Hugh captures the raw dignity of Nepalese mountain life without the usual romanticized filters of travel vlogging. It effectively highlights the stark contrast between a traveler’s temporary curiosity and a community’s permanent struggle for survival.

I Tried Living in Nepal’s Most Remote Village🇳🇵Added:
Welcome back to part two of living in a rural village in Nepal. In the last episode, I arrived and met the family.
But today, things get a lot more real.
I'm getting stuck into daily village life, trying out local traditions, and seeing what it's actually like to live out here in the mountains. Let's get into it.
Right. Good morning from the village. It is 6:00 a.m. Good morning.
>> Morning. Good morning.
>> Morning. The tasks have already started.
>> Yeah, they start the hour earlier.
>> Early from the clean.
>> What time did you wake up?
>> Uh around 5:30.
>> 5:30. Oh, half an hour ago. Okay. And now you're sweeping the >> the dirt.
>> Yeah, I got >> She's washing uh washing the floor here. This is like water she's putting on or no?
>> Water.
>> Water. Oh, she she's just washing.
>> Yeah. to keep this very clean.
>> Yeah, very clean.
>> Only the top part of the >> No. And all the parts.
>> Okay. But not this. Not this. You just sweep this and then >> sometimes here also. But continue every day. They like this.
>> And every family here would do this.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, okay. Okay.
>> Only for typical house. Not this one.
Only this house.
>> Ah okay. Only for this uh like clay or something.
Good. Why is it so funny?
>> That's good. Because you see why she laughing so much?
>> We never do like this.
>> Oh, different technique.
>> Yeah, it's good. Yeah, it's okay.
>> Is this correct or no?
>> Yeah, it's good. This is good. Good.
Good. Good.
>> Ramro.
>> Ramro. She's She's pissing herself laughing.
So, this is like a piece of clothing or cloth just dipping in this like muddy water every day. This is done at 6:00 a.m.
>> Okay.
>> It's quite interesting sleeping in this environment. There's so many different sounds I'm just not used to. You've got the roll. You've got the chickens.
You've also got my next door neighbor who was causing an absolute racket last night. Have you got anything to say for yourself?
Charging around in this little den of his. He was like running into this metal wall and it was keeping me up. So, tonight keep it down in here. Right. The next task is to get the morning milk. And the milk doesn't come from the supermarket or the convenience store. It comes from the buffalo. Uh namo.
>> Callie.
>> Callie.
>> Callie the buffalo. Okay.
He's ready for milking. There is some smell from Cali this morning. He's had a >> he's had a good night in here. Okay. So now time to >> Yeah. Wild, you know, sometimes some hard for soft.
>> This is the oil.
>> Yeah. Wild.
>> And you put the oil on the milk.
>> Ah, okay. Okay. So, sometimes the tit or tit is hard.
>> You put the oil on to soften it.
>> Oh, the baby's coming. This baby was keeping me up in the night. Very, very noisy.
>> Very noisy.
>> He was like headbutting the Whoa. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah.
>> I could hear him.
>> Here he comes.
runs through. So his mother ah >> so he gets first feed. Ah so the baby like probably warms the buffalo up, starts getting the milk out and then I can crack on and get some. So now she's washing.
>> So every morning this happens. Yeah.
Every morning. Yeah. Yeah. Look at all her arm is all muddy because the buffalo backed into her. All her nice clothes. This is the reality of getting milk every day. I just wandered down to Tesco, pick up a liter. So, so different.
They go up at 6:00 a.m. Come out here.
It's a twoman job.
>> He used to control the buffalo. She's in there milking it just to get like a pint of milk. And this is from one buffalo only once per day. So she's like pulling down on them, squeezing the milk out.
And this is what she's got so far. Fresh buffalo milk.
Ah, okay.
>> Okay. I think she's saying if I do it, the buffalo is going to go crazy. Go crazy. Okay. Okay. Yeah. I think it's too dangerous for me to do it cuz it's already like acting up when she's doing it. She does it every single day. So, definitely not worth the risk. So, as I mentioned yesterday, Puna, the father of the house, is a tailor, the best tailor in town. And one of the local people from the village, one of his friends, has brought some trousers, I think, to get fixed. So, let's have a little look over here and see what's happening. This is like trousers he's brought.
