[00:00:01]Hello everybody. My name is Kenneth and welcome back to my YouTube channel.

[00:00:05]Today we're going to be checking out the official lyric video for Pablo's new song Assad. Um, at the time of this recording there is no uh official English translations. However, saving us once again um [clears throat] as she did with Betsa. Um, Sally Bali PH Sarah has um created some unofficial translations for us. Um, and so I'm really really grateful to her for doing that. Um, obviously I always check out like new music and stuff from Pablo and the other guys. Um, but I I'll be honest, it can sometimes feel a little uh disconnected when I don't know exactly what's going on or like a rough idea of what's going on. Um, so hopefully, um, I'm sure it will, but, hopefully, um, the translations will, uh, help keep me in the loop of what's going on, uh, and feel a little bit more connected to the song. Um, pause warning, as always, I am a pauser.

[00:01:08]Um, so if that's not for you, that's totally okay. Um, I am autistic. I often pause to process my thoughts. If that's, um, if you don't gel with that, that's absolutely fine. Um, but this is your pause warning. Um, yeah, we're just going to dive right in. In fact, I had to put the um the um the subtitles all the way up and I'm so And as I did it, I was like, I'm getting old. [laughter] Okay, let's go. Let's do this.

[00:02:22]You know what? I'm just going to we're just going to go with Sarah's um [laughter] we're going to do cuz she's put a lot of work into these these translations. So, we're we're going to do we're going to do the video with her translations.

[00:02:59]>> [music] [music] >> So if this if this is um as a song, if this is about um moving forward, it's interesting that we start off almost with a tableau kind of sequence here.

[00:03:29]Um, everything seems kind of frozen in time. Um, his mouth's escape. Um, well, time's moving on, but like it's almost like he's frozen. Um, so like again, his mouth's escape. Um, things are happening and passing him by. Um, but he's kind of stuck in the same place. It's It's really um interesting. Um because obviously hearing this and obviously having heard um Pablo's other music that he's made for his solo stuff is very interesting um that he still has moments like this where he's um still kind of feeling stuck in himself, feeling like he maybe isn't in the right place and things like that. Um, it's very interesting. Also, I have seen um some kind of like behind the scenes of this because again, Sarah was actually where this was taking place. I'm not sure where where it was taking place, but um she was actually there, which is really cool. And got to see see Pablo live. Um so cool. So cool. Um I really like how it sounds so far. Um I think he doing the the kind of the jazzy bluesesque kind of styling of the piano accompaniment definitely makes sense. Um the genre is known for like you being used for um expressing that kind of um struggle or um difficulty in in someone's life. So I like that.

[00:05:20]>> Ah, I'm trying to pause. Don't I need to reverse something? Reference Filipino superstition. Turn clothing inside out to confuse spirits. Disarranting. Oh, that's really clever. See, we wouldn't have got this with with the normal translations. I would have appreciated the normal translations, but we wouldn't have got this like extra information.

[00:05:39]Um, so you know, as I said, we're sticking we're sticking with Sarah.

[00:05:43][laughter] Um, that's really interesting though.

[00:05:46]Um, so like I guess here he's talking kind of about um fate, supernatural kind of forces I guess on his life. So if he reverses his clothes, if he confuses them in that kind of way of the um the Filipinos um Filipino superstition, maybe then maybe um his fortunes his his luck will change because they won't be able to um follow him or something. Maybe I also have to go back cuz um the um my arrow keys don't work here. Um that's really interesting.

[00:06:48]Oh, I love that. Sorry, I'm going gonna go back. Um, I love I love that note there and then into the the the fade out of the accompaniment. I really like that. It really gave um his his voice weight there. Um, it's very interesting.

[00:07:04]He says like I don't want to blame myself. Um, and so yeah, there's there's um a transference of um his kind of decision making there to this higher power to these higher powers. Um, which is interesting. Um, [clears throat] it's not it's not a um a theme that we've um hang on my words. It's a theme we have seen before um in in Pablo's music. It's interesting. Um there still is that feeling uh running through this. Um what what was the lyric I was going to come back to? Um uh there's a lyric. It's really hard with this. Um here I'm in no rush. There's this there's this um when you think about like the the lyrics in the beginning, it's very interesting. He you can see uh if if if it's not what it what I was saying earlier, you can see that like kind of um relaxed vibe to Pablo here.

[00:08:07]Um you know, he's uh he wants um things to change. uh he doesn't want to blame himself, but um he isn't um he hasn't he isn't trying to be forceful. He's trying to um go go with the flow to an extent. It feels like um he also says I will be accepted. Um I'm not really sure what that means. Um if anyone has any insight onto that, please let me know. Um, I'm really liking this though.

