The YouTube Live Stream Setting That Increased My Revenue
Added:If you are monetized on YouTube and you do live streams, there is a feature inside YouTube Studio that many creators either ignore or don't know how to use properly. As a result, they may be leaving money on the table every time they go live. Hello everyone. Welcome back to I am Miss E Miss E. If you've not subscribed, kindly consider subscribing, like the video, and ring the notification bell so that you can get all and occasional tips whenever I post a video.
Today, I want to show you how ads scheduled work during YouTube live streams, how to set it up correctly, and some important mistakes to avoid.
Before we begin, please remember that scheduling ads does not guarantee a specific amount of income.
Your earnings will still depend on factors such as your audience, viewer location, advertiser demand, watch time, and whether viewers are eligible to see ads.
When most creators think about YouTube ads, they think about ads appearing on regular uploaded videos. However, YouTube also allows monetized creators to earn revenue from eligible live streams.
During a live stream, ads can be shown before viewers enter the stream, and in some cases, during the stream itself.
Instead of manually remembering to trigger ads break throughout a long live stream, YouTube provides an ad scheduling feature.
This feature allows YouTube automatically manage ad opportunities during your broadcast.
Think of it as letting YouTube help you decide when ads may be shown instead of having to do everything yourself.
For creators who regularly host long live streams, this can be a very useful tool. A surprising number of creators focus only on getting more viewers.
Of course, viewers are important. But sometimes, the issue is not traffic. The issue is monetization settings.
Some creators go live for 2 hours, 3 hours, or even longer and never revealed their monetization options.
Others don't realize that ad scheduling even exist.
Because of this, they may not be maximizing the revenue opportunities available during their streams. Again, this does not mean more ads automatically equal more money. It is simply means you are giving YouTube additional opportunities to serve ads when appropriate.
Before getting excited, you need to understand that not every channel has access to live stream monetization.
Generally, you need to be in the YouTube Partner Program and meet YouTube's monetization requirements.
Your live stream must also comply with YouTube's advertiser friendly guidelines. If your stream contains content that advertisers may not want to appear alongside, monetization can be limited. Always make sure your streams follow YouTube policies.
Now, let's talk about where to find this feature.
When preparing a live stream, open YouTube Studio, click create, select go live, create your live stream as usual.
As you configure your stream details, look for the monetization section.
If your channel is eligible, you should see monetization option.
Within those options, YouTube may provide settings related to ads, breaks, and the ad scheduling.
The exact appearance may change over time because YouTube frequently update Studio.
If your screen looks slightly different from mine, don't panic. The feature is usually located within the monetization settings for your live streams. I will show you and the demonstrate at the end how you do it step-by-step.
Automatic ads versus manual ads.
This is where many creators become confused.
There are generally two approaches.
One is automatic ad scheduling.
With automatic scheduling, YouTube manages ad opportunities for you.
The system attempts to place ads at suitable moments.
This saves time because you don't have to constantly monitor ad break.
For many creators, especially beginners, this is the easiest option.
Number two, manual ads break.
Manual ads give creators more control.
You decide when to trigger ad opportunities during the live stream.
This can be useful if you know exactly when there will be natural pause.
For example, you might take a short break.
You might switch topics. You might pause between segments.
Those moments can be better opportunities for ads than interrupting an important discussion.
Which option is better?
This is one of the most common questions.
The truth is there is no universal answer.
Some creators prefer automatic scheduling because it requires less effort. Others prefer manual control because they know their audience better.
The best option often depends on your content style.
If you run educational streams, tutorials, interviews, or long discussion, you may want to think carefully about when interruptions could affect viewers' experience.
Remember, your audience comes first.
A creator who overloads viewers with ads may hurt retention. And lower retention can negatively affect channel growth.
One of the biggest mistakes that creators make is believing that more ads automatically equal more revenue.
This is not always true.
Let's imagine two creators. The first creator inserts ad breaks constantly.
Viewers become frustrated. Some leave the stream.
Watch time drops. Engagement drops. The second creator uses more strategically.
Viewers stay longer, and engagement remains healthy. The overall viewing experience is better. Which creator is likely building a stronger channel?
Probably the second one.
Monetization should support your content. It shouldn't never destroy the viewer experience.
Retention simply means keeping viewers watching.
