GCSE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PAPER ONE GRADE BOOSTER πππ #gcse #gcses #gcseenglish #gcserevision #year11Added:
GCSE English language paper 1 is in a few days and this is everything that you need to know before you walk into that exam hall. No nonsense. This is what you need to do to revise and this is how you are going to maximize your marks in every single question. If you do find this video helpful, be sure to follow me because I'm doing this for every single one of your GCSEs. First thing that you are going to do is to grab any practice questions, any practice papers that you have done. Identify your weakest question and then critically what you got wrong. Which assessment objectives did you said pop on? English language is all about how you answer the question.
So you need to understand where you lost marks in your mark so you understand how to get better. And I'm going to explain how to do that in every single question.
Straight off the bat, you should not lose any marks in question one. It's four marks. I would argue that it doesn't even take four minutes. is literally state four things directly from the extract. Just don't write long quotations and waste time and make sure you stay within the guidelines that they give you. Question two is about how the writer uses language. This is about identifying language devices and explaining the effect on the reader.
Bear in mind, you are the reader. Use the keywords of the question here.
Again, big mistake that people make is just quoting things from outside of the lines of text that they give you.
Question three is on structure. How has the writer structured the text to interest you? This is not about language just as the previous question was not about structure. Now this question I recommend two to three peel paragraphs because it kind of depends on the structure of the source that they have given you. Now a big mistake that people make here is commenting on the structure of paragraphs or sentence lengths.
That's not the point of this question.
This is about how the source developed.
This question is about the content.
you're thinking about zooming in on zooming out about your focus being shifted elsewhere. Bottom line, people get confused between questions two and three because three is about structural terminology. If you are a bit shaky on what these two questions are focused on, please go watch an extended Mr. Broth video on this or literally any English teacher who will explain how to answer each question in immense details. And I don't have time to do that right now.
Question four is an evaluate question.
It's worth 20 marks. It's a to what extent do you agree question. This is where you start to evaluate. You're now looking at language and structure combined. You're not just looking at oh there's a metaphor here. Why did they use this word? Why did they put it here in the text? Now question five is writing to describe or to narrate. Now the narrative account hot take but most of the time you can just pre prewrite it. Obviously you do have to answer the question. You can't just write down a creative story you've memorized. But I mean particular metaphors you want to use, ambitious vocabulary. How are you getting in all of this ambitious punctuation? And how are you going to structure this? Best of luck for the exam. Be sure to follow for more GCSE tips.
