Jesus' teaching 'Resist Not Evil' is not about passive acceptance but about withdrawing mental consent from appearances that claim authority in your consciousness; when you resist, you grant evil power, presence, and inevitability, but when you refuse to consent, Christ becomes the only presence and power, allowing you to act wisely from peace rather than fear.

RESIST NOT EVIL Explained: Jesus’ Most Misunderstood SPIRITUAL TECHNOLOGYAdded:
Good evening. Let us come straight to the point because if you miss this first sentence, you will spend the whole hour trying to repair the mistake.
Resistance makes the appearance real to you. Do you see that?
The moment you tense against it, argue with it, fear it, condemn it, you take its measurements and you hand it citizenship papers in your consciousness.
And from that instant, it has a body. It has breath. It has the right to sit down at your table and talk to you all night.
That is not strength. That is idolatry.
You have elected a second power. And then you wonder why your peace collapses. Now then, whenever we say resist not evil, there are some who imagine we are recommending that you be passive, naive, permissive of wrongdoing. And I must tell you plainly there is no such instruction in the Christ. That is a category error. You are confusing inner consent with outer action. The issue is not whether you call the police, set a boundary, cancel the subscription, change the job. The issue is whether before and while you do any of those things, you have crowned an appearance as a power in your mind. If you have, you are already under its law.
If you have not, you are under grace and wisdom will move you to act without fear, without hatred, without the little fever that makes fools of us. I've been watching this for 27 years, and I can tell you the only breath an appearance has is the breath you lended by attention and reaction.
A shadow on the wall is nothing until you turn from the light and wrestle with it. The picture on a movie screen is nothing until you pump your emotion into it and cry as if it were your own life.
So it is with the report, the insult, the symptom, the headline.
You take it in, you measure it, you resist, and in that act you worship. You have bowed to a second presence in a universe where the Christ is the only presence and the only power. Now then, this is not an argument. This is a demonstration and we are going to live it together in this hour. I am not asking you to shut your eyes to facts. I am asking you to withdraw mental consent from their claim to authority.
We will not lose discernment. We will gain it. We will not become careless. We will become precise.
We will see how to let Christ be the only presence in the midst of conflict and then speak firmly without bitterness.
We will see how to let Christ be the only presence in the midst of fear in the body and then use wise human means without becoming a slave to what if. We will see how to be informed about the world without making the news your daily sacrament.
And we will face that voice of self accusation that sits in some of you like a judge on a bench. And we will take its gavvel away.
Stay with me. Before we are done, you will have a simple inner practice and a clear outer step for each of these.
Because your freedom does not begin with fighting. It begins with refusing to grant a lie the dignity of your resistance.
Now then, let us begin. Now then, before you can resist not, you must go to the root of the hypnotism and ask a very simple courtroom question.
Who decreed that? Who signed the warrant that this report, this behavior, this balance sheet, this ache, this headline is a power? Was it that man, that newspaper, that memory from 1997, that rumor repeated enough times at the office water cooler, that statistic with a graph and a red arrow? Who decreed that?
Well, let me tell you there is no such divine law. There is only a human agreement and it's an agreement you can withdraw.
Never doubt this. When I say evil, I am not speaking of a little devil in a red suit. I am speaking of any appearance that presents itself with four badges on its chest.
Presence, power, law, and inevitability.
harm and hatred, disease and lack, injustice and doom. Anything that walks into your consciousness and says, "I am here. I am strong. I am the rule and you cannot escape me."
That is what we are dealing with. And the mistake is you nod, you sign, you give it your signature in fear and indignation. And from that instant you are under its ordinance. How do these ordinances get written? Not in heaven.
They are written in the human atmosphere by repetition and fear and images and social agreement.
Put it on a screen with foroding music.
Quote it three times with an expert panel. Add a chart. Stir in the tremor of your neighbor's voice. And soon you call it law.
I have been watching this for 27 years and I can tell you it is a manufacturing process.