>> He just sits here and when he gets the when he gets the sewing machine out, this happens often. People bring clothes >> sometimes.
>> Sometimes. Yeah.
>> But normally he makes the new >> Ah, okay. So, the thread is up here hanging from the ceiling.
and he's put it into the machine. And now he's asking his client, "What's the matter? What you need fixed?"
>> There's a little rip.
>> What's been made here?
>> You eat buffalo.
>> I feed the buffalo.
>> I buffalo. Oh, buffalo. So, the buffalo's breakfast.
Okay, it's breakfast time for the buffalo.
He gets led away with some porridge and he eats it right outside my bedroom with my new balance in the back. So, what we're doing now is we're going to go to a spring water source.
So, this is like higher quality drinking water.
>> Yeah. Yes.
>> Got it. Got it. And every day they still go and collect it instead of So you still drink the other one?
>> Yeah. Other one.
>> But you prefer this one, right? Okay.
>> This one.
>> And what is the name of the basket?
>> Bamboo basket.
>> Ah, bamboo basket.
>> Daloo.
>> Daloo.
>> And you can fit many things in here. So right now we've got two containers for the water.
>> Damage from the earthquake.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Like this.
>> Wow. So this is the damage from the earthquake. Look, this was a house here and now it's just rubble not being rebuilt. There's a better look. Oh my days. This is someone's house just just gone.
What a view.
That is insane. Sun is just rising. Now this is the easy part. Walking to the water source when the bottles are empty.
Pretty light but very interesting way of carrying it. actually pretty effective as well.
>> Right, we've arrived at the water source. Namaste.
>> Namaste. Namaste.
>> Namaste. Namaste.
>> Ah, Puna.
>> He's already here.
He's beat us.
>> So, all the local village comes here still to get the good water. He's washing his bike. Wash washing.
>> Bike washing.
>> Yeah, bike washing. Ah, good. The local car wash.
So this girl's filled up, too.
>> How do she bring them home? Just under her arms. Look.
>> Walks back to her house.
>> Rinse it out. Okay, now I can fill. Oh, okay. So, first of all, mince out and then I'm copying what she did. You just left it there.
>> Good.
>> Ah, local technique.
>> Yeah.
>> When did you get water in your home?
>> Just last year.
>> Last year.
>> Yeah.
>> So, every year before you come?
>> Yeah.
>> Just finished.
>> Just two bottles or much more?
>> More. Yeah. Wow.
power here. We're going to show later >> here. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Okay. We're going to come back here and shower. Okay. Now full >> a little bit less.
>> Yeah. This >> in here.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Okay. Now, time to uh carry it back to the house. Okay. A little bit tricky putting this on.
Okay.
>> Oh, wa. So heavy, bro.
>> Oh my days. That is crazy how heavy that is.
>> That is crazy.
>> It's like so much pressure on my forehead.
>> Or maybe it's too low down.
>> This is light or heavy for you? light.
Yeah. Light for >> Oh, he sore my legs there. So, I'm crouching down. Hang on.
>> Okay, now you can do it.
>> Oh, you have you adjusted it. Yeah.
>> Ah, that's better.
>> Okay. Better, better, better.
>> Okay, let's go.
>> Okay. Oh my days.
>> Continue. Okay. Down.
>> Okay.
>> Bye-bye. Bye-bye.
>> Goodbye.
>> Right. And then the walk back. to the village begins the pressure on your forehead. It's like someone's like like a pinch in your forehead. That's better now. I think the I think he adjusted the bottles. Let's head back to the village.
Once again, the difference is it's crazy. I just walk into the bathroom at home, flick the tap on, and keep the burning water running when brushing my teeth. But here, I need to go and collect the water. This is the neighbor. She's off to brush her teeth.
Namaste.
I had to get a bathtub. Honestly, the pain on my forehead and my neck. So, your mom would do that as well? Yes.
>> Even like 70 year olds, 80 year olds.
>> Wow. And you're not even flinching here.
>> So since you were a young boy, you would do this >> every day. Okay, I'm back at the house with my daka on. And it's breakfast time. So let's see what they eat for breakfast here in the village.
