This critique effectively dismantles the show's failure to balance crude humor with serious drama, proving that aesthetic excess cannot hide a lack of narrative discipline. It is a sharp reminder that meaningful storytelling requires consistency rather than just shock value and overdesigned visuals.

Helluva Boss is Incredibly Painful to Watch | Video Essay
Added:Hang on. Someone else is going to live in this place. We got to move.
All right. Welcome to my new location and welcome back to my channel. My name is Cyrus and today we'll be looking at Hell of a Boss.
This is a show that a lot of you have been requesting me to check out. As much as I love watching shows about Jesus, Superbook, I think it'd be interesting to watch a show about the damned. Hell of a Boss is an indie animated show created by Viven Madano. Lovely name, by the way. But is she a lovely person?
From what I've heard, she's massively disliked. But I don't care what kind of person she is. If you don't know this, I separate the art from the artist because I firmly believe that is how you properly review a show, movie, novel, song, etc. You shouldn't say it's bad because the one who made it is a bad person in real life. You should only say it's bad if they did a bad job. Simple as that. Keep in mind, just because I separate the art from the artist doesn't mean I excuse them. I flurking love this painting by Adolf Hitler. Does that mean I excuse what he Not even a question.
Anyway, Vivian Madano, also known as Vivy Popop on YouTube. Did I say that right? Vivy Popop. She's someone who makes animations and songs. Best known for Hasbin Hotel and Hell of a Boss. Her two magnumopuses that became massive hits on YouTube, gaining from 70 plus million views to 120 plus million views.
Dang. I first discovered Hell of a Boss on social media platforms and school. I initially wanted to do Hasbin first, but I eventually changed plans and checked out Hell of a Boss because that came out first, right? Oh, never mind. False memory. Well, despite that they take place within the same fictional universe, I think it doesn't matter which one you start with since they have their own separate stories. Next time we'll talk about Hasbin. As for this video, we'll be discussing Hell of a Boss. Not going to lie, that's a cool name. Way better than Hella Boss. Go play with yourself, Chloe. I have a confession to make. I was initially going to review the show all the way to the season 2 finale, but I failed. Yeah, I was not able to make it. Usually, I can handle bad TV shows and movies, especially if they're so bad they're good. I love The Room for crying out loud, but this one is anomalistic. It's so bad I eventually tapped out from pain. I just couldn't take it anymore.
I'm sorry. So, this will be my first and last hell of a boss video. Before we talk about how bad it is, let's start with some positives.
The animation is pure eye candy. It's so expressive, colorful, smooth, and fluid.
It's one of the main reasons why I got interested in watching this show. And to think this is an indie show. I have so much respect for small independent studios that manage to make beautiful art like this. It's simply breathtaking to look at. The pilot is the worst looking episode in my opinion. Yet, it still looks fantastic. That speaks volumes of how talented the animators are. Aside from the directors and the writers, the animators deserve the most credit. I respect them with all my heart, as well as the character designers. Very complex and over-the-top. Although, some character designs are too much. We'll get to those later. The voice acting, I've never heard of any of these guys in other shows. So, this was a good introduction cuz they did a staggering job giving their characters life and personality.
You can tell that they were having a lot of fun voicing them.
>> It's fun that I get to I get to go to a place and scream in front of a bunch of people.
>> Yeah, it's like every day dream.
>> The only voice actor in this show that I'm familiar with is Christina V, who voiced Verasica Mayday. We all know her as the one who provided the voice for Hasse from River City Girls. I remember playing that game in 2021, was it? Or 2022. Her performance as Verasica is great. Of course, it's Christina V. She is truly great at what she does. She has one hell of a resume. That, my friends, is what kung fu is all about. What do I mean by that? Permission to go off topic for a while. Permission granted. Many people around the world, including my former self, assume that kung fu is all about kicking ass, being really good at martial arts. That is somewhat correct, but not entirely correct. Kung fu is not only about kicking ass.
>> Stop saying ass.
>> It can also be about business management, driving, or in this case, voice acting. Kung fu literally means skill obtained via hard work. It lives in how animators and voice actors do their job. It lives in everything that requires skill. It lives in how we treat people.
>> Everything is kung fu. I finally understand what he meant by that. And I firmly believe Christina V is a kung fu expert in voice acting and singing.
She's fantastic, bro. Speaking of which, I never expected Hell of a Boss to be a musical. So many episodes have song numbers. Nearly all of them. Or maybe all of them have song numbers, and they're a hit or miss. We'll tackle them as we go. So, those were the good stuff.
I hope you enjoyed listening to me praising Hell of a Boss because from here on out it's going to be hell of a boss.
The pilot introduces the four main characters and what they do for a living, if you could even call this living. Basically, their business is called Immediate Murder Professionals, IMP for short. They kill for revenge seekers. This guy's name is Blitz, voiced by Brandon Rogers. He's the boss, the hell of a boss of Millie, voiced by Erica Lindbeck. Moxy, voiced by Richard Horvitz. And Luna, fun fact, Luna and Millie have the same voice actor. Only in the pilot. The rest of the series, Millie is voiced by Vivien Nixon. Let's cut to the chase, this episode is not good. For one, it's kind of confusing.
At first, I can comprehend what was being established. For instance, the commercial and jingle that they were arguing about in the meeting room. But when they get to Luna, we cut to multiple flashbacks about Luna, establishing who she is and how she's been doing as an employee. But then it suddenly wanted to change topic, i.e. how Blitz got access to the human world after he slept with a birdman. I was initially confused, but I got more confused when it cuts to Blitz talking to the birdman that he ghosted. He did ghost him, right? Here's a better question. Are we still talking about Luna here? Are we still in this meeting room or did we cut into a completely different scene and that we're done with this portion? Turns out the answer is we're still in this meeting room. I swear the first time I watched this, I lost direction. The episode lost me.
Bro, I'm still trying to get to know Luna. Why do you want me to suddenly care about this stupid book and the Birdman? What an unexpected virtue of ignorance. If you want to introduce an entirely new character, don't do it in the middle of an introduction of another character. You could have just waited until Luna's introduction is finished, then cut back to the room and then show a flashback of the Birdman by bringing up this book, or even better, save him for another episode. This was such a fascinating flaw. Other than that, the pilot is annoyingly stupid. They could have introduced these guys in other ways that could make me like them or root for them or at least make me interested in them. But sadly, that little kid was right. They all suck. a bunch of unendurable caricatures. Blitz is a loud and annoying boss. Millie barely did anything. Luna hates everyone and everything, nothing more. And Moxy is probably the best, or rather the least worst. Nothing's likable about these guys, and they're hardly funny. As of now, I'm having a difficult time getting behind them. First impressions may not be everything, but it's still something.
And my impressions of the Four Stooges and the Birdman are poor. Very, very poor. Talk about engaging your audience on opposite day. By the way, since this show is a musical, does the commercial jingle count as a song? If yes, then we're off to a maddening start. Oh, Millie is better, but that's not saying much. I did not like Moxy's voice. I did not like the pilot. Three out of 10.
Welcome to hell. Okay, I did some research and I realized I was chewing over a non-cannon episode. Yeah, this is not canon apparently. I still hate it.
Mission Zero is the true cannon pilot of Hell of a Boss. I think it's slightly better. They unveiled Stalis precisely this time, and I like the ending song, the first Hell of a Boss song that I enjoy. But the key phrase here is slightly better. This episode is still overly obnoxious. It did nothing to make me like the main four, much less give a darn about them. And truthfully, it's boring and forgettable. Not worth analyzing at all. Four out of 10.
Unmemorable as hell. The episode begins with a song exasperating in my opinion.
A teacher went to hell for getting revenge cuz her husband cheated on her.
Now she asked IMP for the same thing because somehow her victim survived.
Vengeance hasn't been fully served. They go to the human world to kill her. But Moxy is conflicted since he doesn't like the idea of killing innocents.
