[00:00:00][music] >> Hey everyone at Collins Creatures. This is a very angry freckle monitor and I am at New England Reptile Distributors, more better known as NERD. And the focus of this video is going to be on the more unusual and expensive animals at NERD.

[00:00:21][music] And I'm also be filming other videos at my visit that'll be coming out later on.

[00:00:26]>> [music] [music] >> So, if you know a lot about reptiles, you probably heard of the Duméril's boa.

[00:00:37]You may not have heard of the Duméril's monitor, which is named after the same guy, but from a different area. These guys are from Southeast Asia, while the Duméril's boa is from Madagascar. They get around 4 ft long and they are like a longer, aquatic version of the Savannah monitor.

[00:00:57]And he is wet because he likes to soak in his water dish. [music] >> [music] [music] >> This is a little pancake tortoise.

[00:01:16]Pancake tortoises are really cool.

[00:01:17]They're quite small and to defend themselves from predators, because they're not the biggest, they'll wedge themselves in between rocks and they'll actually inflate themselves. Their shells are actually quite soft to do so.

[00:01:27]>> [music] >> And they're also the fastest species of tortoise in the world, capable of running a staggering 11 mph, which may not [music] sound very fast, but it is actually quite fast, especially for a tortoise.

[00:01:40]>> [music] >> This is a Hosmer skink. Hosmer skinks are from Australia and they have these spiny tails and a really spiny body in general. And they wedge themselves into rock crevices to stay away from predators and then they'll inflate and make sure they get stuck in there. And plus they're really spiny, so no one really doesn't want to really bite this.

[00:02:04]It's not the most pleasant thing to bite down on.

[00:02:06]Uh but they're really cool looking. Uh I see them at shows sometimes, but they're also they're all very expensive, so no one really wants to hold them. But this one's like nice and calm and really, really cool looking.

[00:02:17]And now the budget version of the Hosmer skink, at only $500, is the [music] spiny-tailed skink. They're also from Australia and they have a even spinier tail.

[00:02:29]>> [music] >> Here in my hands are two giant millipedes. I have an African giant in my right hand and I have a Goliath golden leg in my left hand. [music] They look very similar, but they are different. The African giant is more satin, while the uh golden leg is more glossy. The golden leg has golden legs, while [music] the African giant has its reddish legs.

[00:02:59]Uh but they're both very cool and they both get much bigger [music] than this.

[00:03:07]>> [music] >> This is a big T negative albino blood python. He is very, very heavy bodied. I see plenty of blood pythons at reptile shows, but this one's nice and beautiful and [music] really heavy bodied. He's really sweet, too. So it's really nice to be able to hold something that's nice and big.

[00:03:27]>> [music] >> This is an Abronia. Abronia's are also called alligator lizards. They're from Mexico and Central America and they have these really cool colors and these awesome looking scales.

[00:03:40]>> [music] >> And also a kind of feisty temperament sometimes. Uh this one was uh not [music] really being very dramatic when he was getting out, but now he's nice and calm on my arm. They're so, so cool looking.

[00:03:54]>> [music] >> This is a little baby caiman lizard who is trying to bite me. But caiman lizards are really cool. They're from South America and they look like crocodilians.

[00:04:10]They have a crocodilian-like body, but they have a more lizard-like head. Their body is green with a red head and they are semi-aquatic. They're also arboreal and they are [music] really cool. I'm not trying to get bit by this little guy, cuz even though he's little, it'll probably still hurt a lot. So yeah, they're really, [music] really cool and once they get big, you can tame them down as long as you socialize them well.

[00:04:28]But when they're babies, they're going to be a bit more bitey. But he's really, really cool.

[00:04:35]This is a little baby Stimson's python.

[00:04:38]Stimson's pythons are one of the smallest species of python in the world.

[00:04:41]They belong to the Antaresia genus >> [music] >> in Australia and there's four different species. There's Stimson's python and then there's also Children's python, which I see often at shows. There are sometimes spotted pythons and then I personally own an Ant-hill python, but I've never seen a Stimson's python in person, so that was really cool. And he's a little feisty, but he's just a little baby, so he's cute when he does [music] it. He's not scary and they don't get very big to begin with. So even when they're full grown, they're not the scariest thing to get bitten by.

[00:05:13]>> [music] >> Anybody who knows about NERD knows about the Bolen's python. This is Medusa, a full grown female Bolen's python. And if you want to learn more about these awesome snakes, check out my Bolen's python specific video that I did here at NERD as well.

[00:05:32]>> [music] [music] >> This is Bubba, the really big alligator snapping turtle. Now I've I'm petting him in a way that I was taught to do it.

