Successful streetwear brand content creation requires strategic planning across multiple dimensions: balancing video and still content for optimal reach, creating versatile shoots that generate multiple social media posts (carousel posts, individual reels, and montage collages), and maintaining consistent quality through proper lighting, camera angles, and detail shots while adapting to different platforms and audience demographics.

Day in the Life of a Streetwear Brand Owner | Content, Clients & HoopsAdded:
[music] Hey.
>> Oh, Makoto.
>> Yeah, >> I'm here for it.
>> Today's Tuesday morning. About to go to my house right now and shoot some content for Commons. trying to like restrategize and pivot um some of our short form content and just be a little bit more intentional with our video. We do a lot of focus and put a lot of the focus on our still content um which is really dope. It's more of like our creative side, but obviously with growth on Instagram, videos, reals, those are going to be um able to reach more people like 90% of the time and the bandwidth to get a real is just a lot less than getting creative images. So, we're going to try and switch it up a little bit today. Um test some different things.
So, I already have basically all the products at my house, but I'm going to bring home a fresh pair of chop pants and be using these instead of my cooked pair. Um, just to have something nicer.
And then I'll probably just end up keeping that pair there. We don't really have these in stock to sell, but I do have one of each thermal still left here at the studio. So, I'm going to bring these home. I might use them to style today um to allow to kind of emphasize some of the shorts or bottoms and just have that be the top. And then [music] I have both of the reversible hoodies that we just recently dropped. So I have the plum one and the green one. We'll definitely do a reel for each of these.
Um just showing the reversible side. Um and just some detail shots. And then I have this sample hoodie right here that I think would pair really dope with one of the pairs of pants. So we'll see.
This one's like all chain stitched or not chain stitched, but this is all like one giant stitching around the hoodie.
Goes all the way around onto the sleeve onto the back. We actually never dropped this one. Maybe we will, maybe we should. Um, but I think it'll just be a nice little accent piece for the video.
And then again, all the rest of the stuff's at my house. I'll update you guys when we get there. I don't know if like adding the plant is going to make it better or worse.
>> Maybe try it for sure. Even if it's just like a slight accent.
>> I think I kind of like without it.
>> Yeah, me too. Yeah, I feel like that's pretty solid. First look is the one I'm wearing. You guys are going to get a full image of it when I step back here in a second. But the goal of these is just very simple like full body shots mixed with detail shots and like 10 to 15 seconds. Nice little audio. Not trying to over complicate it. Trying to be able to have something we can replicate and be able to put out in volume. So hopefully today we get like fiveish done maybe. Um we'll just kind of style them as we go. Maybe I'll film a little bit more of like the styling side. Yeah, we're gonna kind of see how this goes. I'll throw the final up on the screen after. And yeah, just run and gun.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. See see how it goes. From my angle, the camera is this way. So like if this were flat, it's like slightly tilted this way.
>> So you just rotate it just Yeah.
>> Imagine my fly were down that whole time. That'd be I'd be so mad. I'll keep my positioning. Flip it inside out. So we have one each side of the black and the plum.
>> Yep. And then if you have any details you want to point out that you want to like [ __ ] around with, do that. And then like as you like go to [ __ ] around with the detail, then I can do a punch in >> into like what? Like a detail shot.
>> Okay. So, I'll just do my rotation first.
>> This is how dead silent it is when I'm filming my YouTube videos [laughter] and I'm doing the B-roll.
>> Just set the zippers.
>> Yeah. Literally, bro, you seen like the It'll be like a function and it'll just be like feet feet squeaking.
>> Yeah. [laughter] >> It's dead ass me.
All right. So, we [snorts] just finished the onbody stuff. Now, we're going to shoot the details. We're going to do it handheld. We're going to try it. Uh, we have to go back and forth between horizontal and vertical. So, we just figured instead of flipping the camera every single time on the tripod, we'll just try handheld this time. If that ends up being a little too shaky or we don't really like love how it comes out, then we'll switch it up um for the next ones. But, the main thing is going to be try and get detailed shots of the belt.