It is a factory of belief. It is not the realm where grace and truth are law.
Under Moses, yes, you fulfill the ordinance. Under Christ, the ordinance cannot enter. Where grace is, the law of fear does not operate. Let me illustrate. Two people received the same email from the boss at 9:12 p.m. We need to talk at 9:00 a.m. One mind says, "Threat judgment. My job is hanging."
The night is shattered. The body floods with alarm. The imagination writes 10 chapters of disaster.
Another mind reads, pauses, turns within, acknowledges.
Christ is the only presence here and there. Nothing has authority to govern my peace. Then it says, "Call for wisdom."
That one sleeps, rises, prepares a clear report, goes in steady, speaks truth without defensiveness.
Same email, two universes.
Do you see that? The decisive element is not the message. It is the consent you grant to its claim of power. Now then, here is your first micro practice. And if you will do this 10 times tomorrow, you will feel the floor under your feet.
When a claim arises, screen, symptom, sentence, stop one breath and ask, "What is this claiming? presence, power, law, inevitability, and by what authority.
Name the decreeer. Say it plainly to yourself. That man, that algorithm, that memory, that rumor, that statistic, and then quietly you withdraw your signature.
You do not argue. You do not bless it or curse it. You simply refuse deputization.
Who decreed you? Not God, not grace.
Stand aside.
In that instant, you are no longer an effect. You have resumed dominion. You have denied a shadow the dignity of your resistance and you have denied a lie the sacrament of your fear.
That is the first act. From there we can move. But without this, you will worship your appearances and call it prudence.
That's pitiful.
Now then, let's learn to live where only Christ decrees. Now then, let us draw the clean line. Because until you see the two levels, you will keep mixing your medicines and wondering why the patient doesn't heal.
Under law, you are an effect. You stand in front of a condition and you treat it as a presence and a power and a law over you. Your body tenses. The breath shortens. The mind begins its arithmetic of dread. You argue in your head. You rehearse speeches. You picture losses.
You become a litigant pleading your case in the court of fear.
That is resistance.
It looks like strength. It is only worship with a scowl on its face.
Under grace you are cause. You witness not with your eyes but with your awareness of God. The nullity of the claim in the presence of the Christ. You do not deny a fact. You deny its pretention to spiritual authority.
You look straight through the sensation, the sentence, the scene, and you rest quietly actually where only one presence is allowed to be presence. The law came by Moses. Grace and truth came by Christ Jesus.
That is not a pretty inscription for a church wall. That is the map. Under Moses, under law, you manage and restrain and conform and push back. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, diet for diet, budget for budget, argument for argument.
That realm has its ordinances. And while you live as a human under it, you had better obey them. But once you pass into grace, once the Christ is consciously realized as the life of your life, the ordinance cannot enter and resistance becomes not only unnecessary but harmful because it pulls you back under the jurisdiction of what you just left.
Resist not evil is the announcement that the courtroom has changed. It does not mean approve evil. It does not mean be sweet to wrongdoing. It means do not enthrone a claim by battling it as a power. Leave the court of law. Stand in the temple of grace. Well, who decreed that flinching is fidelity and that panic is prudence?
That man, that custom, that training.
I have been watching this for 27 years and I can tell you nine of what you call courage is adrenaline plus a story and it makes idols of shadows.
Grace is not a story. Grace is a state.
It is the inner stillness that says father thou art the only presence here.
and then waits until the heart softens and the breath lengthens and the mind is no longer a marching band. In that stillness, you have refused deputization.
And then if a phone call is to be made, you make it. If a boundary is to be set, you set it. If a doctor is to be consulted, you consult.
Wisdom acts. Resistance worships.
Never doubt this. Now then, how do you know which level you are in? Very simple. If you find yourself defining your identity by what was done to you, by what might happen to you, by what this condition can do with you, you are under law and you will resist and suffer by degrees.
If even for one breath you can feel within, I am not a vulnerable effect.
