[00:00:56]Top of his class, top of Japan, probably top of the world.

[00:01:04]The bored of someone so intelligent that the world feels too slow [music] for him.

[00:01:09]One day, he finds a notebook dropped by a Shinigami, a death god.

[00:01:14]The rule is simple. Write someone's name in the notebook while picturing their face, and they die.

[00:01:22]And what does this perfect student, this future model citizen, what does he do with unlimited killing power?

[00:01:30]He decides to save the world.

[00:01:33]He starts killing [music] criminals, murderers, terrorists, people the justice system failed to catch or let walk free.

[00:01:42]And here's the part that makes Death Note so uncomfortable.

[00:01:46]It works.

[00:01:47]Crime drops globally. People feel safer.

[00:01:52]The world reacts to this mysterious killer called to Kira, not with horror, but with worship.

[00:01:59]Millions of people call him a god, a savior.

[00:02:03]So again, what did he do wrong?

[00:02:08]Here's where it gets [music] interesting.

[00:02:10]Light didn't start as a monster. He started with a genuine, almost beautiful [music] desire.

[00:02:16]He wanted to fix what was broken.

[00:02:19]His frustration with the world was valid. Justice systems do fail.

[00:06:37]That gap between wanting to fix something and appointing yourself as the [music] only person qualified to fix it, that is where every beautiful intention goes to die.