Um, detail shots of like the sleeve cuffs on this one. Um, detailed shots of the stars on either side. Um, maybe like a zipper pull or like a zip up. Pants, back pockets, leather tab. Um, all the stuff. So, we'll kind of see how this one goes. I think the system right now is pretty good. We'll have to definitely do horizontal and vertical for the um first version because we're going to do like a carousel type of post with the horizontal stuff and do a split screen down the middle. So, it'll be like full body mixed with the detail. So like full body left side, detail right side and like a swipe through of them. And then these will also be and live as individual reels um with just like the one full look and then the other one will just be basically a collection of all the looks that we saw today. So call it like roughly five. Maybe we'll play around with those and see how they do.
So going to go into these detail shots right now.
>> I'm glad we filmed the other part horizontal cuz this looks like it was filmed horizontal.
>> This does, right? Yeah, I agree.
>> But this we can get away with vertical.
>> Okay. Yeah. And this all looks handheld, too. Yeah.
>> I think where I'm lacking right now is I'm not moving. Like I'm a little too still.
>> Yeah, I think movement would help.
>> Like there's a lot more movement in all these.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay, let's try again.
>> Yeah, it works for me.
>> Do one more shot. I'll just pop the hood up.
>> Okay. Do you want that a tighter shot?
>> Yeah.
>> Three, two, one.
>> Jesus.
[laughter] >> Try again.
>> Three, two, one.
>> I'm going to get this for real.
>> You got it. This is [music] This is it.
>> It's not it.
>> I can feel it.
>> Come on, man. That's too easy.
>> All right, so that's look number one.
Got the reversible commons thermal zip-up hoodie. I got the blank. I didn't even show the blank in here, but Oh [ __ ] it's on this side. Little star embroidery on the blank. Back tab right there. belt, pants, full commons fit.
So, we're going to jump into the next one and keep it pushing for the rest of the looks. Um, now I'll just kind of show you guys what the next looks are so you don't have to sit there and watch that whole process again. I thought it would be cool to film at least one of them just so you guys can kind of see the vision and then by the time this content goes live on the Instagram, you guys will be able to know how we did it.
So, we're going to throw on the other fits and I'll keep you guys updated. All right, so I just put four Wow, that is not a good angle. All right, so I just threw together four additional outfits.
I actually really like this one. This one you'll probably see in the weekly outfit videos this next week, but I'll just kind of show you guys them one by one as I'm putting them on so you can see them on body. Um, I just threw on the common studio zip-up flannel on the back. This one's tough. I paired that with the brown no mercy tea. Thought the neutral earthy tones on this one was tough. Then I was going to go black denim, but felt like it needed a little bit of like a upbeat color. So I just went with the jade straightle denim paired with this one. And then I threw on Old Faithfuls, the Fear of God Vans.
So, I actually really like this look.
So, right now we're trying to figure out, okay, we're going to film horizontally and vertically for each one, so we can have two different collage posts. But what if we just take the vertical of each and then you could just use horizontal B-roll and basically instead of it being split evenly 50/50, you do like 30 70.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> So, then we can just use this vertical, >> keep it, keep it on one side so we don't have to do the horizontal. And then we can just fill >> use the horizontal B- roll to fill in like the bigger gap. So it'll be like instead of right down the middle, it'll be like there.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> All right. Fit number two. Went with the studded Vans uniform tea in white. I styled this in a recent outfit video.
And then for the pants, I don't even have a jacket here. We have a matching jacket to this track pant, but it's not at the crib, so we're not using it for this fit. But dope little look.
Something calm. Not too crazy. All right, fit number four. Three >> green chop short. Then I got the blue Converse. All right, so last fit. I got the souvenir Vans on with the scrunch sock. Then I got the brown double knee.
Then I got the green reversible hoodie.
So we'll show both sides of this hoodie.
We'll start on the green side, get the detail shots, and then I think that's a good start to kind of feel out this type of content and see how we can kind of structure it. And then also like how many usable, postable clips, videos, pieces of content are we going to be able to get out of the five total fits that we filmed, right? Five.