Christ in me is the only presence, the only law. You have crossed the threshold, and the same circumstance that bullied you a moment ago becomes a scene in which grace moves you precisely.
Get thee behind me, Satan, is not a shout at a devil. It is the end of argument with appearances. It is the restoration of jurisdiction.
From there peace does the seeing and your hands do only what peace directs.
Now then when I say technology do not look for a gadget or a mantra you can wind up in the morning and it runs all day while you go on being afraid.
Spiritual technology is a repeatable inner act that shifts jurisdiction and it is simple. Do not confuse simple with easy and it is immediate. Do not confuse immediate with theoretical.
It is the motion by which you take back your signature. You will not fight the storm. You will not bless the storm. You will quietly decline to make it law in you. And in that very breath, you pass from the court of law into the temple of grace. How? You need an inner pivot. And it must be language you can actually say when your email pings or your chest tightens or the headline shouts. You turn within and you speak to the suggestion, not to a person, not to a body, not to a bank account. Now then, this is not a power. This is not a presence. Christ is the presence here.
Say it as you would say your own name.
When someone tries to rename you, say it without heat. Heat is consent. Quiet is authority.
And then wait one breath longer than your habit. Let the breath fall in. Let the shoulders drop. Let stillness have one inch of your attention. In that inch, you have changed courts. Why not argue?
Because argument is the handshake.
To argue with evil is to accept its premise that there are two powers. You have already split the universe and given the shadow citizenship.
Fear is agreement.
Outrage is attachment.
Obsessive research is communion with the appearance. You have made its altar your desk and you call that prudence.
I've been watching this for 27 years and I can tell you the louder the inner protest, the tighter the chain. The minute you stop feeding at your reaction, the thing that seemed to breathe begins to flatten because its breath was yours. Let me give you the inner dialogue and please practice it in small things so it will be there in the large.
A thought comes this will ruin you.
You do not negotiate. You do not shout.
You turn and say, "Get thee behind me."
Not to a man, not to an organ, not to a bank, but to the suggestion in thought.
Then I am not under the law. I am under grace. Father, thou art the only presence here. And then you stop. You do not pile on 14 affirmations as if God were hard of hearing. One or two clear statements and then silence. In that silence, the charge begins to dissolve.
Not because you overshouted it, but because you withdrew consent. Here is the three-step practice, and it will carry you if you will carry it. First, recognize the suggestion. Name what it is claiming, presence, power, law, inevitability, and see by whose say so it appears.
Second, refuse its authority. Quietly, decisively say within, not a power, not a presence. Christ is the presence here.
Get thee behind me.
Third, rest. This is the gate. Rest in the felt sense of Christ presence until the emotional heat loosens.
Wait for the softening of breath, the untying in the belly, the small inward yes that says peace has jurisdiction.
That may take 10 seconds. It may take a minute. It is worth your life.
Do not leave that resting place until the grip has weakened because action taken under fever is worship of the fever. Now then, when the charge has ebbed, the next step becomes simple. You will email or call or walk away or get a diagnosis or set a boundary. But you will move as one who is not negotiating with a second power. Wisdom acts.
Resistance worships. Never doubt this.
Now then, let us clear up the confusion that has cost you sleep and spoiled your courage. Resist not evil does not mean leave the door open, put the cash on the table and invite mischief to supper. It does not mean smile sweetly at wrongdoing and call it spirituality.
It means this and only this. You will not grant the appearance spiritual status while you take whatever intelligent human step is required.
Inner jurisdiction remains with Christ.
Outer conduct is simple, measured, exact. Make the clean distinction and you will feel your shoulders drop.
inside. No fear, no hate, no obsession, no running commentaries or courtroom speeches, no replaying of insults to keep your indignation warm.
Outside, a firm, no. A boundary, a report filed, a door locked, a subscription canled, a meeting scheduled, counsel sought.
Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Harmless within, no poison of judgment.
Wise without, no naivee, no negligence.
Who decreed that fear is necessary to lock a door? Who decreed that hatred is the power you must summon to say no?