Apparently, they're not innocent. As they say, humans tend to have dark secrets underneath, which is why they often end up underneath. And that's true for these guys. They're revealed to be cannibals. I think this episode is fun.
If it wasn't for the overwhelming mean-spiritedness, I generally love mean-spirited shows. They're so entertaining. If not done well, it makes it completely unwatchable. Re-watching Hell of a Boss, I think I've come to the conclusion that Murder Family is the most mean-spirited episode. I understand the situation they're in. They're trying to run a business, and that is generally stressful, especially if the said business is about killing people without getting caught. I can empathize with characters going through tough times, but it can be a bit too much to the point where my connection with them disappears. The constant bickering and yelling is understandable, but largely stupid. To illustrate, look at the way Blitz talked to his client impolitely and ask for backup because she's deranged. Bro, you're the one who pissed her off. Don't expect her to not act like that. When he missed the target because of Moxy, he yelled at him as if now is the best time. You fired a shot.
Don't you think they heard that? Don't you think you should move your kesters?
Oh, look. She's now after you. The plan to kill her is getting ruined. What did you think was going to happen after you made a lot of noise? From that point on, I just want to see him burn. He's garbage. That just means he's flawed, Cyrus. Flawed? Yes. Charming? No.
Endurable? No. Funny? Absolutely not.
Interesting? Yes.
By far, I do not like Blitz as a protagonist. They did their job in the end. Moxy learned his lesson, but still conflicted about what he did. I don't care. Get to the next one. Overall, Murder Family is mean-spirited. Not in a fun way, but in a frustrating way. 3.5 out of 10. Annoying as hell. This guy's name is Stalis, aka the Birdman. At first, he was voiced by Brock Baker, which was such a surprise, but after that, Bryce Pinkham took over. Stalles wakes up to comfort his daughter, Octavia. She's voiced by Juliana Sada, who sounds like an 18-year-old. I was looking all over the palace.
>> I am not a weenie.
>> Stala started to sing her a song. It's called You Will Be Okay. It's so intimate and relaxing, and I like singing along to it. Additionally, it looks amazing. Cutting to the present time, we get to the second song, My World is Burning around me, which I like as well. Octavia is now voiced by Barrett Weed, who also sang the song that she's listening to right now. She's listening to herself sing. Relatable.
After Stalis gets into a fight with his wife, played by Georgina Leehy, he takes his daughter to Luluand with the help of security.
>> I'm calling the only man who can me.
>> From the ends of the earth, I call to you. I call as my heart grows faint.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2. The three stooges go to the carnival as bodyguards, not assassins. Unorthodox. When they get to the circus, a robotic version of Fizeri, a character that will debut later on, voiced by Alex Brightman, sings the Lulu Land song. Terrible. All I'm saying, it's just not my thing. Wait, it is my thing. I enjoy listening to songs that have intense vocals. I flurking love John Mess from DanceGavin Dance for Pete's sake. The difference is Robo Fizz's voice is irritating. Sounds like he's choking. have a dream. I'm here to tell you.
>> It's not beautiful like John Mess or Will Swan. I'm sure a lot of people think it's great. I'm not one of them.
Speaking of Fizeri, I distinctly remember seeing him for the first time in VR chat. Dang, that was a long time ago. I never knew he was in this show. I always thought he was uh in Five Nights at Freddy's because, you know, he's a robot. He's an animatronic. So, Five Nights at Freddy's. Anywh who, Octavia got lost and Stalis looks for her. He tried to have a heart-to-he heart conversation since Octavia is worried that her dad might leave her because he's so in love with Blitz and not her own mother. The show is now serious.
Woo! I don't care. You want to know why?
It's quite simple, really. Stalis was being an inept and unpleasant father.
Taking your daughter to an amusement park just to flirt with the bodyguard you hired is scenile. It's like he was only using Octavia as an excuse to hang out with Blitz. In the end, he made up with his daughter, which was under the wire and pointless. He hasn't changed later on.
>> Yeah. Well, [ __ ] you then.
>> Stalles made it up with his daughter and the episode ends. Four out of 10 awkward as hell. The episode opens with Blitz screaming.
>> Come on, man. We're just getting the ball rolling. Could you at least keep it down? The four stooges come across Blitz's ex-girlfriend, Verasica Mayday, who stole their parking spot. Similar to Blitz, she has a hellhound, but as a bodyguard, not as an adopted son or whatever. His name is Vortex, played by James Monroe Igelhart. Ah, yes, finally get to talk about this guy. Vortex is my favorite character in the show. He's the only one in Hell of a Boss that has any likable traits. He's the only one that's not over-the-top, noisy, stupidly provoking, disgusting, vulgar, crazy, and all that stuff. He's just a normal guy. For a show like this, he really stands out. Alongside Octavia, I guess she's pretty normal as well, but she's missing one thing that Vortex has, likability. He is one cool looking dog.
By the way, you've heard of people who fall in love with fictional characters.
I don't judge. Well, have you ever heard of someone who wishes to be best friends with a fictional character? That's me. I wouldn't mind sharing a bucket of chicken with this guy. Anyhow, Blitz challenges Verasica to get his parking space back. The plan is to use Luna as human bait for murder since she has a human disguise. You know who else has a human disguise?
He looks cooler than ever. He disguises himself to protect Verasica while she sings vacay to skeleton town. It sounds nice cuz it's Christina V. Need more be said. Imagine singing this to your significant other. A monster emerged from Verasica's drink. Millie killed the monster and they somehow won the bet.
The end credits played a song number called Mustang song. It sounded great.
If it wasn't for Blitz's aggravating voice, you tore me apart.
>> Yeah, I get it. It's funny when people try to sing along to their favorite songs.
>> That's what this is attempting, but failed. Being funny is obviously different from being nettlesome. When my ears absorb this abomination, I already feel like abandoning everyone and everything I love. If that's what it takes to stop Blitz from singing.
So, that was spring broken. Incredibly irksome. The scene with the giant fish ended so quick it's forgettable. And you know, my dream right now is to get off my chair, grab a stapler, and staple this guy's mouth. To tell you the truth, when I first heard of Hell of a Boss, I thought it was going to be about Verasica since everyone kept on discussing her. I think it'd be better if she is the main character or Vortex.
That'd be so cool because I can't stand Blitz. Voice actor is good for what he does, but he's so unbearable. And that is unfortunate considering that he's the main protagonist. It'd be fine if he's on the side or a minor, but the main?
Are you flarking nuts? I can't even tolerate this guy. I haven't laughed at him so far, except for that HR joke. Am I expected to be drunk while watching him? The main concern I have with Blitz is, how should I say, the writers are pushing it too far when making him funny, wild, and edgy? These characteristics are fine, but why do you have to be so on then about it? It's excruciating. You might end up overshadowing his flaws and character development that I am assumed to acknowledge and sympathize with, and that is exactly what happened. There's nothing wrong with a flawed, uncarismatic protagonist, but the portrayal here seems excessive and trit.
Chaotic characters come in many different forms. Some are good, some are bad. They can be a fun roller coaster ride, a monster in the closet that keeps you up at night, a tragic, heartbreaking novel, an article that makes you wonder, or an alarm clock that won't turn off.
He's become so irksome it's hard to see him as anything more than a joke. I dub the a lead character that I can never ever take seriously. Frankly, he reminds me of that stupid blue dragon from Ryan the Last Dragon. She's a character who had touching moments outweighed by her exceedingly unbelievably annoying personality. Asking me to feel sad for them, let alone take them seriously is like asking me to escape the mafia all by myself. You really think that's possible? Blitz is a possible contender for the most vexacious fictional character of all time. Spring Broken might as well be a case study of Blitz's impossible vexation. The only saving grace is, of course, Vortex. Tex for short. Less screen time, but I'd rather watch a 10-hour version of his screen time than watching anyone else, especially Blitz and Stalis. Five out of 10. Tex is cool as hell. I've officially watched three episodes. I have every right to move on from Hell of a Boss if I don't like it so far. Well, so far, this show is giving me nothing but Scott. But let's keep watching. I want to see if there will be another normal character like Tex. That's literally the only reason why the monkey on my back wants me to continue. Pure curiosity. We begin with a commercial jingle. Reminds me of IMP's commercial jingle. Just as aggravating, if not even more aggravating after watching and destroying one of their TVs. A new client walks in. Dr. Octopus. Dr. Octopus looks amazing. But why does he have to sound plagy which is what brought me here?
