Patriarchy is a systemic power structure that uplifts men and subjugates women, not merely a collection of individual men; it became more pronounced with the shift from village-based communities to nuclear families, which placed increased burdens on mothers while fathers remained primarily in provider roles, and when men feel defensive about the term 'patriarchy,' it indicates they are beginning to recognize their connection to this system.

Who does patriarchy actually protect?
Added:I suspect that a lot of the tension in this coming out of the UK right now is coming out of like white working class men. Like and I think the same is probably true in your country with the say the rise of Maga and Trump and etc. Being told, you know, it's like you're living in a patriarchal society and they're like, I'm poor.
>> [laughter] >> I'm suffering. Where's mine?
>> What I've noticed is that patriarchy is more triggering than white supremacy.
And I think part of that is because it's older. I think it's like the father of white supremacy. But patriarchy is not men, individual men that are the problem unless they're being and they aren't, you know, being abusive or controlling or all those things that patriarchy kind of condones. But it's really just a system of power that uplifts men and subjugates women. And one of the things that happened kind of around the time of the feminist movement, maybe it was earlier, was the birth of the nuclear family. Before that, we were all raised within the context of a village. And it was that shift to the nuclear family that put so much more weight on the mother. The father was always in the provider role.
Nothing much changed for him. But now the mother's doing everything by herself. And then as time has gone on, like modern villageless mothers are expected to do more today than ever before, but without the support that they used to have. I think some of pushback from white men or the feeling of defensiveness from white men when they hear the word patriarchy, if we're feeling defensive, it's time to like pause and take a look at why why do we feel defensive? Because are they really talking to me or how am I a part of the problem or am I not a part of the problem? But but just to be self-inquire.
