Reconciling our Budget | Cash Budgeting | Expenses | New Products
Added:Hi everyone, it's Budget with Mama Bear.
Thanks for stopping by my channel. Happy Friday. Today is the day where we get into some part of our budget and we kind of I do this right in front of you so you can see, you know, all the things that goes into the cash budgeting system. And today we're gonna be talking about expense trackers. So, we haven't really talked too much about this um on Fridays. So, I figured, you know what?
Let's go ahead and do this because we've had to spend some money lately. And I wanted to show you how you can use the cash unstuffing sheet that's part of the end of the month process um add-on in my budget um planner. Okay. So, welcome everybody.
I also told you one more thing that um I do have a couple more things that I'm adding to my shop. Um they just popped in my head. And then one thing I've been wanting to do, I just wasn't ready to do it last week and so it is all set and ready to go as well. So, I will be showing you those along the way. Okay.
So, we have our budget planner, we have our cash on stuffing um sheet, and we also have our cash tray. So, we have to reconcile every day. What I do is I go in my budget planner and I go to my expense section, which is in my June um divider.
And let me move this out of the way for right now.
Oh, my printer decided to wake up. I don't know why. Um, and I have my category sheet here, which has all my categories that I track my expenses and the color that I use for my highlighters. Then what I do is I break it apart into credit cards, if I use a credit card or if I used cash or debit.
So I I some people keep it all in one, but I like to separate it. So I make sure that I'm aware of how much is going on those credit cards. Um because there's some things I just don't like if I buy something online, I don't use my debit. All right. So then I go ahead and get out my markers. So let me grab those out with the categories on them.
Okay, these are all them. I, you know, everyone I'm hopefully by now knows that this is the budget um mom method, budget by paycheck where you do use the highlighter method. Um I do like that because I'm a visual person and it really helps me. So each one has I made on my label maker the category that matches over here. So that is where what we are using. And then um let me pour those other ones out. And we'll just set these over here.
I'll just set them aside. You saw them.
They're markers.
And then what I'll do is I will go into highlighting.
And then after we do the highlighting, we're going to go ahead and reconcile some of this because I need to get it back to the bank so I can make those payments or if I use my debit card, that needs to get put back in there. And if I don't have enough, and this is why I'm not waiting till the end of the month, if I don't have enough, then I've got to look at my budgeting today and make sure that I um figure that out, if that makes sense. Okay. So, let's go ahead and take a look at the credit card one since it's sitting here. Now, I do have some over here because we had some expenses and I have not highlighted them. I waited till you guys all were here. All right, so we've got some business expenses and we've got a health refund. I bought something that I needed for health and then um you know what? I'm just going to leave them over here.
This is the first time I'm doing this, I think, on on camera. So, I'm like, "Okay, how do I do this?" So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to highlight that yellow, but I have a $9.32.
I got a refund of $7.41. So, when I go to reconcile, it's really only going to be a couple dollars here. Okay. But I have to highlight it so I know which category it goes with. All right.
Business is pink. So, we'll get these. I had to get some things on Amazon. I did shop on Teimu and I did get an Aaron Condrin some things. Um, let's see.
And then we had one more over here.
And um, this was something I got on Etsy for my business. Okay. All right. So, that is good there. Everything's highlighted. Now, I'm gonna go over to my cash and debit. Now, the stuff that I paid for in cash, I am good. So, I I have another sheet, but that one's already highlighted. So, we're going to highlight this one, and we'll see what was going on. So, let me kind of zoom in a little so you can see my writing a little easier. So, we did use the debit, and we did have to write a check at one point. Um, and so these were all these all need to be highlighted. I do want you to see because, you know, I'm straight up honest with you. I realize that yes, I put balance there, but um, that doesn't work for me. So, in the future, I think I'm going to leave this blank. Some people like to put a total of like their their checking account here. I don't do that in here. Um, and so that's where that balance is. For me, it's where did it come from? Like, did I pay cash, debit, or um check?
Okay, so let's grab the Let's see. Where's my household? Okay, the purple household. So, we um the hubby did have to get some household items at Walmart. It was a lot um but we needed it. And then he also um I'm going to show you what this goes into.
I wrote beauty here because he did go to um sports clips and get a haircut. I'm going to put it under miscellaneous.
Okay. Because I don't highlight all of those in their own specific color. We'll just put that as a miscellaneous. But I wrote beauty so I know what envelope to take it out of. Um, and then we had to go to Lowe's again.
This is the one I'm going to I'm going to have to show you where we're going to have to pull this out of. So, on that one, that one is also a miscellaneous cuz I don't have a yard category. Okay.