>> Ah, breakfast.
>> Perfect. What have we got?
>> Two boiled eggs.
>> Boiled egg.
>> Some salt.
>> Salt and banana.
>> Banana. and tea.
>> Perfect.
>> These are >> simple but delicious. Yeah. Very good.
>> These are grown in the garden.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Good freerange egg. Mito is the only word I've got in my vocabulary to describe something that's good.
>> Okay, breakfast is done and dusted. And now we're heading to the wedding ceremony.
The hat is on. We're walking up the hill here and a local lad is getting married to someone in Catandu. So the village are coming together to have a little thing at his house at around 9:00 in the morning.
So everybody is gathering and the father of the house has his best suit on. I feel I'm a little bit underdressed. cuz I wasn't aware of this happening. Otherwise, I would have bought a, you know, a shirt and a some nice trousers. I'm in my joggers and my t-shirt, but >> hopefully it's okay. So loud. We've got the car here. B and J. I must say they decorated the car like with ribbons.
Every instrument is completely different. I'm not going to pretend I know what they are. We got guys on like little trumpets. We've got drums. This guy's clapping this together. And these are the most interesting ones. Namaste.
They're absolutely massive. Look. How do you play this one?
Ah, you blow into it.
That's a hot mic trumpet. There he goes.
into it was absolutely exhausted.
They're like fall right into the face.
Yeah.
Going down behind.
So the bride and groom will be heading away in this car. And they've also got a bus here. They decorated.
Bash and Jika are getting married today. So everybody we jump in the bus and following the car to the wedding in Kandu. And there's not just one bus. There's two buses going to Kand do. This must be a big wedding.
They're busing them in from the village.
Namaste. Namaste. Namaste. Namaste.
Okay, now we're going to check out the local school in the village. This is where tikka learned his craft. Namaste.
Namaste.
>> Ah, okay. They're teaching in there.
Look.
>> He can just walk into the school. That's insane.
>> Namaste.
>> Nice to meet you. Having a look around.
Yes.
>> Okay.
>> This is class number eight.
>> Class.
>> Yes.
>> You can see inside also >> to film. It's okay.
>> I don't want to film the kids. It's okay.
>> It's okay. Up to you. Up to you.
>> Okay.
>> You can make it.
>> Perfect. Namaste.
>> Very good. What are they learning?
Maths.
>> Uh uh I think it's math. Yeah.
>> Ma mathematic.
>> Science.
>> Science.
>> Yes.
>> Looks very complicated.
>> Too complicated for me.
>> Okay. bad.
>> Yeah.
>> Bye-bye.
>> We don't have a good place, you know.
>> Oh, it was like this >> and some people have nowhere to to write. In my country, there's no way you can just walk into the school.
>> Yeah. Okay. Like this.
>> And then in here, another one, the whiteboard.
Look at the condition of these benches.
And they're all squeezed on.
Okay, the bell has gone off at the school here and it is assembly time on the courtyard.
The kids are lining up and the English teacher is on the mic out this massive speaker and he's now talking to the kids.
All my students from class 1 to class 12.
>> Interesting when he's speaking English.
>> Don't be late. Okay.
>> Are you good?
>> Fine.
>> Okay. I'm going to introduce with you a gentleman in front of us. He is a YouTuber as well, brother. And he is here to see you. He is here to catch up your all activities as well as he is going to give you a nice platform.
MR. NONE OTHER THAN MR. HUGE FROM EASTLAND. BIG CLAP FOR HIM. WELCOME HIM EVERYONE.
>> THANK you my friend.
>> Thank you so much.
>> He is a very nice guy. LOOK HE'S HANDSOME MAN as well.
Yeah, it's good. You like it?
>> BIG CLAP FOR HIM AGAIN. I'M WELCOME TO YOU SIR in our school.
>> Thank you so much.
>> Thank you very much.
>> Thank you. Very kind. Thank you.
>> Okay, my dear students, you can go to class line by line. Thank you.
>> Again, thank you.
>> Embarrassing me. Embarrassing me. I made it back to the house and I'm sure a few of you are interested in the toilet situation here in the village. This house has their own toilet. So, let's go check it out. So, I believe it's just around the back here. Got the kitchen here, the water, and this is the toilet.
