[00:00:38]Hello and welcome back to Locked on NBA Daily. I'm Wes Goldberg. That's Matt Moore. That's Hayes. We have a ton to get to today. LeBron James answered questions about his future. The Cavs even their series against the Pistons.

[00:00:48]And we got a ruling on Elgate. Let's start with this report from Shams, who reported uh right after we got done with our show yesterday, guys, that the Bucks are quote unquote open for business on Giannis trade calls. Now, this is one of the most definitive signs that we've gotten that this thing is just over uh Giannis in Milwaukee. And now we have to think of what teams make the most sense for Giannis in terms of trade destinations. Here's more from Locked on Bucks. And look, I know that you guys are going to call me out on this clip, so I'm going to get ahead of it now. Uh, yes, I did choose this clip for a specific reason. Let's see if you guys can uh figure out what it is.

[00:01:22]>> And for any possible Giannis destination, I think the ones that are in that win now, got to have it type of window are the ones that the offers are probably going to be the the ones that you're going to entertain the most.

[00:01:36]Because also the other part of it is if it's a franchise decision of, hey Giannis, we just going we just going to make this move. we're going to trade you because we feel we're ready to start the rebuild in Milwaukee, right?

[00:01:48]>> Giannis does still have some leverage here of like, well, I'm not going to sign my extension here. Like, I want to be somewhere where I think I can compete at. So, we know Giannis wants to compete for championships. So, some of the options based on who will get traded out, it's like that doesn't even make too much sense anymore. But there are other ones like if you start in Miami and you have a Bama bio Giannis had the Kubo front court and that's where you're starting with and it's like now how do we continue to build out around that?

[00:02:14]>> It's it's interesting. I don't know if it's championship.

[00:02:17]>> Well, if you get Giannis and another guy >> Yeah.

[00:02:20]>> you're going to have and again as we have seen the middle class is dead.

[00:02:24]You're going to have guys that are willing to go there for the minimum. I mean the >> I don't know how that heat got that heat talk got into that clip, guys. I I have no idea how that got in there. Uh but bigger picture, Matt, how can the Bucks square now that they're taking calls, what they need in those trades, plus what Giannis is going to want on his new team? Because as they pointed out in that clip over at Locked on Bucks, Giannis does have some leverage here because he can, you know, basically signal, I will or I won't sign an extension with whatever team trades for him.

[00:02:59]>> Third and fourth teams. That's the way that you do this is you go for third and fourth teams is that you involve so I think there's a there's a structure that probably involves Houston and Boston where everybody can kind of win like I think there's a win-win for for everybody where the Rockets could get Jaylen Brown the Celtics could get Jiannisan and Kmpo. Um, I'm countering West with the Celtics getting Giannis here, >> right? The heat in this three team >> and being able to throw, you know, get then get in a fourth team and then assets move around like a good opportunity, a good structure for this is probably the Dwight Howard trade. Uh, for those of you that are old enough to remember, like the Nuggets got Andre Igodala, which worked out great until he left them for the Warriors and gave them the intel on how to what was going on in that series. And then uh the Sixers got Andrew Bayham which you're like could have been great had he not exploded.

[00:04:02]There's all these kind of mechanisms that you can do but that to me is the structure that you need here is you need probably four teams with assets going to Milwaukee. The fourth team gets like we just want an upgrade. We have expendable assets. We send those we send out what we have. We want an upgrade to a significant position and you build off of that. That to me is how this deal can get done. There have been two significant four team trades in the NBA over the last three years. Not to say that that can't happen. I think a player the the gravity of Giannis, it may warrant that, but to me, I think that's that like I I don't personally think Boston, even if they move Jaylen Brown, they'll be they'll be in the Giannis sweep stakes. I think this comes down to two teams. And not even because Wes is my boy and the host of the show. It's the Golden State Warriors. It's the Miami Heat. That's it. The Golden State Warriors having the 11th overall pick in this draft and not long-term money to be able to match in Jimmy Butler could be enticing. The Miami Heat having several picks and pick swaps they can throw into it as well as a young talent like Khil where and even a piece like Tyler Herro that could be rerouted to a third team or something like that could could help get that done. To me, in my just my personal opinion, those are the two teams that's the most likely destinations for Giannis in this trade.

