Changing leadership does not automatically resolve underlying organizational problems; the real issues (such as bad contracts and roster composition) remain regardless of personnel changes, making leadership transitions ineffective without addressing fundamental structural problems.

Why Sixers Firing Daryl Morey Changes Absolutely NOTHING..Added:
The Sixers fired GM Daryl Myyur. Well, is he the GM? President of basketball operations Daryl my guess Elton Brand still has a job, but they they part ways with Daryl my uh we're going to talk about that. I'm going to give you my opinion on that. And then I want to react to some other uh sports reporters opinions and takes on it as well, including our friend Spike Eskin and uh Elliot Shore Parks and maybe some others. But uh let's just start with let's just start with the shams tweet.
Daryl my out as president of basketball operations with the Philadelphia 76ers after six seasons. My 76ers owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer met on Tuesday evening in Philadelphia and the decision was made to part ways. Um, I think that most people were probably expecting me to be very happy about this or and I and I'm I mean I people were expecting me to be happy about it and like very excited and like throw a celebration and I can't be I can't be I can't throw a celebration. I can't rant and rave like oh my god yes we fired you because the contracts that he signed are still here. This this doesn't really do anything. You know, I'll throw a party when a new GM comes in and waves a magic wand to get rid of these bad contracts that has the 76ers stuck in purgatory until 2029. I mean, the the damage is already done.
You know, this is like if somebody murders your whole family and then they're on trial and they get uh life in prison. Are are are you supposed to celebrate? You still killed my whole family. You know what I'm saying?
I don't know if I'm allowed to say that on YouTube, but the damage is done. The bad contracts Daryl my signed are still like this.
You know, I thought I would be happy about it, but before this news and after this news, I feel exactly the same because the 76ers need to get a GM that can that that has a magic wand. You know, also uh this too, the 76ers also put this out.
Head coach Nick Nurse will remain uh will continue his role into a fourth season with the 76ers. sources tell ESPN four-time NBA championship architect Bob Meyers, the president of sports uh for Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, will be tasked to lead the search for the new head executive for the 76ers, and he will oversee the franchise's basketball department in the interim.
So, Bob Meyers is not becoming the GM or the president of basketball operations.
He's hiring the new president of basketball operations. Nick Nurse is staying. Um, and I guess, you know, a lot of people are going to ask me what my opinion about that is. Uh, my opinion about Nick Nurse remaining the 76ers head coach. I don't like it. I don't like it at all. And it's not because it's not because I feel like there's some other candidate out there that's way better than Nick Nurse, right? Like the reason I don't like it isn't even really because I don't like Nick Nurse as a coach. Because I don't like Nick Nurse as a coach. And really if if we go back to like what I've said, what some other people have said that, you know, a good winning roster is much more important than which head coach you have, right? Like Steve Kerr with the 2016 Warriors versus Steve Kerr now when the Warriors aren't very good. You know what I'm saying? Like I I do think we focus a little bit too much on the coach and coaching. I think we focus too much on a coach's decisions with a bad team.
You know what I mean? like was Nick was Nick Nurse going to play Justin Edwards more and that was going to help us beat the Knicks. You know what I'm saying?
Was it was he going to put Dalen Terry out there and that was going to help us beat the Knicks? You know, so I just think it's a it was a bad team and I think I know Nick Nurse can win at least with a championship level roster. He did it in Toronto. He's not a guy that's going to elevate players. He's not a guy that's going to he's not an Eric Spolstra. He's not going to take five undrafted players to the NBA finals or anything crazy like that. But I I I have concluded that the coach doesn't affect whether the team wins or loses a championship that much. It's probably 90% do you have good enough players? And the 76ers do not have good enough players right now and they have horrible contracts. Also, if if we the thing about Nick Nurse is if we could all agree, right? Let's say in a perfect world, we all agree that coaches don't matter. Nick Nurse versus another coach that doesn't matter. He's just [ __ ] annoying. Like that's why I don't like it. You know, if you gave me another coach that was just as good or bad or didn't matter just as much as Nick Nurse doesn't matter, I would choose the other coach because Nick Nurse is [ __ ] annoying. I'm tired of seeing this piano playing dork [ __ ] screaming at officials the whole game instead of coaching his I can't stand him. I absolutely can't stand him personalitywise, but I don't think Nick Nurse or a different coach makes or breaks the success of your team when you have a bad roster in the first place. So there's there's my take on on that. I also think Nick Nurse has run his course in Philadelphia. I don't think any fan I don't think there's a single fan in Philadelphia that enjoys Nick Nurse that wants him to be the coach. It's just a sour the whole thing is sour. The whole way this last two years went down is a sour taste in Philadelphia fans mouths and keeping Nick Nurse is just just seems stupid. You know, clear the whole thing out. Why fire Daryl my keep Nick Nurse? I don't understand it. But anyway, again, like none of this matters. None of this matters if you don't get a new GM that has a magic wand that can trade Joel Embiid and get Paul George to retire. None of it matters.