And then I had two health. So, I went to the chiropractor. Um, I'm finding that the chiropractor is helping me more than physical therapy, but I'm trying to do both just to make sure I'm covering everything. Their machine wasn't working, so I had to write a check. So, I did two appointments at the chiropractor. I feel like this is really helping me a lot. Um, so it's worth the money, but as you see, we've got some health bill, some medical bills we've got to pay for. All right. So, now that I've got everything highlighted, and the reason why I highlight, for those of you who don't know, is at the end of the month, I do put my categories um I list out my categories, and I total the amount um that I spent in that category for the month. I'm not reconciling at that time, even less if I need to. Um, but what I do is, okay, next month, if I'm spending a ton on medical, when I do my cash stuffing, that envelope needs to get a lot more than some of the other ones that I don't necessarily need right away, if that makes sense. So, let me grab another cup of my little coffee here. I'm using the Bloom Cup today.
It's very early on Friday, but I needed to get this done.
And then I'm going to show you how we're going to reconcile and take this money back to the bank. So, let's put our highlighters away.
I know I'm still zoomed in, so let's zoom back out a little bit. Oops, that's a little too much. There we go. That should be good. We'll see. We'll put our highlighters away in here.
And then let's take a pause and I'm going to show you what I added to my Etsy shop. Excuse you, Hank. Okay, so the first thing that I have I've been wanting to put out there and like I said, I wasn't finished with it, but this is a big year for America and um the United States. We are at 250 years this Fourth of July. So, I did make some special cutouts for that. We've got three that you get cuz with my cutouts, you get all three of them.
And these are them right here. So, we've got the America 250 years scratch off.
We have the American flag. I just This one is probably my favorite one.
And then we have the Freedom Friends Fireworks Family Fourth of July. I just love that one, too. And you have a special big bonus in the middle on this one with the little sparkler. All right.
So, these are some extra cutouts that I put in my shop. Um, that they're under the cutout section.
Uh, scratch off cutouts. I believe that's what it says if you're looking for these. And again, you get all three of them when you order it. All right.
So, that's one.
And then I again, sometimes I just get in the mood.
I'm a big beach person. I'm going to show you the dashboard. Um, so you know what this is?
This one is called Beach Babe Savings.
And as you know, my Hank is a Yorkie.
Um, and these are his little beach babes.
I just love these little Yorkys. So, I made a beach babe savings. And with this, it is a laminated challenge. Um, you do get your choice of an A5 or here's the A6 design or A6. Okay. And they've got the cute little girls on there. All right. Hanging at the beach having their cocktails or lemonade, whatever you want to call it. All right.
So, that's the dashboards.
And then what I decided to do because it's been wellreceived is and there's so many of these cuties. I made another card set.
Okay, so you get six cards with all the different girls on the beach.
The beach babes. All right, let me zoom in so you can see these guys a little bit better there. Hopefully there's not too much of a glare. All right, so let's see. Okay. So, there's our girls. You get, like I said, a choice of an A5 or an A6. And then we also have the 250 cutout. All right. So, that is in my shop right now while you're watching this. Um, and go check them out. All right. So, those are both physical products that it will get shipped to you. So, that is um USA only. Okay. All right. Let's get back into reconciling.
Okay, first thing I need to do is grab my book and our sheet. Okay, so we're going to go to this one here. And the first thing, like this is really looming over my head, is we're going to be looking at health.
Okay. So, at health, what I want to do is um and this is my medical scing fund. Okay. All right. Let's add up and see how much we've spent on medical.
All right. So, we have $419.
So, and 60.
So, we're going to say 420 needs to go back to the bank. Okay. All right. Then the next one we want to do is um so then what I'm going to do is I'm going to check these off.
All right. Let me go back over here.
Boom. Boom. And boom. This one is hard because it's a light green and that one is eating out.
Okay, so that is a big one. And then um let's go ahead and write um Okay, so beauty is the purchase the sinking fun. Oh, wait. I did that wrong.
Is beauty.
Um let's see.
We went and spent money in the yard. The scing fund is the yard. Okay. And these are both miscellaneous.
That's what I should have put over here.
That's okay. All right. Again, it's first time doing it with you guys. All right. So, on that one, we did 34 and we'll just say 183. I'm going to go ahead and round them. So, 34 + 1 183.
Sorry.
So 34 comes from beauty and 183 comes from yard. Okay.
All right. So then I'll check those off.
And then household. We went to Walmart.
I'll get this one right. Okay. And then um on Walmart, this comes out of the household.
And this was 8161.
So, we'll say 82 cuz I don't put change in my envelopes.
Okay. So, let's cross that off. All right. And then the last thing, let's see.
Do I have anything else? I did that one already. Okay. Everything else I'm just going to cross it off because these were cash or I used a gift card. Um Oh, there's one right there. Okay. So, this is Ace Hardware and this was the hubby for his for his shopping and he used the debit card. So, that one was $27.