[00:08:46][singing] >> Oh, okay. So, sorry. It was following on. Even if I'm accept even if even though I know it'll be difficult, I'll still be excited. Okay. So, it's almost like he's saying it'll all all work out. I'm sorry. This is why I paused because it took me a little took me a little minute there.

[00:09:45]I really like that.

[00:09:48]It's I I'm So, if you guys know me, um you guys know that I'm not overly a fan of like repetition in songs. Like there's a lot there's lots of songs nowadays that have like repetitive um sections in them or they're based around a repetitive word or something like that. I really like it here. Uh mainly because it makes so much sense thematically. Yes, it's um like it sounds sounds really nice as an earworm, but the lyrical content moving forward, though not immediately tomorrow, it fits so perfectly thematically with that.

[00:10:25]Like, yeah, we're moving forward, but you know, we're staying right here for now. You know, everything's going to pass us by. Um and not in a negative way necessarily, um but like we're we're we're going to let everything pass.

[00:10:36]Everything move on. Um it's almost like when um like if you're going on holiday or something and like it's holiday season so everyone's moving around so you decide to wait for everyone to go first and then you go first um and then you go after um um kind of to maybe appreciate things more or take your time or you know not have to worry about the stress of being in is it feels like a similar kind of thing like just taking that um that journey um at your own pace rather than being like, "Oh my god, everyone's everyone's there. We've got to go together." Um yeah, very interesting. I do I do like it though.

Oh, this is Okay, I've noted this. This This video player doesn't like seeking. Um, that was really um I think maybe comical little line there about 7 to 7. If there's another seven, it'll be something. I'm so sorry. I can't It won't let me go back. Like the earliest Don't Let Me Go Back is is all the way back here. [laughter] Um, but I I I think that was like maybe a comical thing like 777. Um, I don't know if there's um a Filipino um uh reference there of anything to do with sevens. Um I do apologize. Um but yeah um there is also kind of that sad thing of like um the repet the repetition of going um and um you know going to work clocking in coming home going to work clocking in.

[00:12:41]Um that's only made sadder by the fact that you could agree you could be like okay yeah it could be seven days you could be doing it every single day. Um, I don't know if that's necessarily um an intended reading of the of that lyric, but there definitely feels to be that.

[00:12:58]Um, yeah, I want to see if my button will No. Okay, my button's not going to work. [sighs and gasps] Um, I do wish that I could move if anyone knows how to how to move captions on this. Um, that would be really really Is it seriously because of like how big I made it? Nope.

[00:13:34]That was That was a nice growl. That was a nice growl. So, it seems here actually, never mind, it's not necessarily negative as I thought earlier. It's almost like we go through those um kind of monotonous, tedious things to come home and have the the the fish with the I'm assuming it's like a a a beer or something. Um it might not be. I'm so sorry if it's not, but that's what I'm that's what I'm kind of thinking maybe.

[00:14:00]Um or something like that. Um but yeah, it sounds like there's it's all there's that balance there. Yes, there's the monotony, but then there's something good to come home to.

[00:14:27][music] [music] >> [music] >> I think what I really like as well as this is a pre chorus is not only you've got the the the rising chord chord progression almost like a he's ascending almost giving you um the musical indic indication of like be inspired be empowered by this um but also the way that drum beat come um comes in and moves up with the with that and then again before before the accompaniment drops out um and it's just Pablo's vocals um bridging the two sections of the pre chorus and the chorus um even that you know brings even that drum beat gives its intensity and then it builds up to a peak and then um fits the rhythm just fits perfectly um for when it cuts out. Um but al again all through that time you're feeling um there's there is some kind of um inspiration there. There is some kind of p empowerment there. Um [clears throat] I really really like this. This is this is really really good.

[00:15:49][music] I'm going back that that that riff like I it's it's ironic that riff is in this section because that was so like that that that vocal phrase was such a movement in itself completely contrasting everything else that's going on in like this section. Um, it almost feels like there's that little I'm going to say the character of Pablo here. The character of Pablo. There's almost that little p that little bit of push back there um against like um cuz obviously like throughout the song like we've got this um idea that um the spirits are kind of and or something supernatural or a higher power is is guiding Pablo where to go. But there the character of Pablo does still have agency. And so it's almost like it's almost like when um you've got stuff to do but you do something else instead if that makes sense but in musical form. Does anyone else get that get that kind of idea? Like you've you've got like um digit to do or um the vacuuming to do but instead like I'm going to watch series blah blah blah series blah blah blah. You you know what I mean? Um so and and then later on you're kind of like oh crud. I should have done that. That's what it makes me think of. I don't know if that's any like if that is um anything um but that's just what it felt like with the the contrast there with his vocal run versus the lyrical and the thematic nature of the song.

[00:18:06]Oh, I'm going back because I want to hear that again. Um, I love that. So, it is literally just saying like, you know, this isn't where I'm supposed to be right now, but where it's where I'm going eventually. Um, that kind of blind faith, that blind trust.