Somebody just tweeted me and said, "What if they bu What if the new GM builds him a stronger roster?" How can you do that with no [ __ ] money, bro?
Come on, man.
Now, there's two interesting things that I saw right off the top, and maybe tomorrow I'll have some more stuff on this, but uh Spike Eskin's um reaction to this. I I want to I want to maybe react to this because um the Rights to Ricky Sanchez podcast, they've had Daryl my on the show before and I feel like and this is why you guys you guys never see me do interviews with like you know players or or bench players or coaches or GMs or you know some assistant coach or something like that. Like a lot of and I'm not talking trash on rights to Ricky Sanchez. I'm talking about like a lot of smaller podcasters and YouTubers and stuff, they would like they would like jump at the the chance to have somebody with a name on their show, right? But the reason I don't is because first of all, it does nothing for me at all. This show grows off of the people that watch the show.
The show grows off of the YouTube algorithm. And if people click on your show and watch it, it grows in the YouTube algorithm. Getting somebody with a name on the show or don't do it, it doesn't doesn't change anything. People don't know that. Uh smaller creators don't know that either. They think getting a big name on their show is going to make something. Anyway, I'm rambling. My point is the rights to Ricky Sanchez, they're not a small show at all. They're not a small creator.
It's a massive 76ers podcast. It's on it's on the the overall NBA podcast list on Apple Podcast. It's huge and I've been listening to it for years since the Sixers were in uh the rebuild. Um but they've had Daryl my on their podcast. I think what I wanted to say, it took me seven minutes to get to the point. What I wanted to say is that when podcasters and YouTubers and whoever has somebody on their show and they talk to them as a friend, then it just feels like they have to defend them like permanently forever, you know, and that's what this feels like to me. But I'll let you hear it if you haven't heard it. Let's listen.
>> The results have not been great. Uh that is that I would concede. And if you are going to hire or fire or keep him or not keep him based on the results firing him, I would certainly understand. I would keep Daryl my as president of basketball operations for the 76.
>> You're not being serious, Spike. There's There's no way you're being serious, bro. Because even if you like him, there's just no way you saw the last couple years and think that that's a good idea. There's no way, dude. Anyway, let's continue.
>> It doesn't look good and they are not in a great spot and they're not going to win a title next year and there's not an easy or quick way out of this. The Joel Embiid contract is a disaster. The Paul and George contract is a disaster. Maybe slightly less of a disaster than >> Yeah, he's the one that that did that.
>> Joel Embiid, but still a disaster. But here is the fact is that sometimes you make the right bet and it goes wrong.
We've all played blackjack. We know what we should do with blackjack. Sometimes you make the right bet and it goes wrong. Okay, let's let's let's take that comparison for a second because uh that's not a good comparison at all because Nick Nurse did not just take a bet. Uh Daryl my did not just take a bet.
He bet on a guy into his mid30s who has never been healthy. That's not betting at blackjack. That's maybe betting at blackjack uh with a blindfold on. That's maybe splitting kings. Okay, that's maybe splitting kings against a nine. All right, that that's taking a a chance way too far that you don't have to take.
Anyway, >> I think Daryl my made the right bet with Joel Embiid. The only real time to me to trade Joel Embiid and get value for him was after his MVP season.
>> Yes, >> I would not have traded the reigning MVP in the NBA at that time. I wouldn't have done it. They had one of the best players in basketball. He wasn't perfect, but they had one of the best players in basketball. the next time you trade him is after the knee injury. I look I I wouldn't have done that. I wouldn't have given up picks or whatever I would have done and he had to make the bet. He had to make the bet. Do I double down on Joel Embiid at that point and give him an extension and go get Paul George and all that sort of stuff or move on and do something else? Now, I want to remind you when you're thinking about the future of the Sixers at that moment, they did not have VJ Edgecom.