That man, that culture, not God. Let me illustrate because you must see it working where you live. The phone rings with a voice that has tormented you for years. You do not brace. You do not rehearse. One breath. Christ is the only presence here. Then very simply, no, I won't be speaking now. You may email if you need to. And you end the call. No tremor, no insult, no postmortem.
Or you are in a meeting and a lie is spoken about you. Inside get thee behind me. I am not under the law. Outside that is inaccurate. Here are the facts. And then silence or there is danger. Real human danger.
Inside. No panic. No mythologizing the threat into a god. outside. You step away. You call the authorities. You lock the door.
You see, wisdom acts. Resistance worships. I have been watching this for 27 years, and I can tell you the hidden vanity of resistance is the sweetest candy the ego ever tasted.
It loves the drama of enemies. It loves the adrenaline of being right. It loves to stand on a box and denounce because denouncing keeps the picture big and keeps you important in your own eyes.
That is why some of you cannot stop reacting. You are feeding yourself on outrage and calling it righteousness.
That's pitiful.
Now then, stop paying yourself with that currency.
Your protection is not in your agitation. It is in your consciousness of presence.
Your effectiveness is not in your volume. It is in your clarity. Try this in a small thing today. The headline barks. You do not dive into the pit. One breath, not a power. Then you read for information. You support what good you can. You write the letter. You vote. You give without making the story your sacrament.
or a symptom knocks, you rest first, then you call the doctor if wisdom so moves you, and you go as one, not negotiating with a second power.
Let your yay be yay and your nay nay.
But let them be born from peace.
Never doubt this. You may act firmly in the world, but you must not enthrone the condition in your mind. When you keep the altar for Christ alone, your actions will be precise, and your peace will keep watch while you sleep. Now then, let us bring it right down to the table where you eat and the phone in your hand.
Someone speaks sharply to you, clips your name as if it were a nuisance, misjudges your work in front of others, or worse, betrays a confidence you trusted to them.
Watch what happens in human habit. The chest hardens, the throat fills with councils of perfection. You begin drafting speeches in your head, and you install a little courtroom right behind your eyes, where you are both judge and prosecutor.
You rehearse zingers. You call a friend to fortify your righteousness. You stay up late with your indignation warm like a cup of coffee that never runs out. And you call that strength.
Who decreed that?
that man, that culture.
Well, let me tell you, there is no such law. I have been watching this for 27 years, and I can tell you the moment you react, you grant the other person's behavior presence, power, law, and inevitability in your own consciousness.
You have let their sentence legislate your peace. You pass from cause to effect, from grace to law, from freedom to bondage. And the chain is forged not by their mouth, but by your consent.
Heat is agreement. Rehearsal is communion. Outrage is worship.
Never doubt this. The louder your inner case, the tighter the shackle. Now then, here is the relational non-resistance and it is precise.
You will not name them enemy inside. You will not baptize their behavior with spiritual authority.
Silently, right where that person appears, you acknowledge Christ is the only presence here. Then you speak to the suggestion, not to the person. Get thee behind me. I am not under the law.
I am under grace.
You refuse to swallow the insult as identity. You decline deputization.
Wait one breath longer than your habit.
Let the shoulders drop. Stay until the sting begins to loosen.
In that inch of stillness, jurisdiction changes. From there, boundaries are simple.
Pause. Breathe. Answer minimally.
Leave the room if needed. I'm not willing to continue while voices are raised. Let's speak tomorrow. That statement is inaccurate. Here are the facts. I'm going to step outside for a few minutes. You do not accuse.
Accusation is the ego's oxygen.
Later, when peace holds the floor, you speak truth without venom, and you set the line without theater.
forgive and do not become a doormat which is only another way of worshiping the other by making them your weather.
You can bless inwardly and say outwardly no more. And you can do both from the same quiet center. Let me illustrate where you live. Holiday table. The old argument splashes its wine on the cloth.
politics, religion, the family story with your name bent.
