Teen Takeover in New Jersey Leads to Curfew and Raises Important Questions

[00:00:00]Police say six arrests were made in connection to the craziness and chaos here in Long Branch. And now the city has a stern warning for anybody who comes here with the intention of participating in disorder or violence that you will be arrested and prosecuted.

[00:00:19]>> The sounds and sights of chaos by the beachfront in Long Branch Tuesday night.

[00:00:24]>> It was like the WWE yesterday. People jumping and dancing on cars along with fights breaking out. Just some of the mayhem police say played out as several hundred teens and young adults descended onto the Pure Village area. Many of them by train.

[00:00:38]>> It was 95° out Tuesday. First nice day of the year and everyone comes here because it's the closest beach in the whole shore.

[00:00:45]>> I feel like it always happens down here.

[00:00:46]Long Branch is now like the prime spot.

[00:00:48]>> The craziness led to an emergency 8:00 p.m. curfew. And then all of a sudden the uh security for the resort came out and said that we had to get in the resort. They were locking it down. Then we got the Amber Alert on our phones that uh there was an imminent threat uh at Pure Village.

[00:01:04]>> 139 officers responded to the chaos along the boardwalk and surrounding streets, including 70 from other departments. Six people in all were arrested.

[00:01:14]>> So I feel like we should just stop the violence literally cuz everyone's with all of And as Memorial Day weekend kicks off, the city says beachgoers can expect a strong visible police presence with eyes also on social media where the takeovers are promoted.

[00:01:31]>> When will parents start taking responsibility for their kids? So, we have another teen takeover happening in New Jersey. They force them to do a curfew. But look who's in the forefront of all of this.

[00:01:43]You know, that's the reason why you see the um the the attorney out of Washington DC saying she's going to start holding parents accountable because what we starting to see now is that y'all parents don't care about y'all kids. And and I hate to say it, we see more and more what is it? Black kids. You know, at the end of the day, what I fear is that this summer is going to be crazy for teen takeovers because the reason why these kids are acting like this is because they ain't got nothing else to do, right? Right? So, they acting crazy during Memorial Day weekend. They act crazy during spring break. So, what do you think the summer is going to bring? These kids are out of school for three months. This is why I believe that kids shouldn't have a long uh summer break like this. But we have to start holding the parents accountable. There's no way that this should be cool. We have people sitting on cars. We have people twerking. We have putting on social media. It continually pushes the narrative that black people are dumb and they'll do anything for any type of entertainment or they'll do anything for any type of validation on social media. When will it stop? Like as a parent, I'm pretty sure you see your kids on social media acting like idiots. Do you not do anything?

[00:02:52]Do you not talk to them? Do you not spare the rod? What do you do? Because obviously right now you're not doing a dang thing. These kids right now have no guidance. These kids come from homes that are typically single parent or their parent is working because there's only one of them and then all they know is chaos. This will continue to be happening in the summer. Like I'm really scared because I really feel that they will not stop. But as a parent, I'm really asking this to a lot of parents.

[00:03:23]Do you guys not care about your kids?

[00:03:25]Because I don't want to see y'all crying when your kid is going to jail. I don't want to see you crying when you going to jail in a courthouse. I don't see I don't want to see none of y'all crying boohhooing this whole summer because you guys created this. If you can't have kids in a nuclear family, close your legs, women.

[00:03:45]A lot of y'all women putting yourself in this position. This is what y'all create. Yens and young hoes. Look at this. We have a combination of yens and young hoes partying in the middle of the street. They're broke, don't have no money, just out there acting ignorant.

[00:04:00]You know, the one thing I can tell you about broke people in their mindset, the broke people are the ones that act crazy, it's because they have nothing else to do. They can't pay for that hotel and enjoy a good time. They can't pay for that restaurant. So, they're just broke. So, the only thing that is free is acting like an idiot. I don't want to see y'all crying in the courthouse. I really don't. I really don't want to see y'all crying. But, that's what's going to happen. A lot of y'all gonna go to jail. I don't think y'all see that, but I see it. I see it clear as day. A lot of you guys are gonna go go to jail. A lot of y'all gonna be crying in that courthouse and wondering what happened. This is the society that you guys have created. What are you guys going to do to change it?

[00:04:42]Like seriously, what are you guys going to do to change it? Especially in the black community. Are you guys going to continue continually let ourselves look like this and let ourselves behave like this? We have to start demeaning this type of behavior.

[00:04:57]The black people are always talking about we don't get respect. Nobody respects us.

[00:05:03]We don't respect ourselves.

[00:05:06]We can't police ourselves. Nobody make needs to make a change on the outside for us. The change comes from within.

[00:05:15]Are we going to put these kids up? Are we going to put these kids in jail? Are we going to say this is not right? What are we going to do? Or are we gonna continue to high-five these kids and give them a thumbs up on social media?

[00:05:30]The reason why these kids act crazy is because of it's because of us. It's because of you negroes. It ain't because of me. It's because of you nwords. You nwords praise this behavior. These nwords say, "Yeah, they just being independent. They just living their life." No, they're the ones that's messing up our hardworking uh African-Americans reputation. There's two types of black people always talk about it.

[00:05:53]>> What could stop it? Um, >> to be honest, nothing. Social media took over.

[00:05:57]>> Police in other short towns say they are aware of social media posts promoting these takeovers and popup parties ahead of the holiday weekend places like Wildwood, for example, trying to get ahead of any issues by implementing a 10 p.m. curfew for minors as well as a 1:00 a.m. closure of the boardwalk. Reporting in Long Branch. You know, at the end of the day, in order to prevent this stuff from happening, we have to hold ourselves accountable for the idiots in our community.

[00:06:30]Social media is one of those funny things. People, and we can't say these people are dumb because they're smart enough to coordinate these things, put these things together. They're just putting that energy into something that's stupid. So, we have to start policing our own. The police doesn't need to help us. The administration doesn't need to help us. It starts at home with the parents.

[00:06:50]Get that belt. Let your kids know. Don't act stupid. See what it is. A lot of y'all parents want to be cool with your kids. A lot of y'all parents is by themselves. So, they don't want to be seen as the bad parent. They want to be seen as the cool parent. And your kids is taking advantage of you. You cool with your kids acting like an idiot and putting it on social media. There's a reason why a lot of y'all kids can't get jobs because they do research on your kids and they see, "Oh, that's such and such." Yeah, we not hiring them.

[00:07:19]You guys are so like not smart. You do this idiot stuff, but then you put it on tape. I just don't get it. I I really don't get it. But it's very upsetting because it makes everybody in the in the culture look bad. You may not think this affects you, but it does. The stereotype is there. See, the stereotype is never something that's just made up. It's proven. It's shown these kids should be in the classroom.

[00:07:45]This is the reason why I don't like the long summer breaks. They should be in the classroom learning, getting a job, learning a trade, putting them outside.

[00:07:54]You got all this work. Go outside and build something, do something with your life. But it starts at home. It starts at what you guys create. If we don't take advantage, if we don't take up and police this, what you're going to see is a record number of parents and young kids, especially young black kids, going to jail. And then you guys are going to be boohooing, but nobody will care about y'all because we told y'all, this is the warning to a lot of parents of these kids who are doing these team takeovers.
