Successful sports franchise rebuilding requires patience and resisting the urge to trade high-value draft picks for short-term gains, as young players need time to develop under the right coaching staff to reach their full potential.

This Is EXACTLY What We Needed... | Daily Bulls News & RumorsAdded:
Hey, what's up, everybody? Welcome back to Bulls' Latest. I'm Jefferson, and if you haven't already, do me a favor, hit that like and subscribe button and drop your thoughts down below because today we got a few things to talk about that I feel like are all connected, okay? The Bulls are getting closer to hiring their next head coach. We keep hearing trade scenarios about the number four pick, and somehow every other day, I still see people talking about moving on from Josh Giddey. The more I think about all of it, the more it comes down to one question. Are we finally ready to let this thing develop? Because for years, it just felt like the Bulls were trying to make shortcuts every season.
Every season, it felt like a race to get somewhere without really having any sort of destination, you know? Now, it feels like there's an actual plan in place, and the funny thing is, some people already want to skip to the end of this movie. You know, we got to let it play out, you know? We we finally going to have a young core. We have a a top four pick. We we have a new decision-maker, right, in Bryson Graham, who keeps talking about development, and yet every conversation turns into who should we trade? I I don't know, man. I don't know. I I At some point, we got to let this see let this thing um let it grow a little bit, you know? Josh Giddey didn't look the same, remember, at the end of last year as he did in the beginning. Same with Matas, you know, he didn't look the same. You know, that's that's what development is, you know?
It's going to be a little bit messy for a while and until it isn't, you know?
So, today I want to talk about the uh the coaching search and the number four pick, why I think the Bulls should resist the temptation to skip steps, and of course, why this is going to be the one of the most important off seasons we've had in Bulls' history. So, let's get into it, shall we? Um look, I'm I'm going to be honest about something.
If you asked me 6 months ago who I wanted to be as the next Bulls head coach, I wouldn't have had a great answer. I don't think any of us really really would, you know? None of us weren't really studying, you know, assistant coaches or associate coach. We don't We don't know, you know? But the more I look at these these finalists, the the more I I think the Bulls are actually asking the right questions, you know?
They're not trying to just to win a press conference here. They're actually I feel like the question is we got to ask like can can you develop players?
That's why I keep hearing names like Johnny Bryant. He's interesting, right?
He's He's built a reputation around player development. He He's worked with guys like Donovan Mitchell. He's helped grow young players, you know? So, if the Bulls are about to add another high-level young talent at the number four, we need that. We need that type of coach that's going to come in here and really get the best out of these young players.
And then you look at dudes like Shawn Sweeney and every time someone talks about him, you hear the same things.
Defense, culture, and work ethic, right?
And then when you hear Giannis praise him and the likes of Kevin Garnett, you know, you're going to start paying attention to that cuz that's not just hype, you know? That's that's respect.
And then you hear you have Chris Quinn, who you learn he's been under Erik Spoelstra for for years, you know? You're He's probably picking up a few things, you know? The Heat didn't accidentally develop players, you know? They They stayed relevant all these year all these years. And I And I like I like I like the direction we're finally headed, you know? You know what good teams look like. You know how the Spurs, you know who they are, you know?
You know who the the Cavs are, the Heat, like you you can see what they're trying to do, and that's what the Bulls have been searching for, you know? It's It's so different. Like I I don't know. I don't know if there's a if if you're a bad option out there, you know? And my we all have our preferences, but the bigger story is that the Bulls appear to be looking for teachers, right? Teachers, not just like celebrities, you know, names. Teachers.
And if you're trying to build something around Giddey, Mathurin, and that that number four, man, that that pick that that has to matter. If we're going to really take this whatever this is to the next level, the next step, we we need to bring in a coach here that's going to set the ground and the standards and really try to get the best We again, we don't know what we really have in in Mathurin or Giddey. We have an idea, but have have they been playing the best of their abilities under this last regime?
I'm going to say no.
Like we could just see it. Like we know the star potential in Mathurin he has.
Like this guy's going to be a an All-Star, in my opinion, and I we just got to be patient with it, and we'll we'll see what happens, you know, it's it's just exciting from here as a Bulls fan for the first time. You know, that's why I keep coming back to the to the things like just stop overthinking it, you know? I I keep seeing these uh like Oklahoma City trade Thunder scenario picks. And listen, I know the Thunder have a ton of picks, you know, they have the young talent, they still have flexibility, but the one thing they also have is something that we don't have is that star. We don't have an SGA, you know?
That's the part people are keep skipping over. OKC can afford to play these games, you know, because they already found their guy. The Bulls are still looking for that dude. So, why would you trade away one of your best chances to find him in this in this in this draft?
You know, this is the number four pick.
