[00:00:00]I hid some color under this powder and then made a river of rainbow flow through my plate. Here's how to do it. I took some milk, poured it into a bowl, dropped in four different food grade colors inside, covered it with a nice layer of baby powder until the color disappeared completely. Then I dropped some dish soap right into the center of the bowl. At first, I wasn't sure if it was working, but I put a time lapse on it for 30 minutes, and when I watched it back, I felt like a wizard. The powder started to slowly crack open and rivers of color started flowing through. They kept moving and changing shape the longer I left it until all the baby powder was gone. Since I scanned some milk, found this experiment, and started tracking it in my app, I learned that milk contains fats. So, the second dish soap touches the milk, it races towards the fats and breaks the surface tension.

[00:00:51]And it's the food coloring that makes the invisible currents visible. The main ingredient in baby powder called talc gets lifted off the surface and the color underneath it just explodes out.