Little hut, blue door, bricks on the outside.
And here we go.
So, obviously squat toilet, cement walls, but honestly, there's zero smell at all.
Pretty good. So to flush this, you'd take the water from here into the cup and then you would pour it down the toilet. And I guess most houses have a similar system. Okay, it's now lunchtime. Let's check out what's been cooked in here. Meto >> me. Good.
Okay, I got the dah puff. Perfect. And you've had Let's get this poured over the rice.
Beautiful.
Bit some of this in.
This puff looks pretty good. Not too sure if it's the same sort of style as the one I had for dinner last night, but there's some greens through this as well. Right, let's get it mixed together.
Wow, so hot. Don't know how the locals do that with the temperature.
La this potato aloo mix. Very good.
Let's try chunks of buffalo.
Pretty tender. Good. Mito perfect level spice.
Ahad.
Perfect.
A little bit more curry in there.
>> The flavor of the curry is immense.
What's coming now? Acha.
>> Yeah.
>> Acha. Perfect.
These are pickles. Perfect. That's enough. And you're like, "These are homemade pickles."
And the spice is going up my nose here, so I'm going to sneeze.
M. No.
A little bit tangy. Not too sure what the vegetable is.
>> This is like maybe bamboo.
>> The achar is bamboo.
>> No, radish. Radish.
>> Radish. Ah, okay. My mistake. Radish.
Yeah. Very nice.
>> The star of the show is 100% the buffalo curry. Right, we're heading back to the wedding ceremony.
Apparently, it's all going to kick off very very soon. That's my new friend.
>> Namo Duna.
>> Duna. That's my friend Duna.
>> Okay. And we're head we're heading back up the hill here >> to try and find the bride and grim.
Oh, we got some on the boys.
So, everyone who's going to the wedding is obviously dressed up in their nicest clothes. You got the men in the traditional clothing here. Namaste.
Namaste. With red scarfves around their necks. And now we're waiting for the bride and groom, I presume, to come out of this building. I presume this is their house. And we'll get in the car here and lovely again. I've now got one of the red scarves. I' have no idea what I mean, but lovely.
>> Ramro.
There we go. I'm blending in. I've got all the gear now. Right. The time has finally came. We've got some movement in the house. I think the bride and groom are about to come outside. I won't get too close to this camera because this is their wedding day and I'm not here to ruin that.
So, as the groom now getting into the car, I'm not too sure if the bride is out yet.
He's jumping in the back seat.
Maybe the bride has shotgun. I'm not sure.
So, the procession has started. You got the suits on the motorbikes. I love that. And here comes the car with the bride and groom inside. There they go. All the best. All right.
He must be like, "Who the hell is that guy? Who invited him?" And last but not least, there's the bus. Bye-bye. See you later.
Have a good day.
I just learned that the girl or the wife to be was not in the car. She wasn't in the house. So, I got my facts wrong.
Apologies. They're actually off to collect her now and then go and get married. You dancing? Yeah, it was me dancing.
>> Not as good as this one.
We dance together. Ooh.
Then this one. Nice.
>> Spin. Spin. Spin. Spin. Spin. Oh god. Maybe.
>> Oh, a new move. Unlocked. New move.
>> She's a good dancer.
>> Better dancer than me. Some of you might have realized in this video I've included some different shots with some interesting angles. And I want to tell you more about the device I'm using to capture this content. This is the Hover Air X1 Pro Max. and it's a tiny tracking drone that weighs under 250 g and actually fits inside my pocket. I've never owned a drone before and the reason for that is because I can't fly one. They're pretty difficult to fly.
However, with this little bad boy, there's no controller. It flies itself, which for me as a beginner, it is perfect. All you have to do is turn it on, pick a mode, and it lifts straight off from the palm of your hand. The drone has 15 different cinematic flight modes, including follow, sidetrack, cycling mode, and 360 spin, so you can get amazing shots without even having to think about flying it. This is absolutely perfect for me as I travel solo, and I've got no one to film me.