Do we not have enough characters with plaguy voices? He's actually voiced by Brandon Rogers. Figures. Do wants them to kill the man who took all the credit for their school project played by Michael James Roco who is about to commit suicide, but the angels from heaven or cherub was it arrived to convince him that life is worth living no matter how bad it gets. They're played by Don Daryl Rivera, Jaden Liberin, and Vivy Pop herself. Vivy Pop playing an angel. Is that ironic or I don't care if it is. The demons and angels fight for this old man's fate.
Sounds like a fun story. But I have a problem and it's the same problem as ever. It's way too annoying to be enjoyed. Hell of a boss in a nutshell.
The three stooges are bad enough. Doc O made everything worse. If you think your ears can't take it no more, too bad.
These angels are on a whole other level.
It's like we're in a competition right now. Who's the most vexing character in Hell of a Boss? I was expecting them to be the opposite of the demons. They are because they like good things, but they're as gling as them, if not more.
The way they perpetually drag the old man from one place to another. The way they keep on opening their mouth.
Intelligible that they're no longer accepted in heaven because deep down they're not so different. So, who should I be rooting for? I hate IMP. I hate Cherub. I hate everyone. Accordingly, I don't want to see either team win.
Whatever. At least the episode itself is fun, right? No, I don't think so. The comedy is lame. It relies heavily on pure shock value, and it's overzealous for edgginess. Like, you can tell how desperate they are. Nothing clever was done.
>> And here you'll find three tacky stalkers about to attempt a murder.
Things like this can happen to famous people all the time.
>> Get it? It's funny cuz it's true. I guess so. But I didn't like the delivery. It's the type of joke that needs a laughing track. Without it, it's awkward. I just don't get it. What is the main goal they had in mind when they made this? To persuade me that smashing my TV is a justifiable reaction because of how often the characters ruffle my feathers? Who the flark is this show made for? LGBT people. Guys, you're better off watching The Owl House. I swear you'd be doing yourselves a favor.
This episode does one thing only. It makes you check the time, hoping that it'll be over soon. After they failed to save the old man, he went to hell and reunited with his best friend. They both look remarkable. Cherub is a failed attempt at making a funny and enjoyable Looney Tunesque filler episode. Sorry, I didn't mean to insult Looney Tunes. 3.5 out of 10. Insufferable as hell. We begin with the aftermath of Stalis and Blitz's science project. Stalles invites him to the Wrath Ring for the Harvest Moon Festival. That's where one of his employees used to live, so he accepts.
These are Milliey's parents, played by Edward Bosow and Sue Jan Chase. And please correct me if I'm saying any of their names wrong. She has a sister named Sally May played by Morgana Ignis.
They have someone to help them on their farm. His name is Striker. Amazing looking character. He's played by Edward Bosow, but in this episode only, he's played by Norman Reedus. Yes, I said that.
>> Norman Reedus in Hell of a Boss. Are you flaring kidding me? That's like casting Alpuccino in a terrible Adam Sandler movie. He's too good to be here. I'm glad he stopped voicing him because he was too busy with other projects. Good.
People can't get over that he left. I can't get over that he was there in the first place. By the way, did you know that based on my research, Norman Reedus liked Hasbin Hotel? Okay, Hasbin Hotel has got to be good. If someone like him enjoyed it, enjoyed it ironically or sincerely. Anyways, Moxy volunteered to be in the games. He sucked. It's your typical I got to prove myself to my wife's parents type story. Boring. After the games, Norman Rita sings us a song called Striker song. It's nice, but I wish it was longer. Later, Moxy found out that Striker is planning to kill someone, and that is Stalis. He's bad after all. Not going to lie, Harvest Moon Festival is mostly incippid, but things picked up when the twist came to light. Honestly, I kind of knew this was happening because just look at him. He looks dangerous. So, he's bad, isn't he?
Why is he killing Stalis? The inducement isn't anything mind-blowing, which is a huge bummer. I was expecting something more enthralling. Instead, this badass killing machine was instructed to assassinate Stalis by probably the most unexciting character in the whole show.
I was so close to getting invested thanks to this plot twist. But when they unveil his true intentions, I was like, "Okay, I'm instantly going to forget about this." Just like how I instantly forgot about Stalis's wife. What can I say about Well, I don't even remember her name. Uh, she's angry that her husband is cheating on her. What else?
Uh, her favorite food is uh, I don't know. Get away from me. And that was Harvest Moon Festival. Generic and boring with a twist that made everything exciting, but said twist had an incipid foundation. So, still boring. Over and above that, this episode didn't do justice to Millie. We got to see her family, but not her interestingness.
Yeah, I never knew that's a word. I still think she's boring, bro. Four out of 10. Boring as hell. Moxy and Blitz got captured by the FBI. Turns out they've been watching them all this time. Yeah, watching while they were in front of Millie. Really hard to spot these cameras, huh? Perhaps they're invisible cameras or they're too lazy to whatever. Luna and Millie are out to save them. The FBI agents resort to using the truth bomb to force the truth out of them. All that happened was they become honest with each other.
>> I'm a virgin. As they continue to absorb the gas, they began to hallucinate and sing. It's called Moxy's Bad Trip. I don't like it, but I sort of appreciate its artistry. It's like two songs melded together, meant to look and feel crazy, which is exactly what these two are undergoing. Not enjoyable, but appreciable. Incidentally, while the animation is amazing, it's not eye candy all the time. Look at Moxy's face. You can clearly see the blocking lines. It's as if they didn't have time to finish polishing. I guess it's because this animation is so smooth, it must have triggered their limitations. They couldn't handle it. After all that scut, Blitz and Moxy shed some light in the darkness. Oh, Crimea River, I don't care. Luna and Millie saved them, and here comes a fight scene, aka one of the only reasons why Hell of a Boss is worth checking out. What can I say about this that hasn't been said already? Um, it's almost perfect. I hated some components.
Has anyone ever said that? Question.
Does animation have choreography? Yes.
Just like live action movies, it consists of planning and arranging movements and sequences. Look at this part where Luna got the first kill. It is a perfect exemplification of bad choreography. Another example of this show's animation flaws. I didn't even see what she used on her, the chain or the sickle. The camera was moving too much for its own good. It's disorienting. Were they pushing their limitations? Earlier they messed up Moxy's face. Now they're thinking, "Okay, we can definitely do better than that, guys. But ma'am, we have our own limits. Have mercy. Shut up and do better than your best." This is what happens when you try too hard. Sometimes it's better to take it easy, bro. The entire fight scene looks superb, except for this small portion. And the music is dog water. Am I the only one who didn't like it? It sounds wretched to me.
They were so proud of it, they replayed it in the end credits. I hate this music. Why do you think I want to listen to it again? The four stooges get trapped, but Stalis saves them. Needless to say, it's a fantastic scene. The FBI agents caught footage of the demons, and they lived happily ever after. A fun, action-packed episode with character development that I couldn't care less about. Moxy is fine, but I've made up my mind about Blitz. He can burn in hell for all I care. Oh, wait. 6.5 out of 10.
Dope as hell.
We are now at the finale of season Uno.
specifically the first part of the finale. The following chapter is part two. You know what? Let's review both of them as I see them as one whole installment. Moxy takes Millie out for a date for their marriage anniversary.