>> Yeah, five.
>> Yeah, five total fits. So, at least five posts. And then the sixth will be the carousel. And then I'm thinking maybe a seventh that comes in and is like a montage or collage of all the fits in one reel or mixing detail shot. So anywhere from like six to eight pieces of content is what I'm expecting to get out of this, which is a whole weeks of content in a couple hours that we shot.
So we'll get to editing and see what we actually end up getting out of this.
That's a quick little film sesh for the day. Um, real quick though, I feel like maybe I should show you guys a little recent pickups. baby. Yesterday was my birthday and I got a couple cool things.
My parents got me a massage which I need so insanely bad. So, that'll definitely get cashed in. Uh, but the homie Drew got me a candle from Leil Labo. Oh my god, it smells so good. It's called Amberoxide. They don't make this one in a fragrance. They only make this one in a candle. I think uh Sentel 33 is the only one that they make in an actual candle and the fragrance, but this one smells crazy. I actually don't even want to light it. Like I got to wait for uh a special day or something to light that one. But if you guys don't know what Leil Labo is, um I'm going to ungate real quick. These are like my favorite fragrances. They are pretty expensive, but I think they're worth it. And if you honestly go to like a Dior or a Chanel or a Louis and get fragrance, you're probably spending even more than you would get at Leil Labo. I would recommend getting them in person so you can actually go and smell all the fragrances, but these are my main go-tos. I've actually never shared my little fragrance stack. So, this will be um one of them. I guess I could update you guys in the future with the other ones, but these are just my Laba ones.
So, this one is one of the newer ones, Violet, and this one was gifted to me by my homie. I actually did some uh work for him. He does car rentals, and so I shot pictures of one of his new Suburbans, and he blessed me with this.
And then he was the same guy that gave me the candle for my birthday yesterday.
This one's really fire. I literally have not worn this more than like one time maybe. So I definitely need to get this one in the rotation. This one is my favorite one. This is my kind of like daily for the most part. It's called the matcha. Um and this one is super fire.
And this one I bought at the end of last year. It's called Mooseeen. And every year, Labo does a city pack and they release a bunch of different scents that are specific to different cities and the different storefronts all around the world. So, each store basically gets their own fragrance or scent. Um, and Moose Tasheen is like one of the German ones or something or maybe one of the French ones. It sounds kind of French.
Um, but yeah, if you guys want to take a look or take a screenshot and go and find these, these are the best scents.
I'm ungape keeping them for the first time, but you guys know I kind of tell you everything. So, boom. And they all have like custom naming on them. You can put a custom label and then it's cheaper to refill them later on. So this one says Makoto. This one says my name, the government. And then this one says Bryson cuz this one was gifted to me. So there's a little fragrance setup. But the candle is new to the rotation. And then my homie gave me a crazy crazy gift. He blessed me with this pennant right here. It's called a baby fat frame and it's a chrome hearts pennant. Um, so my boy, who's a jeweler, actually pulled up to dinner with this chain so that I had something to put it on because the opening for this one's super small. But I ended up stacking it with my diamond dagger. So, I think that this stack is pretty fire. And I honestly might even just get rid of my big cross now that I have this little one cuz I've been wanting to kind of like downsize it and just have something a little more subtle. Um, so that was really dope. And then let me go grab something from upstairs. So my boy that gifted me the pennant also gifted me this insane Betty Boop jacket. This is from 1985.
It has a patch right here on the chest.
Whoa. And then it's got the graphic here on the back. Colors on this are crazy.
It fits me like a glove. Um, so big shout out to my boy Colin. And then my best friend for I don't even know. It's been 10 years probably. He is a jeweler.
Um, his family owns a jewelry company.
