The video poignantly captures the psychological exhaustion of perpetual "othering," where the novelty of being a foreigner eventually yields to a desperate longing for social invisibility. It serves as a sobering reminder that true hospitality requires moving beyond polite curiosity toward genuine structural integration.

【初来日】オランダからやってきた青年たちが吐露.. 「早く帰国したい」その理由とは?[#215]【日英字幕付き】Added:
It's It's a bit like uncomfortable. Like you think I'm doing something wrong or something. Maybe I'm happy to go back because I go unnoticed again. That I'm just a guy.
You look very cool.
>> You look very cool.
>> Thank you.
>> You speak English?
>> Yes, I speak English.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Can we have a chat for a little bit since you're so cool?
>> Yeah.
>> I'm vlogging right now. Do you mind if in a video?
>> Uh, no. I don't mind. Do you do you do it for YouTube for yourself?
>> Yeah. Let me share my channel. My name is Toya, by the way. Toya.
>> Thomas.
>> Thomas. Nice to meet you.
>> It's very cool name.
>> Oh, thank you. Thank you.
You came to Japan by yourself?
>> No, a friend of mine uh is on exchange here in Osaka. So I'm here now visiting him. But today he has a school. So I went to a saka castle to see for myself.
Uh >> I see. I see. So this is the first time for you >> in Japan. Yeah. I was in this weekend I was in Tokyo and today is the first day I'm here in Osaka.
>> How do you like it so far? I mean you like Osaka.
>> Osaka in Tokyo is like so busy. It's extreme. Like right now in the Netherlands we have King's Day like the the king's birthday and the whole country celebrates it. Amsterdam like our capital city busiest ever like I told to my friends like like Tokyo is like King's Day times 10. Like it's it's crazy how busy it is and everywhere there are sounds and all the metros also have their own tune. Like it's a it's it's a really crazy experience and quite a culture shock like so today was like really nice day to get bit of calm to just take the metro to go here like sit in the park like >> very chill.
>> Yeah. Very chill. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes we need this time >> to take a rest. So the rest of the week we have a lot more energy to do it.
>> So Netherlands will play Japan the World Cup be in the same group.
>> Oh yeah yeah yeah.
>> It will be tough. It's like a 50/50.
Japan is >> Yeah. That's what I think. the best team they they ever had. I think it's a they're really skillful but also like a team like like they're ready to fight for the win.
>> Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.
>> Yeah. Yeah. It's coming soon.
>> It's coming soon. Yeah. In the Netherlands, I study commercial economic building a brand like how was it for you? How did you do it? Like what were the big obstacles?
>> I've experienced so many ups and downs, you know, the growing my channel. The number I always focus on the number which, you know, made it so tired. I was very you know uh sick of that. So nowadays I change my mind and not focusing on the number but I also enjoying the moment with people.
>> But of course you know establishing own brand let's say never be easy. So try to figure it out every single day. I try to entertain my audience and also try to make me have fun as well. That's maybe one of the most important things otherwise we cannot keep things going steadily.
>> Yeah. Like in the Netherlands, a lot of teachers also told me like the most important thing if you if you go to work is like having fun. A lot of young boys right now are only focused on making a lot of money. I think it's a trend only in Europe. I don't think it's here trend, but like going to Dubai and drop shipping a lot of yeah garbage. They sell like courses to young boys like who also with the promise you're going to get rich fast, but it never works out.
It's always a scam. So we in the Neellis we kind of have like a problem with it right now that young people want to get rich fast and don't think about their own happiness in the work they do.
>> How about you? Do you have any plans after? Do you have any?
>> I'm a really big football fan.
>> I can tell.
>> I actually noticed >> dream would be like working within that club as a kid is your dream to be the football player on the field but I don't think they're going to scout me anymore.
Maybe maybe >> nobody knows. I mean, yeah, you don't give up. Just, you know, >> I don't think so. But like do something else in the the organization. I think it would be really cool. Like football always like has my full full attention.
I always follow follow football international and the national leagues.
Like I think it would be really cool to make them my work. Like I'm already spending all my time on it, so why not get paid for it?
>> Hope you're going to get uh the dream job.
>> Yeah, I hope so. Awesome.
>> Yeah, dream job.
Hey.
>> Hey. How's it going? How's it going?
Good. How are you?
>> Hey, Fasent.
>> Finent. Nice to meet you. My name Toya.
>> Toya.
>> You like here?
>> Yeah, it's fine. It's the hotel is fine.
The neighborhood is a bit worn down, but >> like a lot of drunk people >> every day is true from morning till evening always. But it's fine.
