Work can be categorized into three types: a job is simply a means to pay bills with no deeper meaning, a career combines income with personal fulfillment and alignment with interests and values, and a calling represents work that is one's primary passion and source of meaning. Each type serves different life stages and needs, and individuals should choose the one that best matches their current situation without feeling guilty about their choices.

DO YOU NEED A JOB, CAREER, OR CALLING? Not everybody needs a job that defines them as a person
Added:This is just a friendly reminder that some people only need a job, some people want a career, and some people want a calling. All three are different, all three are okay. The key is to pick the one that's right with you. So, let's get into it. A job pays the bills. You punch a clock, you leave, you don't think about it, you're not aspiring. You have other things in your life that are more important, they're a different priorities. And so, it just pays the bills. It doesn't need to define you.
You don't care what it means. I'll give you a great example. If you're an Olympian and you're training, but you need a job, a lot of them sometimes work at places like Home Depot. Because they're an Olympian, there's other parts of their lives that are more important.
If that sounds like you, then just get a job and don't get hung up on it. Number two is a career, and this is where most people sit. This is people saying, "Yeah, I want to make money, but I also want to spend those six, eight, 10 hours a day, whatever you're doing, feeling somewhat fulfilled. So, I want it to match to my interests and my values." This is trickier because these are the people that are always complaining about work-life balance, right? They want to nurture those other areas of their life, but they also want this work to have some meaning.
And then finally, there's the calling people. These are the people where work is the thing that they most want to do.
I fall in that category. I have a severe passion for what I do, and I would be really unhappy if I didn't do it. This isn't for everyone, because I'll tell you something right now. Do I sacrifice things? Probably you're in your mind I do, but to me they're not sacrifices.
It's just that I'm willing to let other things go in order to pursue this calling that I have to help people with their careers of all things, right? So, which one are you? Do you need a job right now, a career right now, or a calling right now? Put it in the comments. And guess what? It can change over your lifetime depending on where you are and what you're working on. By the way, if you're somebody that's struggling with that work-life balance piece and finding the career that really matches you, that's what me and my team specialize in.