It's called Maya Carolina. They have a store out here in Arizona in Gilbert at the Santan Mall. And he gifted me this bracelet. And it's kind of hard to tell from this angle, but there's a stone in every other link. And there's a full carat of diamonds in this bracelet, which is a pretty insane gift. I got very, very blessed by the homies this year. But more so, I had a really nice dinner last night and got to hang out with everyone. Um, and just got to be around my people, which for me was the best gift I could get. The presents is a present for sure. So, a couple little birthday pickups I wanted to show you guys. Shout out to my Karolina. By the way, if you guys are getting ready to get engaged or eventually will get engaged, if you go to like a K Jewelers or a like a Jared's, you're going to get absolutely bent over for your ring.
Every single person I know that I've ever known that is going to get engaged, I send them to my boy Danny and he absolutely makes sure to take care of them. And then he even tells them cuz there's a K Jewelers like four doors down, five doors down from them. He literally says, "Take this quote, go over there, just walk over there and ask them what the difference of the price, what they would charge for the same exact thing, and it's thousands of dollars more for the same exact thing."
So, shop local, shop with the homies.
Again, they do order online. So, if you're like, I live in Nebraska, but I'm going to get engaged and I want to at least get a quote and just get an idea for what a price is going to be. Or if you went to a Kay's or Jared's and you got a quote already and you like have the price, you might pull the trigger.
worth it to just ask them for what the same thing would be from them. I guarantee you it's going to be a lot cheaper. Quality is going to be A1.
You're helping a local business and on top of that, they do full custom pieces.
So, you can buy something that already exists or you can fully customize your entire piece. And a little ball knowledge for you guys. He actually helped me make the Common Studio Star bracelet and you guys saw how those came out. So, if you need it, make sure you guys hit him up. I'll leave his at on the screen, his personal at as well as the business at. You guys can contact either of those. My boy will get you right with literally anything. It could be diamond earrings. It could be a bracelet for yourself, a tennis bracelet, a Cuban, anything. A custom piece if you want to make a custom ring, a custom bracelet, a custom necklace, custom pendant. Um, he's my guy. He's my go-to. Uh, been my guy, my go-to for a long time. Really solid dude. Great business, great family, all that good stuff. So, there's that quick little uh intermission for the video. I'm going to get some food in me right now. Head back to the studio. See you guys. Do zooms on everything. I got to color grade everything. So, it looks like very, very bare bones right now.
>> Can we see the shell? Yeah.
[snorts] >> Something impressive quite yet.
>> Okay.
>> We like to see the process.
[singing] >> Oh, I [ __ ] up. I got rid of all my zooms.
>> Tough though.
>> Thank you.
>> I had a bunch of other edits in there from like punching in and I accident copied and pasted a base layer.
>> So, >> do you get a sandwich for lunch? You know, on top of my sweet dream, >> you got a get [ __ ] sandwich.
>> Yep.
>> Classic.
>> A few moments later. I >> think we got a final.
[singing] >> So, we did learn a few things from our uh take today. One, I need to do a better job at lighting. Um, I didn't have like really any backlighting or really any creative looking lighting in general. It looked like I shot it in my house. So, uh, we can get a little more creative on that front. Um, and then honestly I liked everything else about it though. I think the angles were good.
I think the detail shots were good.
Maybe we can bring a different lens next time for the detail shots. So we can do >> the 24 to 70 >> full body shots on the wide angle and then we can bring in the 24 to 70 to shoot the detail shots vertical, horizontal. Um, so that's one thing to note. But everything else is pretty dope. I think we can definitely beef up the set design. But I actually just bought new couches and those are going to come in on Monday next week. So, once I get the new couches in there, I think we'll be able to film in the other room or just be able to move furniture around to create different set looks. Um, but I like the floor in my crib and I just have some good natural light and so I think that's a easy way to kind of get out of the studio and make it feel a little more like lifestyle um kind of vibe rather than just like studio studio studio all the time or out in random places in public. So, we'll see how the rest of them come out. I think they're going to be pretty dope because that one was good. And then um we'll just kind of go from there and see what we can build off of. All this content is going to be posted up on Common Studios on Instagram. So you guys go check it out.