Inside first, not a power. Christ is the presence at this table. Outside, I hear your view. I won't be arguing tonight.
Pass the bread. If the heat rises, I love you. I'm stepping into the kitchen for a bit. Or the friend who carried your private word to the street.
Inside, you withdraw consent from the wounds jurisdiction.
Outside, one clear conversation.
I felt betrayed when my words were shared. I will be keeping future matters private. And then you adjust access without bitterness.
Wisdom acts, resistance worships. And understand the gate here is moral and it is narrow. Forgiveness 70* 7 is not sweetness or cowardice. It is the only doorway out of law level conflict into grace level freedom.
Judge not is not a slogan. It is the removal of the gallows from your heart.
Neither do I condemn thee must be spoken within before it can be spoken without forgiveness. This is a trick you try on Tuesday and abandon by Friday.
With forgiveness, this becomes your atmosphere. And in that atmosphere, you will find that people either soften or slide out of your circle without a fight. Choose this day. Will you let another's behavior become your inner law? Or will you forgive, set your boundary from peace, and live where Christ alone is presence and power? Now then, let us walk into the room where fear pretends to be science and inevitability wears a white coat.
Symptoms that flicker like bad lighting.
Test results with little flags. Online prognosis that recite life expecties at 2 in the morning. Family histories that arrive like verdicts. Your grandfather had it at 52. Your aunt at 60. Mark your calendar.
Who decreed that?
who decreed that a sensation must be a sentence, that a number must be a governor, that an algorithm must be your shepherd, that man, that industry, that collective habit of bowing to the screen before you bow to God.
Well, let me tell you, there is no such divine law. Under law, information becomes destiny.
Under grace, information is a tool, and fear is not permitted to be preached. I have been watching this for 27 years, and I can tell you how the trap is baited.
A whisper in the chest at 2:00 a.m., a twinge in the side, a patch of skin you've never introduced yourself to before, and the mind, which has been trained to worship threat, lights the candles at the altar of what if. You check and recheck. You measure. You Google. You build a cathedral of tabs.
You argue with your body as if it were an unruly tenant. You hate yourself for being afraid and then fear your hatred because you have read that stress is the real killer.
That's pitiful.
Now then understand what is happening.
Every compulsive check, every rehearsal of doom, every treaty you try to make with the symptom is consent. It is the inner signature that says you are presence, you are power, you are law, you are inevitable.
Heat is agreement. Catastrophizing is communion.
Obsessive research is resistance dressed up as diligence. And resistance worships. Who decreed that this must progress?
Who decreed that your life is under this sentence?
The chart, the search engine, the story your family tells at picnics.
Not God. Take no thought for your life does not mean take no wise step. It means refuse thoughts usurpation of the throne.
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
By taking thought, you only add hours to your panic. Now then, here is the grace level practice, and it is precise. We do not make an idol of ignorance. We honor human wisdom without surrendering spiritual jurisdiction.
The wave hits, palms sweat, heart drums, the mind shouts, "This is it.
Stop one breath. Turn inward. Not to a body, not to a number, but to the Christ.
Father, thou art the only presence here.
This fear is not a power. Get thee behind me. I am not under the law. I am under grace. Say it as you would refuse a stranger who tries to move into your home. Then wait one breath longer than your habit. Feel the shoulders drop. Let the breath widen. Do not stack affirmations like sandbags. One clear acknowledgement and then silence.
Rest until the heat loosens. In that resting, jurisdiction changes. From there, the next human step becomes simple and undramatic.
If wisdom says call the doctor, you call. If wisdom says make the appointment, you schedule it. If wisdom says take the medicine, you take it. If wisdom says drink water and walk around the block, you do it. But notice, you are not negotiating with a second power, you are not lighting incense to the god of what if. You are under grace, acting wisely, steadily, without hatred of the body, and without adoration of the symptom.
Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Harmless within to your own peace, wise without to the needs of the hour. Practice this in the small flickers so you will have it in the big winds.