[00:05:15]I think Milwaukee is going to look back for a young blue chipper, whether that comes via a draft pick in this draft and then future draft picks and matching salary that's not long-term and bad. I think those are the things that Milwaukee Bucks are looking for in this trade. I think those are the two teams most likely to give them what they need.

[00:05:31]>> So, not just because um I think that you shouldn't leave your franchise up to 18 year olds, as I've reminded Hayes over and over and over again, but also I talked to Camille last night on locked on NBA game night. Check it out. It's a great episode. Um, and one of the things that she said when she was talking about like, well, look, the the lottery changes are going to significantly, you can't be sure. You can trade for a high value pick and it just may not be good.

[00:05:54]Like if you if you trade with somebody and you're like, "Oh, the Warriors are going to be terrible, so we'll go trade with them." Well, if the lottery reforms go through and the bottom four have worse odds than 59, what are you getting? There's less certainty in the value of the pick that you're getting.

[00:06:10]is the 11th pick. That's what you're That's like the the Woo. I know we traded Giannis, but we got the 11th pick. Is that Is that what we're going for here?

[00:06:21]>> Yeah. With them already having the the 10th overall pick, having the 11th overall pick in a significant deep draft. The Milwaukee Bucks are a team that has to draft. They are they have never been a big free agent destination, not even over Giannis being there. Yes, for that team specifically. And that your runway is completely starting over.

[00:06:37]We can talk about how much teenagers change things for teams that are trying to win. Now, that's not where the Milwaukee Bucks would be. So, yes, for a team like the Milwaukee Bucks that would have to completely restart their whole entire process, yes, 11th pick in this draft would be significant because that's probably better than what they're getting anywhere else.

[00:06:53]>> I would be good there. Just personally, I'd be like I'm >> I think you muted yourself, Matt.

[00:07:01]>> The 10th, 11th and another pick.

[00:07:03]>> Yeah, future picks for sure. Like I'm not saying Yeah. If you were able to package those together, then they could move up to five with the Clippers, which is what they reportedly interested in yesterday. I personally would still be like, let me get this straight. I'm giving you Giannis and Kmpo and I'm getting Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler who can't play, Moses Moody, who can't play, and the 11, I'd be good. Personally, I'd be good. But to each their own.

[00:07:29]>> Um, I do think that the timing of this report is interesting, right? because obviously Milwaukee wanted to see the results of this draft lottery. That indicates at least to me that they're trying to get into this lottery uh with one of these teams. Obvious like case point they already have the 10th pick in this draft, but to get another pick, I think in this draft, which also might be a side effect of these new tanking uh resolutions, right? Like, hey, we don't have any idea what these future picks might be. They could be from bad teams and that actually might be worse from us. Let's just get the thing that we know. Okay, we could get the 11th pick in this draft. We can get the 13th pick in the draft. We could trade with Atlanta and get the eighth pick in this draft. Like whatever team they end up trading for, at least we know what that pick is going to be and we could start this rebuild now. Um, are we sure that the Bucks shouldn't not to do like not to be pro Celtics here? Like if they actually want Giannis, but like why wouldn't they just take Jaylen Brown?

[00:08:17]>> Oh, offer Jaylen Brown. That's the best player that they're going to get in any deal. Jaylen Brown you to be bad. you might as well just be okay because that's now even you know you don't have all of your own picks but like what's the point of trying to go all the way and be bad anymore >> because I just don't think you can even be like Jaylen if you add Jaylen Brown to this roster you're still I don't know you might be in heat zone you might be as good as the Heat >> but to my point like that would get you to that would get you a guy to build around and those picks might be better anyway in the years that Milwaukee actually does have their picks Like with these new tanking things, like those picks actually might be better than if you were to just tank. So would you rather have Jaylen Brown and potential top five picks or no Jaylen Brown and be picking in the middle? I think the Clippers are are just so interesting here just from the perspective of let's say that that they come out and they're like, "Hey, we're voiding Kawhai's contract."

