thank you very much for putting me on blast, helping me to realize that my kind pelat game, my strong game needs an upgrade. I'll work towards that. Uh, as for the bahasa balu, hey man, if I didn't say before, I'm 55 years old. You know the old dog new trick hoot syndrome and ITKS.
Those who know knowkis. If you don't know what ikis is, watch this video coming up next. All right, guys. And good luck to you.