The email from the lab pops up with a word you do not recognize. You do not sprint to the altar of doom. One breath, not a power. Christ is the presence here. rest, then read, then ask, then follow the sane next step.
The family text arrives about the gene.
You do not carve your tombstone.
One breath. Who decreed inevitability?
Not God. Get thee behind me. Rest. Then plan your screening if wisdom says so and go as one whose life is hid with Christ in God.
Never doubt this. You can use wise human means but you must not let fear become law. Withdraw consent. Let grace govern the experience and you will find that even in the clinic, even in the scan room, peace goes before you and opens doors that panic cannot see.
Wisdom acts. Resistance worships.
Choose this day which you will serve.
Now then, let us look at the sanctuary most people visit before they brush their teeth. The liturgy of headlines.
The screen lights, the thumb slides, and you commence your morning devotions.
Attention, fear, outrage. Three times before coffee, and you call it being informed.
Who decreed that to be a good citizen, you must begin the day by communing with disaster?
Who decreed that your sacrament is anxiety with a side of statistics?
that man, that industry, that appetite for stimulation masquerading as duty.
Well, let me tell you, there is no such divine law. Under law, you swallow whatever the feed serves, and you resist it loudly till your blood sings.
Under grace, you choose what you will serve. You read when wisdom says read and you keep your altar for Christ alone. I have been watching this for 27 years and I can tell you what happens when resistance scales.
One private outrage is a spark. 10 million private outrages refreshed hourly become a weather system.
The claim gains presence because it is everywhere in thought. It gains power because you loan it adrenaline.
It becomes law because you schedule your day to bow to it. It becomes inevitable because your conversations anoint it as the great it that explains everything.
That is how appearances become world belief and world belief becomes the air you breathe.
Never doubt this. Collective resistance is the multiplication table of fear. Now then, here is the discipline and it is simple. Choose this day whom you will serve. God or mammon, grace or the feed.
Set your order. No headlines before prayer. No push notification. Priesthood ringing your heart like a bell every 15 minutes. A fixed window in which you glance for information and then lay it down. One breath before you open the article, not a power. Christ is the only presence here. Read as a report, not as a decree.
Close it. Rest one breath longer than your habit until the heat loosens. If you feel your jaw tighten and your shoulders climb, you are being absorbed.
Stop. There is no virtue in doomscrolling. It is only worship by repetition.
Take no thought is not an endorsement of ignorance. It is a refusal to enthrone thought as governor. Replace reaction with prayerful seeing.
When you meet the word war, famine, storm, scandal, you do not make a second power out of it. You acknowledge, "Father, thou art the only presence here and there. Get thee behind me. Bless, do not curse. Pray for leaders you dislike as deliberately as for those you prefer.
Bless them that curse you is not a courtesy. It is the law of grace that removes your mind from the jurisdiction of hatred.
Hold the scene in quiet light. No speeches within. And then ask, "What is mine to do?"
And do something. One concrete service each week from peace, not as revenge against the world.
Give to the food bank. Write a sober letter to your representative.
Volunteer one hour where human hands actually touch human needs.
Check on the neighbor who does not open her blinds. Support a peacemaker organization.
Vote. Do it without heat, without posting your righteousness for applause, without making evil big so you can feel important pushing against it. The spiritual law is multiplication, not division.
Your small action under grace multiplies good more than your thousand angry scrolls divide your peace. Be informed.
Yes. Be enthralled. Never hold consciousness in Christ and act from that altar. Wisdom acts. Resistance worships.
Choose this day. Now then, here is the hard gate and you must hear it without varnish. You cannot practice non-resistance in the morning and keep a little pantry of condemnations for the afternoon.
These are two different states of consciousness and they do not mix.
Resist not evil is not a trick you add to a life of hating, resenting, scorning and calling it discernment.
It is a change of jurisdiction and judgment cannot pass through the door.