>> Here is a very local place. One of the most deep areas in Osaka. Thanks. But I'm going to show you around today.
>> Look forward to it.
>> This is the last day for you. Last day.
>> I'll go home in August. I live in Ishima.
>> More local side of Osaka, I think.
>> Yeah. Yeah. very little tourist.
>> And what do you study about?
>> No, I take different courses mostly economic but also different courses about Japanese education. I follow a cabana course which is really fun. Two Japanese language courses.
>> But you speak >> a little bit uh A1 level A1 A2 B1 D2 C1 C2.
>> It's not great.
>> But you want to practice your Japanese.
>> I'll try I'll try. It's not that great.
So you got inspired by him, your friend, learning Japanese by any chance?
>> So this is for you. This is for you.
>> Have you ever tried hormonal before?
>> What?
>> Hormon? No, I don't think I ever tried it.
>> Nationality is especially famous for hormone. This and hormon is a grilled pork or beef that offers.
>> Yeah, >> like in China orans. So, this might sound not usual at first, >> but I'm pretty sure it tastes great.
Okay, >> I promise you can try. And this is a thing.
>> Very tender.
>> Almost buttery. It's good >> with the beer. Great combo. I love it.
>> It's nice. It's like really good meat, but maybe the thought of it makes it so weird to eat.
>> You have many that kind of food in Japan. Like it tastes good, but looks or the first impression is not >> usual for you.
>> It's a bit exotic.
>> But why not? What to try?
>> Yeah. Right.
>> Generally, Dutch people are a bit conservative about food and don't try a lot of things that they don't know.
Dutch people are not really used to trying different things.
>> I like this one better than this one.
>> I like this one because it's a bit more tender. I'll try one of the skewers >> and you can put something if you want.
>> He doesn't like spicy food.
>> Okay. No spicy.
>> I would never like sit down here if it wasn't for you because all is in Japanese. It's like a bit too intimidating to to just sit down here and try to order.
>> How many days did you spend here?
>> One week like last Friday I flew in here. So I the first weekend we were in Tokyo and then I was the whole week here in Osaka. We did some day trips to Kyoto and Kobe and Nada. And today's the last day for you.
>> Today's the last day. Tomorrow I will fly back to the Netherlands.
>> You must be missing everything here in Japan.
>> It was really fun experience. Like it's not your usual vacation. If you go vacation in Europe, you have like some reference points. Like some things overlap because you're so close to each other. But here is like completely different.
>> How does it differ from your perspectives?
>> I think the people here are a bit more to themselves. In the Netherlands, I think you will have more connection with the stranger. But we I had like a lot of interviews also here.
>> Interviews?
>> Yeah. The the same day I met you, the out?
>> Yeah. The same day I met you, we the night went out at Dottenbury. We went for some food or something. We walk walking back to our to the the station to go to our hotel and some guy approached us and was like, "Can I interview you two?"
>> And we were like, "Yeah, sure." And he's like, "It's for some dating app his friend made or something." So, we did some interview and we we asked some questions >> twice a day.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. by a person like me.
>> It was weird. So, 22 years of my life, I've been interviewed twice and we're both on the same day. And the other day I went to Kyoto and I was a bit lost by with with the trains. An old guy approached me and he was like, "Where where do you need to go?" Told me he was an English teacher on in a high school.
It was really helpful. But maybe if like Japanese people know more English, maybe they approach you faster.
>> There's much more opportunities than you expected talking to local Japanese people.
>> They were really kind, really helpful.
>> Really kind. Last day, >> last day >> we went out together and we sat next to four girls. He knows a little bit of Japanese so we could listen in a bit and they were only talking about us. At some point they were just like they're just sitting like full on so looking at my friend. It was really weird.
>> They were like just staring and I heard them like, "Oh, where would they be from and how old do you think they are?" And I was like, I know you're talking about me, but I don't want to make it obvious that I know because I kind of find it interesting to know what I'm talking about, >> like if he's dropping or something.
>> Yeah, I was used to >> I'm pretty sure they were really interested in you, too. I think.
>> Yeah. Well, definitely it was a bit obvious.
>> It's a bit Yeah, but also like in the trains like a lot a lot of people here just stare at us. It's it's a bit like uncomfortable like you think am I doing something wrong or something? Maybe.
Where I live in there are not a lot of tourists. Me and the other exchange students are walking around kind of stick out. Really noticed I noticed that you are different around here. Do stick out, >> right? Just feel that or something. Sometimes people give a look.