There're only three dudes going before him. You know, that's not the same as going number 12 or 15, you know? And And that's the thing, every everybody should have like I see the trade packages getting put out there, and it's fun at the end of the day, but you got to you got to really really think about it and and I I think for the first time Bulls fans are actually starting to uh to see that. But we let's we got the fourth overall pick, man. You already have the opportunity. If someone offers you something like ridiculous for a trade, of course you're going to listen.
I'm not but I'm not I can't just trade this pick just to collect more lottery tickets, you know, this draft is too too too talented, you know, at the top.
That's why teams want to move up, right?
That's why teams want to get up in this draft. And that's if that's any like indication, maybe we we have to pump the brakes a little bit here, you know, and that's why I think Bryson Graham is more likely to he's going to make that pick instead of trade it. So, that's what it comes out to. Also, we got to have the conversation about Giddey, too, because why why are why are people trying to to move on so quick?
He's he's still young. You know, he's improving. He's he flirts with triple-doubles every single game, you know, he's hungry. He has beautiful long hair. That probably that part's probably not that important, but you know, I'm going to try anything. Let's just let the dude develop a little bit, you know, let him let him develop. It's important, but we'll we'll see. We're we're going to see, right? All we could do is just watch and wait. If we get the right coaching here, guys, I'm telling you things can change really quickly here with the right the right people getting the right Everybody has that that intense like if you're a if you're an NBA player, you're you're already the best of the best, right?
But if you come you grab a coach that can get that little extra out of you, man, you know, we're seeing we we've seen it. We've seen it on other teams.
We've seen it here in Chicago.
You know, I keep going back to the to the Bears, baby. You know, what Ben Johnson's doing over there. I wish we could find someone like that and develop him here in Chicago for the Bulls, but I we don't know who that guy is yet.
All we could do is just is keep watching like like we all are, right?
And that's why I just don't want to keep waste I don't want to waste the assets either.
You know, like there's there's we have the 15th pick, the fourth pick, 38th, we have a few extra second round picks. That's why Bryson Graham that's where he can get creative a little bit right there. Like let's not get crazy.
Let's not trade the fourth pick. If he wants to get a little creative at the end of the day and you know, trade some second round picks, that's fine. If there's a player sitting in in the 20s that you absolutely love, then fine.
Package something that makes sense. Just don't start taking on things you don't really need. You know, at some point you have to just let it play out. So, the Bulls don't need like they don't need someone that's going to come here whenever the coach is and just really just do the same NBA.
Like again, we're we're heading in a different direction. It's more modern than anything and I I really I really want to see what they could do. Like I don't want to get too cute here. You know, that fourth pick is so important. The coach if there we have a really great chance to reshape this franchise right now. It's it doesn't guarantee a success, right? But at least it has some sort of direction.
You know, I'd rather follow a direction than have a team just like spin its wheels again for for how long they've been doing it. So, at the end of the day I feel like the Bulls fans are are starting to change a little bit, okay?
Like in a good way. Not not everybody, obviously, but there are still there's still half of the people out there that want to trade everything. Every morning I go on Twitter or whatever on my and and I and I see it. Why am I talking in this other accent right now? I don't know, [clears throat] but I see the I see the conversations people are having with themselves.
And it's I get it as a fan. You want you want that star here. We we don't we haven't had that superstar here yet since the D Rose. And if there's someone out there, I think I was watching forgot what it was. I think it was Carmelo Anthony, I want to say, and he he they brought up Derrick Rose in a way where they were talking about one of the dudes here in the draft is compared to him, A Cuff, right? And I a lot of people have been saying it, not just him. So, when you think of that, if we if we can take a big swing, and he's there at number four, obviously we're we're going to grab him because he seems like he has the most upside after really digging.
He has the most star potential besides, of course, I think Caleb Wilson. The other two dudes, they're going to be fine. Cameron Boozer's probably going to have a 20-year career, you know? And that's the safe pick, and that's okay if we land him, too. This is we're This is a good problem to have.
That's a good problem to have right now.
So, let's just be patient as fans and just trust the process, and I Things are changing here, and it's it could change good or it could change bad.
But we're fans at the end of the day.
We're going to keep showing up. We're still going to give the Bulls our money, right? I'm still going to keep going to the games, especially next year. I'm already excited.
Um but yeah, let me know your your thoughts below, guys. What do you think we should do with the pick? Should we keep it? Should we trade up to get the number one pick even though like if there's not that big of a difference between the top four.
Unless you really break it down, yeah, there's a little bit, but not enough to trade your whole team. Except if you want to trade Patrick Williams. That would be a different conversation. Guys, I'm sorry. [laughter] This has been another episode of Bulls Latest. Please uh drop those comments and turn on the notifications because we're dropping Bulls content daily.