Who decreed that you could secretly damn your neighbor, despise a party, sneer at a class, keep an old family ledger, and then speak the word peace and have grace run your errands.
That man, that habit, that inherited bitterness.
Well, let me tell you, there is no such law in God. I have been watching this for 27 years, and I can tell you where the leak is. You say your prayers. You speak Christ is the only presence. And then you sit down with friends and make a feast of contempt. Political contempt, racial bias dressed as statistics, class contempt dressed as standards, old resentments reheated with fresh spices, and a proud little spirituality that looks down its nose at the unawakened.
That's pitiful.
Now then understand the mechanism.
Condemnation is dualism. The minute you judge, you have created a second power.
You have enthroned an enemy. You have split the world into camps and hired yourself as a soldier. Under law, soldiers must keep fighting. Under grace, there are no enemies to validate your weaponry. Judge not that ye be not judged is not a threat. It is a physics of consciousness.
Judgment returns because you chose its jurisdiction.
With what measure ye meet, it shall be measured to you again. Not as punishment from on high, but because measuring makes you live under measurement.
Condemnation keeps you in reaction, and reaction keeps you worshiping the very appearance you wish to be free from.
Never doubt this. The need to be right is the last chain on the ankle. Now then, here is the demand and it is plain. Pray for those you call enemies.
Bless those who curse you. Release the delicious need to be right. 70* 7. you forgive, not to excuse harm, not to abandon boundaries, but to step out from under the law where harm and boundary must battle forever.
Neither do I condemn thee must be established within your own heart, or it will never echo with power when you speak it outwardly.
This is not sentiment. It is liberation.
Every act of blessing removes a jurisdictional claim against you. Every refusal to condemn loosens the inner knot that ties you to the picture. How then, when the hot thought rises about that politician, that neighbor, that relative, that group, do not swallow it, and do not spit it. Turn on it. Get thee behind me. Father, thou art the only presence here and there. I do not condemn.
Wait one breath longer than your habit.
If the picture returns, and it will, return again to I am not under the law.
I am under grace.
And if there is amends to be made, make it. If there is a boundary to be set, set it. But cleanse the inner cup first.
Be purified of bigotry, bias, prejudice, the quiet superiority that keeps you warm at night and cold in the morning.
The path is straight and narrow, and few there be that enter. Yes, but do not be frightened by the word few. Each sincere forgiveness is a step. Each relinquished opinion that tasted like power and turned out to be poison is a step.
I have seen faces change, bodies heal, houses fill with supply simply because a woman laid down her rightness and blessed the one she had been cursing under her breath for 20 years.
Grace does not meet you at the end of a perfect record. It meets you at the end of your condemnation.
Choose this day to cleanse the altar.
And you will find that resist not evil stops being an idea and becomes the atmosphere in which you live. Now then, if you would live this and not just admire it, you must retrain the instrument that keeps giving jurisdiction to appearances, your own consciousness.
Who decreed that 15 seconds of pious thought in the car is sufficient to dethrone world belief? That man, that laziness.
Well, let me tell you, there is no such law. Grace is lived by discipline. And the discipline is simple and exact. One hour a day given to the kingdom. Not to get outcomes, but to be transformed. to change courts from law to grace before you ever meet the first email. Set it like this and do not negotiate with it.
Before screens and headlines and chores, open the Gospels, not a chapter to collect merit badges. 10 or 12 sentences will do. Read slowly, aloud if you can, until one phrase warms or startles or holds your sleeve.
Stop there. Ask not what would Jesus do that keeps you outside looking in, but what is Christ here? What is the nature of presence revealed in this line? And where is that same presence as me? As this day, as that situation I fear.
Let the question do its work without rush. Then close the book and sit. 5 10 15 minutes of quiet. Eyes open or shut, but no bargaining, no lists. Only Father, thou art the only presence here and rest.
Wait one breath longer than your habit.