>> Yeah. At one point we have a class with like uh Japanese uh students and exchange students. We introduced ourselves and everybody kind of knows who you are because when you walk around campus everybody knows like oh they're so tall and European like >> yeah I'm happy to go back because I go unnoticed again I'm just a guy. This is what like a celebrity feels like like only get like stared at like I think they really do like if you see a celebrity look at them you don't really say anything to them. Maybe some people go after them and ask for a picture.
>> I understand both ties. You guys look very cool like a Hollywood to star or something like models that from us from us. I mean you know this is the you know biggest compliment.
>> Yeah we are really making us shy >> admaya like how you look >> that's why maybe people always you know focus on give a look like that to you guys. Doesn't have to be something negative.
>> No boo. Yeah that makes you feel uncomfortable sometimes.
>> Yeah. Some sometimes a lot of eyes are on you. You're like, "Okay, just walked like 20,000 steps a day. You you're tired. Just want to go to the hotel, lay down for a bit."
>> I'm sorry to hear that from uh Paso.
>> Yeah, it is what it is.
>> Maybe vice vers that kind of stare, you think?
>> Well, we have a lot of Asian tourists in in Amsterdam. Maybe if you go like to to the other side of the country, maybe then you will stand out. We we the Dutch back in the day also colonized some parts of Asia. So we have a lot of Asians who migrated to the Netherlands.
>> Like my you have a lot of uh I think the difference is that migration in Japan is like really low like there are a lot of uh very little immigrants and in Netherlands it's getting more and more and we have like every city is fewer with immigrants than with Dutch people themselves. So if we see someone from a different place they're already living there. It's are getting more because our community is like really mixed.
>> You have Indonesian people, Turkish, Moroccan.
>> Some of the countries have such an issue, immigration issues in this day and age and pros and cons, right? And you can experience many types of cultures. On the other side, you have such an issue like the rate of crime has been increasing or >> Yeah. Right now in Netherland people who come from war will seek a refugee. If a big party in the Netherlands right now completely against like immigration and want to close the borders, it's making the Netherlands like a lot more hostile to each other. So, so it's becoming a bit of a problem.
>> Thank you.
It's a really cool experience to have a local show around >> around this area. I don't think you can see many foreigners >> too local too deep.
Maybe on the way to hotel.
>> It's only it's only here for for the hotel and just go back to the center. By the way, that's only >> if you walk then go left. Our hotel is like 1 minute away. We walk here a few times. Most of the time when we walk late at night and you only have drunk people sing karaoke. So then we were like I just walk past it.
>> You guys go to the same university or different >> same different uh like a university of Amsterdam. So it is like >> quite big. It's quite big. It has like six locations. So in in location so you study for commercial stuff >> commercial economics >> commercial economics just like marketing you would hire me then I would look into how make your children bigger how you can reach more people >> like like that's the thing I learned in school >> right and you are studying forational international business >> I chose a major in finance and control and then they went deeper into the finance part job I would like the most to have would be business developer that would be like a consultant for small business who wants to grow where then I joined business for 6 months, 12 months.
But >> to do that, I need to do a masters, which takes another year. I might do it, but I don't I'm still deciding because I could just do one extra year. But on the other hand, I'm not that great at school. It takes a bit of discipline to to do so.
What do you recommend as a local?
>> You mean beer? A drink?
>> Whatever.
>> I always go for this. Long or short?
>> Uh, long.
>> Long.
Why not?
>> Okay. One, two, three.
>> Yes.
>> Okay. Do you have another one?
>> Whatever you want. Whatever you want.
>> Let's take Let's take a look.
>> The best Japanese beer there is.
Personally, Kim Mugit. This is the best for me.
>> Okay, let's try. Let's get him.
>> Okay.
>> Do you like sweet snack?
>> Yeah, I do. I do.
>> What is your favorite sweet snack?
>> I'm a stereotypically chocolate lover.
>> I'm awesome.
>> Chocolate. We have a lot of chocolate here. Or rice cracker. I'm a big fan of rice cracker.
>> Rice cracker.
>> Rice cracker. Yeah, rice cracker. We can have a mix one. Mix one.
>> Okay, let's do the mix one. All right.
Okay. And one sweet snack. Let's find one sweet snack. What's on the other side?
>> Okay, let's take one. Okay, >> let's go.
>> Have a have a good time. Have a good time.
>> People here are always drunk. Like in the morning, in the evening, uh Monday, Tuesday, every day when I walk here, they're always drunk. But that's why host are very cheap. I think >> I get now why it's so cheap, but I don't mind. I think it's fine.
>> Do you know the Dutch word for tears?
>> Tell me. It's bro >> is the same as German.
Heat. Heat.
Where are my finger?
Heat. Heat.