Blitz wants to follow and stalk them because that's what he does. He tried to get into the club but was kicked to where he belonged. So, he calls Stalles for help, who was in the middle of watching a TV show, which is far more gripping than what I'm watching right now. Blitz and Stalis go on a date for the sake of stalking on Millie and Moxy.
Hey, Patrick. What am I now?
>> Uh, stupid.
>> Meanwhile, the real Fizzeri or Fizzy makes an appearance on stage. Did I mention his voice is irritating?
>> I am the one and only Fizeri. Gloriously designed.
>> He introduces the one and only Aussie, his boyfriend, played by Vortex. And this is officially the first character design in Hell of a Boss that I hate.
The designers were doing a great job up to this point. I love complex designs, but this player is too much. I don't know what I'm looking at. Doesn't matter cuz I hate it. There is this thing called overdesign where a character looks way too complex for their own good. Everyone has their own tastes. So, if you like this, that's fine. I just don't. What I hate the most about his appearance is the additional heads. Are those heads or what are those? Do they need to be there? Sometimes they don't stay in one place. I hate it. Hey guys, this is Cyrus from the editing room. And after thinking about it, I don't think this design is too much. I don't think it's overdesigned at all. But I still hate it simply because the colors don't mix well in my opinion.
This color right here, I don't know what this color is called exactly, but I just don't think it mixes well with red, black, and all these other colors.
And also these things, I I don't know what they're called. I hate them. They just don't work for me. He's about to sing us a song called House of Osmodius.
It's a great song. I didn't like the opening part because Moxy's voice. I don't like it. It isn't good. Not bad either. But the fact that I didn't like that part makes the rest of the song impactful. Like finally it gets exciting. I love Vortex's voice. And when Verasica joined in, it got more exciting. As they sing, Blitz and Stalis get in on the action since they're experiencing the meaning of the song. By the end, Moxy finishes the song mediocrely. Never knew that's a word.
This looks romantic, but I just can't pour my heart out to this particular ship, mostly because of Millie. Moxy is okay, but Millie is not. But who cares?
This isn't even about them. It's about Blitz and Stalis. Right after the song is finished, Blitz wrote him home. Don't act like what we have is anything but you wanting me to [ __ ] you. Okay, you make that really clear all the time.
>> Okay, now you're just making it way too obvious that they're going to end up together. Duh. We're not meant for each other. No, we are meant for each other.
Shut up, man. You're spoiling the audience. Touche. Credit where credits do. At least they're foreshadowing future events, but I don't like how obvious they made it. Something too obvious isn't interesting. Going back to his apartment, he looks at his phone and cries. On to the next part. Once upon a time, Luna attends a party. Invited by text, she's there to make new friends.
Oh, look, a female dog. And she acts like a female dog.
The Queen Bee, aka Billy Bub, played by Kesha, as in Kesha, sings a song for the crowd. Cotton Candy is great. It's one of the best songs in the whole show, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
Admittedly, I despised it at first. I thought it was generic, and the chorus is cringe. However, as I listened to it again and again, it grew on me. The singer is magnificent. Rashelle Diamante's voice is something else.
Without a doubt, the best singing voice in Hell of a Boss, aside from Christina V. I don't care how generic Cotton Candy is. Rashelle is a goddess. Bill Zebub's appearance is another example of overdesign. I don't mind her looking like a fox cuz throughout fiction history, Bill Zybub looks like a lot of things, including a naked baby. What I hate is her lava ponytail. Having four arms, wings, and a lava tail is quite enough for my taste. Why does she need to have a lava ponytail and lava waist?
It seems redundant. Get rid of them. Or get rid of the four arms. Just give her two arms. Or get rid of the wings. Or get rid of her. You know, Luna gets to meet her. And being the socially awkward mofo she is, she got embarrassed and called Blitzo for a ride home.
>> The O is silent, ass.
>> Oh, right. I I I totally forgot to mention Blitzo has a silent O in his name.
>> Nope.
>> I'm calling him that because I have no respect for him. I should have called him that from the beginning. Now that I think about it, stupid Blitzo. Blitzo was offered to go have fun.
>> Okay, fine. Maybe one drink.
>> Wait, don't tell me.
>> You are in fact not going to get one drink. We are instantly going to cut away to a scene where you are drinking your life away. Do they really think this overused, predictable, cliche joke is still funny?
>> Who's the one idiot who keep falling for this and encourages this cliche?
>> Question. Why exactly was Blitz so convinced to join the party in the first place? Luna changed her mind. She didn't want to leave after looking at this guy who she never talked to. So what was the point of him? The answer is plot convenience. He existed only for Luna to tell Blitzo to party and accept Bilzyub's drinking challenge. Nobody has beaten her, she said. Not a single soul, she said. Is that true? Because Blitzo was able to beat her with no effort and lived to see the next day. Is this plot armor? I'd argue that it is because the consequence that he faced wasn't believable. Allow me to radioinate by using an example, a hypothetical example. A student beat another student to death and it was not an accident. He wanted that to happen because he's so evil. Everyone in the school knows he did it. Yet the only punishment he faced was detention. No expulsion, no prison, just weekly afterclass detention. How does that make sense? How does it make sense canonically for Blitzo to simply barf after drinking who knows what?
Isn't he supposed to die from alcohol poisoning? Isn't that why Bilzy is unbeaten? This drink is too much for mere imps and not for a highranking demon like her. If only Bill Zybub would elaborate on her status as the undefeated drinker. Are you sure that nobody has beaten you? No one defeated you because nobody wants to or nobody can. If the answer is nobody can, then this is a definitive plot armor moment.
He survived drinking that thing when he wasn't meant to survive. A propo of that, I thought Queen Bee was about Luna going to a party and befriending other dogs. Since when was it about Blitzo contemplating? because this is meant to be a continuation of the previous episode. Okay, so 95% of this episode wasted my time, huh? I didn't need to see Luna go to a party, meet Billsybub and all these female dogs. You could just cut them out and nothing will change. All I needed to see was the end.
It was only a couple of seconds. You could have shown that in the previous chapter. Queen Bee is pretty much pointless. Yet, strangely, it's the most rewatchable because text, he's so cool.
Though this finale is overall dumb.
First part was mostly uninteresting.
It's nothing but boring couple stuff with a giant blinking neon sign that says, "These two characters who you don't care about sincerely will end up together in the end. Their chemistry by far is so questionable. It's not because it's a same-sex relationship. I would react the same way if they were a boy and a girl. I hate the relationship because it's nothing but a toxic joke.
Although calling it toxic is a massive understatement and both of them are mockeries of the very fabric of imagination itself. Now all of the sudden it wants to be sincere and heart-rending. Flark you. Also the continuation Queen Bee is a waste of time. Five out of 10 dull as hell. And yes, the TV show Stalles was watching was unputd downable by comparison. The end credits played a song called Monster Ball. Not too bad.
Here we have a backstory episode explaining how Stalles fell in love with Blitzo from the day they met when they were kids. Yeah, turns out they knew each other since childhood because Stalles's father bought Blitzo to give him a friend. This is meant to expand Stalles's character. It also unfolded how Blitzo got access to the human world by sleeping with Stalis so he could steal his grimmooire. All I can say is my gosh it was so boring man. I tell you what that whole thing was so damn boring. I come must the gums the pain on mine man just sitting up standing up trying to keep my eyes open and whatn not but sure they g heavier and heavier I felt on my brain got checked out for I was getting gone I'm talking about n right there in the middle of it man they never fell asleep man tell you what here's the problem throughout season 1 Stalus' dreadful past was never established never brought up as well as his childhood friendship with Blitzo I never saw either of them discuss or recall their friendship in any way they did nothing to inaugurate this piece of information beforehand So, this feels like a retcon rather than a recontextualization. Again, it feels like a retcon. It's not literally a redcon. They just jump straight to the point without having a kosher setup.
