New Fire TV Forced Ad popups are Too INVASIVE

[00:00:00]Now, if you're recently updated your Fire TV device, you might have started to receive this pop-up right here, which is a new advertisement style by Amazon that they are testing out for the first time. Now, right now it might seem kind of innocent where it is just talking about their new Fire TV mobile update.

[00:00:21]However, this is a strategy that has been used by Amazon many times. So, let's talk about it. So, Amazon actually has a long history of continuously adding ads Fire TV devices. This was one that was added quite a while back where full-screen video ads would start to play when waking up. Uh and this would essentially just be like movie advertisements or you know, stuff for different products, things like that.

[00:00:46]That was a new form that Amazon added in. They also started to add in banner advertisements. Now, this happened both on the old operating system and seemingly now on the new operating system as well. And we know this new design is pretty much outlined to maximize advertisements. That is their big plan. They want to shove as many little banner ads in there as they can and try to load up their operating system so you have every reason to purchase that next streaming service.

[00:01:16]But, this next one I think might be the most annoying of them all because it physically stops you and makes you click on something.

[00:01:25]Now, this first click-on ad that they are testing is for their Fire TV mobile app. But, essentially what pops up on your screen is this pop-up, which you then have to go down and press dismiss on. Now, I've been testing out this new banner ad and as soon as I did the update, I did get this pop-up.

[00:01:46]But, since I got the pop-up and pressed dismiss, I have not received it. I have reset my box four or five times.

[00:01:53]I have tried letting it sit on the home screen. So, it seems as of right now, it is a specific timed event, meaning you're not going to get spammed with it.

[00:02:04]Now, what I'm going to be doing over the next few days is testing how often it pops up. So, if I check on my Cube again tomorrow after it's been to sleep for a day, is it going to pop up again? So, we we will be testing that as well to kind of check the frequency. Again, because just turning your box off and turning it back on doesn't seem to trigger this ad.

[00:02:25]Now, this is where I want to talk about where they're going to be Oh man, my hair.

[00:02:29]It's a little crazy right now. This is where I want to talk about where they're going to be going with this ad. And the most logical thing with this, I mean, if we look at it right here, it's a literal giant pop-up that you can't avoid, is to have this as products eventually or services, because this dismiss button could be on this left-hand side, while the other button could be on the right-hand side, purchase, learn more, get a discount.

[00:02:58]So, there are so many opportunities with this, where once a day, they could spam millions of Fire TV devices that, yes, they are now selling the Select cheaper as well, to get this ad and basically push out advertisements in more of a direct fashion. So, my guess is right now, they want to check some beginning testing, which could be something as simple as how many people scan the QR code, how many people press dismiss, how long does it take, what frequencies get the best result. And they might slowly start rolling this out to other companies and other advertising partners, would be my guess.

[00:03:37]Now, I do want to do a separate video walking over all the new features of the Fire TV mobile app, but we're going to save that for another day. Today, I just wanted to rant on this because the advertisements are just getting out of control, and this is also the benefit of moving to their own Vega OS and that new updated Fire TV system where it is basically built to maximize advertisements with an un-clear cluttered screen and a design that can easily be changed.