[00:18:23]um depending on like who you talk to might like some people might like belittle it but then he kind of goes it's me right like you know have faith in me if you don't have it's almost like saying if you don't have faith in these higher powers if you don't have faith in destiny that's okay but have faith in me I know what I'm doing I know where I'm going I really like that I think I said I was going to go back and then I didn't go back we're going to blame the player I'm blaming everything on the fact that I can't click everything because of these captions >> [laughter] >> Um um but no, I really want to hear um this part again, but that high note as well in that last part.

[00:19:06]Amazing. I feel like this is the kind of song that could simultaneously be played at like a big stadium with like everyone go um having their phones out or like um some kind of light stick or something.

[00:19:20]Um, but at the same time it also could be a really intimate like almost like campfire song that you could like um or like a lounge song um where um it's just like a small group of people and Pablo and and the band kind of like how it was in in in this performance cuz again I have seen um from Sarah's video um how it was how it was um and it started raining.

[00:20:11]>> [music] >> I wanted to pause. I wanted to pause.

[00:20:17]But but that Yeah.

[00:20:20]Ah, that's so good. Oh my god. It's almost like with this I'm assuming last chorus. I don't know if it's going to be last chorus, but I'm assuming because we're getting close to the end. Um but if it is last course I am um he's really if it is last course he is really like almost like bringing this to church with this um with this last chorus from like the runs to just everything else. It just feels like yeah like a real like certainly like a communal kind of setting if not like a church kind of thing.

[00:21:23]>> [sighs] >> That was really cool. I really liked how that high note though went into a little bit of a growl at the end there. Oop, sorry. It was a bit [screaming] >> Yeah, I can't do the I can't growl, so that's why you're getting the sound at the end.

[00:21:48]But oh, that was really that was really cool. I really really like this.

[00:21:55]Um, first foremost, thank you Sarah for your translations. Uh, I really appreciate it. I will learn how to use this platform [laughter] so that I can move move these things out of the way. Um, [laughter] but hopefully you guys found it funny me me um having tech blenders with that.

[00:22:17]Um, I really really like it. Um, I'll I'll be honest. When um obviously I paused it and I was like, "Oh, this might be the last chorus." kind of thing. Um, when I said that, I I noticed the time go and I was like, "There's no way this has been this amount of time."

[00:22:38]um because it just it didn't feel like um any time, which I guess thematic thematically it works, but it didn't feel like we'd been um listening to the song for for like 3 minutes, let alone coming up to 413.

[00:22:56]Um I really really like I love the message. Um in the beginning, I was a little kind of a little bit slow on the outtake. Um my apologies. Um, but no, I like the message. Taking things at your own pace. Um, following your own destiny rather than something else. Um, something someone else has set out for you or trying to rush something that's not ready. Um, um, or that you feel is not ready, you know, depending on how you look at that.

[00:23:26]Um, yeah, I really really liked it. Um, I need to go and rewatch Sarah's video after this. um because obviously she she was she was there for the filming of this. Um, I did, um, watch it, but I didn't I tried. Obviously, I didn't understand what was going on lyrically.

[00:23:46]Um, because obviously I didn't have we don't have captions in in real life. Um, I know the AI ones don't count.

[00:23:54]Um, but, um, I I I want to go and rewatch that. Um, cuz it's nice seeing it like this. And obviously um Sarah and I obviously you guys you guys were watching this conversation. No, we we were talking on Twitter about um the fact that they were filming this for something. Um but um I think I want to see it from Sarah's perspective again. Um just cuz I don't know just seeing her like well seeing how she filmed it in the moment. Um I don't know something. This is something that's kind of what I was saying earlier about that intimacy and um of the of of it. Um yeah. Um but no, I really really really like this. Um, and um, [snorts] yeah, I'm I'm looking forward to what what what is next, you know, what what um I don't know if this is going to be like part of an EP, an album, if it's just standalone. Um, but um I'm excited to see um yeah, I love at the end as well that you can see the rain. Like that's that's one thing I will say about like the video for all it's got like the filter on it and like the little like um scratchy scratch like a almost like a photograph. It's almost like a sorry tangent cuz I just had this thought.

[00:25:22]It's almost like the way that the filter is. It's almost designed to be watched later um like in a few years like almost like a time capsule cuz it's given this like um old like scratched kind of photo look um which is really really creative.

[00:25:40]Um cuz I was going to say earlier like I was thinking like with the way the song was I was like um didn't didn't really get that um intimate vibe even though that's kind of how the song feels to me.

[00:25:51]I kind of said that earlier. Um, but no, now thinking about it, that makes a lot more sense for why it's filmed like that and like edited like that. Um, but yeah.
