I've come to the magic roundabout.
And there has been some work done here.
Don't know when.
Don't know why.
Maybe it's the ash dieback thing. I don't know.
But it looks like >> [sighs] >> they've smashed up the uh that little shelter that that little enclosure that was built here.
Just going to have a look.
Oh, yeah.
Should have brought me pole.
Yeah, what have they done?
Smashed it up.
And I've got to say they've cut a swathe through here.
Look, you can see where lorries have been.
I'll go back that way.
>> [cough and clears throat] >> Yes, they've properly been in here and done a job, haven't they?
Oh, well.
>> [sighs] >> Yeah.
Lots of work done.
Want to follow this swathe that they cut for a bit see how far they've actually gone.
Well, the magic roundabout is a little less magic, really.
Mhm.
Oh, well.
>> [sighs] >> Wonder when this was done. I haven't been here for a while, so I don't really know.
Might have been a couple of months ago cuz all the leaves they're on the trees that they've chopped down are dried up, so Oh, well.
>> [sighs] >> I fancy some lamb chops.
So, this is one of those days when I didn't have a plan at all.
Plan?
There ain't no plan.
So, I just thought I went into Asda to the reduced section, bought myself some lamb chops.
I think it was lamb chops.
I bought me little um gasifier wood gasifier stove, uh well.
I think there's plenty of wood to use, so uh Let's find a likely little spot.
And hope no one comes along.
Maybe my magic roundabout is a thing of the past.
Oh, well.
Lovely day, though. Beautiful day.
Blue skies all around.
Here we are, look. The old Tom Shoe.
>> [cough and clears throat] >> Excuse me.
Yes, Tom Shoe. It was written on there somewhere. Oh, there it is.
Tom Shoe. Whoever Tom Shoe is.
But yeah, wood gasifier. What have I got here?
Some lovely uh lamb leg chops.
So, you look say there's plenty of wood around.
I'll go and grab a bit of wood. We'll get this thing loaded up.
Get cooking.
>> [sighs] >> It's nice and dry, anyway.
Breaks easy. Break it all up quite small.
Cuz this gasifier likes it small.
Just let me go out get some bigger bigger bits.
I've got a really old Look at this.
Really old uh thing. I'm going to put one in the bottom.
And I will put some bits in.
Upright's always good, it reckons for these. And I did do a video once about how to load one of these up.
So, >> [sighs and gasps] >> and you light it from the top.
Light it from the top of it.
And it burns downwards.
So, that's what we're going to try and do. See what happens with that, eh?
So, I'll put some of the smaller stuff on top.
>> [clears throat] >> Hopefully, all will be well.
Going to put the old firelighter in there.
So, I've cleared a good area around where the wood stove's going to be.
And the ground underneath all this leafage.
And the leaves, they're still wet.
Wasn't long ago we had a load of rain.
So, let's get this blazed up.
>> [cough and clears throat] >> So, that's what you do. You load it from the top.
Hopefully, it will catch that wood on fire that's underneath it all.
We hope and we pray.
So, I didn't bring any kindling with me.
I'm going to get a kettle on.
So, hopefully, it'll be okay. This kettle will probably give off give off a bit of smoke, won't it? I don't know.
Even though it's a smokeless stove.
Oh, dear.
Get some of the smaller stuff going in there on the top.
Oh.
Yeah, just one of those days. I didn't know quite what to do.
And I haven't used Look, see, I haven't used me gasifier for ages and ages. And I haven't been to the roundabout for ages, you know. I mean, look at the place.
They've absolutely decimated it.
Oh.
>> [sighs] >> Oh, well.
Everything changes in time, don't it?
Hey.
All right. Okay, we've got the kettle boiling.
What I'm going to do, I'm going to get that oil on straight away, I think.
>> [snorts] >> Here we go.
Put it around that way.
>> [sighs] >> Get me uh >> [snorts] >> Get me fork out.
>> [snorts] >> I think I'm going to get those lamb steaks on as soon as possible.
So, first things first, stir coffee.
There we go.
Get the lamb chops.
I'll cut them open.
>> [snorts] >> Quickly as possible.
Nice sizzle there.
This is uh I'll get both down while I can.
I don't think this is going to take long.
Glad to say.
Cuz this wood is still a bit damp.
Took a while for it to get going, but I think it's going now. It's starting to gasify.
Which is a good thing.
So, leave that to do its thing there.
And have a sip of coffee here.
Lovely.
Put a bit more wood in there, I think.
It's supposed to get really hot next few days.
That'll be okay.
It's the um smokeless wood gasifier.

Yeah, um I think tomorrow's Armed Forces Day.
I'm actually playing down on uh Southsea Bandstand tomorrow, so once I finish playing, I'm I'm playing from 12:00 to 12:30, so once I'm done, I'll go around, film a bit, parachute jump, I think. I think I filmed it last year as well, Armed Forces Day.
So, I'll film it again for posterity.

And the actual team did message me asking me if I they could use the footage from that last year.

Time for another sip of coffee. Get the plate out. I remembered it this week.

I think that's just about right.
Just died down the fire.

Yeah, beautiful.

Where's me old Victorinox?
There you go, look.
Just put that on the plate.
And that's when it's burnt out.
So, I'll just let that burn down to ash now, which it usually does with the wood gasifier.
>> [snorts] >> So, let's consume this lovely these lovely chops.

Let's try a bit of this.
Mhm.
I do like lamb. I don't have it very often.
A bit of mint sauce would have been nice.
Or maybe some brown sauce even.
But au naturel.
Beautiful.

That's absolutely lovely, that is.
There's some marrow in the bone there.

Yeah.
You know what time it is.

A blooming time, I'd say, for the sun to make an appearance.
It comes out for a week, didn't it?
About 3 weeks ago.
And then boom, gone again.
Back to winter.
But could this be Could this be the summer time starting?
Who knows? Don't know with the British weather, do you?

I don't think that stove will take too long to cool down. No, it doesn't normally.
Once you get the fire the embers out of it, it's pretty quick.
Is coffee gone?
So, I'm going to start putting things away.
I think by the time I've got everything put away, it's all going to that stove will be cooled down.
So, I will leave that till last.
I did bring my stool with me, but you know, nice convenient log.
Make Make the most of nature.
What nature provides.
That's what I say.
Just check if it's cool.
Yeah, it's cool enough.
Yeah.
If I can do that, then it's definitely cool enough, isn't it?
So, let's get that put away.
Do you like this stove? It's like a jigsaw puzzle getting it back together again putting it all away.

But, I'm trying to think when the first video I ever used this thing was.
That's useful, too.
Um Can't think when it was I actually first used used it.
I know I bought it beginning of lockdown.
I tested it in the garden, but I never filmed it.
Stupid, really. I could have filmed that being tested, couldn't I?
Uh but it is a marvelous thing.
Very versatile.
I've done videos where I've used various fuels in it, gel blocks, Trangia spirit burner.
>> [cough and clears throat] >> But yeah, it is a great thing.

Just make sure smash it all down.
Yeah, that's out.
And then I'll just bury it all again.

What a lovely cookout that was at the decimated magic roundabout.

But we persevered and we got there in the end.