That's like answering a question that I didn't even ask in the first place. How am I supposed to care about this? They could have developed their dynamic further before disclosing this. They could have developed Stalis further.
From my own point of view, it's okay if you don't want to foreshadow a character's backstory as long as it's consistent with his character. And more fundamentally, as long as you've done enough to make me care about Stalis to the point where I would be intrigued to know more about him. But no, I don't care if this is in line with his character because I don't care about Stalis in a meaningful way at all. Thus, I don't care about his upbringing. He's been nothing but a tool for stupid comedy. He does have a soft side. Way too underdeveloped in my opinion.
Instead of understanding or sympathizing with Stalis, I just kept on wondering why is this suddenly important. In contrast, take a look at AMD and Velma's backstory in the Owl House season 1.
That was executed a lot better because not only did I end up caring about these two, but also their recollection has buildup that was noticeable, thought-provoking, and was spread throughout the first season like peanut butter on a piece of toast. It got me curious. The way they spread peanut butter on that toast was done excellently. It wasn't too much and it wasn't too less, which made the payoff satisfying. Hell of a Boss, on the other hand, just says, "Forget about buildup.
Let's just show his past for the sake of showing things." If this is meant to be the very, very, very first chapter, then I could accept this. But no, so many things happened already. And this feels like it's missing a lot of things.
There's not enough emotional investment.
There's not enough peanut butter. At least Blitzo's past was clearly hinted at thanks to Robo Fizz bringing it up.
And Blitzo is a lot more developed than Stalis. So, this should have been about Blitzo, not him. Don't get me wrong, I still wouldn't take it seriously if it was about Blitzo because it's Blitzo.
But as far as backstories go, his would work a lot better than Stalles's.
Honestly, why bother showing Stalles' history when you can always tell me how he became the way he is? because there's nothing more than forced exposition. I'm not kidding. In this scene, they literally had Stalis explain everything you need to know. So, basically, you don't need to watch the episode. Just skip to the ending.
>> You and I were arranged for >> I don't want to hear about it.
>> Prior to that, Stalis sings a song called Stala Sings. That's the name of the song. Really? Uh, so stupid. You know what else is stupid? My mom.
>> Exactly, bro. That's another thing about this origin story. Not only did it fail to make me care about Stalis, but it also made his wife so much worse. In season 1, there was a possibility that she wanted this marriage to work. Look at how mad she was at Stalis for sleeping with an >> While I do think calling a hitman to kill your husband who's cheating on you is wrong. The reality remains Stalis is a cheater. He's the one who let the dogs out, he's not the innocent victim here.
>> I just want to go home.
But home doesn't even feel like home anymore.
>> You ruined it.
>> The way I see it, they're both garbage.
This episode completely invalidated that. Turns out Stalis is innocent.
There was no love to begin with. His wife never gave him any love or compassion. She's always been a one-dimensional monster. I mean, why would she be mad at him for cheating?
What was she expecting to happen? Why would she go as far as to call a flarking hitman? Looking back at those moments, they no longer make sense. I don't know what she wants anymore. Does she want Stalus to be a better husband, or does she want to simply kill him? Why is she like this? She was possibly born evil, Cyrus. Okay, that can work. Not every villain needs a reason, but I firmly believe that every villain needs to be at the very least interesting.
Maleficent is a villain that's pure evil with no sympathetic or sensible reason.
In spite of that, she's still fun to watch because of her complex personality. She can be cunning, sarcastic, calm, elegant, charismatic.
She has a beautiful voice. She can be poetic, and she can lose her temper to the point where she becomes terrifying.
She's simple, but has strong characterization. I love her. I'm solely talking about Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty 1959. I don't care about this movie, just so you know. Now, look at Michael Myers. Putting aside the cult story line, I really want to forget about that. He has no reason, not even a personality, which is still great. It makes him all the more menacing, creepier, and riveting. Whenever he kills people or simply walks around town, chills go down my spine because I don't know who or when he will kill.
Stalles's wife, however, always fails to leave a lasting impression on me. Her self-expression has little to no variety, and her bland behavior is repetitive. It grinds my gears. I hate Stalis's wife. I get that she's supposed to be a hateable villain, but hateable villain is different from villain that's not worth my time. I don't hate her because she's awful. That could have been the case. If only she wasn't so boring.
>> That is why I despise her. She does nothing memorable. Even by hell of a boss standards, whenever she's on screen, I don't want to see her get defeated. Rather, I feel like skipping to the next episode. There's nothing enjoyable about her. Combine that with an impossibly irritating voice, and you got yourself a one-way ticket to She's so flarking boring, man. You want to know the worst part of all this? In Mission Zero and Murder Family, Stalis was craving for Blitzo like an absolute maniac. He did it again here in an attempt to tie things together at the cost of one thing. I wholeheartedly can't tell anymore whether I'm supposed to take him seriously. All in all, The Circus gets a 2 out of 10. Weary some as hell. Side note, do you recall what I said before regarding Blitzo and Stalis' future relationship? I don't like how obvious it was. Something too obvious isn't interesting. However, there might have been a chance for me to be drawn into it. In the Owl House, I knew AMD was going to have a redemption arc. I knew she was going to be a good person, but I still wanted to see it happen because I grew attached to her over time, unlike these two blo.
We begin with an explanation of whatever h you don't need to know what that is.
The only thing you need to know is Octavia or Via for short would love to see it with her dad someday.
>> Can we go see it someday?
>> Oh, now she sounds like a child. Now that today is the day, Octavia got upset that her dad is too busy. She sets out to see them herself. Elsewhere, Luna beats the living hell out of Blitzo because he's trying to correct her awful performance. Good for him. Octavia snuck in and steals the grimoir. The four stooges and Stalis, the five stooges are now determined to find Octavia. Along the way, Blitzo got mistaken for a celebrity and was cast in a sitcom with a live studio audience. Elsewhere, Luna finally found Octavia. Here, they have a candid conversation about imperfect fathers. No flaring way. She has no right to talk about imperfect fathers, and Blitzo doesn't deserve to feel guilty for daring to replace Luna. I don't know about you, but Blitzo was doing the right thing earlier. Blitzo discussing her attitude is strictly business, nothing personal. He never said he's going to find another daughter. Replacing her is not the same as kicking her out of the family. The fact that she took it personally to the point where she's willing to beat him up speaks volumes of her incompetence. He had every right to find a replacement in her position. Why is Blitz so brokenhearted for doing the right thing?
Because according to the flashback that was shown earlier, Blitz, No, no, no, no, no. Don't you dare bring that up.
But it's meant to be the elucidation, Cyrus. Then there is no elucidation because I refuse to accept that. During the sitcom, we get another recollection.
Somehow they sunk lower than before because hot take. This is much worse than Stalles's backstory. It's not completely out of nowhere because at least it has noticeable buildup, but the problem is how they revealed it. It's hard to explain, but I'll try my best.
Luna's backstory comes across as an interruption rather than an organic plot point. It was just so jarringly sudden.
For the second time in a row, I was confused. Like, why are we doing this now? I thought they're trying to find Octavia. I thought this was about Stalis learning to be a better father. I get the point of subplots. Both circumstances are presumed to be paralleled, but to me, they don't.
Blitzo and Luna's situation seems to be getting in the way and ruining everything rather than enhancing the plot because it's different. Via felt betrayed by her father, rightfully so.
He promised her that they would see the stars today, but he was too obsessed with fighting her mother. It's clear to me that Stalus was being a horrible father. On the contrary, Blitzo wasn't.