[00:09:10]>> Right.

[00:09:11]>> Right.

[00:09:13]It clears your cap space. So you could be like, "Hey, we'll trade the five for Giannis." And then go hit whoever in free agency. There's not a great class out there, but add some guys in free agency. Mathan, Garland, his old friend Brook Lopez, some pretty good young pieces.

[00:09:30]It's not bad. It's not a bad pivot by the Clippers. Do we I mean, that's that's an interesting landing spot. And obviously, like you said, the Clippers now they they get into this lottery with that fifth pick coming over from Indiana. I I do think the timing of this is really interesting. And uh it probably it sounds like we'll probably have some sort of resolution on this in the next 6 weeks. You know, basically by the time we get to the NBA draft, it sounds like Milwaukee wants to move pretty quickly on this. Um coming up, LeBron James said he hasn't made a decision on whether he'll keep playing, but may have given away what he really wants to do when he spoke with reporters after last night's game. [00:13:08]The Thunder completed their sweep of the Lakers after the game and LeBron J and after the game, LeBron was asked about his future and whether he plans to play another season. He told reporters, quote, I don't know what the future holds for me. End quote. But here is the real question. What is real?

[00:13:25]>> Hayes, does anybody actually think LeBron is going to retire this year?

[00:13:29]There probably is some I can't say I can never say never but LeBron's not like if you think LeBron is going to retire on a sweep and this quiet like LeBron does is very wear story as like Matt has pointed out the entirety of the season. He's not going to just ride off quietly into the sunset after a sweep. It's no way that happened.

[00:13:49]So, the Athletic Post series article dropped last night and Dan Wy and Sam Amik reported in there that people close sources close to LeBron maintain that the idea of him wanting a farewell tour is something people have put on him that it's not necessarily what he wants and he might just retire.

[00:14:08]I just to me this is about there's two things that LeBron has shaped in the course of his career. He's he's cared about the story and he's cared about the money and he's cared about championships for sure, but he's already got those.

[00:14:21]And to me, the story is finishing in Cleveland, is finishing the story with the kid from Ohio that got drafted by the Cavs, won them their first championship. That's where it ends. The money is that there is just so much merchandise to be sold. And if I'm Nike, I am throwing so much money at him for him to do one tour for that that they could do this. The other thing I will say beyond like the more cynical views of this, I hope he doesn't retire because fans deserve the opportunity to send him off.

[00:14:56]He has meant a lot to this generation of basketball fans, good or bad. If you hated him, you grew to respect him. if you loved him, you went through all the trials and tribulations. Like I think it is important for for the basketball community to have the chance to show their appreciation and respect for the King on his way out.

[00:15:19]I agree, man. We might We're talking about one of the two greatest players of all time. Some people put him as the greatest player of all time. I I don't think you could be corny enough when we talk about this stuff, right? Like let's do the farewell tour. This is history, right? Like if we do this, we watch this game to see all of this, to experience all of this. And we're going to miss guys like LeBron and Steph and all these guys when they're gone. And I think it's okay to celebrate it in the moment. One quote that also like the quote that's going around is I don't know what the future holds for me. The quote that I really looked at, there's a couple of them, but the one I want to talk about here is I've done it all. I've seen it all. Just being able to compete and trying to win championships. I think that's a motivating factor. If you want to talk about a motive for LeBron James to keep playing, he's still talking about championships. And that gets me thinking. I'm like, he's not gonna just go anywhere. He's not gonna go to Cleveland unless he thinks he actually has a chance to win at a high level there. Um, and you know, you could talk Cleveland has a good roster. He could be maybe be the missing piece there. So, I do think it's interesting. Um, meanwhile, the Cavs used a 23 to0 run in the third quarter to breeze past the Pistons and even the series at 2-2 thanks to a huge second half from Donovan Mitchell. [00:16:27]>> And then Donovan Mitchell comes out as a different guy in the second half. He played an incredible final 24 minutes of basketball and he is the biggest reason why the Cavs were able to get a 112 to 103 win because Donovan Mitchell in the second half was the best that he has ever been. He had 39 points in those final 24 minutes. To put that into perspective, one, that is the most points that any player in any half has scored in a playoff game in NBA history.