The only young player they had was Tyrese Maxi. So, it was take the small chance that it's going to work out with Embiid or roll the dice with Maxi. I don't think that's a title contender. I think >> Daryl my made the right bet and it went bad. I think he's drafted well. Ty >> signing Joel Embiid to a three-year extension that doesn't even kick in until 2026 is not a small chance.
>> Maxi was a good pick. BJ Edgecom was a good pick. if he had one year left on his contract and you were debating should we trade him on his expiring contract or should we play him on his on his team option and try to win a champion that's different signing him to three more years is not taking a chance though he traded him was a good pick I think he has made some good trades on the margins he hasn't been perfect I wouldn't say he's been >> what good trades has he made >> perfect I've certainly skewered Daryl for a move here and a move there. I don't think he's been perfect. But >> Ben Simmons trade for James Harden was terrible. Jared McCain trade was terrible. What what tra the releasing Isaiah Joe made no sense.
>> We're looking at the future and who who I would choose to try to get us out of this. I have seen him navigate this before. I saw him navigate it in Houston. They had a title contender with Yaoing and Tracy McGrady and that fell apart. And without tanking over the next three years, I don't even think he had a team under 500. He rebuilt that team into a title contender again with James Harden. Again, I I do not think he he has been perfect, but he made >> Let's call it what it is on that too, man. Let's call it what it is on that, too.
>> Daryl my got lucky with James Harden.
All right. You could see how good James Harden was off the bench for OKC. You could see that he was a three-level scorer. You could see that he was young, high energy. You could see that he had the potential to be a really good NBA player. But he nobody really knew James Harden was going to be a superstar like that. If that was the case, he would have been starting an OKC. If that was the case, OKC wouldn't have traded him.
Let's call that what it is, too. He got kind of lucky with how good James Harden actually became.
>> I think it would be foolish of me to say I supported the bets he made on Embiid.
I >> But also this you're talking about, you know, I've seen him navigate this before. I I think he's the guy that can get us out of this. You've seen him get you out of other people's mistakes.
You don't watch a GM completely tank a franchise like Daryl my did and then say, "Yeah, I think we should keep him to fix the [ __ ] disaster that he made." Come on, Spike.
That's stupid. That's not smart. There's no way you think that's and there's no way you think that from a business standpoint it would have been a good idea to tell the fan base Daryl my coming back. There's just no way you think that, bro. Now, this this take from uh Elliot Shore Parks is kind of interesting, too, man. Sixers GM job isn't that appealing.
Stuck with a head coach you didn't hire and two of the worst contracts in the NBA. Won't be easy to hire a great candidate.
Who wants to come in here, bro?
Who wants to come in here?
And who wants to take this job? Think about that. Who want what GM wants to take this job? Hey man, would you like to be in charge of a team that has two disaster contracts until 2029?
and uh the fan base wants you to do something magical right now to help them win in the playoffs, but you know you're not going to win in the playoffs because you're strapped to these two contracts of two guys that can't play more than 30 games a season and can't play more than four games straight in the playoff series. What GM's going to take that job? And then yeah, on top of that, if you're not firing Nick Nurse, what GM wants to come into a situation and doesn't even get to hire his own coach?
Don't forget the 76ers hired Doc Rivers before they hired Daryl my do everything backwards.
So now Nick Nurse is is still in there.
And let's not forget like the reason you want to fire the coach and let a GM hire their own coach is because the coach himself has an ego and a system and the way that he does things and Nick Nurse is clearly Nick Nurse clearly has an ego. we some would argue as large of an ego as Doc Rivers on the way that he does things and his stubbornness and his refusal to change the way that he does things. And now a new GM has to come in and expect Nick Nurse to be on board with changing the way things are done.
None of this [ __ ] none of this [ __ ] moves me.
Nothing changed. That's how I see it.
When I see a a GM come in and wave a magic wand and get the 76ers out of the purgatory that they're in, I'll throw a parade, but firing Daryl my did absolutely nothing. That's how I feel about it. And I know some people are saying it's a step in the right direction. Not if they're keeping Nick Nurse. And again, like Elliot Short Park said, who the what the [ __ ] GM wants to come in here and take this job anyway?
Nothing changed. The 76ers are a disaster and they will be a disaster until Joel Embiid's contract is over.
It's just facts. But uh if you were wondering what my thoughts are on the whole thing, there they are. Thank you for tuning in. Thank you for listening.
I'll see you soon,