He was simply helping Luna to be better at handling clients. It was strictly business, as I said, and Luna beat him up for that. This is nothing like Octavia's state of affairs, making the lesson seem insincere. The lesson is that you should try to give your dad a break. He's not perfect, but he's trying. That's more important than you think, >> bro. Luna does not know what Octavia is going through at all. So, this message doesn't work for Octavia and Luna. This isn't the first time Stalis neglected Octavia. In episode 2, Lulu Land, he paid more attention to Blitzo than his own daughter. Here, he paid more attention to his wife than his own daughter. Aside from the times when Octavia was a baby, never have I ever seen Stalis show any effort in being a decent parent. He only tried to be a good father at the last minute. He sucks, bro. He may not always get it right, but he's trying, and that's more important than looking at the bigger picture. Stalis is horrible, and you know it. Wait, no, you don't know.
That's the problem. You don't know. But here you are telling her to give her dad a break. She had every right to feel this way, bro. So, shut up. You don't know what she's going through. And most importantly, you're not experiencing the same thing she is. Who are you to tell her all this stuff? In my opinion, they should have saved Luna's backstory for another episode. An episode that mainly focuses on Blitzo and Luna. An episode that actually paints Blitzo as an authentically horrible father because I really don't think he was being horrible here. Luna was stupid. Luna, you got me defending Blitzo. I'll never forgive you for that. Ultimately, what is the main lesson? Uh, Luna is a lunatic.
>> Lunatic. Luna.
>> Another hot take. Luna's memory sequence is manipulative. Ever since Luna beat him up for stupid reasons, my thoughts on Luna has gone into an all-time low. I hate her from the bottom of my heart.
It's as if the writers knew this would happen. So, they threw a pie right at my face to justify Luna's behavior. Jokes on you, bro. I know how this game works.
You're not going to gaslight me into sympathizing with her. I think Luna is trash. End of story. I also think Stalles is trash. End of story. Just for one final kick in the balls. Luna had the balls to kick him in the balls. He was just apologizing, bro. Apologizing for something he shouldn't apologize for. If anything, you are the one who needs to apologize. Apologize for being an atrocious receptionist. Kicking his butt and balls. These two scenes can lick my toes. I hate them. I hate Luna.
I hate Stalis. And I hate this episode.
Three out of 10. Stupid as hell. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the songs. Till the day we die is mediocre, but I like I like it. I imp receives a job from an unusual client, and that is Moxy's father, who is a mafia boss. I like to call him Demon Corleion. Demon Corleion is perhaps the most generic stereotypical caricature of a mobster I could have ever imagined. I believe he was written by people who only know the bare minimum of how mobsters talk, walk, and act. 100% unexciting. You think you're too good for this family now?
>> Get that wrong, Max. And it's about time your pathetic ass was useful for something.
>> Incidentally, this was barely brought up, but in an acceptable way, because it makes total sense. He didn't want to talk about this part of his life. He'd rather move on. But Cyrus, doesn't Stalis and Luna's backstory make sense, too? The difference here is it wasn't shoved in in a random scene. Rather, it was made to be a major part of the episode's plot. Plus, Moxy is way more developed than Stalus in general. So, revealing his personal background is earned. Moxy reunited with his father and his ex-boyfriend, Shark Boy, played by Eric Schwarz. He's also Milliey's ex-boyfriend. Honestly, he has the worst looking anthropomorphic shark design I've ever seen. I didn't even know he was supposed to be a shark until I saw his dorsal fin and his ridiculously stupidly large tail. He looks hideous.
The other shark boys and shark girls look way better to me. Moxy talks about his extinct relationship with Shark Boy.
Finally, a recollection that has a rationale to be shown simply because Moxy had to give full disclosure, but I have a tiny bone to pick with it. He met Blitzo for the first time in prison.
Based on what I watched, Blitzo had an escape plan. They escaped from prison.
Does that mean they're wanted men? How come nobody's looking for them? They're on TV with their dumb commercial. Demon Corone, played by Moxy's voice actor, I can definitely tell, offers Moxy a job opening, and he won't take no for an answer. And here we have another reminiscence. Thankfully, it had a reasonable purpose to be shown. X's and O's sparks some interest in Moxy's background from the get- go. The audience might want to know more at this point. Also having little to no dialogue is admirable. Moxy is forced to stay separate from Millie. He shared rooms with Shark Boy, who sings him a song called Chaz Time. It's kind of good, but mostly bad. Moxy stood up to his father for the first time in forever. But he still won't take no for an answer. He's now forced to marry Shark Boy. Lava Girl comes in to save the day while a song plays in the background. Crashing a mofo wedding. I like it. Unlike the fight scene, yeah, I did not like this trash heap. The camera was ceaselessly shaking for no flarking reason. I suppose it's meant to give the fight scene intensity and give me an adrenaline rush. Bro, I don't care. I would have enjoyed this if it wasn't for the fast and shaky choreography. I sometimes like it when fight scenes are shaky, but this one is off-putting, unnecessary, and infuriating. I couldn't stand to look at it any longer. The only way to enjoy this is to close your eyes and imagine it in your head while listening to the music. In the end, Demon Corleone murdered Shark Boy after he lied about his wealth. Good. I was so sick of looking at him. I heard he's not actually dead. I don't care. Talking of which, how many episodes has it been?
And Millie is still surprisingly flat.
The thing is, she's just way too straightforward and simple that it's hard to come up with legitimate praises.
It makes this fight scene shallow. It's a fight scene that's over the top yet lifeless. Millie is so boring. But Cyrus, how come you don't feel the same way for Tex? Vortex is my favorite because, as I said, he stands out. He's the only one who isn't hyperbolical in a show full of hyperbolical characters, including Millie. Tex is just something that I rarely see in Hell of a Boss.
He's a diamond in the rough. He's a breath of fresh air. But I'll admit, putting aside my personal sentiment, he is quite boring, just like Millie. At least Moxy got some time to shine.
That's what X's and O did best. But something seems to be destroying it.
Can't wait to get into that. 5 out of 10. Family is hell. Important note. I'm not saying she needs to have a traumatic life like the others in order to catch my interest. For me personally, Millie can be compelling without the need of a sorrowful background. Why not have a sorrowful present? Lois and Clark from James Gun Superman started out as a couple in the movie, but still managed to be engrossing with their imperfections. Look at the way they argued in this scene, perfectly unveiling how flawed their relationship is.
>> I'm sorry we fought.
>> Me, too. But we're bound to, though.
We're so different.
>> The same thing could be applied here.
Maybe Millie would have an argument with Moxy, showing how imperfect she is as a spouse or how imperfect they are as a married couple. I'd like to see that.
I'd also like to see more characters like Vortex. Come on, I'm still waiting.
Norman Reedus makes a comeback. I wish he still sounds badass. He captures Stalus to put an end to him as a bunch of singers sing him a song.
The Ballad of Striker. It's okay. In the meantime, Blitzo takes Luna to a hospital called St. An's Hospital. Uh, this is hell. Why would there be a saint in hell? Stalles's wife changed her mind and aborted the mission because they need Stalis alive to make sure that she will get something out of the divorce.
Interesting. Very nice. So, what's Vortex up to? Moxy and Millie arrived to save the day and they get into a fight.
Another phenomenal fight scene. My personal favorite. The best part is that it kept on cutting to the hospital. It looks really cool. The music is good, too. I like What you thinking about?
It's like two songs merged into one. In the end, they saved Stalis and Blitzo was surprised and concerned. Oh, boo.
>> Western energy fling sucks because she's here. The stakes are dreary because the foundation, the cause of it all is dreary. And I just can't seem to care about Stalis. He was about to get killed. So what? If you ask me, he should have died. Is there any way for me to care about Stalis at this point?
Yeah, just travel back in time and give him appropriate development before manipulating me with a stupid unwarranted backstory. Ever since the first episode of season 2, everything is ruined for Stalis. Everything. Fight scene was breathtaking, but that alone cannot save this unengaging chapter. 4.5 out of 10, tedious as hell. Blitzo seems to be busy doing something. So Millie and Moxy take the case for the client who got killed by a mysterious killer.