Even though the drone is so small, the quality it shoots in is outrageous. It shoots in 8K and I can easily crop the footage for short form platforms in vertical or keep it horizontal for YouTube. One of the best things about this drone is how good the image stabilization is. Even though sometimes I film in some wind, the footage stays incredibly smooth. For someone traveling solo around the world, this device has been a gamecher for me. It's been an absolute no-brainer to add this to my backpack. I want to say a huge thanks to Hover Air for sponsoring this video. If you're interested in checking out this little drone, I'll leave a link down below in the description. You might be wondering how the locals shower here in the village. And we're back at the fresh water source because it is shower time.
None of these houses in the village have showers. So everybody comes here to wash. And as you can see, your man is already getting his kit off.
It's a little bit gold.
Nice and fresh.
And that's how you do the local shower here in the village. And a little afternoon snack has now been served.
We've got the cell roti. Tried this in a previous video in Camp Mandeue. It's like a sugary donut, banana, and also a glass of chia. I do believe the cultural norm is to dip the cel roti in the chia. So, of course, we'll do that.
And the eagle-eyed viewer amongst you will notice I've had a shave. The beard is gone. I just had a shave by a local here in the village. It's going to be a separate video. It is absolutely hilarious. Very, very painful, but it's just too good to include in this video.
So, make sure to check the channel to see when that is uploaded. Change of location. We've made it. Well, actually, we're trying to make it to the top of the mountain to get the best view possible. Obviously, it's extremely foggy, smoggy, polluted today, but you never know. You might as well go to the top and see what you can see.
Just climbing up these steps. So, on top is a temple. This is a Buddhist temple.
>> Hindus. Hindus.
>> Hindus. Oh, okay.
Hindu temple.
>> Hindu temple.
>> Yeah, you can go and >> Okay.
>> 1 th000 meters from sea level. He said there. It's pretty high up. And this is the view, ladies and gentlemen.
So, I've just stopped on the way back down >> from the mountain because we've discovered Namaste.
>> Namaste ka.
>> So, these are oxies.
>> This is the oldfashioned way of >> planting of the corn.
>> Plowing. Planting or plowing?
>> So, he's made this he's made this at the back, >> this wooden thing, and then they're they're dragging it.
>> Let's see it in action.
It's the two ox they walk and then it plows the field and then she comes behind. I seeing >> she's planting the corn.
>> Wow.
>> So, some people have the the the petrol one.
>> Yeah. Yes.
>> But he has the oldfashioned one. The two oxies. Strong animals. Okay. We go.
What do I do?
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> I just do this >> in the in this line.
>> Yeah.
>> We're officially plowing the fields the oldfashioned way.
>> Straight line or no? Where's they going?
No, they're going over. No, don't go over there.
Bad. Bad job. Bad job. Okay.
>> Right. Farming has been complete. I don't think he'll be hiring me as his assistant anytime soon. That was awful.
But we're back at the house and dinner is ready. So, let's see what's being served. Ah, amazing.
>> Perfect.
Oh, this is the ruxy again. More rugy.
Every single meal, breakfast, lunch, and dinner is the local moonshine. I reckon this morning a lot of those guys were having the moonshine at the wedding reception because I could smell it under their breath and they were having a very good time. But cheers.
>> Doesn't get any easier. So, we have some meat. This is chicken.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Oh, perfect. Like chicken curry. You have it with the Roxy?
>> Yeah. Yeah. With >> You're having chia tea.
>> Tea.
>> Tea. Okay.
>> Let's taste some of the chicken.
Oh, good.
>> Very nice.
>> Oh, me too. Me too. That's so good.
>> Slowly and after that we eat.
>> Okay. This is like starter appetizer.
>> Yeah. Before that.
>> Ah, I see.
>> Wow. It's amazing chicken curry.
Slowly slowly slowly slowly.
>> So who made this one?
>> Yeah.
>> Your mom.
>> Mom. Ah.
>> Okay.
>> Oh, you mix it together now. Okay.
Forgot some like they make it like >> this is chura. Chur chur. Oh, okay.
Soaks up all the sauce at the bottom.
There we go.
>> Good for soaking up the curry.
>> Oh, the chicken is amazing.
Some of the best food I've had so far in Nepal. And this is the reality of life at the village. Within a few minutes, it was sunshine. And now it is darkness because the power has gone off. A huge storm has kicked off. It is torrential rain and it's left the house and the village in darkness. Okay. Dinner has been served.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Thank you so much once again.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Thank you.