Okay. So, now we can cross that off. So, this is why I have to kind of look through. So, anything over here that says cash, we're good cuz I've already used the cash to spend it. All right.
So, that's what we're going to worry about right now. Um, let's go back to the credit card.
Okay. So, now we're on credit card. I have a big chunk in for business, but that's okay. But the big one I want to look at is this one for Amazon.
Okay. So, we went on Amazon and this was under health, but I'm going to put a little asterisk because I do have an Amazon envelope which we're probably going to have to pull from. And let's see. So, 932US 741.
So, $2 basically because I did refund the one of the things that I got cuz I did not um like it. Okay. my business stuff I will take out um on some another way.
Okay, so let's go back up here because this is for the whole month. So we've got another Amazon and let's see that came out of household and that is 42.
Um, we also had we had to buy water filters for our refrigerator and that so that's household and that was 101 because I bought two of them.
Um, so we don't have that problem again.
All right. Um, let's see. Oh, this was a gift. So, we did go to Kohl's and we got a gift and I already reconciled that. So, I'm just going to cross that off because I just remembered I did that already with you. All right, there's a business one.
So, then um we had another Amazon and this is another household. Now, I'm showing you this household one on purpose because I was under the impression I was not going to need any extra household stuff, and it is what it is. Okay, so here's a big one right here. Another Amazon.
Um, I don't know if I want to call it household, but that's pretty much what it is.
And I'm going to put a little star here and I'll tell you in a minute. So, this one was $383.
All right. So, and I will cross that off. All right. Everything else has been we're good to go cuz it's either it's business. Okay. So, I keep saying okay.
So, it's cuz I'm processing and thinking with this one here, the Amazon um that was for my son. That is how I have to ship him things where he's at, where he's stationed.
And this mama bear, if my son says, "Mom, I need these things."
um, and he's overseas and that's something he's going to need, I'm going to send it to him, right? We'll figure it out. And so I did ship it. What's cool is that I could ship it through Amazon, right?
I thought that was amazing. I'm like, "Oh my goodness." Okay. All right. So, now we're going to get into our um scing funds binders.
And we are going to see if we can check off these bank sections. So, the first one I want to take a look at is medical cuz I'm curious about this. I think we have enough, but let's take a look. So, let's go into our medical and we need to take $420 out of here and take it back to the bank. So, we've got 1 2 3 20 40 60 84 and 20.
We have it. Oh, this feels so good. I've been beefing this up knowing that we were going to be needing it. All right, so that leaves us some money. We still have money, but we still have to So, let me show you this.
Okay. So, we had 5:35.
So, cuz this is the other important thing. So, today is the 19th, we're going to say reconcile minus 420.
So, 535 minus 420. So, now I've got 115.
Because I might look at this and go, "Oh, yeah. I've got a lot in here. I'm good." But technically 115 is going to go super fast cuz if you saw my appointments, it they add up. So we're going to make sure that we're still stuffing this one regularly.
All right. So then because we had it, we're going to check bank.
All right. Let's see if there's any I don't think there's any. Oh, I'm going to keep this close because we might have to use yard maintenance money.
So, let's get into the revolving binder.
Let's go to yard.
All right. So, in yard we had $183.
So, let's see what I have in here. I have 30.
So, I need $153.
So, I'm going to get into my yard maintenance because I do have money in yard. Now, I had $100 in the bank. So, we're going to use that.
So, now I need to pull 53.
Now, I probably don't have any ones. So, let's see. We've got I don't want to take one of these 50s either. So, let's go ahead and take 50. And that should cover. We have a little bit of a buffer in there, so we'll be okay.
All right. So based on this, we're going to be okay.
All right.
So then we can move this aside.
And now our yard has zero again.
And so we're at zero. So I just want to put that on there. I'll fill the rest of it out later.
All right. But I can check off this yard that we did.
Okay. So, let's see. We didn't um did not have that. The big one is right here.
This one I'm a little worried about. So, first things first, let's add up and see how much we spent in household.
All right, there's one. $82 uh 42 101 and 12.
And here's the big one. $383.
So $620.
Okay, let's see what we have in here. 20 40 60 70 80 90 105.
So okay. So now I need $515.
So let's take this.
This is at zero. But what I have in here is I have Amazon.
Let's take what's in Amazon and take this out. So 20 35 36 37 38.
Okay. Now I need 477.
Now some of you are going, "Oh, you're emptying all your envelopes." No, I'm not. I'm doing what I had what I intended to do is holding this money because if it sat in the bank, who knows where it'd be. Okay, we're going to take money from Walmart. 20.
Okay, I need 457.
I have a miscellaneous envelope. Let's go here.
We're going to take cuz we have we've been saving miscellaneous. 20 40 55 60 1 2 3 and 4. All right. 64.
