Even after being caught, the two got into a physical altercation with store security. Now that law enforcement had arrived, cooperation somehow became too much to ask from two teenagers who had completely lost control.

Stalworth, 25, of Buffalo, New York. Stalworth had previously been banned from returning to Walden Galleria following a shoplifting incident.

[00:36:19]Instead of stopping, she returned to the mall four more times in less than a month, stealing multiple pairs of sunglasses with a combined value of about $4,900.

[00:36:28]Because she repeatedly violated the trespass order and continued reaffending, Stalworth pleaded guilty to burglary and grand lararseny. She was ultimately sentenced to between 1 year and 8 months and 5 years in prison. The case shows that youth is not a factor that lessens the consequences when someone repeatedly chooses to break the law. One act of shoplifting can become the starting point for future offenses and the price paid only gets higher.

Under New Mexico law, [snorts] if the value of the stolen property is under $500, they could face up to 6 to 12 months in jail and fines ranging from $500 to $1,000. They were still very young to be carrying a criminal record because of impulsive decisions. For people just entering adulthood, this should have been the time to build a future, not begin it with a criminal conviction. At a young age and just stepping into adult life, she risked her future by resorting to theft.