[00:16:57]That's how good it was.

[00:17:01]So, man, I know you guys talked about this game over in game night. You could also argue that as good as Donovan Mitchell and the Cavs were, the Pistons had to have that game after the Cavs shot 34% from three. At home, the Pistons shot 44% from three. They got big games from role players like Carris Levert, Tobias Harris, and Paul Reed on the road. The real question, guys.

[00:17:23]>> What is real?

[00:17:24]>> Did the Pistons have to get that game in order to win this series, Matt?

[00:17:28]>> No, I think they're fine. I expected them to go 2-2. Um, the Pistons were always going to like I've been on this that the Pistons shooting was always going to be a problem. They have offensive limitations, you know, and they were in a really good position to steal that game last night up at the half and it looked pretty bleak. And then Donovan Mitchell just went supernova and it was awesome and it was incredible. But also I I think the C the Pistons are still in a really good position here because they're still relying so much on James Harden who continues to just not look like the kind of guy that you trade for. Um I think they're going to win five and I think they're going to take six in Cleveland.

[00:17:59]I actually don't think this goes seven.

[00:18:00]I think the Pistons take the next two and we're out of here in six games.

[00:18:04]>> Yeah, you can't count out the Pistons.

[00:18:05]Like I mean it's it's it's it's disadvantage to be in this situation.

[00:18:09]And of course they you wanted to get that win last night, but I don't think you can count them out and say that they needed to win that game to win this series. They'll gain the momentum back.

[00:18:16]I think they'll come out very hard in the next game and and they'll they'll wake up. We saw them down worse than this in the last series, so I'm not going to count them out yet.

[00:18:25]>> Um yeah, I've openly flip-flopped on this series. I have no strong indication of where I think I'm now. I think the Cavs are going to win it because the Cavs won last night. That's kind of how I'm writing this one. Uh Victor Webbinyama avoids suspension for his elbow on Nas Reed that resulted in his ejection in game four, but he will be available tonight for game five. Hayes, the real question, >> what is real?

[00:18:48]>> Is this the right decision by the NBA or should have should Webby did Webby deserve to be suspended for a full game?

[00:18:54]>> Uh no, this is the right decision by the NBA. like like I mean he did it was intent behind it but like the the playoffs are here and you don't want a playoff uh series decided by something like that in my opinion. I can understand why they don't I'm surprised he didn't find or something but I don't think that they made the wrong decision by not not suspending one be in this game.

[00:19:13]>> I disagree. I think I think he should have been should have been uh spend a game. It was premeditated. Okay. It wasn't like he spent like an entire time out, but he looked to find where Nas was and then swung an elbow at his head.

[00:19:27]Like he checked to see where he was. And we have seen there are precedents for this. Like Dwight Howard once got tagged, brought Dwight Howard twice in one episode. Dwight Howard once got tagged with a suspension because he swung a Samuel Don Bear on a rebound. like grabbed a rebound in traffic, swung his elbow, made contact with the head, and and got bounced for a game. He wasn't He didn't even check to see where he was.

[00:19:54]He just like swung his elbow and hit him and and the league was like, "You can't hit people in the in the head." And now we're like, "Well, you could hit people in the head if you're Victor Wmanyama.

[00:20:01]That's Come on. Come on. No." Like, I'm sorry. And like all the talk I am I can't Spurs fans have gotten soft while they've been out of the playoffs.

[00:20:10]There's talk about he's being so it's so physical on him. They are just mugging him. Welcome to the playoffs. What are you talking about? Like, oh, Nas grabbed his thigh. What? Okay, it's a rebound attempt. The stuff goes on. You don't get to elbow someone in the face.

[00:20:30]>> Yeah, >> he should have been bounced for a game.

[00:20:31]The league not doing this was inc. It is a bad look for Adam Silva right there. I do wonder how much it matters, if at all, that it happened so early in the game that he basically already missed a full game in this series. I I just wonder if that was any sort of deciding factor in the NBA's decision-making process here. But Matt, I'm with you.