So 393. So now we're back to this one big giant expense that I was not expecting. But that makes me feel good because like typically that wouldn't have been spent, right? So he may need his own envelope. That's why I'm thinking here because I'm gonna get another call that says, "Mom, I need this thing these things." And I'm going to give it to him. So 3.93 is what we owe on household. So what I'm going to do here is we're going to take it to zero and then we're going to put 393.
So when we go and do our cash stuffing, we are going to make sure that we are looking at our budget to refund this.
Okay, we have to pay this back. It's like I took a a loan off, you know, that I need to pay back. All right. So, but we can So, this one we cannot do. So, we're going to go ahead and check all the other ones off.
All right.
I think I got them all now. Okay. All right. So, that was a big one. That was a big one. All right. I did have a gift, but we already reconciled that.
Okay. So, this binder is done.
All righty. Okay. So, let's go ahead and see what else I can do. Okay. We've got beauty, hubby. Oh, there was another little health one. $2.
Okay, I think I did them all. So, let's go ahead and cross that off. I just forgot to check it. And gift. Okay, we already did that one. Let me check that off.
Okay, perfect. So, the last one I need to pull out is my personal binder.
And let's see where we're at here.
Okay. So, for beauty, let's take money out of here.
We owe 34. So, here's 30.
And let's see. So, let's see.
If I did 40, I owe myself $6. So, let's take $6 back.
There we go.
All right.
So, we'll pop that in here and take our 40 back and cross this off. Perfect. Now, the hubby spent $27. So, let's go to his bind his envelope and see what he has in here. He's got 10.
So, let's see. So, we can only fund $10.
So, he owes 17. Okay. So, here's what I'm going to do.
I'm going to go to Hobbies and see if I have it here.
I do. So, let's go ahead and take the 20 and we'll take $3 back.
And that will work.
All right. So, that can go in here. And now we can cross this one off.
There we go.
All right. So, the big one here is this one. And I'm going to put a little star here so I know that my son needs his own envelope.
And that's okay because my other son is technically getting one too for his wedding. So we are good to go. So let's go ahead and see how much we have going back to the bank.
And then what I'd like to hear from you you guys is do you find this beneficial? Like do you reconcile? Do you know? Are you reconciling? Are you making sure that all these envelopes that you're doing, you're pulling out of them when you need to? When you've used your card or your debit or old school, you wrote a check.
All right. So, let's see.
I'm going to count this up for you. And then we've got our prompt money here.
So, we've got 100.
Well, we'll add that in later. Okay. So 1 2 3 20 40 60 84 20 40 60 85 20 40 60 86 20 40 60 80 So 680 690 700 10 20 30 40 50 65 75 85 86 87 88 So $788 in cash. I'm just putting it on there so I don't forget. So, in cash, I have 788 already in the bank cuz I have to track that that I'm using that 100 is 100. Okay. So, let's make sure that that's going to cover everything. Okay. It took me a second. I had to kind of go back through and double check everything, but I want to show you what I did here. and where we're going to get this. So, what I did was I totaled up the amount of ones that um we knew we were going to be paying for. So, it was $93.
Now, with this 383 that I was not expecting, the total is $1,286.
When I counted the money over here, it was $888.
So, I owed a total of um $398.
So, we had the 383 and then 15 that I wasn't able to fund with my syncing funds. So, we have to come up with $398.
And where am I going to get that?
Because I'm not going to just go, "Oh, well, I didn't have it." We've already spent that money. So, what do I have in here that I can use?
You guys guess it right here. And that's what this is for.
So, what we're going to be doing is we have $600 in the bank right now plus other money in here. We need basically $400. So, we're going to go ahead and do $600US 398.
So, now we only have and um I'll just go ahead and cross this off in the bank 202.
Okay? Because we're going to use some of this money that's already sitting there to fund us. And that's why we have this is for emergencies.
So, because we did that, let's write it on our sheet. So, when I look back at this later, I'm going to be like, "Oh, okay."
So, we're going to say funded by emergency fund.
Okay. Yay. I'm going to put a smiley face because thank god we had it, right?
So, based on that, I am all checked off.
And now I can go like this. Boom. They are all paid for. Okay. I have to put this money back in the bank. Um, I will go and check and see which one goes towards credit cards, which one just stays in there because it um goes back into our checking account. All right, so I hope that helped you. I know it's a little messy, but you know what? That's how finances get is you have to do the work. You have to dive in there and do the work and figure it out. And I wanted you to see that with me because not everything is so simply done and all of that. No, it's messy. It It's messy. But the end result is a smiley face.
Okay. Um, let me know what you think um, in the comments. Let me know how you're doing with your reconciling. Are you doing that? Was this helpful helpful?
What else do you need from me? Um, what are some things that you want to hear about? All right, y'all. I hope you have a blessed day. And as always, I double love you.
