This video documents a hunger and labor strike at ICE Detention Center Delaney Hall in Newark, NJ, where detainees protest conditions including worms in food, black mold, lack of privacy, and inadequate healthcare, while demanding release from detention. The strike highlights systemic issues in immigration detention facilities, including the detention of individuals who are not flight risks, the separation of families, and the denial of basic human needs and legal rights.

Hunger and Labor Strike (Day 2) at ICE Detention Center Delaney Hall - NJAjouté :
I'm sure that would be happening, which is terrible, and it is insane on their part to be doing that. They should be talking to the hunger strikers, labor strikers, and addressing their concerns.
That's pretty pretty much a no-brainer.
We have been down here for a year. We have had people at every visitation and at vigils 3 days a week. So, every day has been somebody from New Jersey here.
And we have heard from the families consistently for a year, the same problems in there. This is beyond reform.
They cannot run that facility in a way that meets human needs, basic human needs.
That facility needs to be closed.
Those More importantly, those people need to be released to their communities. The strikers themselves have said the elderly, the ill, the very young, the women need to be released.
There should be a The management there needs to walk out about 200 people today.
Those people have no business being locked up. That is an error. That is a mistake. That is a calculated plan on the part of this administration, and it's illegal.
Most people in there were taken as part of their their routine immigration process. They were making their meetings with ICE.
They were reporting for court. They have families here. They have wives here.
They have children here. They are not flight risks.
This whole thing of taking them to court one by one is insane.
And charging them, you know, with saying that they need to pay bail of $50,000.
Who is making those decisions?
You need to eat.
Um, yes, they want better conditions, but they want to be released. And at the paramount of all of this is freedom. And we want them all to be released.
And we want to we want to close out the lady. I mean, that's the fundamental, I think, what we asking for in this, right? But the biggest ask has been having the governor to show up because the governor has not shown up since, I guess, she was on her campaign trail, you know, came out here outside, took a video, and that was it.
And so, putting the governor on notice to show up and come and see what's happening at the lady hall, speak to the families, bear witness, and speak to the individuals who are going through such a difficult time in this space that they have taken the power and inspired us all and really show such great courage and resilience in the struggle that they collectively united across all units to really show that they can stand for their rights.
They took her away to get her released.
And yesterday they said she lost her tooth cuz they didn't even care. They don't give her medicine. They don't give her anything else. And like I have a autoimmune disease, so I lost almost all my hair because of the case. I have a wig now, but I can take it out during the show.
But it's really like it's really hard the way that they treat her. Like all the times she went to the doctor and that's why for medicine for the anemia and they don't even care. They don't give her anything. And like my dad, his case is like difficult too and now it's just me and him.
My graduation is coming. My prom is next week and she's not going to be here.
What high school? Yeah, I'm a senior right now.
I'm going to graduate next month.
I was supposed to be with me, but they say that's not possible. And I tried everything. I changed lawyers like for three times.
They tried and they say they can't do anything. I spent a lot of money on that and they don't help my mom. Like it's worse. I'm like I'm like shaking.
I try not to cry cuz it's really hard for me. She was my support. She was I tried suicide two times before she got detained and so she was the one who was helping me with everything. I had depression, anxiety, also dealt with my disease and she was the one who helped me with everything.
And now she is what? She's far and can talk with play for her friend the phone, but it's not the same. And do you know have they charged her with something to detain her?
Uh do you have has she been given a reason why she's inside? The The only reason they say is because she was here before on 2005.
So, 2005 she was here. She received the deportation letter. And 2010 she went back to the facility.
But for then, she never went back to Brazil. She stayed here all the 20 years. She just come back after 12.
So, they say that's the reason. And when she had the first court, I think that's the worst part why she didn't get released. Because the lawyer that she had for the first lawyer that we had, they didn't help her on the first court.
They just explained her case, but didn't try to help her to get out. So, they say the reason they denied because they denied her bond and the habeas corpus because they say they don't have power to decide if she can get released or no, but that's not true cuz the federal judge already say that she could get released. And they could get her like the the How do you say it? To pay a bill?
The bond, yeah.
So, they That's the reason, but like they don't give expect especially like uh she going to she she going to get released on someday or you got to pay them.
But a federal judge said she could be released. Yeah.
Basically, it could This is about building anniversary of this opening up as an ice prison.
Uh they did a drum circle, etc., but they're going to be having people out here.
>> These old detainees shut down the lady hall now. And by the way, what's going on?