They disguised themselves as human beings. Moxy as a girl and Millie as a boy. What's noteworthy about Unhappy Campers is that it finally gave Millie a chance to shine, a chance to be fleshed out, a chance to be something. She was arguing with Moxy, which is something that I wanted to see, but it doesn't work because it makes no sense. In this scene, they get into an argument that really confused me. Mostly because of what Millie said.
>> And for once, I feel like like I'm important.
>> Why?
>> You never felt like you're important.
Moxy tried to win a stuffed animal for you, stood up to your parents for you, sang a song to you for your one-year marriage anniversary. Recently, he thanked you for saving him and told you that you're amazing. Moreover, you've been a decent IMP employee. So much so that Blitzo respects you. He trusted Moxy and you to save Stalis while he goes to the hospital. And that was a big deal. And you never felt important. You never felt proud of yourself. Where the flark did this come from?
>> Next time just tell me if your dad is a psychopath.
I can handle it.
>> That sounded very empowering. Almost as if she was proud of herself. Wait a minute. I think I get it now. She never felt important or proud of herself as an individual, not as Moxy's spouse or as an employee of IMP. This is all about her and she wants it to be about her.
For once, she's not being overshadowed.
Okay, that makes sense. But this is where it falls apart. As far as I remember, I never saw Millie think or feel that she is being overshadowed.
Never have I ever seen her complain about getting ignored by her co-workers, disregarding her feelings, or making her feel worthless as a person. That was never established as an insecurity until only now. Up to this point, she's consistently been confident, proud, gratified, loved, and respected by her family and friends, especially her husband. Hence, this conflict is unearned. So, let me ask again, where the flark did this come from? You could have finished that job anytime if you had just listened to me.
>> In defense of Moxy, how was he supposed to know that you're correct? You jumped to conclusions way too early. Granted, she did solve the case in an instant, but I can totally comprehend why Moxy wouldn't think so. He wanted to make sure he got everything right. That's how investigations go after all. You make sure you got everything right before jumping to conclusions. Jiminy Christmas. Do the writers have some sort of personal vendetta against Moxy or something? This is not fair. Moxy should be calling a lawyer because he doesn't deserve this. It's like they had absolutely no idea how to enhance Millie. They just spun the wheel of fortune and pick whatever they happen to land on, completely ignoring that it makes no sense. Why not reveal that Millie is Luna's longlost twin sister?
It would have the same effect. This could have been handled in some other way. I think they should have explored Milliey's temper issues instead. That would make more sense because she got extremely angry multiple times. That's been a part of her character. They could have had Millie accidentally hurt Moxy emotionally and physically during their argument because he kept on telling her that she's wrong. She's been a real slacker. They must solve this case correctly. Although Millie solved it from the get-go. After losing her temper, she learned to control it and be a better partner. She now decides to solve the case in Moxy's way, the right way. After solving the case, Moxy will then admit that she's been right the whole time and apologize for not listening to her. The moral is about how both sides could simultaneously be right and wrong. If only Millie would control her temper. And if only Moxy would listen to her, despite his prospicuous rationale for not listening to her.
Unhappy campers made me very unhappy. It is cringe incarnate. Millie is as lame as ever. Moxy was wrongly punished. And Blitzo's storyline is As for the songs, Regular Joe is mediocre. Everybody Look at me is lousy and You Got the Power is pretty dust good. 3.5 out of 10. Shallow as hell.
Well, here we are, ladies and guys, the final episode of Hell of a Boss. Or rather, the final episode I've watched before I gave up and before the monkey on my back officially got bored. So, let's end this madness so I can clean my hands and my soul. Sorry, Tex. Looks like I'm not going to stay any longer for you. We're still friends, right?
Blitzo and Fizzo stumble upon each other and perform a street fight. They got captured by Striker, who is hired by Demon Corleone. Blitzo is behind bars.
Finally, something that looks good in my eyes. Now, if we could only staple their mouths or rip out their throats so they can never talk again, that would be the best thing ever. Sadly, they escaped and started talking about their shocking memories. The presentation is okay, but I hate that they're doing it in the middle of an escape. Could they just shut up and focus on getting out of here? The action comes off as a massive distraction from their emotional moment.
>> Trying to have a [ __ ] emotional moment here.
>> At least they're self-aware. After they made up, they come up with a plan to escape. Blitzo will open a pathway while Fizzo distracts all of them by singing a song called Look at This. You know, it's quite fitting that this is the worst song I've ever heard so far because this episode triggered me to completely drop the show. It's so irritating I eventually gave up. Nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to how atrociously atrocious this atrocity is. Life is difficult, but it becomes unfeasible if you have this song on your playlist. I swear listening to this is worse than being friends with Chloe Price. Look at this is such an appropriate title because this is the kind of song that I would love to look at, not listen to. It is an insult to the entire music industry. After they escaped, deja vu happened when Fizzo gets trapped in a ring of fire. I thought demons can't be harmed by fire. This is a different kind of fire, I guess. The two stooges hug it out. Fizzo finally made it home and they lived happily ever after. So, that was Oops. It's one of the best, but that's like saying squirrel poop is one of the best poops in the world. It's still poop. Excessively gling like the rest, and the song is worse than life itself.
Enough is enough. I can only take so much pain. Four out of 10 humrum as hell. I just realized something. We've been getting tragic backstory after tragic backstory since the beginning of season 2. They treat it like it's a law and it's been happening persistently.
You get a backstory. You get a backstory. You get a backstory. You get a backstory. You get a backstory. You get a backstory. You get a backstory.
Everybody gets a backstory. You know what, bro? It's getting old at this point. You may as well give every single character tragic backstories. There's nothing special about it anymore. It inspires me to make my own fictional characters one day and give none of them tragic backstories.
It's ironic that Hell of a Boss is meant for mature audiences only. Yet, it's one of the most immature shows I've ever seen in my life. Mostly because of the swearing. A lot of people say that the cursing in Hell of a Boss is problematic. That's how this meme came to light. [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] Penis.
>> In all sincerity, I'm giving in to mob mentality because it genuinely is problematic. But Cyrus, this is hell.
Vulgarity should be expected in a place like this and from creatures like them.
I flurking hate that argument so much.
If cussing is a thing from hell, why do the angels swear? Yes, that's right. The angels say bad words as well.
>> We are saving that [ __ ] old man's life.
That [ __ ] dead people tread on. They were banned from heaven, but that's only because they killed the old man, not because they said bad words, which probably means swearing is a thing from heaven, too. So, everyone says bad words, bro. Also, this argument is pointless. Let's say I discovered a chicken restaurant. Their motto is, "We make chicken dinners." That's it. They didn't say good chicken dinners or bad chicken dinners, just chicken dinners. I go there and try out one of their stuff.
Turns out it tasted like garbage. I was expecting to eat chicken, but does that justify the terrible job they did with my dinner? No. I was expecting the characters in this show to say bad words, but I don't like the hellacious utilization. Hell of a Boss does curse a lot of times, but that's not what bothers me. What bothers me is that the cursing often feels superolous and unimaginative. All they do is shout bad words and throw vulgarity at your face like it's part of the Ten Commandments or something. Thou shalt do something offensive every 5 seconds. Jeez, there's no ingenuity, no effort, no nothing.
It's obnoxious and irritating. It's not music, it's noise. Patrick Star said it best. Curse words are sentence enhancers. You use them when you want to talk fancy. You just sprinkle it over anything you say and >> you got yourself a spicy sentence sandwich. But keep in mind, since they have the power to enhance sentences, they also have the power to ruin them if not utilized precisely. And that's the predicament here. The characters constantly, gratuitously say bad words, causing the flavor to deteriorate. I had the same concern with Peacemaker, The Boys, and Nobody, too. These are great, but jeez, you guys need to shut up for a bit. I know you're edgy and R-rated. You don't have to wave it around all the time. Oh, look at us. We're so edgy.
[ __ ] middle finger. It's intolerable and immature, making the dialogue unbearable, and the entire series too mean-spirited for me to be captivated.
