There were no clocks, no engine noises, only the fading smell of last night's fire and the quiet sounds of the land slowly waking up.
In this land, footprints can tell you many things.
We discovered tracks from a herd of antelope near the low grasslands to the east.
A deep hoof print usually means the animal was moving quickly.
Damp soil around the tracks showed it had passed through not long ago.
The older hunters in the tribe can even tell whether an animal is calm or alert just by the distance between [music] its steps.
>> An antelope [music] appeared ahead of us in the early sunlight.
Its coat reflected pale golden colors that blended almost perfectly into the Savannah landscape.
It lifted its head several times to test the wind, completely unaware that we have been tracking it for a long time.

No one celebrated too loudly.
The Hadzabe have always believed that nature does not welcome arrogance.
But that morning was not over yet.
As we prepared to return, the forest suddenly changed in a way that is difficult to explain.
The vervet monkeys in the trees began making short, rapid warning calls.
Far ahead, several birds suddenly burst from the branches and disappeared into silence.
A leopard.

They move with almost no sound at all.
Many people spend their entire lives in East Africa without ever seeing a leopard up close.
The most frightening thing about them is not their speed, but their silence.

Following instincts passed down through generations, our group quickly worked together to keep everyone safe.
After that brief moment of tension, the forest returned to silence once again.
