Australia in UNESCOAdded:
When the gavel came down [music] and the Murujuga had been listed, this was the end of a almost 30-year journey for the elders, [music] but of course it was the beginning of something as well. [music] My name is Krystyna Abras. [music] I'm Australia's Ambassador to UNESCO.
Australia has been a founding member of UNESCO. [music] We are known as a nation for bringing expert advice, whether it's our marine scientists, or it's [music] teachers, or it's advice on indigenous languages.
When there is an Australian coming to the headquarters, they want to hear [music] from us. One of the new areas that Australia is working on with UNESCO is around the impact of a changing [music] climate on World Heritage properties. Australia has 21 World Heritage sites, both [music] cultural and natural. One very exciting property was the Murujuga cultural landscape. It was fully indigenous led.
The day of the inscription was a very special one. We were connected with the community in [music] Western Australia who were watching online in a real sense that we were all there together to protect this really precious part of Australia's nationhood and landscape and the beautiful rock engravings.