And I'm just editing um my recent pickups video right now, which is going to be the video I post over this weekend while I'm in Dallas for OT7s. And then next week I'll get back to it with the weekly outfit videos. And then I'll be catching up on all this vlog content that I'm filming now. The only thing is I'm probably going to have to book the flight that you're on for sure because I'm going to have to drive.
>> Going. Go on the one going for sure which is leaves at 2:30 >> Southwest.
>> Yes. Leaves at 2:30 and gets there at 7 something. It'll see it. But that's the one to go on. Coming home. Do whatever the [ __ ] you want.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. I'm going to play Sunday by ear.
I'm going to hit up Drew and see what he's feeling. My thing is like if I'm filming this video this whole weekend, I would hate for the video to just stop halfway through the weekend. So like for that reason, I kind of want to stick it through. But at the same time, I don't need like I have so much other [ __ ] to do that I don't need to be there that long. But I'm also >> I do the [ __ ] for the love of the game.
So if I'm going to go out there and film a video, I'd rather it be a completed video. So I'm I'm >> I'm in between right now. So I'll make that decision at some point. It doesn't matter though cuz I'm going to I'll I'll book it myself. All right, cool. Uh well, hit me if you need anything else this week.
>> And I'll do the same. Yep, I will.
>> Sweet. Appreciate you, bro.
>> Talk to you. Yep.
>> Peace. But these teams are put together by really exathletes and celebrities for the most part. So like Cam Newton has a team, Gunonna has a team, Quo used to have a team, I don't think he does anymore. Hellstar has a team with Adidas, and I want to say there's a few other ones, but Common Hype came into the space this year into OT7s with a team called FiveStars. Five Star is a local youth football program out here in Arizona. I actually used to play pickup basketball with the owner of the team.
He put together this team because his kids were playing ball and he started this organization called it five stars.
Their 8U team at the time went like two or three years without losing a single game. They were just absolutely insane.
They still are absolutely insane. They won a championship game this weekend or they won the championship to a entire tournament this weekend. The championship game was 36 to zero. Like these kids are insane and they get covered by a YouTuber named AJ Green. If you don't know who AJ Green is, he's in like the youth football space kind of like Destroying um and guys like that.
So, he found Five Stars, however many years ago it was, and saw the vision with it. These kids were insane. No one was covering them. So, he started making YouTube videos about their team, um, to kind of add into the content he was already doing, and it just kind of blew the team up. Like, these kids are 10, 11 years old with 50, 80,000 followers on Instagram. And so, this year, he teamed up with James Jones who is an exNFL receiver. He played for the Packers and the Raiders and maybe a couple other teams, but he is the head coach at Chandler High School out here in Arizona. And he took the head coach position for the OT7's team. Used all of his connections to build a super team of coaches. So Aaron Rogers, Derek Carr, himself, Nick Collins, Lehan McCoy, Legar Blunt, Marcus Golden. So to say the least, the coaching staff is absolutely stacked. All of those factors combined played into us getting into OT7s this year. We got connected with the team before the OT7 stuff and designed all of their tracksuits, all of their uniforms, all of their off the- field gear, so like their mesh shorts and other things that we're selling. We have a few performance items actually getting manufactured right now, which include gloves and undershirt like compression shirts. So, we really dove into the youth athletic space here in the past 6 to 8 months. Not 8 months, more like 6 months. But, it's been a really interesting market to kind of explore and navigate and I have put a lot of time and energy into it. But a lot of the pieces have started to fall into place recently. So we'll start to see some of the benefits of all the hard work that we put into it. I mean, we already have and just being able to be in that space on that stage in that setting on that platform. I mean, if you watch OT7s, half of it's like banter about the game and the other half of the announcing and just coverage of it is a lot of the off the- field stuff. So just personalities of the kids on the team, what these kids are wearing off the field and on the field. Our tracksuits were like the talk of OT7s. I'm not gassing it up myself because I wasn't there, but it was translated to me and I guess we're going to find out for ourselves this weekend. The tracksuits are a huge hit, so we're really proud of those. They all have 3M piping on them.
