[00:00:03]The miso language also known as dulian or lucay is a tonal language that belongs to the central cookichin branch of the sinotibetan language family. It is the official language of Misoram estates in northeastern India and is also spoken by Miso communities in Manipur, southern Assam, especially in the Barak Valley, Eastern Tripura as well as parts of Myanmar, notably Chinates and Bangladesh, mainly in the Chittagong hill tracks. The total number of speakers is estimated at around 900,000 to a million. Mizo is written in the Roman script which was introduced and standardized by Christian missionaries in the late 19th century leading to a high literacy rates. The language has a strong oral tradition including proverbs, folktales, hymns and songs. Despite multiple dialects, the dulian dialect is used as the standardized form in education, government and media. Ralte is an endangered indigenous language of northeast India belonging to the sinotibetan language family within the Tibetto Burman branch and the Kukichin or Zo group. It is traditionally associated with the Rali people of Mizorum especially areas north and east of Isol and historically around Chai.

[00:01:21]Today, Rala is believed to be actively used mainly by older adults, while younger generations overwhelmingly shift to miso, the dominant regional language used in education, administration, church, and media. Rala is not taught in schools and lacks strong institutional support, which has accelerated language shift. Linguistically, it is closely related to other cookie chin languages and is parts of the brother zo continuum spoken across parts of India and Myanmar.
