Acupuncture point stimulation, such as at the Hegu point, works through mechanotransduction, where precise needle stimulation sends signals through peripheral nerves directly to the central nervous system, promoting healing and well-being.

China Medical University is one of the world's leading institutions, ranking in the top 300 globally and second in Taiwan.
Founded in 1958, CMU is home to over 1,000 dedicated faculty members, thousands of domestic students, and a vibrant community of international students from all over the globe.
My name is Tayyaba Kiran, and I am a student here at CMU. I chose to study in Taiwan because of its rich culture and academic excellence.
CMU was my absolute first choice because of its global reputation and its commitment to offering a truly international learning environment. One of the greatest advantages of studying here is the wide selection of courses taught entirely in English.
For my studies, I am deeply passionate about acupuncture science. Through our EMI courses, we dive deep into both the traditional roots and the modern physiological mechanisms of acupuncture, learning how point stimulation interacts with the nervous system to promote healing and well-being. Studying here is not just about absorbing information, it's about actively engaging with cutting-edge medical perspectives.
For me, diving into acupuncture science through our English-taught courses has been a transformative experience.
We don't just study ancient maps, we analyze modern concepts like mechanotransduction, examining how precise needle stimulation at points like Hegu sends signals through peripheral nerves straight to the central nervous system.
Being able to research, discuss, and debate these complex cross-disciplinary mechanisms entirely in English has pushed my academic communication skills to a whole new level. Beyond the immense academic growth, the most valuable part of my time here has been the community.
Collaborative debates and shared discoveries have connected me with brilliant minds from diverse backgrounds, turning peers into lifelong friends. I am incredibly grateful for this environment that empower us to become global medical professionals.