>> Look at this. So, what have we got? We got rice.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Rice. Chicken.
>> Chicken. Oh, chicken. Curry.
>> Spinach. Dried. Spinach.
>> Spinach.
>> Potatoes. Fried.
>> Potato and pickles.
>> Lovely. Any bad. And more da da.
>> Perfect. Let's get this chicken curry, which is absolutely delicious. It's the same curry as before with the roxie.
Yeah. Yeah. Amazing. My favorite.
>> Beautiful. It's okay if I hold the plate. It's okay. In your culture, it's fine.
>> Okay. Right. Big chunk of chicken.
>> The flavor in the curry. Amazing.
Potatoes are really good as well.
really soft.
>> You just mix it together. Get your hand in there. Can't beat it.
>> The only thing that could be improved is my technique with my hand.
We're getting there. It's good. You like it?
>> Yeah. Amazing.
>> My favorite is the chicken curry.
>> Yeah. So, so good.
>> And the power is back on. Often you have power cuts.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Windy. Windy.
>> Windy. Okay.
>> Okay. So, this is the other room in the house. Take my shoes off.
>> This is your room.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Ah, it's nice.
>> Father room.
>> Your father's room.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Your room. My room. You sleep.
>> Ah. So, your Okay. So, they both sleep in here?
>> Yeah. Both sleep here. Nice. Father here. Very >> nice. Got the tomatoes. Chili peppers.
>> This is the shaver.
>> Yeah.
>> Shiver head torch.
>> Very cool. And this is his uh wardrobe.
>> He keeps his clothes like hanging here.
>> Yeah.
>> And then in here is other other possessions. This is his suit jacket and his shirt. Ah, very nice. This is the other room.
>> My mom sleep.
>> Oh, your mom. They don't sleep in the same room.
>> No.
>> Oh, okay. Yeah, there is there is one response to phone.
>> So in here you have the corn stacks of corn here.
You have small radio on the floor. You got the bed in the corner here. And then her clothes are hanging up.
Also over here, more clothes.
You have a very old TV there.
Not sure if that's ever been plugged in with a stereo on the top.
There's so much stuff here on the floor.
Look, she wants to go to bed. She has to climb over all of this.
W. And that's the end of night two here in the village. Another fantastic day spent here experiencing local life in Nepal. This is where I'm staying tonight for my second evening. If you not seen the first video, it's my bed in the corner. We have the TV on the ground and we have a massive thing of rice just here.
But I'll see you bright and early hopefully for some blue skies in the morning.
And good morning from the village. 6:00 a.m. Once again, the rolls are going off, but thankfully the little baby buffalo is a little bit more relaxed last night.
It didn't keep me up too much. But it rained so much last night and I'm waking up to expect some blue skies. You ready?
There's no blue skies today, but this is my final morning here in the village.
So, it's now time to pack my bag and say goodbye to the family.
Ah, perfect.
Good.
Ah, lovely. Some tea in the morning.
Oh, it's roasting.
>> Oh, it's like a fruit.
>> Not too sure. Very sweet. Fruity.
Ah, >> delicious. Can you ask him how the wedding was?
>> Did he have fun at the wedding?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah, he did.
>> Okay.
Ramro.
>> Lots of drinking.
>> Ruski.
>> Ruski.
>> Lots of dancing.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Time for some breakfast. We have organic potatoes and the good old favorite, the boiled egg. Starting with the potato.
Village life organic, no chemicals.
>> Okay, before I leave, I want to say a huge thank you to both of you for inviting me into your house and allowing me to stay. It's been absolutely incredible and I will never forget your generosity, your kindness and your amazing food. Larry Mito and the next time I'm in Nepal, I will definitely come and stay with you again if that's possible. I know life can be tricky here. So, I want to make a small donation to your family if that's okay.
So, this is for >> for you.
Namaste.
>> Thank you so much.
Bye-bye.
>> See you soon. See you next year.
>> Ramro. Ramro.
>> Ramro.
>> And that brings us to the end of my incredible stay here in the village.
I've got so much more content coming up from Nepal. So, please subscribe so you don't miss out. Thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next
