Never Drink In A Flat-Roofed PubAdded:
So, I'm just on the Gleus estate in Sheffield and we're going to go for a pint at the Blackstock Pub, a proper council estate with a proper pub. But they used to say never drink in a flat roof boozer cuz they had a bit of a stigma. You know, they were known to be rough as you can see on Shameless the jockey. And over the years they've disappeared.
What are these?
Not seen these before. What is it?
God knows. Sorry, I got distracted.
Yeah, but over the years they they've disappeared and you know they've been turned into car washes, shops just like or just been knocked down. But this one is still standing and still going strong. This was once a rough pub.
It had a rough reputation, but like I said, I think it's changed over the years. But just your typical flat roof bub on a typical council estate.
We'll see what it's like.
It looks open.
The Black Stock Pub, you've told me to come here. I just never got round to doing it. Right. See which way.
>> I don't watch it though.
>> You do watch it. Hey, thank you, mate.
Nice one.
>> I know who you are. Yeah, a few people have been telling me, "Oh, come in here.
Come in here. Come in here." I just ain't got around to doing it.
Line up.
>> Hey, P. Can I have a pint of Murphy's, please?
>> Hey, sound that price, man. Hey, thank you. How long have you had this boozer for?
>> Uh, about six years now. Yeah, cuz I've seen that it got took over by new management and I've been told that you've done a great job with it like this.
>> Yeah, cuz back in day this it had a bit of a reputation. It's good, isn't it?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Let that sound.
>> Yeah. sound.
>> Right. Nice one, Paul.
>> Cheers, brother.
>> Thank you, man. Thank you.
>> Right. Sit outside, get some of that sunshine.
Right. Cheers, mate. Thank you.
Did you say something? Did someone say something then? Oh, sorry. I misard you.
>> Cheers, Paul. Hey, outside.
Bit bloody awkward.
It me don't know. I was crumbled.
But yeah, the Black Stock Pub, one of last of its kind. I think there's a couple of other flat roof pubs in Sheffield, but yeah, I want to come to this one, >> right? The Murphy's looks all right. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know what happened with me then. I just sort of just I don't know. Just crumbled.
just it just went really awkward for me.
I don't know why I've not felt that for a while, but is what it is. Um yeah, it's a Murphy's.
Let's give it a go.
Not shown that. I can't remember how much he said, but I know it were pretty cheap.
Spot on. All right, so I ate that. I'm happy with that.
Drinking in the flat roof pubs of Sheffield. Coming to a pub near you.
Retired now then.
>> I've been retired.
>> 16 years.
>> All right. What do you used to work as?
>> Same as me. That's how he knows, man.
>> I used to be a doorman. I bet you've got some stories to tell, ain't you? From back in the day.
I started till I was 21.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> I went to steel works, I believe.
>> Oh, did you? What steel works you used to work at?
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Checking.
>> Yes. Proper proper work. Yeah.
>> Hammer driver.
>> Hammer driver. Were you part of a team then? Like or me?
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> 15 though.
>> 15 working at bloody forge.
You're not getting any of that now.
>> I went to rolls when I was 16.
>> That's a dangerous job, ain't it?
Rolling Mills.
>> You can't work shit now. 18 year old.
>> Yeah. Yeah. 16.
>> Yeah. You can't work them now till 18.
>> When I worked in building trade building for 10.
>> Oh, so you've done a bit of everything then. Oh, fair play to you, man. Fair play.
>> Quite busy.
>> F. I've got a taxi waiting, mate.
>> Oh, see you.
>> Rob's not done me painting.
>> Has he done doing it yet?
>> He's not doing it.
>> Oh, >> his left arm's gone again. He's having another heart attack.
>> What's your name, pal? What's your name?
>> Kieran. Nice to meet you, mate. wheels called thing here. I don't see kids.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Cheers.
>> Entertainment, you know.
>> Well, that's it. not there.
>> But they now kids have lost that like creativity mind because they can't they can't make stuff up anymore and they can't go and just like I don't know >> make dens and you know and stuff like that or make goat carts out of out of bins and stuff. They don't they can't do that.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So as generations have gone they've lost that creative mind. Oh, trolley sits on >> trolley.
>> Well, yeah, that's we used to even even like to my generation, we used to use bin bags and just go down bin bags or a top hole or something like that. But >> bin bag, >> right? Cheers for that. Anyway, fella, nice one.
>> Hey, you were sound Hey, >> cheers mate. Thank you. Spot on that, mate. Nice one, mate. Thank you, mate.
Thanks for watching. See you later, >> mate. Cheers, mate. Thank you for that.
See you later, Phil. Right.
So, that was the Black Stock Pub.
Decent boozer. Didn't go to plan, but it were all right. You know what I mean?
Sometimes it happens. Just I just sort of crumble. I thought it sort of crumbled on bloody camera. But h anyway, thank you for watching everyone and I'll see you on the next one in a bit.