[00:05:54]Don't do this with any alligator snapping turtle if you don't know what you're doing or any snapping turtle at all, because at best you'll lose a finger, at worst you'll lose a hand. But he is really, really big. He is very old as well, well probably well over 100 years and he is just a really chill guy.

[00:06:12]If you pet him right, he doesn't mind.

[00:06:14]But he's really, really cool.

[00:06:18]>> [music] [music] >> At reptile shows I see plenty of rattlesnakes and there's a bunch of different kinds. I think they're really cool. But I've never seen this specific variety. This is a Davis Mountain rattlesnake and while I've seen other kinds that it is it's it's the same as the rock rattlesnake, I've never seen this specific kind, cuz it's it's really cool looking. It has a nice pattern. It has different [music] colors. It's mottled, it's speckled. I think it's really, really cool.

[00:06:55]>> [music] >> This is a desert horned viper. They're from North Africa and the Middle East and they get the name because of their two horns on their head. Uh their scientific name Cerastes actually means [music] horned and they are really cool.

[00:07:10]They live in the desert and they're ambush predators. They actually sidewind like the North American sidewinder rattlesnake. So they are very, very cool.

[00:07:19]>> [music] [music] >> There's nothing quite as intimidating as staring down a king cobra, even if it's through a plexiglass door.

[00:07:39]>> [music] [music] [music] >> This is Chandler. He is a 14-ft long male king cobra. If you want to see more of him, check out my upcoming video, The Giants of NERD.

[00:08:05]>> [music] >> And this is Sasha. She is a female and she is actively gravid. She built up a nest that she will lay [music] her eggs into.

[00:08:16]These are frill dragons. Frill dragons are really cool lizards. They have those frills that splay out to make themselves look bigger and more intimidating to predators. [music] Uh there's a male and a female in here, so they're really, really cool looking.

[00:08:30]Uh so yeah.

[00:08:32]>> [music] >> This is a deathstalker scorpion.

[00:08:40]Deathstalker scorpions are from North Africa and the Middle East and [music] they look like a desert hairy scorpion, except they are much more dangerous than one. Well, not a lot of people get stung by them, they are considered one of the most deadly scorpions in the world because of the potency of their very toxic venom.

[00:08:59]Uh but if you don't mess with them, they're really not that dangerous and even if you were stung, you likely would not die. You'd just be in a lot of pain.

[00:09:06]But that's not something I want to figure out, so I'm just going to hold the container.

[00:09:13]This is another kind of scorpion. This is a Tunisian fat-tailed scorpion. They have big claws and they have a really, really fat tail and they are also really cool. They are also quite venomous like the deathstalker, not maybe not quite as venomous and but they're still quite dangerous. But also, if you don't mess with them, you're not going to get [music] stung and I'm not going to figure that out, so I'm just going to hold the container like I did with the deathstalker.

[00:09:34]>> [music] >> This is Jeremy and he's a Fly River turtle. They are from the Fly River in Australia and they are a fully aquatic freshwater turtle. So they have flippers like a sea turtle and they don't leave the water unless they female going to lay eggs on the bank where the bank will then flood and the eggs will then hatch.

[00:09:53]And you can pet Jeremy. He's really nice and sweet and then you can go under and pet his belly like that. He is really cool. That's why they're called pig nose turtles because of their pig nose and they get bigger than this.

[00:10:05]So, Jeremy's pretty big but they still [music] do get bigger than this. They are very very cool. They have a leathery like shell and really leathery skin.

[00:10:11]They're just so so interesting and bizarre.

[00:10:15]>> [music] >> So, this is a very socialized Cuvier's dwarf caiman that I am handling.

[00:10:23]Uh in the wild I'll never be able to do this because it would try and rip my hands off and I'm also able to hold it because I'm from Pennsylvania so I don't need a permit. [music] In New Hampshire you do and I'm also under the supervision of Johnny Venom who knows what he's doing. Also in the wild you would not be able to walk up and do this to this animal right here. You cannot pet them on their teeth. They would like literally nip you. And the reason why we do not tape these guys is because on top of her snout here they are very sensitive. And each interaction when you pull them out and tape their jaws is going to be a negative interaction. So, every time this animal comes out it's going to be like they're going to tape me again. So, we don't tape them and as you can see we end up with a very very calm socialized animal.

[00:10:59]You're beautiful Candy.

[00:11:01]Cuvier's dwarf caimans are very cool.

[00:11:03]They are very small crocodilians. Uh the females are the smallest species by sex.

[00:11:08][music] The smallest species in general is the African dwarf crocodile and they look like dinosaurs and it's really large scales [music] and they look just so so awesome.