[00:20:51]Like I didn't I didn't like hearing it from Embiid. I don't like hearing it from Shaq. I don't like hearing it from Dwight Howard. Like, oh, that people are so physical with us. They beat us. Like, hey dude, you're seven foot between seven feet tall and 7 foot five. A lot of players in the NBA would kill to be as tall as you. You're blessed with that, but also with the territory you're gonna you gota try to stop. You're 7 foot five, WBY. We got to try to do something. And if it means grabbing your thigh every once in a while, that's what it's gonna that's what it's gonna that's what it's going to be. Uh we're going to dive into what should be an awesome game five between the Spurs and the Timberwolves after this.

[00:23:17]Hayes, this has the potential to be uh one of one of the best games of this postseason. Obviously, a lot at stake for both of these teams. What are you watching for?

[00:23:28]man. Uh how how if if this one gets a bit testy early, I think that's the thing you have to look at. Like they're going to try to play physical as they, you know, have in their in their wins and this could now start being a series that starts getting very chippy very early on and I tell you what, that's playoff basketball for me. So, I'm watching that and how they how they dealing with him adjust to that.

[00:23:48]>> I think Victor probably has a massive game tonight. He just seems like the kind of guy that's going to respond to all this kind of talk and just go out there and back it up. Um I've been so impressed with him in the series.

[00:23:55]because he looks years beyond his age. I expected him to be more inexperienced and struggle a little bit more with the physicality and he absolutely dominated game three. He was so incredible in that game and probably would have dominated game four if he hadn't gotten uh ejected for the elbow. So, I'm expecting a big game from him. I honestly think that there were probably not we might see some kuruffling because I think it'll be frustrating for the Wolves, but I'm expecting a Spurs blowout tonight. I think they're going to win by 20 plus.

[00:24:20]>> I am watching WBY just like Hayes. Like, I want to see how he responds from this.

[00:24:25]I think that it could actually get a little physical because to me WBY was sending a message with that elbow because if we have questions about Victor Webbyama, it's it's not the skill set, it's not the height, it's not the unicorn stuff, it's is this guy tough enough for playoff basketball. And I think by throwing that elbow at Nas Reed, he was picking out the guy the biggest guy in the prison yard and saying, "I'm going to fight that guy."

[00:24:46]And not just to set the tone for this series, but maybe to set the tone for the rest of his career. Like if you think you're going to come at me like this, that's not you risk getting concuss concussed by my elbow. And I love that as a message from WBY and I want to see how he backs that up in this game. We know Minnesota's going to come at him again too, right? They're going to throw Julius Randall, Nas Reed, Rudy Goar at him. I really want to see how WBY responds to this because this this kind of feels like a moment for him, does it not?

[00:25:13]>> I think so. I think he's I think it's an opportunity for him to really show that he wants to be that guy. He said he's going to be that guy. And like typically we kind of get mixed reactions when guys are in this kind of spot. The true mega stars come out and they drop >> a huge game and get the win here. I think that that's I expect a pretty dominant performance from Victor tonight.

[00:25:32]>> The other side of it is Anthony Edwards Hayes. I mean he's starting to come on strong. He's almost like fully where he needs to be for this series.

[00:25:40]>> Yeah. I mean I think he's locked in. I think that's that that I think everybody's locked in in this series.

[00:25:44]This is the series to watch. I think the rest of this second round um because I think this one's going to go the distance. I think they're going to go a full seven games in the series.

[00:25:52]>> Interesting.

[00:25:53]>> Yeah. In terms of adjustments, I mean, this is really the last game you would get in a seven game series where there's any sort of major adjustments. I kind of think we're done with them already. I I just don't really know what other levers and buttons there are to pull. It just it comes down to which team is going to play better and make shots and um you know, WBY versus Ant. It's going to be awesome. Anything else on this game before we get out of here?

Uh need good performances from them. And then, >> you know, Jade McDaniels has not been good on the road. He needs to have they've got to get some sort of offensive lift from the for the Wolves.