I actually have one right here. Let me see. This is the fivestar tracksuit.
Common hype hit. You got the fivestar hit. You have the purple zipper making out in the star. You have the 3M reflective piping on the elbows as well with the stars sewn into the back pattern.
It's going to have the same star hit on the back. We also did a nice mesh lining just for a little more breathability.
And then we have the track pant right here. Got the purple paneling on the legs. You have a cinch at the bottom so you can wear them open or you could cinch them. Give them that more athletic look. Common height fivestar hit right there. And then this was the version that we actually released. These are just the samples but you kind of get the idea. Same thing. is just in our signature plum color.
>> So, all that is just to say we're kind of starting to make a mark in that space and it's something that we're excited to continue to explore and build connections in that area and just kind of get to know that scene a little bit more in that demographic a little bit more because our audience is more of that 18 to 25ish range whereas this is like 8 to 17 probably 18. So basically just that drop below uh our current demographic and customer base cuz as we've grown as a company our audience has grown with us and so over the past 6 years you get comfortable sometimes serving one audience and our goal is to be able to reach anyone and everyone and that's what common hype is about I feel like just being able to be connectable and relatable to anyone and everyone.
But yeah, this weekend will be a cool live experience of everything that we've kind of put together so far. And pretty much the only stuff I've seen of the team in the stuff is through a screen other than the stuff that I shot for their like couple media days they had.
But I haven't got to see the high school team in action playing against some legit competition. So, I'm really pumped to go this weekend, experience that.
Hopefully the weather's not too bad. Um, and just be able to document the process as well. I'm going to film a really dope video as I was trying to explain to Chris. So, you guys will see that in the future. I'm going to get back to editing this video and maybe I'll catch up with you guys tonight at Hoops. Ooh, do I film Hoops tonight? Hold on.
>> Littlest bro.
>> McDonald's. Talk to me.
>> I'm daily vlogging again.
>> That's tough.
>> You might have to film the runs tonight.
>> You should.
>> Are you good for it?
>> I'm definitely good for it. Should I Should I hit up one of the minions?
>> No, no, no. I I was just gonna like I was just going to bring my little tripod and put on a table.
>> Oh, okay. Bet. Yeah, definitely can do that.
>> I I just needed to I just need a confirmation.
>> No, I mean, yeah, there's going to be a I'm going to bring my T7. So, cuz I'm going to fry, but I'm going to need to copy that.
>> All right. Yeah, I'll see.
I'll get you the footage, bro.
>> Bad news. We're filming an S Log.
>> No, >> I'm just joking.
>> I don't have the I don't have the facilities for that, >> bro. You literally do. I don't have the storage facilities for that. I don't want to get the storage facilities for that.
>> No, I'm just [ __ ] with you. Yeah, you should definitely film it, though.
>> I bet. See if I can hit a shot tonight.
There you have it. See you at All right.
I'm about to head to Hoops right now.
I'm not going to lie. I had a long ass day. I'm not really feeling like hooping right now, but I know once I get there, I'll be chilling. But I didn't even get a chance to eat when I got home. So, I haven't eaten since I had my lunch earlier, like after we were done filming. My battery's at 47%. So, probably film a game. Maybe two if we're lucky. Check in with the boys and then that's it for the day. So, let's go get some buckets.
>> Are we doing a a common hype vlog today?
A >> little Percy vlog.
>> A little Makoto vlog.
>> Yeah, >> I'm here for it.
>> It's about time. Give the people what they want.
>> What's the footwear?
>> You got the book frags on today.
>> Damn, you really got his jumper for real, too.
>> I mean, I would say so.
That's huge. No, that's what we're going to go with. I like that. We're not [music] >> back.
That's it. That's it. Don't know that.
[music] Everyone know >> good shot Step into it.
>> Back.
>> Get that, brother.
Game one was filled with nothing but low lights. We're going to try again.
Good job, >> boy.
He didn't even go.
It was us.
Come on. [screaming] >> Sam, it ain't you.
ONE.
>> YEAH.