There are times when the cursing works, but there are also a lot of times when they say bad words, but creativity and necessity are absent. It adds nothing other than frustration and fatigue. It happens repeatedly.
>> Now, let's go lick some ass.
>> The expression is kick some ass.
Which son is this one? There's soing many.
>> My world is burning down around me. It's by [ __ ] you, Dad.
>> All right, shut your ass. Here's how we're going to do this [ __ ] You two raised a sturdy b Oh, you daddy?
>> You going to finish that [ __ ] sentence?
>> It sickens me. Get the [ __ ] out.
>> Yeah, smog's a b.
This kind of [ __ ] gets messy.
>> What kind of [ __ ] I'll [ __ ] kill you.
Don't you [ __ ] >> Y'all seen this mother.
>> You got a good thing going on with that horny rooster [ __ ] don't you?
It comes off as desperate and childish.
I know this because I used to be that kind of child. I think we all have. As a kid, I thought swearing was badass, funny, and adult because I believe that's what adults do all the time. I was not alone on that. Many of my classmates back in grade school were obsessed with vulgarity. We used to do it all the time. That's what being a brat is all about. And you know what?
That should have been the target audience. Meant for mature audiences. My kester. You don't get a mature medal for cussing. That's where you start from.
I'm not going to claim that I have all the answers because I'm in a transitional period. I've yet to achieve true maturity myself as I'm still growing. This is just the way I see it based on what I've learned from my parents, my teachers, and movies that I've seen. Maturity isn't based solely on age. True maturity is when someone becomes responsible. As I explained a while ago, curse words are sentence enhancers. They have the power to either improve or destroy sentences. And you know what they say, with great power comes great responsibility. Spider-Man isn't mature for having superpowers.
He's mature for using them responsibly.
It's not mature to cuss, it's mature to cuss responsibly and creatively. I'm aware that mature audiences is the industry term for adults. Hell of a Boss is for adults only because kids should obviously stay away from things like violence, vulgarity, etc. Well, I'm here to protest, to make a change. I declare a change. Gosh darn it. Mature audiences shouldn't be the term for adults anymore. Instead, they should specify the age like 18 plus or 18 and above.
Because this is not for people below that age, as it is too inappropriate.
But that doesn't mean they're the opposite of mature. Sometimes kids can be more mature than adults if they act like it, if they're raised very well.
Same goes for TV shows. From what I've seen so far, Hell of a Boss is anything but mature. Dora the Explorer is more mature. Prove me wrong. I think Hell of a Boss would be part of my list of favorite animated shows ever if I watched it when it came out. Back in those days, I was still a brat who loved dark humor and was obsessed with swearing. I never changed my sense of humor since grade school until recently.
I guess part of growing up is realizing that forced dark humor and forced swearing are very immature. Watching Hell of a Boss makes me feel embarrassed about my behavior back then. It made me realize how stupid I was.
>> I can't believe it. I'm so annoying.
>> So, this is an important experience.
Thank you, Vivy Pop. I'm sorry for acting like a curse word police. Hell of a boss gets on my nerves, man. As well as The Boys, Nobody Too, and Peacemaker to a lesser extent. If you don't think cursing is a big deal or immature, that's totally fine. And you're not immature for loving to swear. To me, as someone who has seen a lot of R-rated movies and TV series, cursing is an art.
I just think you have to use it properly.
Now, we get to my number one problem with this show. This problem is so big that even if all my complaints were fixed, the unfunny comedy, the excessive cursing, the backstories, and all that, I would still say this show is garbage if this one massively unforgivable problem is still present. Yeah, it's that bad. Hell of a Boss's tone is fighting with itself. On one hand, it wants to be a vulgar Looney Tunes cartoon. On the other hand, it craves to be a soap opera. And they don't mix well, honestly. One is always trying to top the other instead of getting along.
In X's and O's, during Moxy's reminiscence, he was forced to murder someone. But I thought in this show, murder and violence in general were meant to be amusing and humorous. I don't care if he's innocent or not. I should be overlooking this, right? It's dark comedy, right? You guys literally made a joke about famous people getting killed by stalkers. Since when do you want me to feel bad when something like this happens? Because Moxy was just a child. That brings me to my next point.
We get more than three episodes in season 2 highlighting how sad it is when children get hurt and traumatized. Yet, the show wants you to laugh when children got hurt, scared, bullied, and threatened to be murdered, but they're just in the background. They're not the main characters. Doesn't change the reality that they were children like they used to be. So, when Blitzo lost his mother, should I laugh? Hell of a Boss seems selective when it comes to dark comedy and genuine drama. It just does whatever it wants. It makes it impossible to get engaged in anything because I had no idea what I was watching anymore. I could no longer tell what's funny and what's serious. I even started questioning my life choices.
Unfunny comedy is bad enough, but when you make the comedy confusing and even contradictory, that's a whole new level of nasty writing. What a fantastic way to kill immersion. Season 1 is sheer exasperation. season 2 is utter BS. And no, I'm still not going to accept this argument. It doesn't justify this show's tendency to say bad words needlessly and its unhealthy habit of downplaying emotional moments with ridiculousness.
Going back to the chicken restaurant argument I made a while ago, why should I be pleased when I'm served a revolting chicken? Because chicken dinners in general are what I ought to anticipate in this place. Bro, I wanted a good chicken, not a bad one. Just because it's something that should be expected, that doesn't automatically mean it's good because it still needs to be good.
You want me to give this restaurant five stars? Don't go overboard with the seasonings and the heating process. You want to be a dark comedy that still manages to break my heart? Don't go overboard with the dark comedy aspect.
It gets in the way. You could have toned it down a bit instead of outweighing the seriousness. You know, since everyone loves using this excuse to justify hell of a boss, how about I use it for a change? This is hell. Why am I expected to commiscerate with demons? Aren't they the epitome of evil? I should be more concerned about the humans, not these evil creatures.
Before we conclude, I got to ask, is it fair to complain about an indie animated show, particularly one that's completely free to watch on YouTube? I usually can't find a motive to do that because it's free. What's the point of ripping them apart if they didn't ask anything from you like your money? My answer to this question, no. The answer to this question is definitely yes. An animated show, indie or not, free or not, is a form of art that can be distributed to the public and breeds some feedback. Of course, it's okay to criticize them because there's no law that says you're not allowed to criticize free stuff. I should know. I've been making videos for a long time, and I receive tons of criticisms in spite of never asking for money. All of them are completely free to watch with advertisements for monetization. Just get brave. This video is not sponsored. Hell of a Boss may be free to watch, but it isn't free from criticism. Though, it's entirely up to you. If you don't care enough to criticize free stuff, that's fine.
So, there you have Hell of a Boss. Maybe I should keep going because this show might get better, but I don't feel like it. My immersion disappeared completely.
There is no reason for me to continue.
It was so difficult to review this and it was even harder watching it. I cannot believe what I cursed my eyes and ears with. It's stupid, loud, obnoxious. It's not funny, but it's trying so hard to be funny. The characters go from excruciating to downright uninteresting, and the dramatic moments don't hit because of the stupidity outweighing them. Never have I ever seen an animated show that's simultaneously boring and annoying. Hell of a Boss is genuine proof that we're devolving as a society.
I do have to give credit. This show really lives up to its name because watching it really makes you feel like you're burning in hell. I'm looking forward to Hasbin Hotel because there is no way in hell, no pun intended, that this show could possibly be worse. I'm giving Hell of a Boss a a blank out of 10. Haven't finished it. Is it fair to rate a TV show without watching the whole thing? I think the answer is of course. I dropped it because it's so bad. I gave it a chance, but it couldn't stop itself from opening Pandora's box and releasing Chaos. Therefore, it gets a three out of 10. Unwatchable as hell.
All right. Thank you so much for watching. Subscribe and like if you want, and get me out of here.
