[PSO2:NGS] SEGA Super Game CancelledAdded:
Good morning everyone. Today we're going to be talking about Sega's Super Game being cancelled.
So, the news of Sega Super Game being cancelled was dropped yesterday. They tried to do it quietly. However, obviously, uh people did not take it very well. So, over here is an article that was originally written in Japanese.
We did have to use a translator in order to get everything in English. By the way, I love how there's NTE ads right here. Hopefully you guys have pulled for your Htorii. Um, but anyway, back to the article. Sega cancels large-scale online game concept Super Game with sales of 100 billion yen in conjunction with the review of the live service strategy.
Sega Sammy Holdings represented its financial results for the fiscal year ending in March 2026 on May 12th. This clearly states that the super game concept has been cancelled. Sega Sammy HD which owns Sega was announced this time in the financial results materials where they explained review of the GAS strategy in the fiscal year ending on March 2026. Sonic Rumble party did not perform well. Collaboration with Roio Entertainment which was acquired in 2023 did not create economic value and there were delays with the release of several titles etc were mentioned. It was also revealed that they have decided to cancel the super game concept. For those who are confused like me and we don't really know who the heck Roio Entertainment is, this is the uh studio that made Angry Birds. So, thank you for chat for actually uh educating me on that because I I had no idea what the hell Roio Entertainment was. Super Game is a concept to create large-scale online global title, which was once Sega's medium priority to long-term strategy. It was announced in May 2021 as part of a 5-year plan to strengthen active IPs and revive old IPs with the aim of creating it at around March 2026 and lifetime sales would be 100 billion yen or at least that was what they were projecting in March 2022. Details were also revealed including that it would be an online AAA title using Unreal Engine 5. However, in the announcement of financial results in the second quarter of the fiscal year ending in March 2026, when asked about the progress of the development of Super Game, they were informed that the company was reviewing its cumulative sales of 100 billion yen and is planned to create an online community in accordance with the current market environment. In this announcement, it was revealed that the development of the super game has been officially discontinued.
As a review of the pillars to the medium to long-term growth, more than 100 people, some staff who were involved in the development of free-to-play games have already been transferred to development teams for one-time titles with the main IP. Furthermore, while Roio Entertainment continued its efforts towards global operation titles, it'll first switch to a policy of reconstructing the company. So, once the news of this super game being cancelled, naturally, Twitter was on fire. A lot of the Japanese players were very very vocal. You could pretty much split the JP community into like two different takes. One take was, "Wow, you just screwed NGS for 5 years by taking all this resources to invest into your super game. And your super game is absolutely garbage. You have nothing to show for it. You wasted a ton of money, a ton of time, and what was NGS sacrificed for?"
This is one opinion that a lot of Japanese players have. is just like, okay, you know, NGS kind of sacrificed itself for this super game, but there's nothing to show for it. The other take that a lot of Japanese players have is, hey, okay, so your super game didn't work out. So, are we going to get back all of these resources into NGS? Are we going to be reinvesting all of the manpower, all the development team, all of that extra money that you kind of wasted? Uh, is that coming back into NGS? And are we going to be reviving NGS and finally making it good again? And the funny thing is a lot of base game JP players aren't actually too phased by this because they've told me that back in episode 4 when the game released in Japan um a similar thing happened.
Basically the game was doing really really well and then in episode 5 they decided to cut the development team by like half for whatever reason. who knows why Sega would do this. And so episode 5 was kind of like really bad or very like mediocre and everyone's just kind of like what the hell happened and then Sega panicked and then reinvested into the base game again and then you know kind of saved it with episode 6. The funny thing over here is for me personally because I just experienced it on the global side where we had like everything from the base game all in one year. So for me episode 6 was like peak.
It was like the absolute best of the best. However, according to a lot of JP veteran players, they saw episode 6 as like recycled content, which was actually really eye opening for me. Um, because I thought episode 6 was absolutely masterpiece. It was beautiful. Um, yet some JP veterans were like, "Yeah, it was all right." So, you know, different perspectives, I guess, different perspectives, different timeline, and different ways of experiencing the game. So, yeah, that's really eye opening for me. But nevertheless, a lot of people are panicking over, oh, Super Game got cancelled. There there's a meme going on on the JP side where it's like, oh yeah, the Super Game was PSO3. And so a lot of people are like, oh yeah, you know, kill off NGS for PSO3. We're more than happy for that. And now that the Super Game has been cancelled. They're like, wait, so NGS died for nothing. We're not even getting PSO 3. Like, what's going on?
But, you know, that's just a meme there.
There's no actual information about PSO3 being made. Now, what does this all mean for NGS? Personally, I really don't think it's going to affect NGS that much at all. At least negatively, I don't think it's going to affect it at all.
However, positively, there is a chance because of this phrase right here that they're basically reinvesting all of those resources into existing games. And so, there is a possibility where they will be bringing back people back into the NGS team. If we look at the road map of the first half of 2026, you can see over here that they have been putting a lot more effort under the combat tab because uh you know this is kind of the quote unquote content. So, you know, in June to July, we are getting the level cap raise to 120 new enemies, new large boss enemies, new tech arts customizations finally. And then in August to September, again, new enemies, EX style level cap rays. And then in October, we're going to get new tech arts customization, new item systems, new rarity equipments, as well as new enemies. And then, of course, every four months, we are getting new story as well. So, you know, you can clearly see that this year is a lot better than last year where we actually didn't get new story for an entire year. Actually, it was actually more than an entire year, but we just got a bunch of mini episodes as well as just random things just happening. It's like, oh yeah, you know, Masquerade's now here. Oh, yeah, Ultra Realm is now here. There's a whole bunch of just like unexplained things that just happened. Um, so you know, 2026 definitely looking a little bit better and hopefully with the increase of manpower, potentially with the increase of manpower and potentially with the increase of budget, uh, NGS will be able to recover at least get it back to a functioning game instead of just a barebones game. That is what I would like to see. Maybe one day we'll be able to experience that episode 6 wowess uh that I experienced when that was introduced because um yeah that was really really fun. I I miss those days.
So the TLDDR is nobody really knows what's going to happen. We just know that the super game has been cancelled and they're just reallocating their resources back into existing IPs. And um that's pretty much it. And whether this will affect NGS positively or negatively, I really doubt it's going to affect it negatively. We're We're pretty much at the bottom of the barrel. The only thing that can actually affect this game negatively anymore is like if we get the end of service announcement now. I swear to God if we get that announcement, people are going to get so mad at me and they're going to be like, "Oo, you jinxed the game. It's because of you that it's end of servers. How could you mention it? It's jinxed."
That's pretty much the only thing that can kill this game at this point. NGS has lived through so many things, so many other games. They've outlasted through the super game as well. It's It's actually becoming a meme. Like, you know, NGS just can't die, guys. It It legitimately just can die. It's kind of crazy. But, you know, if we were to think positively, I would like to see the game, you know, pick up some more traction, get a little bit more support, and hopefully reach and fulfill all of its potential because this game has a lot of potential. They just need the money as well as the manpower and they'll be able to achieve great things.
Special thanks to all the members for supporting the channel. It really means a lot to me. Thank you again. But yeah, that's all I wanted to cover in today's video. Hopefully you guys enjoyed it. If you did, I would appreciate a like and a subscribe. And I'll see you guys in my next video. Bye.