The longer viewers stay, the more valuable your stream becomes. Many creators focus entirely on monetization and forget about retention. Imagine a live stream that lasts 2 hours. If viewers leave after 5 minutes because they become annoyed, that hurts your channel. Always think long-term.
A happy audience is more likely to return for future streams.
A loyal audience is one of the most valuable asset a creator can have.
Let's discuss some best practices for live stream ads. Practice number one.
Use natural breaks.
If you are ending one topic and moving to another, that may be a better opportunity for ads.
Practice number two.
Avoid excessive interruption. Your viewers came for your content. Respect their time.
Practice number three.
Test and evaluate.
Different audiences respond differently.
Pay attention to analytics.
Practice number four.
Focus on value first. The better your content, the better your chances of building a loyal audience.
Practice number five.
Keep learning. YouTube regularly update features and monetization tools. Stay informed.
Some creators enable ad scheduling and expect dramatic results overnight.
That is not how YouTube works. Revenue depends on many factors. Example includes viewer location, audience demographics, advertiser demand, watch time, seasonality, competition, number of eligible viewers, the quality of your content.
Ad scheduling is simply one tool among many. It is shouldn't be viewed as part of a broader monetization strategy.
Besides ad scheduling, consider these strategies.
Build a loyal audience.
Encourage viewers to subscribe.
Create engaging discussions.
Stream consistently.
Promote streaming in advance.
Use compelling titles and thumbnails.
Improve audio quality.
Improve viewer engagement.
The stronger your live stream become, the more monetization opportunities may become available.
The common question asked is, "Can I force everyone to watch ads?"
No.
Not every viewer will see ads.
Some viewers may not be eligible. Others may use YouTube Premium. "More ads guarantee more money?" No. There are many factors involved. Should the small channels use ad scheduling?
If you are monetized and eligible, it can be worth exploring.
Just remember to prioritize viewer experience.
Is automatic better than manual? Not necessarily. It depends on your content and audience.
Ad scheduling is one of those YouTube that many creators overlook.
While it won't magically transform a channel overnight, it can help monetized creators make better use of available ad opportunities during live streams.
The key is balance. Don't focus only on revenue. Focus on creating valuable content that keeps viewers engaged and coming back for more. If you combine great content with a smart monetization settings, you put yourself in a stronger position for long-term growth.
Now, let me show you uh step-by-step how to set those ads.
For vertical live, first, you have to set the live because vertical live you can only do it on phone. So, you have to set the live on phone, then schedule it for maybe 10 minutes later, 1 hour. It will depend on when you want to go live. Then, after rescheduling it, you go to you If you don't have a laptop, for me I do it laptop, I go to the laptop. If you don't have a laptop, you can now go to browser and type YouTube Studio desktop. Then, you sign in and you'll find YouTube Studio there. So, when you find your YouTube studio, the tutorial I'll show you on laptop is the same that you'll use on website.
I come here.
I come to YouTube studio.
When you come to YouTube studio, click content.
When you click content, you have videos, shorts, live. I come here for live.
When I come in, you see see they're coming in.
This one I'm using on the laptop. Check this. If you don't have a laptop or on your phone, you go to browser, then type search for YouTube YouTube studio desktop, then you log in, then you you follow the same. You come to YouTube studio, content, then here. When you come here, you see the dollar sign.
Click the dollar sign here.
When you click the dollar sign, you see mode.
It's It's It's here, mid-roll. So you see the dollar sign the the monetization is on. Then there's manual. I come here.
Click. I don't want to do it manually because manual is where I'll keep on. If I say manually, I just have to keep on coming and uh triggering the ads every now and then, but I don't have that time because when you're live, you're busy talking and doing that. So I come for If you want automatic recommended, the ones that are recommended by YouTube, it's okay, but me I want to schedule.
When you go to schedule, you come here expe- ex- estimated frequency for There is Click this. 6 minutes, 12 minutes, 18. Mostly I do 6 minutes.
Then here you go show ads to viewers at a different time to maximize the revenue. Yes. So I do click here so that the YouTube will show ads viewers I will show ads to viewers at different times to max- so that it doesn't show them at the same time. So it shows at different.
This one can get ads, the other one at a different They are done at a time. And it doesn't show that You might have 10 people watching Well, all of them don't get that six ads at the same time. Each will get at different time. After that, then you come here and see.
When you do that, now you are able to see it. See? Wait. What? Mhm.
So, you are able You are able now to get more revenue.
