Indian Man Faces Trolls Over American GF Pics | Indians AbroadAdded:
A story from the United States is getting a lot of attention online and it shows how social media can sometimes turn negative very quickly. An Indian origin man named Krishna Patel shared a simple photo online and this photo showed his girlfriend voting in an election in the US state of Virginia.
It was part of something that was called as referendum where people vote for yes or no in a public issue. But after he posted a photo, many people on social media started trolling him.
Some users made rude comments that were very hurtful. They questioned whether he should even be in the United States and wrongly claimed that he should not be allowed to vote. Well, this made Krishna respond. He explained that he is not a foreigner. He said that he was born in the United States in California. He also shared that even his parents were born there and only his grandparents immigrated to the US many many years ago. He clearly said, "I am an American." Unquote.
Well, Krishna also tried to explain and briefly said that American is not about the skin color. It is in fact about being born in the country [music] and being a legal citizen.
He also even compared himself to Ronald Reagan to show [music] that he is just an American that anyone else is.
However, online argument did not stop there. Some people continued to post angry and offensive messages, basically racially targeting him. They talked about race, immigration, and even made threats about deportation.
While others questioned his identity and religion. Krishna replied to some of them trying to defend himself. Later, he explained that [music] he comes from a Hindu family but personally does not follow any religion. He also said that his loyalty towards United States is full-fledged.
Well, this situation shows something really important.
Social media can be a place where people share their lives but it can also turn toxic and become a place where people face hate and misunderstanding. [music] Well, sometimes people judge others based just on their skin color, background without even knowing the full truth. It also highlights a bigger issue in many countries. Questions about identity, belongingness, and who gets to call a place home. Even though the situation became heated, Krishna stood up for himself and explained his side of the story.