Let the shoulders fall. Permit the silence to have you. Then before you rise, take one line with you, your watchword for the day. Perhaps get thee behind me. Or, I am not under the law, I am under grace. Or, neither do I condemn thee. Write it on a card if you must.
You will need it. Now then, the day is your practice field. Walk in watchfulness. When a claim appears, and it will appear in traffic, in the inbox, in a symptom, in a face, do not argue.
Do not obey.
Turn within and speak to the suggestion.
Now then, this is not power. This is not presence. I live under grace. Father, thou art the only presence here. Get thee behind me. one or two clear statements and then silence until the charge begins to break. If it rises again, answer again. Repeat as often as the picture knocks until your breath widens and the inner heat loosens only.
Then act, call, write, step away, speak the fact, but act as one who has already changed courts. Wisdom acts. Resistance worships in the evening. Five minutes to look without a whip.
Where did I grant authority to an appearance? Where did I remember and rest? Give thanks where you remembered.
Forgive where you forgot. Release every ledger. Do not make this transactional.
I did my hour, now fix my life. Is a return to law and its wages. Strain, reward, punishment.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God is not a slogan. It is the architecture of grace. Seek and all these things are added, not purchased. Added as reaction thins and receptivity widens. I have been watching this for 27 years and I can tell you what follows. Timely words appear in your mouth. Safe steps light under your feet. Reconciliations gather themselves without wrestling. supply multiplies instead of shrinking under fear. Protection moves ahead of you like a quiet guard.
Choose this day to keep your hour and your momentby-moment refusal, and you will find the atmosphere of grace taking jurisdiction in the very places where law once ruled you. Now then, we have come to the gate where words must become your walk. Let us state it plainly so you can carry it home without confusion.
When you resist, you consent. You lean your thought against the picture and your heat supplies it a body. You feed it with your attention. You authorize it with your fear and in your own consciousness it becomes real, powerful, inevitable.
That is the mechanics of bondage. When you resist not, you do not play the game. You withdraw consent. You take back the certificate of incorporation you were about to sign with outrage. And in that very act, the Christ is revealed as the only presence and power.
Same scene, different jurisdiction.
Heat is agreement. Silence in God is dominion. Choose this day. God or mammon, law or grace, reaction or revelation?
condemnation or forgiveness.
Do not answer to your neighbor or to me.
Answer to your own withinness because there is where the law you live under is set. Who decreed that you must continue as an effect thrown here and there by appearances.
That man, that world belief.
Well, let me tell you, there is no such divine law. The law came by Moses. Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Under law, you must keep the calendar of fears. Under grace, you live from presence and act from peace. I have been watching this for 27 years and I can tell you the promise and the condition that unlocks it. As you practice this hour by hour, breath by chosen breath, fear loses its voice because you refuse to serve as its choir. Conflict loses its hook because you declined to furnish barbs.
Headlines lose their hypnosis because you will not let them be your daily sacrament. You are no longer an effect.
You become cause.
You act on the world. The world does not act on you. Do not take my word for it.
Take one week and prove it. Keep your hour. Keep your watch word. Keep your refusal to grant authority to appearances. And observe how harmony multiplies where anxiety used to divide.
Now then, be ready. You will be tempted tomorrow and likely before breakfast. A sting, a story, a sound in the body, a sentence on a screen, and your old soldier will reach for the drum. When you notice you've begun to march, do not condemn yourself. Neither do I condemn thee. Begin again. Say, "Now then," and turn. Get thee behind me. Father, thou art the only presence here. I am not under the law. I am under grace.
One breath longer than your habit and the jurisdiction changes 70* 7 toward yourself as surely as toward your brother until reaction tires of finding the door locked and leaves you to your peace. So take this with you tonight and do not leave it on the chair.
Choose this day whom you will serve and then serve by remembering.
Keep the altar for Christ alone and let your actions be simple, exact, and kind.
Your freedom is not in defeating appearances by force. It is in living from grace where Christ alone is presence and power.
Do what is wise in the world, but do not resist in consciousness.
Let Christ be the only presence.
