During the West Asia conflict that caused global fuel prices to surge, India recorded the smallest material increase among major economies, with petrol rising by only 3.2 rupees and diesel by 3.4 rupees, compared to 48% increases in the US, 50.4% in Pakistan, and 86% in UAE, demonstrating how government intervention through oil marketing company management can mitigate economic shocks.

Fuel Price Hike: BJP Responds To Opposition Over Petrol Diesel Hike Amid West Asia ConflictAñadido:
In the latest, BJP has now responded to the fuel hike, where they've defended petrol and diesel price hike. BJP has said that India stands out as a striking [music] exception. BJP has said that the price rise in other countries is staggering. In comparison to that, [music] India is doing much better. BJP has said that India has recorded the smallest hike in fuel prices in comparison to the rest of the world.
This is the latest post by Amit Malviya of the BJP, who said that the surge in global fuel prices since [music] the outbreak of the West Asia conflict offers a revealing comparison of how different countries have managed economic shocks. The closure of the Strait of [music] Hormuz, the world's most critical oil choke point, and the prolonged disruption of shipments sent Brent crude soaring above $100 per barrel through much of April and early May. Across the world, consumers have felt the impact directly at fuel stations, but India stands out as a striking exception. Between 23rd February and 15th May 2026, [music] nearly every major economy saw sharp increases in petrol [music] and diesel prices. In several countries, the rise has been staggering. India recorded the smallest material [music] increase among all major economies, is the post that has been [music] put out by Amit Malviya. Let me take this to my colleague Aishwarya Paliwal on BJP's latest response. Aishwarya, as [music] they're defending the price hike. The West Asia conflict was bound to have its impact, but the BJP now saying that in comparison to the rest of the globe, India is doing much better.
Well, you know, there's a chart that in fact which has been given out by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The BJP is now saying that if you just look at the data, the data clearly is indicating at the fact that India recorded the smallest material increase among all the major economies. Uh petrol has risen by 3.2 rupees and diesel by 3.4 rupees.
Also, they have they are saying that this is not something that has happened by accident. For the past 76 days, the government was keeping a fox eye oil marketing players in fact were also making sure that the prices do not rise. Instead of immediately passing on the burden to the citizens, the OMCs in fact the companies made sure that they have dropped the substantial under recoveries and the Let me tell you the data also is pointing towards the fact that on a daily basis the under recoveries were approximately 1,000 crore rupees and that's the reason why we are seeing this slight increase in diesel and petrol prices. The government however will make sure that this does not have a domino impact and other things and other prices do not increase.
That will be the focus of the government going forward, Trisha.
All right, Ashwaram. Many thanks for getting us those details.
And let me now explain to you how exactly is India doing in comparison to the world when it comes to the fuel hike. Now remember, India on an average is seeing a petrol hike of about 3 rupees versus the US >> [music] >> which has seen a hike of 48%.
Now how is doing India doing in comparison to Australia? Australia has seen a 38.9% [music] hike whereas India has seen petrol hike by 3 rupees.
Again, if you take a look at how Pakistan is doing, there's a 50.4% hike. That's more than half of what Pakistan is seeing. The West Asia conflict that has impacted the entire world. China has seen a 27.7% hike. That is about 1/4 of what their original price was >> [music] >> and India in comparison stands at 3 rupees. Vietnam has seen a 47% hike which is literally short of half but not too much, just a 3%. 47% [music] hike is what Vietnam has seen. Canada, a 32% hike where India is seeing a hike of 3 rupees.
The same is the situation Myanmar. In fact, it is worse because [music] Myanmar fuel prices have doubled. It has now risen by 100% of what it used to be.
Take a look at UAE. UAE, which is the oil hub, but obviously because of the West Asia conflict, UAE has also taken a hit. And remember, this is not about 40 or 50% hike that the UAE is witnessing.
It [music] is 86% hike. So, in comparison to the rest of the world, India has seen a hike in petrol [music] by 3 rupees, and that is exactly what the BJP is now saying to really put out that in comparison to the rest of the world, India is doing much better.
But let's not forget how politics is brewing over the fuel price hike. It has in fact [music] erupted where the Congress's inflation man attack on Prime Minister Modi has heightened. Congress has said that the elections are over.
Modi's extortion has begun. Congress has put out a post calling Modi inflation man. The post that reads, and I quote, "Inflation man Modi has [music] once again cracked the whip on the public today. Petrol and diesel prices have been hiked by 3 rupees each. Meanwhile, [music] CNG prices have also been raised by 2 rupees. Elections are over. Modi's extortion has begun." Saravanan Annamalai, who said that Modi can do it.
"Hello Modi ji, >> [music] >> please imagine that there is going to be a general election, then there won't be any necessity to increase the petrol diesel prices." Now, this is what Saravanan has said. "Oil market was deregulated then when the crude oil prices came down, [music] the benefit should have been passed on to the common man, but the BJP government increased duty and [music] enjoyed the profits.
Now, follow the same logic. When crude oil prices are soaring, decrease the duty."
This is how the opposition is going on to attack the central government over the fuel hike. But most importantly they're timing it to the election because this is the sort of narrative that the opposition was pushing even before the elections to say that while most of the benefits have been passed on, but uh the real hit will come after the elections are over. And now they go on to push that statement in full swing where the opposition is saying that the center was only waiting for the elections to be over. As soon as that is over, the common man is witnessing the hit of it. And uh petrol and diesel hike that the entire country is facing [music] the brunt of. On the other side, where the BJP is defending itself to say that in comparison to the rest of the world India is doing much better. And the price hack hike is not as [music] much as what the rest of the world is seeing. The West Asia conflict had to have its impact, but the opposition that is raising the timing aspect because they are saying that the BJP did not want to make an announcement of this nature before the [music] elections. And as soon as the elections are over, they're now doing that.
Let me take this to my colleague Moshami Singh who's joining us on the phone line. Moshami, again, the sort of narrative that the opposition is taking to is something they were saying even before the elections because their problem more than the price hike is to say that the government was not announcing or making announcements of this [music] nature before the elections. As soon as the election is over, they're now coming out with it.
So, the speech from the top leadership of the Congress party uh uh to the entire opposition is slamming the Prime Minister over his double speak uh talking about uh you know, really the Amrit Kaal that the Prime Minister talks about that this is the Amrit Kaal of India uh where you know uh uh the the the the Prime Minister is completely compromised. Rahul Gandhi, in fact, is going on to slam uh the Prime Minister talking about how uh the Modi government has pocketed billions in profits and now 3 months after a completely predictable crisis the public is being forced to absorb the pain and that's the line that the Congress party is throwing clearly you know this is fresh ammunition for the opposition to attack the prime minister over the over over the fact that the economy is in doldrums. Rahul Gandhi had earlier said that this Donald Trump is correct talking about the dead economy of the country and he is saying the right thing and that's because the PM is compromised. So completely you know the opposition has opened all is being trading all guns at the prime minister there.
So getting us those details.
